The Greatest Oil Field (2)
“Gasp!”
Lee Han-jin’s mouth opened so wide it felt like it would tear.
Saudi Arabia, a nation that reigns supreme in the Middle East solely on the strength of its energy resources. Yet, I’m telling him I’ve discovered an oil field that surpasses the entire oil reserves of Saudi Arabia.
Of course, how to extract that oil, transport it, and sell it is another matter, but the discovery of such a massive oil field was a momentous occasion.
“Mr. President?”
“I was just too surprised. My apologies.”
The President barely regained his composure.
Energy, depending on how it’s used, could shift the world’s wealth.
Although various alternative energy sources were being developed, oil was still closely tied to our lives.
The economy would grind to a halt if oil disappeared right now.
We would need to rely on oil energy to run industries for at least another 100 years. The same goes for automobiles.
Electric and hydrogen cars were emerging, but it would take some time for them to be fully adopted. The drawbacks of charging meant that the vast majority wouldn’t use electric cars.
The problems with electric cars included infrastructure, charging time, and battery management. Driving range was also an issue.
However, cars with internal combustion engines didn’t have any of those problems.
Oil was that important to modern industry.
“…So, in exchange for making Korea an oil-producing nation, you want the restrictions on defense to be completely lifted?”
“Hmm. I’m not exactly setting conditions. But to resolve things amicably, you could think of it that way.”
The President was already on the same boat as me.
If Soo Group were to relocate overseas now, the Korean economy would suffer irreparable damage.
I didn’t need to kidnap or imprison the President; I already held a powerful weapon.
“Haha, this is quite the irresistible offer.”
“Korea will now be able to set energy prices. No country will dare to wage war. And if they do, I’ll personally go and crush their leadership.”
“Reassuring.”
The President couldn’t possibly be unaware of what I had done to the United States and Russia.
That’s why everyone was being cautious.
The reason why I wasn’t facing international sanctions, despite indiscriminately acquiring numerous companies around the world, was because they knew my power.
The instigator could disappear from this world in an instant.
In the current situation, it wouldn’t be difficult for the President to lift the sanctions.
After all, no country would dare to say anything.
“As long as I’m alive, Korea will undoubtedly be in a position similar to that of a superpower.”
“Understood. I will lift the sanctions. However, the congressmen may object.”
“Wouldn’t one major issue bury another? If the people, beyond just the congressmen, object, then revealing that Korea has become an oil-producing nation and that our Soo Group is at the center of it will solve everything.”
“Hmm. What should I call this? You’ve got a trump card.”
“You’re quite the new generation. You even know gaming terms.”
“Hahaha. This is what you call a checkmate.”
“Well then, I’m counting on you, Mr. President.”
“Are you planning to produce it here and use it on the Karen Continent?”
“Of course.”
“Then that’s settled.”
The deal with the President was done.
I would guarantee an oil-producing nation, and the President would lift the restrictions on Soo Group.
That evening.
It was time to head over to the Karen Continent.
If I went now, the coronation could take place around the next day, time-wise.
People arrive at the mansion.
CEO Oh of Soo Refining had sent a technician who was practically a chief supervisor.
However, CEO Oh sent two more people along.
“I’m Kim Taek-soo, Development Director of Soo Refining.”
“I’m Ahn Geuk-rak, Team Leader of the Development Team.”
“I’m Lee So-hee, Section Chief of the Development Team.”
“Hmm. I only asked for one person. This is top secret. Beyond top secret, it’s ultra-classified. The government is treating this matter as ultra-classified as well.”
“We’ve agreed to a confidentiality agreement. We will absolutely not disclose the location of the oil field. That goes for the CEO as well.”
Director Kim Taek-soo said very politely.
A national ultra-classified secret.
The word ‘national’ made people quite nervous.
Indeed, an oil field surpassing Saudi Arabia meant possessing the power to control the world’s energy market.
It meant it had to be handled with utmost care.
For now, I decided to let them into the house.
My wife was preparing dinner. We had to fill our stomachs no matter what.
“Have you all eaten?”
“Not yet…”
“It’s such an important matter that we couldn’t get any food down. We were preparing and missed the time…”
“I see. We can just add a few more spoons and chopsticks, so let’s eat and then head over.”
“Thank you.”
CEO Oh must have had a reason for sending two more people.
I could slowly find out what roles they would play while eating.
Clatter, clatter!
The meal began.
At first, people couldn’t really get the food down.
If they mishandled a national secret, they could be charged with treason. They probably thought they had gotten caught up in something huge.
But on the other hand, this was also an opportunity.
Soo Group was growing at an unprecedentedly rapid pace around the world, and if they could secure a position in the corporate strategy office, they could wield more power than any other powerful figure.
They seemed to have many complex thoughts.
