The royal palace was in an uproar the next day.
“Princess Adel is missing?”
“Yes… she hasn’t returned since her walk with His Highness the Crown Prince yesterday.”
“The Crown Prince is also missing?”
“Yes, Your Majesty.”
The King stroked his chin, deep in thought.
‘Perhaps they are together.’
If a man and woman spent the day together… the King’s lips twisted upward.
“If they are together, nothing serious will happen.”
“But…”
The royal guards expressed their unease at the King’s words.
“The Crown Prince is from the Empire. Do you trust him completely?”
“At least, he wouldn’t harm the Princess in my country.”
While the King and his subjects were in disagreement, Reilly entered after knocking.
“His Highness has sent word. He will return tomorrow.”
“Are you certain he is with Princess Adel?”
“Yes, Your Majesty. It seems they took a wrong turn while moving to another location to deliver the prepared gifts.”
Reilly presented the letter with Kavel’s handwriting to the King, awaiting his response.
“So, I don’t need to go looking for them?”
“I know where His Highness is. However, I am watching so as not to disturb their time together.”
The King nodded in relief at Reilly’s words.
‘Yes, if it’s the Empire’s sword [referring to Kavel, implying his skill and reliability], he can find anything. If necessary, he might even subdue the sword [overcome any obstacle].’
He wasn’t sure if the soldiers could face the Empire’s sword, but Adel’s power might make it possible.
“Thank you for informing me.”
“Then, I will go and wait.”
Reilly immediately left the audience chamber and headed to her room.
After looking around the city with Ren last night, Reilly returned to her room, and when he didn’t come even late, she went to Kavel’s room.
‘I’m glad I found the note.’
It seemed he had created this situation to buy enough time for the necklace to be made.
She was bothered that they were together, but if Adel had definitely left the necklace behind, then there was no problem with Kavel’s safety.
Reilly used Ren to create a letter in Kavel’s handwriting. It was better to use anything to avoid suspicion.
“Ren, have you finished identifying the Princess’s room?”
“We can go tonight.”
“We must not get caught.”
Ren swallowed his words at Reilly’s remark.
‘Wouldn’t it be enough to just get rid of her?’ If he said that, he would be nagged again.
Reilly opened the door and entered. Berham was startled and clutched his chest.
“I was surprised, thinking it was someone else.”
“No one should have come, though?”
Come to think of it, no one had come near the room.
“Is the progress going well?”
“Yes, I just need to finish it.”
“That’s a relief. Tonight, we plan to switch it with Princess Adel’s necklace.”
Reilly let out a sigh of relief as she looked at the necklace in Berham’s hand.
“His Highness the Crown Prince is missing…”
“I think he’s with the Princess. It seems like he’s trying to buy time…”
“Don’t worry! It’s almost done.”
Berham focused on his work after saying that. If the plan went wrong because of him, he wouldn’t be safe either.
“Then, I’ll come back tonight.”
Reilly quietly left the room with Ren.
* * *
“You seem to like high places when I look at you.”
Ren sat down with Reilly in a place located at the highest point of the palace.
“Maybe it’s because of Ren.”
“Then, will you think of me whenever you go to a high place?”
Reilly shrugged.
“I think we can watch here for a while and then move.”
“I don’t understand that guy at all.”
Ren counted the soldiers moving non-stop below with his fingers.
“What’s the point of counting when we don’t even have to face them?”
“It’s fun.”
Reilly quietly stared at the people with Ren.
“Come to think of it, that woman is amazing too.”
“Why?”
“She could introduce him to other nobles, but she’s monopolizing him.”
Come to think of it, Adel didn’t hold a party to invite other nobles.
If he was from the Empire, others would be curious, but he had been staying for two days and there was no particular banquet.
“It’s definitely strange.”
“Or maybe they can’t even complain.”
The rumor that the Crown Prince had come to the Kingdom of Pelleponsia had already spread. But still, they don’t even come to the palace to say hello.
“She might have a perfect grip on the royal authority.”
“Either she’ll have a banquet on the last day, or one of the two.”
It was better for them to be quiet than to have a banquet.
Because it means there are fewer things to worry about.
“But aren’t you worried?”
