◈ 744. Please Don’t Go
“It’s unfortunate, but we must send him back, mustn’t we?”
At the High Priest’s question, the secretary priest looked at Heather.
“Rembrary is a kind and brave child. He has a unique personality, but he knows how to help those in danger. He was also the first to develop divine power and the first to use it, even more so than his peers.”
Heather murmured, as if reminiscing about the past. Then, she sighed and nodded.
“It’s a pity about his talent, but we can’t keep him here against his parents’ wishes. As the Chancellor said, Rembrary displaying divine power is enough to prove he has no connection to the demons. If necessary, I can step forward as a witness.”
The Emperor and Empress of Liburen were wealthy individuals with the most powerful force and authority in the secular world.
They weren’t parents who lacked interest in their children, considering they replaced all the trainee priests’ beds as soon as Rembrary sent a letter complaining about his bed being uncomfortable.
Rembrary would grow up well even if he returned to his original home.
“I thought he would become great after seeing him save the priests, but it’s a shame,” the secretary priest muttered gloomily.
“I should tell the Chancellor to take the child back then.”
The High Priest also decided to send the child back, though regretfully.
If Rembrary were a child being mistreated at home, they would try their best not to send him back.
But since that wasn’t the case, there was no need for them to keep the child while antagonizing the Liburen Imperial Family.
Just then.
The pen on the High Priest’s desk rolled once on its own. Not a round pen, but a quill!
“Just now……?”
Puzzled, the High Priest lowered his gaze, and a faint voice echoed in his mind.
[I like that child.]
The High Priest jumped up and knelt on the floor. Not knowing what was happening, Heather and the secretary priest also knelt down.
“Do you like that child, Rembrary, Redrin?” [Redrin is the name of their god]
The High Priest asked towards the sky. Heather and the secretary priest widened their eyes and looked at each other.
[I wish that child would continue to be my child.]
No further voice came down. The High Priest quickly finished his prayer and stood up.
“Did Redrin speak?”
the secretary priest asked in a trembling voice.
“Yes. Redrin wishes for Rembrary to continue his religious life!”
“Goodness.”
Heather exclaimed softly.
“Redrin must have liked seeing Rembrary helping people!”
Heather was so moved that her eyes welled up with tears.
“This is no time for this. We must persuade the Chancellor.”
The High Priest grabbed Heather and the secretary priest, who were still unable to get up, and shook them.
* * *
As Rembrary was holding the Chancellor’s hand and leaving the room, Heather rushed over and blocked the Chancellor’s path.
“Please, let’s talk for a moment.”
“Your Highness, please play with your secretary.”
The Chancellor readily agreed to the request.
“Have you come to a decision?”
The Chancellor asked leisurely, following Heather.
“The High Priest would like to talk some more.”
However, Heather took the Chancellor back to the High Priest’s room.
‘Still thinking about it? Just to take away a seven-year-old trainee priest?’ The Chancellor was puzzled but went inside.
Perhaps that seven-year-old was the prince of the most powerful nation, so they were being more demanding.
“Chancellor, I don’t know if I mentioned this earlier. It seems the two Emperors of Liburen are trying to take Rembrary away because they’re worried about the temple being dangerous, but the safest place is this temple.”
The High Priest said as soon as the Chancellor entered, before he could even settle down.
“He was attacked in this temple, though?”
The Chancellor retorted as if he had heard something absurd.
“Wasn’t he also kidnapped from the Imperial Palace?”
The High Priest countered with a smile.
“…….”
The Chancellor was speechless for the first time.
“I don’t understand.”
He frowned, staring at the High Priest’s seemingly benevolent eyes for a long time.
“Is there a reason you’re trying to hold onto the prince?”
“As I said, it’s because it’s safer here. If the reason for taking the child away is safety, then I need to inform you of this.”
“The Imperial Palace is safe now. Many guards will stay by the prince’s side. But here, the prince cannot have personal guards.”
The Chancellor said firmly. Moreover, his words were true.
Heather’s mouth was itching to tell the Chancellor that ‘Redrin likes Rembrary.’
However, instead of saying such things, the High Priest sighed heavily and said,
“Actually, I didn’t want to talk about this…….”
“?”
“It’s true that a black magician attacked the Great Temple. But after interrogation, it turned out that the black magician received a request from someone living in the secular world to attack Rembrary separately.”
“What are you saying?”
The Chancellor’s expression quickly hardened.
“It’s as I said. The movements of the black magicians are unusual. They even attacked the Great Temple. But such powerful black magicians targeted a seven-year-old child and attacked him. By request. Who would commission them?”
“!”
“Rembrary was already kidnapped from the Imperial Palace. Were they the same criminals from then? Or another enemy different from them?”
This was an issue that the Chancellor hadn’t considered.
The Chancellor had secretly obtained a report that a black magician attacked the Great Temple and Rembrary was caught up in it.
But he didn’t know that Rembrary being caught up in it wasn’t an accident but the enemy’s intention.
