415. Aching Finger
“Will things work out?”
Daegu looked up at the sky and asked worriedly. Rembrary nodded.
“Of course.”
It was a trustworthy answer. Daegu was relieved by the words, but in truth, Rembrary didn’t know for sure either. He was just answering.
“Redrin is an enlightened being, so he will negotiate well.”
“What should we do? Should we pray?”
Ninring asked cautiously, but Rembrary shook his head this time.
“Absolutely not. They must be in discussion right now, so we shouldn’t distract them by making noise.”
“Ah… I see. Then what should we do?”
“Let’s eat pizza.”
What does us eating pizza have to do with Redrin negotiating well? Ninring found it hard to understand, but Rembrary added with a sacred and solemn face.
“Let’s eat shrimp pizza.”
* * *
After eating shrimp pizza as a main course, followed by melon for dessert, and then kimbap [Korean seaweed rice rolls] because Rembrary claimed he was still hungry from giving way to others, they were eating ice cream, following another claim that if there were two meals, there should also be two late-night snacks.
Mulu frequently went to the window and looked up at the sky.
The people from another world that Rembrary had brought had their faith rekindled by the wondrous sight after a long time, and they went back after praying diligently for some reason.
But now a lot of time had passed, and those people had all returned. Now, Rembrary’s house in a good school district only had the people who usually lived there, those closely related to this matter, and the homeowner.
“You can go now, Anchovy.”
“I turned on the news and there were roses in the clouds. And my house is in the background right below it. What do you think?”
“The scenery has become prettier, so the house price will go up?”
While listening to Rembrary and Shin Jo-woon bickering from behind, Mulu stared intently at the sky. *Please, let things work out well…*
Then, the moment he sighed, the flowers that had bloomed fully began to wither one by one, and the vines that wrapped around the clouds also began to disappear.
The flowers and vines, which had been gathering in one direction as if rewinding, vanished in the blink of an eye, and the clouds also returned to white.
“He’s back!”
Mulu shouted in surprise, and Rembrary and the group stopped eating and all ran to the window.
Rembrary grabbed the window frame and looked up at the sky, calling out to Redrin.
‘Redrin. Redrin! Redrin?’
This time, the answer came directly to Rembrary. Rembrary took his hands off the window frame and closed his eyes, and the other priests and paladins all stepped away from Rembrary.
After a while, a smile appeared on Rembrary’s lips as he opened his eyes.
“Let’s make an appointment with Woo Yeon-woo.”
* * *
“What did Redrin say?”
Rembrary had been praying to Redrin for a long time, and then immediately made an appointment with Woo Yeon-woo. Ardore didn’t dare to speak and stared at him in fascination, only asking the question when it was time for dinner.
“I told Redrin about the current situation and asked if it would be possible to bring Lumena here or talk to her through Woo Yeon-woo.”
“Did he say it was possible?”
Rembrary nodded, holding his phone tightly in one hand and patting Ardore’s shoulder with the other.
“You’ve worked hard too.”
“What hard work? I only did what Rembrary told me to do. My heart aches just thinking that I couldn’t help Rembrary.”
“No, you’ve worked hard. Redrin said so. He said your praying voice is very loud.”
“?”
* * *
Woo Yeon-woo is only free for 30 minutes, so the meeting place should be near where he lives. But the Demon King’s close aides frequent that area, so they might see us meeting.
Due to these various restrictions, Rembrary eventually told Woo Yeon-woo to go into his room and lock the door, and then asked the Lion Lord if he could move directly to Woo Yeon-woo’s room without going through the living room or other places.
“Isn’t the house big?”
“It will be big. Because several people live together.”
“Then it might be difficult. My ability is for short-distance movement.”
Still, the Lion Lord said he would try his best and left the house. Rembrary moved to an empty house that wasn’t too close to Woo Yeon-woo’s accommodation but was quick to travel to and from, and waited for Woo Yeon-woo there.
About 5 minutes later, the Lion Lord finally appeared with Woo Yeon-woo in one arm.
“I told you, you don’t have to hold me like this!”
Having already fought several times on the way, Woo Yeon-woo was cursing at the Lion Lord from the moment he appeared.
Seeing people around, Woo Yeon-woo shut his mouth but glared at the Lion Lord the whole time.
“Stop it.”
Normally, he wouldn’t have interfered with them fighting to that extent, but now every minute and second was precious, so Rembrary stood up from the sofa and stopped them.
“Yeon-woo, come here.”
“Don’t order me around!”
“Yeon-woo, won’t you come here?”
“Don’t treat me like a dog!”
“How picky.”
Woo Yeon-woo flared up at Rembrary’s muttering, but shut his mouth when Rembrary approached him directly. He knew this wasn’t the time for that.
“Put your head here.”
“If you poke my eye in the middle of this—”
“I won’t, so put it here.”
Woo Yeon-woo looked at him warily, but Rembrary seemed to think this was enough and reached out his hand towards his head.
Woo Yeon-woo looked up, watching Rembrary touch his forehead, and then was horrified to discover another hand overlapping Rembrary’s hand at some point, almost falling over again.