Reilly shook her head. If she was asked if she was worried about them being together, she would honestly say yes.
“But, I trust him.”
“Just like Kavel expected me to go to his room, I also expect what he’s doing.”
Ren found their trust amazing.
It was so solid and unwavering that there was no gap to squeeze in.
“Wow, look at the sky.”
Reilly tilted her head back and gazed at the sky, which was painted with subtle colors as the sun set.
The scent of the night sky carried on the wind made her want to lie down here for a few hours and savor the moment.
“Time goes by quickly when I’m with you.”
“I feel the same way.”
“…That’s why it’s annoying.”
Ren lay down on his back, looking at the sky and closing his eyes.
“I’m sorry for pretending not to know, even though I do.”
Reilly lowered her head in apology.
She couldn’t accept it. She knew Ren’s feelings, but she already had someone else in her heart.
“You don’t have to be sorry.”
Ren tapped the spot next to him with his hand, his eyes still closed.
“I’m not even human anyway. It’s funny that a sword has a heart.”
“Ren.”
“So don’t look at me with such pitiful eyes.”
Reilly quickly nodded.
“You just have to act as usual.”
Ren knew he couldn’t make her happy.
But he was confident that he could protect her so that she could be happy by her side.
“I’ll do what I always do, too.”
Reilly quietly lay down next to Ren and stared at the sky.
Today’s sky, seen with Ren, will never be forgotten. Because no one else would lie down with me on a high peak and comfortably look at the sky.
Reilly closed her eyes, following Ren, and enjoyed the moment, feeling the wind.
* * *
“Ren! Wake up.”
“Is it already night?”
Reilly woke Ren up, looking at the darkened sky.
Ren stretched and got up, looking around.
“The security has definitely increased at night.”
“Shall we go now?”
Reilly returned to her room and packed the completed necklace from Berham.
“Please be careful.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll be back as soon as possible.”
Berham nodded, looking tired.
He wiped the sweat from his sleeves, hoping that everything would end safely without any problems.
“Okay, let’s move.”
At Ren’s words, Reilly opened the door and looked around. Fortunately, it was late, so no one was around.
They quickly headed towards the Princess’s room.
“Is this the right place?”
“It looks like it’s the right place over there.”
Anyone could see that there were many guards.
Even though the Princess was away, they were standing guard firmly.
‘This is strange; anyone would think there’s something important here.’
Of course, if she left the necklace behind, Adel might have given special instructions.
“Did she really leave the necklace behind?”
“Hmm, I think I feel something.”
Reilly fiddled with the necklace in her pocket and rolled her eyes.
“I still don’t know.”
“It’s probably because it’s faint.”
“How about quietly knocking them out?”
Ren scratched his head at Reilly’s words.
“Is it possible with so many?”
“I’ll go talk to them, and Ren will take care of them from behind.”
“…You’ve become more ruthless than I thought.”
“There’s no other way, is there?”
Ren reluctantly nodded.
Reilly took a breath and walked towards them. The soldiers seemed to tense up at Reilly’s sudden appearance.
“What’s going on?”
“Ah, I think I got lost.”
“…Yes?”
The soldiers tilted their heads at Reilly’s words. They held the swords at their waists and watched her movements, not letting their guard down.
“There, behind you.”
Reilly pointed behind her, and in an instant, one soldier screamed and fell.
“What, what! Ack!”
“I was going to tell you to be careful.”
In an instant, the soldiers were knocked out one by one by Ren’s hand.
“No matter how I think about it, I don’t think I had to do this.”
“It’s just your imagination.”
Ren smiled and gestured for Reilly to open Adel’s door and enter.
Reilly gave a hollow laugh at the perfect escort.
“Hmm, now I have to find it.”
“Where would you hide it? Places like these frames or drawers are too obvious.”
Ren tapped and checked inside with his fingers.
“Hmm, if it were me…”
Reilly quietly looked around Adel’s room. The well-organized clothes and belongings seemed to be in their exact places.
“I’d put it in a place where no one would dare to touch it.”
She strode towards the bedroom.
“The maids clean the bedding, but they don’t look here.”
Reilly put her hand between the mattresses and groped.
And soon, Reilly’s hand, which came out of the bed, was holding the Princess’s necklace.
