Showing the Evidence (2)
Buzz buzz!
Annihilation battle!
With a million Undead stationed on the Western Front, the idea of annihilating them all at once seemed incomprehensible to the nobles.
From their perspective, it was unbelievable, but the black mages thought it was entirely possible.
However, black magic, even at its greatest, was crude compared to modern weaponry.
If it weren’t for the skill called Shield, which seemed almost fraudulent, it wouldn’t even be comparable to modern weapons.
But how reliable was Shield, really?
It was certainly effective for kidnapping or assassinating key figures, but in an all-out war, its ability to withstand a sustained assault was questionable.
Multiple Shields could defend a limited area to some extent, but they would eventually be breached.
Being armed with Shield might grant invincibility in small operations, but in a large-scale war, even black mages would find themselves overwhelmed.
Could they really equip a million Undead with Shield? I highly doubted it. The Magic Kingdom’s magical power had its limits.
Earl Amon spoke, “Military Advisor, regarding the main base and a million troops…”
“Yes! We have field artillery here, correct? With a range of roughly 30-40km, we can simply bombard them from here and wipe them all out.”
“Heh.”
“A weapon that can fly that far?”
“We could use high-explosive shells, but given the sheer number of Undead, napalm bombs would be more effective.”
“What exactly is a napalm bomb?”
“I can’t reveal it just yet. Showing it now would only alert the enemy and allow them to develop countermeasures!”
“I suppose you’re right.”
The others nodded in agreement.
A weapon’s impact was greatest when first deployed. Once its capabilities were known, enemies would inevitably devise ways to defend against it.
Earl Amon continued, “Then, what about eliminating the main forces on the Central and Eastern Fronts as well? With such overwhelming power…”
“Excellent point. I was just about to ask Sujeong to address that.”
“Oh, I see.”
“Let’s wipe them all out from here. All we need are the coordinates.”
“Perhaps?”
I understood what Sujeong was implying.
Open a gate and deploy napalm bombs on the other side. By adjusting the angle of trajectory, we could directly strike the front lines.
Such a move would undoubtedly shock both the Empire and the Magic Kingdom.
Once the main forces were decimated, we could quickly mop up the remnants.
Sujeong elaborated, “However, if we drop too many bombs on areas other than the Western Front, we might inadvertently aid the Empire. We should provide just enough support for them to hold their ground. Our primary target is the Western Front. Let’s clear that area first, then focus on the other regions!”
“That’s a sound strategy.”
“If it’s truly a weapon of that magnitude…”
The nobles clenched their fists, their eyes gleaming with anticipation.
There were quite a few nobles present.
It wasn’t just the Amon, Arden, and Ruyan trio anymore, but also newly integrated nobles.
In total, there were more than twelve of them.
That meant I controlled over twelve territories.
That was the size of a respectable kingdom.
The Empire consisted of roughly 150 territories, both large and small. If we eliminated the major front lines, approximately 30% of the Empire would fall under my control.
“Then, let’s allocate 1,000 rounds to the Western Front and 200 rounds to each of the other fronts.”
Western Front, Duchy of Russell.
The places named after each front line were scenes of utter carnage and hell.
They were doing everything in their power to repel the swarming Undead.
The front of the massive barrier was covered in mountains of corpses, and the Undead were advancing over them.
It was a crude tactic of overwhelming force, but this time, they had devised a new, horrifying method.
The Undead carried sandbags on their shoulders, which they dropped and died in front of the castle walls.
As the sandbags piled up, they created a stepped mountain of corpses, allowing the Undead to advance.
It was an operation that could only be executed by the Undead Legion.
I’d heard of building earthen mounds, but building mountains of corpses?
“Damn it.”
“Your Excellency! The West Gate is about to collapse!”
“Hold it at all costs!”
“The center is about to be breached!”
“The walls are also in danger!”
It was a comprehensive crisis.
They had miraculously managed to hold on until now, but there was no guarantee they could continue to do so.
Russell asked his Chief of Staff, “Recardo, how long can we hold out?”
“At best, I’d say a day.”
“A day…”
Considering the current situation, they deserved an award for holding out even for a single day.
Unfortunately, even a day seemed impossible.
“But they will retreat once. After that, they will rush the entire army.”
Russell’s face reflected despair at Baron Recardo’s words.
If they retreated like this?
Numerous people would die. The people of the Western Front would all become Undead.
Ppoo-!~!
The enemies retreated after piling up mountains of corpses.
This was the prelude to death.
Soon, once they reorganized their ranks, it would be over.
“Has the evacuation order been issued?”
“It’s not enough time to evacuate all the residents.”
“Heh. What should we do about this?”
Chuak!
Just then.
Suddenly, something materialized before my eyes, and a man with a familiar face emerged.
“Ah, Marquis Arden!?”
A gate?
Wasn’t that something that only existed in documents from the Magic Empire era?