This time, Mulu supported him from behind so he didn’t fall, but Woo Yeon-woo’s heart was pounding at an incredible rate.
“That hand… that… hand…”
“It’s Redrin’s hand. Coming here directly would be too noisy, so I asked to borrow his hand for a moment.”
“That’s even weirder!”
“Shh.”
Rembrary gave Woo Yeon-woo a look to be quiet and narrowed his eyes.
In fact, just borrowing a hand didn’t mean Rembrary could touch Woo Yeon-woo’s soul. To be precise, the current situation was closer to Redrin borrowing Rembrary’s hand.
Redrin would read the souls connected to Woo Yeon-woo and then simply tell Rembrary as usual.
But Rembrary couldn’t just stand there idly while Redrin was doing careful work, so he pretended to concentrate with a dignified attitude befitting a high priest, staring at Woo Yeon-woo’s hair, which was blacker closer to the roots. *Was it root touch-up that he needed at times like that?*
In the meantime, Redrin’s hand, which had been overlapping Rembrary’s hand, disappeared into the air, and Rembrary slowly took his hand off Woo Yeon-woo’s forehead.
Woo Yeon-woo looked at Rembrary nervously, and when Rembrary smiled and took a step back, saying it was done, he asked nervously.
“Is it done? What did you do?”
“Get a root touch-up, Yeon-woo.”
Woo Yeon-woo’s forehead furrowed.
“What? What are you talking about?”
“Your hair isn’t dyed closer to the scalp.”
“Did you touch my head just to see that?”
“Of course not.”
Rembrary smiled and waved his hand, then went to sit on the sofa. The group was relieved by his relaxed attitude. It seemed like things had worked out well. In fact, they didn’t know exactly what Rembrary had done to Woo Yeon-woo’s head either.
What Rembrary, or rather Redrin, had done was scan the souls connected to Woo Yeon-woo to accurately identify the world that Rembrary had been bounced out of before.
It was to talk to Lumena about the situation, but Redrin would do that more safely in his own space, so he wouldn’t do it here.
Woo Yeon-woo was still touching his forehead, looking like something was strange. Then, with a realization, he checked his watch and walked towards Rembrary, who was sitting on the sofa. His expression was firm.
“I don’t know what you did, but you did what you wanted to do. Right?”
“Yes.”
“Then it’s your turn to grant my request.”
“Speak.”
Rembrary waved his hand, and Woo Yeon-woo looked at his watch once, then at Rembrary once, and then at the others gathered in the room, and his face turned red.
He didn’t know what he was going to say, but it didn’t seem like something he could say confidently.
Still, without teasing him, he just watched quietly, and finally Woo Yeon-woo gestured for Rembrary to come over alone.
Ardore’s eyes turned fierce, but Rembrary knew that Woo Yeon-woo was like a delicate glass craft, so he obediently got up from the sofa and followed him.
Woo Yeon-woo went into an empty room and closed the door, then took Rembrary to the wall farthest from the door. Then, he checked the time, anxiously bit his lip, took a deep breath, and asked.
“Protect me from disappearing.”
Worried that Rembrary would laugh at him, Woo Yeon-woo clenched his fists tightly and looked at Rembrary with great tension.
Rembrary didn’t laugh. He didn’t even smile gently as usual.
As Rembrary listened to the story with a serious face, Woo Yeon-woo finally relaxed a little and lowered his shoulders, whispering.
“The time I’m awake is decreasing. …It wasn’t like this when you took over my body. My consciousness didn’t disappear. But the Demon King is different. When he’s in front, I forget my own existence.”
Woo Yeon-woo’s eyes wavered.
“Being trapped with consciousness is scary, but… disappearing is also scary. I’m so afraid that I’ll disappear like this, I’m so scared.”
Without realizing it, Woo Yeon-woo grabbed Rembrary’s arm and looked at him desperately.
“I don’t want to disappear.”
Rembrary knew how angry Woo Yeon-woo was at him for taking over his body, so he also knew how much fear Woo Yeon-woo felt about it. If Woo Yeon-woo didn’t feel fear about it, he wouldn’t have been so angry at Rembrary until now.
But even after getting his body back, the situation only got worse, so he ended up asking even Rembrary, whom he hated so much, for help.
Before saying how scared he was, his face was so red, but now Woo Yeon-woo’s complexion was pale.
Rembrary looked down at him, reached out his hand, and placed it on his head.
Woo Yeon-woo opened his eyes wide and looked up at Rembrary. He faintly thought, ‘Is that bastard going to talk about root touch-up again?’ but the thought disappeared when he saw Rembrary’s sad expression.
Rembrary looked down at Woo Yeon-woo, who was trembling, at the figure he used to see in the mirror every day, and smiled sadly.
“You’re a pathetic guy, but.”
“You—!”
“You’re an aching finger to me.”
“!”
“Even if you didn’t ask like this, I’m protecting you.”
“What… are you saying?”
“Don’t worry.”
Instead of explaining at length, Rembrary removed his hand from Woo Yeon-woo’s head and gave a strange smile that Woo Yeon-woo had never seen before.