Soo-jung asked Kim Taek-soo.
“Director Ahjussi [Uncle], why do we need three people? Director Ahjussi can just do the training.”
“Well, that’s…”
“Soo-jung is my advisor. Go ahead and tell us.”
“Haha, yes.”
He cleared his throat for a moment.
He probably thought it didn’t make sense to discuss such an important matter with a child. But everyone shows the same reaction at first. Kim Taek-soo wasn’t showing any particularly special reaction.
“Ahem. It’s because the fields are different. We have a drilling expert, an expert in the overall system, and a structural expert. It doesn’t make sense for one person to supervise everything, and if we were to teach, it would take a long time and be inefficient.”
“One person could do it all, though. Soo-jung knows roughly about it too.”
“Hmm?”
Soo-jung explained in detail how drilling proceeds, how much the drill needs to penetrate, what the hydraulic pressure is, and what kind of steel should be used in what environment.
Naturally, people’s eyes widened.
“Heo [Wow]. I’ve heard that the young lady is a genius.”
“I’m just a little smart!”
“Soo-jung, what do you think?”
“It can’t be helped. Considering that if they sign the confidentiality agreement and don’t keep it, they’ll face various disadvantages and even go to jail.”
In short, breaking the confidentiality means ruin.
People put down their spoons and chopsticks while eating.
Soo-jung was saying such incredible things that the food wouldn’t go down their throats.
Soo-jung handed over the confidentiality agreement.
It wasn’t a standard document; several clauses had been added.
“Gasp! What’s with the penalty?”
“It’s 1% of the oil field’s value. If the secret is leaked, the damage won’t be just 1%. It’ll be enormous. I can’t tell you the details right now, but if you sign the agreement, I’ll let you know. Then you’ll understand what I mean.”
1% of the oil field’s value. It’s definitely not an amount that an ordinary person can handle.
No, it’s an amount that could bankrupt an entire nation, even if it were involved.
Gulp!
They swallowed hard.
But this was only a safety measure, and if they kept their mouths shut, no one would ever know.
Swish!
Kim Taek-soo signed first.
As if not to be outdone, Ahn Geuk-rak and Lee So-hee also signed.
Now they had crossed the point of no return.
Basement.
We were going to cross dimensions directly from here.
The destination was the Rhodes Desert, east of the Crystal Empire.
Also known as the Desert of Death, this place was overflowing with crude oil.
Before crossing over, I looked at the technicians.
“We are going to cross dimensions.”
“What did you say!?”
“Everyone is surprised at first. Now, I will open the door.”
As I activated the magic circle, the door to another dimension opened.
People were shocked to see another space right in front of them.
“Heok [Gasp]!”
“This is absurd!”
It was evening here, but it was morning in the other world.
The sun was setting here, but the sun was rising on the other side.
Above all, a cold wind rushed in. The desert dawn was quite chilly, and the temperature was felt here as it was.
Whoosh!
The highlight here was the sandstorm.
A cold sandstorm was blowing in the basement where there was nothing.
“Let’s go in when it calms down a bit.”
“Uh…”
“This is unbelievable.”
“What on earth is this?”
“It’s another world. In fact, is there a place on Earth with an oil field as massive as Saudi Arabia? If there were such an oil field, it would have been discovered long ago. In other words, the goal is to develop the oil field in another world and connect it directly to the refinery in Incheon.”
“Heo [Wow].”
“Everyone must be bewildered. Let’s go over for now. You can immediately tell that it’s another world.”
We crossed dimensions.
The moon was still out as the sun was about to rise.
It was embarrassing to even call it a moon, as a planet the size of Jupiter existed as a moon. The number of moons was four. In addition, two suns were rising.
It’s hard to see such a spectacle on Earth.
Just as people living in the Arctic have no particular interest in the aurora, people living here dismissed it as a natural phenomenon.
The technicians were horrified to see the four moons and two suns.
“Heok [Gasp]!”
“Am I dreaming right now?”
They even slapped themselves on the cheeks.
I know.
Ordinary people who come to the Karen Continent for the first time are very bewildered.
Even the black mages who knew about the existence of another world were speechless when they actually came here.
So, how great would the shock of ordinary people be?
“Now you realize why confidentiality is necessary, right?”
“Y, yes, of course.”
Whoosh!
As the wind blew once, the smell of oil permeated the air.
Crude oil was bubbling and creating puddles, and oil fields were formed like lakes.
The entire desert was full of oil fields like this, and people would now know why I said that an oil field surpassing Saudi Arabia had been formed.
“It’s still too early to be surprised.”
“……Yes?”
I drew a magic circle on the ground and opened the gate again.
Drrr!
From inside the gate, 10,000 workers began to cross over, each carrying their own tools.
Naturally, the technicians’ mouths dropped open.
