Magic is a Waste to Learn – Episode 176
# 176
Legion 1 of the Underground World
The underground market wasn’t just a place where rare goods were displayed. If it were, it wouldn’t have thrived so much.
There were quite a few attractions and entertainments here that you couldn’t find anywhere else.
The most popular of these was ‘Murderous Combat,’ a deathmatch.
The kingdom prohibited slave trading and drugs by law.
Naturally, murderous combat where people kill each other was also strictly prohibited by law. If caught, it meant the death penalty.
The powerful absolute monarchy governed the kingdom by law. Even the local nobles must never break the law.
So why was this illegal underground market formed here? Ironically, it was because the royals permitted it.
This place was a special zone.
In simple terms, it was a special zone created for merchants from empires or other countries where gambling and combat were legally allowed. Of course, that’s just in name only.
Ninety percent of the users here were citizens of the country.
Perhaps the royals and nobles were allowing this place for their own enjoyment.
“Waaaaaaah!”
“Kill! Kill!”
“Blow his head off with a sword! Don’t kill him in such a boring way!”
“I bet 100 gold on you guys. If you lose, I’ll buy you as slaves and burn you to death!”
At least several hundred people were gathered.
They were shouting with money in their hands and veins popping out of their necks. Almost all of their eyes were glazed over.
Where they were looking, there was a large circular arena that seemed to be 50 meters in radius. The floor looked like sand, but it was dark and murky. The color of the sand had changed because blood had soaked into it.
This was the most popular murderous combat arena in the underground market.
Did they actually commit murder?
Not necessarily. But… sometimes it happened, and they didn’t make an issue of it when it did. Rather, people were more enthusiastic about such games.
“Kuh-huh-heok!”
A large man collapsed.
A small man went behind him, grabbed his neck, and twisted it. The large man, with his neck twisted 180 degrees, stuck out his tongue and collapsed on the floor. The small man, bruised all over, raised both hands in the air.
“Wow! That little guy is amazing! Well done. I earned 200 gold thanks to you.”
“Good! Good! Good!”
The audience was ecstatic.
A host dressed as a clown entered the arena. He shouted to the audience.
“Now, this is a special match, everyone! You know the dwarves, right? A race famous for having many artisans!”
“Yes! Of course, I know!”
“I’ve met those guys before. They were stubborn and didn’t understand a word I said. Annoying races.”
“Yes, yes, everyone knows them well. The game that will take place from now on is a battle between two dwarves and a two-headed lion.”
“Ooh! That sounds fun. Dwarves and a two-headed lion!”
“But that doesn’t make sense. A two-headed lion? They’re stronger than the Great Orcs. Dwarves can’t win!”
“Yes, of course. So this game isn’t about guessing the winner or loser. It’s about how long they can last! A time-guessing game. I’ll hand out the papers now. Please write down the time!”
The host dressed as a clown waved his hand.
Then, colorful flower petals scattered everywhere. Fireworks burst with a ‘poof’ sound.
It was like a magician.
The audience was enthusiastic-
Two dwarves.
Bede and Lulu were dragged into the arena.
They turned pale as they looked at the snarling two-headed lion in front of them.
* * *
Legion was wandering around the underground market.
Lactorerium had definitely entered this place. But the signal was lost as soon as it entered the underground market.
And Legion and Mark were very surprised to see that there was such a vast underground world.
-It seems wider than Lotto World.
What is Lotto World?
-An amusement park in Jamsil [a district in Seoul, South Korea].
Jamsil? Amusement park? What is that?
-Um, it’s a place name. An amusement park is literally an amusement park.
Mark created an image of the amusement park and downloaded it directly into Legion’s brain.
Wow! Is this possible? A building that humans can make?
-It’s one of the technologies of the future. But this place seems wider than that. I doubt who the ancient people were. They seem to have architectural technology very different from the technology of the future.
Indeed.
Legion nodded.
The height of the ceiling alone is over several tens of meters.
The width was so vast that it could swallow up a ground city. It seemed impossible to build without a god.
Legion opened the booklet. Next to the booklet, it was written like this.
-A guidebook for novice travelers to Underland.
He had been opening the booklet and looking at the map since earlier, but it was so wide that it was not easy to know where to find what.
Mark also stopped scanning.
Because there were more than 10,000 people gathered here, Legion’s brain overloaded while scanning. Hundreds of dots flickered in his head, causing a terrible headache.
It wasn’t easy to find Bede.
He had to check the faces of those who looked like dwarves one by one. Legion, who had been searching the underground market for several hours, gave up halfway.
-Use the guild.
Mark said.
I was trying to save money.
Legion sighed and found a nearby information guild. And he drew Bede and Lulu on paper and asked them to find them. The information guild member looked at the portraits of Bede and Lulu and asked, ‘Are they orcs?’
Is this bastard blind?
“They are dwarves.”
Legion replied in the voice of Sergeant Kim, who had returned from hell [a reference to a strict and demanding military figure].
The guild member was so surprised that he almost peed his pants. Still, his sense of duty was thorough. He demanded 500 gold in advance.
Damn expensive.
He said he would give 500 more gold if he found them.
“If you find them. If you can’t find them, I’ll get double back.”
Legion also threatened.
The guild member trembled. Nevertheless, he seemed confident in finding them.
“Why don’t you wait while hugging a woman somewhere, customer? I’ll find them within 3 hours.”
