After buying the tickets, we headed inside.

I came to the zoo because Heena wanted to, but, as I mentioned, I was really looking forward to seeing the red pandas. I even have a dedicated folder for their photos on my computer.

Since I made the trip, I wanted to add to my collection. Maybe a shot of a red panda standing on its hind legs, looking like it’s about to attack.

The unique zoo smell hit me as we walked in, and seeing the animals, my heart started to race.

“Let’s hurry! Our red panda is waiting!”

“They’re pretty far in, okay? Let’s take it easy. Good girl?”

As if to shush me, she put a finger to her lips as soon as we stepped inside. I kissed her without a second thought.

Humans are adaptable; after that intense make-out session before coming in, I barely feel embarrassed anymore.

It’s not just a quick three-second peck. I can even take a little break and go back for more, totally relaxed.

Besides, Heena seems to enjoy this change, smiling and puckering her lips.

“So, what’s worth seeing around here?”

“Hehehe…”

Heena giggled at my question and pulled out a pamphlet from the entrance.

“The closest things are… giraffes and zebras, I think? They’re up to the left.”

“Hmm. I’m not really into the big guys, but since we’re here, I guess I should see them at least once.”

“You like small animals?”

“Yeah, I do. Heena, hold on a sec.”

I stopped Heena and pulled out the small parasol I’d brought just in case.

My mom used to use it. It’s foldable and a solid color, so I figured it would be okay to bring along. Seeing how sunny it is today, I’m glad I did.

I opened the parasol and shaded Heena from the sun.

Heena stared at it, surprised.

“Where did you get this?”

“It’s my mom’s.”

“You brought it to protect me from the sun?”

“Of course. I’d be devastated if your skin got damaged.”

“Really~?”

Heena looped her arm through mine, the one holding the parasol.

Her chest brushed against my arm, sending a strange shiver down my spine.

It wasn’t exactly soft because of her bra, but it was still enough to make my heart flutter.

Keeping my expression neutral, I walked around the zoo with the parasol.

I wasn’t super interested in the big animals, but I was still impressed when I saw the giraffes, hippos, gorillas, and so on. Finally, we came across our first small animal.

-Gurgle, gurgle!

This little guy, making a strange noise and standing on two feet, was looking around.

“Oh my god, the meerkats are so cute…”

“Do you think they’d bite if you touched them?”

“I don’t know. Oh! They’re looking this way!”

Two of them started staring at me. Excited, I pressed myself against the glass and made eye contact.

These tiny, adorable creatures with their sparkling eyes!

I wanted to pet them, but there was a glass wall between us.

There was an open area on the side, but even if I went there, I still couldn’t touch them directly.

So, I stayed close, took pictures, and made gestures, hoping they would notice me.

After about twenty or thirty minutes of that, Heena gently tugged on my sleeve.

“Shall we go now?”

“Can’t I watch a little longer? They’re so cute.”

“…We still have to see the red pandas, remember?”

“Ah… right.”

Reluctantly, I moved away from the glass. More of them looked at me, as if telling me not to leave, which broke my heart.

“Take care…”

I said goodbye and left the meerkat enclosure. I took a few more pictures, but I was still sad about leaving.

With drooping shoulders, I headed to the next exhibit. Of course, with a stop in between.

After passing the camels and hyenas, we walked a little further and entered an indoor exhibit.

Usually, these indoor spaces have more small animals than large ones, and I prefer small animals, so I was excited to see what was inside.

The first thing I saw was a raccoon.

“A raccoon!”

“It’s almost like a raccoon dog [Tanuki, a Japanese raccoon dog].”

“Those are cute too!”

“…Yeah, they are.”

The raccoon’s chubby appearance, especially the stripes on its tail, was irresistible. It was piercing my heart.

I stuck close to the glass again, taking pictures and watching the slowly moving creatures.

Besides the raccoons, I also saw a kinkajou, which reminded me of Pikachu [A pokemon character].

I saw bats and skipped the insect hall next door.

Then, we immediately went to where the arctic foxes were supposed to be, according to Heena.

“They’re not here…”

“Oh, they don’t keep them outside in the summer?”

“Aww… I bet arctic foxes are really cute too…”

“…That’s too bad.”

Unfortunately, I couldn’t see the arctic foxes because they’re more active in the winter, so they move them to another location during the summer.

We spent time looking at the other animals.

Honestly, I was a hundred times more excited than Heena to see everything.

I just can’t get enough of cute animals.

After wandering around for a while, we found a snack bar and ordered lunch.

Two hot dogs.

“Is this okay?”

“I like hot dogs too.”

I felt happy to hear that and watched her take a bite. A little ketchup got on her lips.

I grabbed Heena’s hand before she could reach for a tissue.

I knew Heena would like this.

“?!”

I leaned in and gently licked the ketchup off her lips. Heena’s eyes widened in surprise. I savored the reaction and the taste on the tip of my tongue.

A little ketchup, a little sunscreen, and a lot of Heena.

That’s how I’d describe it.

After my little taste test, I looked at her. Heena, who I expected to be smiling and happy, was looking down and shuffling her feet.

“Ye, Yeonhu is… so… bold…”

She mumbled something.

I couldn’t hear exactly what she was saying, but it didn’t sound like she hated it, so whatever.

After finishing the hot dogs, we continued wandering around, looking at the animals.

Mostly the cute ones, of course.

“A rabbit… should we get a rabbit?”

“You like them that much?”

“They’re so cute! It’s like they’re not even from this world.”

“…Are they really that cute?”

“The cutest.”

“…Then I’m… no. Yeonhu, there are sheep over there.”

“Huh, sheep?! Can I touch their fur?”

After the rabbits, I made eye contact with the sheep, which had surprisingly soft, yellowish fur.

I kept kissing Heena, who was becoming less talkative, on her lips and cheeks.

“The capybara’s slow movements… are deadly.”

“…Is that cute too?”

“Very. Why are they so cute? They’re so precious.”

I looked around, following my own preferences, and finally decided to go see the long-awaited red pandas.

To be honest, I wanted to see all the cute animals a little longer, but I suddenly realized that Heena might be tired from all the walking.

So, I asked Heena if she was tired.

“I’m okay… no, no. I think I’m a little tired! So, should we just see the red pandas and take a break?”

She said that, so I changed direction and headed for the red panda exhibit.

Excited to finally see them, I urged Heena along and arrived at the Red Panda Bridge at a fast pace.

There, several adorable creatures were crawling around on the ground.

Just seeing them made me weak in the knees. It was too much.

I didn’t get to see them standing on two feet and threatening me like in the memes, but their existence alone was precious.

I immediately grabbed my phone and started taking endless pictures with trembling hands, muttering like a madman.

“I want to take a red panda home… I want to live with them… I want to live with the red pandas…”

Heena didn’t react much to the cute creatures, but I was too focused to notice.

I finally snapped out of it and looked at her.

Seeing Heena frowning with a pouty face, I realized I was too obsessed with the red panda.

She didn’t loosen her expression and took a step closer.

“Hoo─”

My girlfriend took a deep breath, blushed, and shouted.

“Gi, give Heena a kiss-!”