“……I will return to the Imperial Palace.”
The Chancellor eventually returned to the Imperial Palace.
Rembrary, who thought he was going home, felt dazed when he was left alone.
‘Redrin, Redrin. I thought I was going home, but I couldn’t go.’
When Rembrary prayed, the feathers he received on his birthday poured down over his head.
‘Are you comforting me?’
Rembrary gathered all the feathers, though he didn’t know what they were for.
A few days later. The golden carriage carrying the Chancellor came to the Great Temple again.
“His Majesty said that if both here and there are dangerous, then let the prince choose himself.”
The Chancellor presented a compromise to the High Priest.
The High Priest was a little embarrassed because he didn’t expect the Emperor to pass the choice on to a young child.
Children would naturally choose their parents and home. If asked, Rembrary would surely say he wanted to return home.
‘No. Did he aim for this and tell the child to choose directly?’
The High Priest was suspicious of the Chancellor, but it sounded the fairest.
“Rembrary, do you want to continue living as Redrin’s child in the temple, or do you want to return home and live without Redrin?”
The High Priest called Rembrary and asked.
“No, no. Your Highness. Do you want to continue living as a trainee priest in the temple, or do you want to live as a prince at home?”
The Chancellor glared and interrupted, correcting the question.
Rembrary widened his eyes and looked back and forth between the High Priest and the Chancellor.
He was told to live in the temple and sent here, but after a few months, he was told to go home. After telling him to come home, the Chancellor left him alone again after a few hours. He came back again after a few days, so Rembrary was confused about what was going on.
The High Priest and the Chancellor stared at Rembrary without breathing.
“I…….”
Rembrary stood blankly and pondered.
Of course, he wanted to go home. But the answer didn’t come out of his mouth easily.
He was a little worried. He came here after being told to stay in the temple, but after a few months, he was told to go home.
After doing that, the Chancellor left Rembrary alone again after a few hours.
He came back again after a few days, but Rembrary was uneasy. Even if he went home like this, he might be sent back to the temple again if the situation changed.
‘Redrin, Redrin. What should I do? Does Redrin want me to go home?’
Rembrary asked Redrin. Redrin was a god and a great being, so he would find a more appropriate answer than himself.
Lumena poked Redrin.
[What are you going to do?]
Redrin was sorry that Rembrary was too young and weak to hear his direct answer.
Redrin blew wind over Rembrary’s head.
Rembrary looked at the ceiling. Sparkling flower petals were falling over his head.
When he raised his hand, a petal landed gently on his palm.
‘Redrin, are you scattering flowers to say goodbye?’
When Rembrary asked, touched, Redrin frowned, and Lumena rolled around holding her stomach.
“Redrin really cares about you, Rembrary!”
Fortunately, the perceptive High Priest grabbed Rembrary’s shoulder with tears in his eyes.
Rembrary, who thought the scattering petals were a farewell, looked at the High Priest, bewildered.
“Really?”
Then, when he turned around, even Heather and the secretary priest were kneeling on one knee and looking at Rembrary.
“Oh my…… oh my, oh my.”
The Chancellor muttered, half out of his mind.
“What did I say? I said Rembrary is a talented child!”
The High Priest shouted, feeling energized.
‘Redrin? Did you scatter flowers to tell me not to go? Redrin likes me so much!’
Rembrary also lifted his chin, feeling energized.
“Such a miraculous thing.”
The Chancellor was still muttering, unable to escape from the shock.
Heather straightened her knee and took off the petals that had fallen on Rembrary’s head.
“High Priest.”
In the bright atmosphere, the High Priest called the Chancellor in a much calmer tone.
When the Chancellor looked over, smiling brightly, the High Priest asked.
“Redrin scattering flower petals to tell our prince to stay means that he has decided to make our prince a High Priest, right?”
The Chancellor belatedly came to his senses and began calculating in his head.
“The temple is in our prince’s hands, no, is our prince in Redrin’s hands?”
The High Priest frowned at the Chancellor’s fleeting ambition but shook his head, thinking that’s how secular people were.
“That’s not it. Not everyone who is favored by Redrin becomes a High Priest. But since he cherishes the child this much, Rembrary will rise to the position of a high-ranking priest without any problems.”
Even if they were loved by God, there were many who couldn’t use divine power properly because their vessels were small.
But Rembrary already had a halo at a young age and could use it appropriately.
Rembrary’s future was very bright.
“I see. At least a high-ranking priest…….”
The Chancellor muttered, continuing to turn his head.
When Rembrary stared at him, the Chancellor finally took his hand off his mouth and smiled.
“Our prince is truly brilliant. He stands out wherever he goes. Our prince is truly the best of the best.”
“Yeah!”
Rembrary’s chin rose so high it almost touched the sky.
Heather gently lowered Rembrary’s chin.
“Chancellor.”
In the bright atmosphere, the High Priest called the Chancellor in a much calmer tone.
When the Chancellor looked over, smiling brightly, the High Priest asked.