Of course, I had heard stories about the Heavenly Army, but I never believed they actually existed.
“It’s been a while.”
“You’re alive.”
“Your Excellency, I have urgent news. It seems the enemies will advance soon, so I need to speak with you immediately.”
“There’s still time. They’ll probably reorganize their ranks for a few hours.”
“Coordination is needed to carry out the operation. Can we go to a private room right away?”
“The reason?”
“It’s about salvation.”
Well, it was a miracle that Marquis Arden was still alive.
I had heard that the border territories were being integrated and falling under the command of the Heavenly Army.
If we could win this war, and if humanity could be saved, I would be willing to do anything.
“Let’s go.”
It was a small, cramped private room.
This was the place Marquis Arden had requested.
There was no risk of eavesdropping, and it was completely secure.
Duke Russell looked haggard and emaciated.
Russell himself was quite skilled, so he had to come to the front lines to boost morale.
As a result, he had become thin from the physical strain.
“What do you have to say to me?”
“Your Excellency, what is your opinion of the current Empire?”
“The current Empire?”
Duke Russell considered the Empire.
Even though they should be uniting humanity’s strength, they were consumed by infighting.
At this rate, humanity was doomed.
“It’s rotten. No, I should say it’s insane. It’s driving all of humanity to its death.”
“If someone doesn’t intervene, humanity is doomed. Do you agree?”
“Damn it. I hate to admit it, but you’re right. At this rate, we’re doomed.”
“Good. Your Excellency, if humanity can be saved, would you be willing to leave the Empire and join a new one?”
“……!”
It was an unexpected proposal.
To create a new Empire.
In short, it meant rebellion.
“You’re suggesting a rebellion in this situation? Are you out of your mind?”
“Didn’t I tell you? This is assuming that humanity can be saved.”
“Ha! Even if the Heavenly Army truly exists, this is difficult. A million troops. That’s just on the Western Front.”
“Today, they will be annihilated. If that happens, will you join the new Empire?”
“Heh.”
For a moment, Duke Russell thought Marquis Arden was insane.
But there was no wavering in Marquis Arden’s eyes, and his belief was unwavering. He truly believed the Undead Legion would fall.
Was this a miracle, or had he been brainwashed?
As he weighed his options, Marquis Arden spoke.
“As you said, Your Excellency, the Empire is rotten. It’s so rotten that the stench is overwhelming. How can they be fighting among themselves in this situation? The reason so many lords remain loyal to the Empire is because they have no choice. If a force capable of saving humanity emerges, they will all join it.”
“Hmm. That’s true.”
“So, I’m telling you, if you annihilate the Undead on the Western Front today, can you pledge allegiance to the new Empire?”
“If you possess that much power, I can pledge allegiance. But that’s impossible…”
“It’s possible.”
Usually, annihilation means losing more than 50% of the troops.
So, it means eliminating more than half of the million Undead. And that’s in just one day.
It was an absurd proposition.
However…
If something like that really happened, then I would have to reconsider everything.
“Alright. I’ll take your word for it.”
“You’ve made a wise decision.”
In reality, Duke Russell was simply grasping at straws.
The battle was imminent.
According to reports from the Western Front, it was on the verge of collapse with just one more attack.
Marquis Arden elaborated, “The enemies have built a mountain of corpses, allowing them to completely bypass the walls.”
“I saw it.”
Not only the report, but there were also photos taken by unmanned reconnaissance aircraft.
I was monitoring the situation in real-time.
As expected, it was a crazy tactic that only Undead soldiers could execute.
Building a mountain of corpses?
I’d heard the phrase ‘sea of corpses and blood,’ but such a hell had become reality.
“We can’t let these guys get away with this. We have to hunt them down one by one and kill them.”
“Of course.”
Murderous intent emanated from Marquis Arden.
It wasn’t directed at me, but at the Magic Kingdom bastards.
Perhaps everyone felt the same way. Those guys were doing something utterly senseless.
“Luna!”
“Yes!”
“How are the preparations progressing?”
“We have completed all preparations and are awaiting orders!”
All I had to do was give the command.
The moment the order was given, hundreds of field artillery would unleash their fury. They would strike the Western Front, Central Front, and Eastern Front.
The Central and Eastern Fronts would be targeted by opening a gate.
The moment the gate opened, a hellish landscape would unfold.
If we delayed any longer, each front line would collapse, and a massive wave of Undead would begin to move south. Once that southward movement began, it would be over.
The Undead would multiply endlessly, and if I didn’t intervene, the Empire would collapse. Even in this dire situation, the Empire’s central government was consumed by infighting. They were truly hopeless.
Of course, it was advantageous for me.
If the Empire weakened, it would be easier to establish a new one here.
“Duke Russell has pledged allegiance?”
“That is correct.”
I slowly rose from my seat.
Everyone’s eyes were fixed on me.
“We begin the war!”
