Staking a Claim (1)
I lead a total of 30 workers in a boisterous procession.
Unlike the thugs sprawled haphazardly around, my undead army is orderly.
Having reached the 3rd Circle, there’s no need to control them individually anymore. They move on their own, simply by understanding my will.
Indeed, raising my level was the answer. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to control them all.
As the workers approached with various tools, the gangsters swaggered to their feet and blocked the tunnel entrance.
Over 50 burly men blocking the entrance felt quite intimidating. Perhaps, in the past, I wouldn’t have even considered entering. I had too many mouths to feed back then.
But now, it’s different.
Though everyone was wearing winter coats, the tattoos creeping up their necks made it clear they weren’t ordinary people.
Among them, the largest and most menacing-looking man stepped forward.
Releasing a palpable aura of menace, the man sauntered towards me in a figure-eight pattern before leaning in close with a slightly hunched posture.
“Who are you?”
“I’m a contractor hired by H Group to reinforce this tunnel. Who are you to block my way?”
“Hey, just scram. I don’t want to get my hands dirty.”
“Since I’ve been hired, I have to proceed with the construction. I just need to do the reinforcement work. That’s the task I’ve been given. I don’t care if you try to stop the rest of the construction.”
“Hey, you son of a bitch, do you think this is a joke?”
“Your company may have its reasons, but so do I. My livelihood depends on this. Please move aside.”
“Look at this punk? He’s got guts. Hey, should I be scared of this little kid telling me to move? Oops, I just pissed myself.”
“Hahaha!”
“Boss, he’s a moron. Just rough him up a bit and be done with it.”
“Did you hear that? Go back if you don’t want to get beat up.”
Are they trying to show me some consideration?
It was obvious, but if I were going to turn back, I would have given up when I first heard their story. That’s what I would have done in the past.
If I fall, my family falls apart. That’s why I was always careful, no matter what I did. But now? There’s no need to do that anymore.
“Is that so? Then let’s shake hands.”
“Shake hands? This guy knows how to live in the world?”
The man, who seemed to be a gang boss or enforcer, extended his hand.
I gathered the Yin energy [dark, negative energy] from within my body and injected it into him.
At first, the man was bewildered by the sudden chill, but then he began to tremble violently from the cursed residue emitted by the various evil spirits. He screamed and collapsed.
“Ugh!”
“Boss, what’s wrong?”
“Are you okay?”
“Th-th-this bastard. What are you? What did you do to me?”
“He’s from Da Dakka Organization, you punk.”
“Where are you from?”
It was the man who spoke in standard Korean.
A bespectacled, intellectual-looking man. He didn’t look like a gangster at all.
He seemed to be in a high position here.
Regardless, I continued to spread my killing intent.
“Move aside while I’m asking nicely. My patience isn’t that deep. I’m just here to do the construction and leave. You can do whatever you want after that.”
“I see. You’re not someone we can reason with?”
At the man’s gesture, the gang members brandished various weapons.
Some even drew knives, as if they were serious.
Ah, are there no CCTVs [closed-circuit television cameras] here? What era is this to be drawing knives? I immediately formed a hand seal and cast Spirit Armor.
An intangible energy surrounded me, and a palpable tension filled the air.
“Are you guys filming an 80s movie right now?”
“You son of a bitch!”
The thugs charged.
For now, I’ll take the hits.
Clang! Clang clang!
The men began to strike the skeletons and me with knives, clubs, and crowbars.
But all that could be heard was the sound of metal striking metal, both from the workers and from my body.
I glanced back.
Lee Seo-kyung was recording the entire situation with a trembling hand. That’s enough.
“Enough evidence.”
“Huh?”
They were more bewildered than we were when we didn’t fall, no matter how much they hit us.
Even stabbing with a knife didn’t work. But they weren’t stabbing at the stomach or head.
Whether it was their own rule, they only cut or stabbed the legs or arms, and of course, the knife didn’t penetrate.
“Kids, let’s give them a little pat.”
The undead army moved.
Among those injected into the undead army, there were many former Japanese soldiers. Going back further, there were also samurai and others skilled in various battles.
I had absorbed nearly a thousand undead, so finding those who had learned martial arts was easy.
The undead moved quickly.
Pow!
“Kuaaaak!”
“Paaaaak!”
“Aaaaak!”
The gangsters were literally flying around.
I formed a hand seal and cast Dark Haste. The undead’s movements became even faster.
The sounds of breaking objects, bodies flying and crashing in the distance, and screams were rampant.
This was the orchestra of the powerful.
“Well, that was easy.”
I simply smiled as I watched the scene.
Not far from the battlefield.
As instructed by CEO Lee Yoo-sung, Lee Seo-kyung was recording the current situation with her phone camera.