Legion prayed inwardly.
Please, just go over 1 minute from 3 hours. Then I’ll make a scene and not pay. Because a promise is a promise. He was going to rip off twice the money.
Unfortunately!
The guild members found Bede and Lulu in less than 2 hours.
“They are in big trouble?”
The guild member, who was scared but said everything he wanted to say, said.
“What’s the big deal?”
“Those dwarves are in deep trouble.”
“So what?”
“They are in the murderous combat arena now.”
“Murderous combat arena?”
“Yes, they put slaves or people with big debts into the game, in exchange for paying off the debt. The dwarves are now playing a killing game in the murderous combat arena.”
Bede and Lulu are playing a killing game?
“Why?”
“Because they are in debt.”
“To whom?”
“…….”
The guild member did not answer.
You are really going to be rich.
Legion took out 5 gold from his pocket and handed it to the guild member. The guild member smiled and received the money.
“The dwarves owe money to Freeza.”
“Who is Freeza?”
“He’s a notorious loan shark. He’s so vicious that he’s second to none in this business. I wouldn’t be surprised if the dwarves had all their money taken away and were in debt. I feel a little sorry for them.”
“To save them?”
“It’s too late. The killing game is in progress now. The stakes must have been huge already. The game can never be stopped. You’ll have to collect the bodies.”
“Where is that place?”
“I’ll guide you. I usually get a guide fee, but it’s service today.”
The guild member dusted off his butt and got up from his seat.
* * *
Legion frowned as he found the murderous combat arena.
He didn’t like the crazy enthusiasm of the people. These crazy bastards are so enthusiastic while watching people die… Tsk! I’m going to kill them all.
Legion walked inside the spectator seats of the murderous combat arena.
“Hey, what? Don’t push me!”
A rough-looking man who collided with Legion looked at Legion.
He met Legion’s bloodshot eyes. Instantly, the man felt intimidated as if he was facing his deceased father. He seemed to be saying, apologize to this person quickly!.
“I, I’m sorry. Please go ahead.”
The man trembled and gave way to Legion.
Legion walked with his mouth shut.
Clang, clang.
“Kill! You have to kill him now! There are only 10 seconds left!”
“Dwarves! Hold on for just one more minute! If you hold on for just one more minute, I’ll pay for your funeral expenses!”
The people shouted as they watched Bede and Lulu cornered.
In reality, the situation was very bad.
The two-headed lion was twice as big as a normal lion. It was three times as agile. They were very dangerous creatures located between monsters and carnivores.
It was only a matter of time before they were eaten by the two-headed lion.
“Keuh-heuk.”
Lulu, who was wielding a hammer to protect Bede, stumbled.
The hammer flew away from the forepaw wielded by the two-headed lion. Lulu couldn’t withstand the impact even though it only grazed him, and he dropped the hammer.
Nevertheless, Lulu’s eyes did not lose their spark. He was someone who had fought against a three-headed Medusa. Of course, he turned to stone in less than a minute after encountering the three-headed Medusa.
-Krrr.
The two-headed lion licked its lips as it looked at Bede and Lulu.
Saliva dripped between its sharp fangs. It was about to slap Lulu’s head with its forepaw.
Thud!
It was that moment.
Legion jumped into the arena.
The voices of the people who were cheering stopped as they watched Legion suddenly jump in.
The two-headed lion, which had eaten so many people that it had no fear of humans, also stopped.
Clang, clang.
Legion walked towards Bede and Lulu.
“L, Legion?”
Bede and Lulu knew Legion who had received plastic surgery magic.
They were quite surprised to see the hideous armor. And he appeared here?
Knowing it was him, they didn’t understand well. It wasn’t the timing for Legion to appear.
“Where did you sell my Lactorerium?”
Legion asked.
His voice was low. It was terrifying.
Bede and Lulu trembled in fear even though they knew that the armored man was Legion. It was a voice that had a primal fear that shook the abyss.
“I didn’t sell it.”
“Bullshit.”
“Really. There’s no reason for me to sell your Lactorerium.”
“You guys ran away with my Lactorerium.”
“Run away? Us? Why?”
“Because you coveted the Lactorerium.”
“What do you think of us? That’s not it!”
“You’re denying it.”
“It’s not a denial! We needed more materials to make your staff. So we came here to buy those materials.”
“Lies.”
“You’re a wizard. You can do lie detection magic, right? Try it once. Whether we’re lying or not.”
Bede replied confidently.
The thought that he might die disappeared. His expression became much more comfortable.
Even before going into that strange armor, Legion was strong.
He was a monster who single-handedly defeated the three-headed Medusa.
Compared to the three-headed Medusa, that two-headed lion was just a puppy.
Now he was alive.
Legion had doubts as he looked at Bede’s bright eyes.
Is it real? Could it be that I misunderstood?
-Cast lie detection magic as Bede said.
Legion nodded. Anyone who is a 3-circle worker can use lie detection magic. Of course, it doesn’t perfectly distinguish lies. It’s because it judges lies by the number of heartbeats that change.
But it usually fits well. It uncovers the truth 90% of the time.
Legion cast lie detection magic. Yellow light fell on Bede’s head.
“Does Bede have no shame about Lactorerium!”
“Wait a minute, what kind of question is that? You should ask if he stole the Lactorerium?”
-False! False!
Bede was caught in lie detection magic.