Clearly, the gangsters were the ones who started the trouble and used violence. But the ones sprawled on the ground were also all those gangsters.
Thwack thwack thwack!
“Aaaaak!”
One employee of Da Dakka flew around, kicking the gangsters away.
Fluid kicking techniques unfolded.
It was like a scene from a movie.
Another employee wielded something like a switch, displaying swordsmanship. Flashy techniques from martial arts movies unfolded, and the gangsters fell with each hit.
Some employees headbutted mindlessly, while others simply overpowered and threw them.
One thing was certain: they had all practiced martial arts.
“H-how is that possible?”
In fact, when CEO Lee Yoo-sung first said he would charge head-on, I was very worried.
NK Construction was a company that was created when several organizations withdrew from illegal activities and legalized all their businesses from the beginning.
They seemed to be using them because they were skilled in the industry, but looking at their inner workings, they were nothing short of vile.
I thought that H Construction had built up connections with these kinds of guys after doing business for so long. Or perhaps NK Construction had been cleaning up after the H Group for a long time.
“What did that person do in the past?”.
I heard he ran a Korean restaurant.
He seemed to have no connection to that world at all, but judging by the way he fought, he seemed like a gangster who was famous in his prime.
There was no need for me to move, but I used martial arts with the help of an evil spirit.
There were many good things about reaching the 3rd Circle, one of which was being able to unconsciously use the skills that the evil spirit had learned in life.
Among them was a player who was famous for karate at the time.
I used the evil spirit’s skills to knock the gangsters away.
Paaaaak!
“Kuaaaak!”
I could feel my body floating.
After casting Dark Haste and several buff-related spells, my body was unbelievably strengthened. I doubted whether I was really the one fighting.
“Ugh.”
Has it been about 5 minutes?
No one was standing on the ground.
When everything was over, I made them kneel.
I approached the man who was the only one speaking in standard Korean.
“Hey.”
“Cough! What organization are you from?”
“Organization? I told you, Da Dakka Organization, you punk.”
“D-Da Dakka Organization?”
“We’re all just trying to make a living. How can you cause so much damage like this?”
“Hoo! Even if you deal with us like this now, those above won’t stand still.”
“Above? Are you talking about your gangster bosses?”
“We are strictly company employees.”
“Company employees? Don’t make me laugh. Guys with drawings all over their bodies and wielding knives are company employees? You’re just gangsters.”
I clicked my tongue.
After dealing with them directly, they were nothing special.
Violence was threatening when I didn’t have power, but once I had that power, it was no longer a threat.
Who said violence is above the law?
If you have the power to control that violence, it’s all useless.
“Anyway, it’s self-defense. I didn’t use any weapons like you guys. Bring more if you can. But one thing is for sure, if you touch my family, I will kill you all.”
I emitted killing intent from my eyes.
The bespectacled man trembled.
This was a warning, and it was also a sincere statement that I could really take action if they violated it even once.
I don’t care if I get hurt. But if anything happens to my wife or two daughters, I would definitely kill everyone in the NK Group and everything else.
I solved the problem easily and entered the tunnel.
They weren’t anything special. They were just big, but they didn’t have the skills of professional fighters.
Perhaps it’s because the gangsters created a company to do business, but their skills from their prime have completely rusted.
As soon as I entered the tunnel, the temperature dropped sharply.
I was already feeling that Samcheok’s weather was different from Seoul’s. Being in Gangwon-do, the weather was terribly cold, befitting its reputation.
I took out ten heat packs and stuffed them into various pockets and shoes, which made it a little more bearable.
For now, soil isn’t falling from the ceiling. It seems to be frozen due to the cold weather.
It’s not a problem for people to pass through, but the problem is that it collapses when equipment is brought in.
I immediately drew a hand seal.
Didn’t I suffer in Udo for today?
“Spirit Field.”
The evil spirits sleeping within the circle of my heart awaken.
They spread through my fingertips into the tunnel, firmly fixing the 30 meters in all directions that I was in charge of.
Ssssst.
It had the disadvantage of using a lot of dark magic, but once the dark magic was released, it could be left unattended for several hours.
I started construction right away.
It’s not like I have any special skills to do construction.
It’s a job of connecting H-beams [structural steel beams] to the H-beams that are embedded on both sides of the tunnel. Then, re-tie the rebar [reinforcing bars], install the formwork, and pour the concrete.
For now, I just needed to do that much reinforcement, and the rest was the domain of professional construction workers.
I used the nearest equipment to pull up the H-beams.
Connect them to the H-beams that act as pillars on both sides and weld them. I also had to drive screws into the ceiling, but the spirits were holding it, so the work was done safely.
“Well, that’s easy.”
