Magic is Learned in Vain – Episode 209
# 209
Hunter Rescue Operation 1
Legion, Drezzer, Sharon, and Beyond stared at the incredibly beautiful woman before them, who was looking at them with anxious eyes.
Her name was Tando.
She was the fourth member of the Anti-Tank Cannon Treasure Hunter team and the only one who had escaped the vampires’ encirclement.
The reason she was in the Beyond conference room was that Tando had come to them directly.
Having escaped the encirclement, Tando had planned to cross the city walls and bring in mercenaries. She had enough money, so her goal was to gather mercenaries and have them come here to rescue her comrades.
With her funds, she could hire at least 1,000 mercenaries and still have money left over.
But-!
How long would it take to go to the city, put out an advertisement, recruit mercenaries, and then come back here? It would take at least a month, even at the fastest. Plus, they would have to cross the infamous Dusselrup Mountains.
It might take more than three months.
The chances of her comrades surviving in the meantime were zero.
She couldn’t just think, ‘I survived, so I should enjoy myself,’ and go somewhere else.
Her life couldn’t be explained without Napalm Unnie [Korean term for older sister or female friend].
Napalm Unnie and the Anti-Tank Cannon Treasure Hunter team were Tando’s life itself.
She could never let them die.
Tando thought fiercely. She racked her brain. She had to rescue her comrades from here without crossing the ice walls. Then, she came up with one idea.
Don Dechman and Jack Nicher.
They were subhuman butchers… but they loved money.
If she was unlucky, she might get her head chopped off as soon as she met them.
But there was no other way.
“So, you’re asking us to help you?”
Legion said in a voice like Sergeant Kim returning from hell [referencing a figure known for toughness].
Tando was hearing Don Dechman’s voice for the first time. She was so shocked that she almost lost consciousness and collapsed on the spot. She was amazed that such an ugly voice could exist.
Don Dechman was famous for his demonic nature.
However, other than his terrible personality, nothing else was known about him. Tando realized why just now.
He was a monster that was impossible to describe.
Still….
Tando clenched her small, delicate fist.
If she could bring in Don Dechman and his subordinate Jack Nicher, the success rate of the comrade rescue operation would increase considerably.
“Yes, please help me.”
Tando said softly, clenching her teeth.
“Are you crazy? Why should we? Do you know that we’ve been framed as the masterminds behind the Crown Prince’s assassination because of you?”
“Yes, I’ve heard the rumors.”
“Then why should we help you?”
“Because you know the truth.”
“What truth?”
“My unnies [Korean term for older sisters or female friends] didn’t kill the Crown Prince.”
“How do we know? You could be killing him and then trying to get away with it. You might be trying to put the blame on us to get out of it.”
“Absolutely not. I’m a sniper. I was watching the whole situation from the farthest point. At the time, we were just planning to swipe the ‘Blood Oriharukon.’ But… when we opened the carriage door, Hank was already dead.”
“What are you saying? He was already assassinated inside the carriage?”
“I’m sure of it. Our team members were very embarrassed. That’s when I felt something was wrong. Yes, it was like we had fallen into a trap.”
“Someone set a trap and waited for you to fall into it?”
“No. It must have been someone else, not us.”
“Who?”
“Who would have tried to attack the Crown Prince before us?”
“Us?”
“How did we find out about the ‘Blood Oriharukon’?”
“Is it because of us?”
“That’s right. At first, we thought we had just gotten lucky. We thought Princess Sharon was selling the ‘Blood Oriharukon’ to you.”
“You didn’t hear the whole story. I wasn’t selling it, but I was going to give it as a reward if they saved the kingdom.”
Sharon chimed in.
She seemed uncomfortable being branded as a traitor to her race.
“That’s not the point. Who could it be? Who knew that you would attack the Crown Prince? I don’t know. But don’t you know?”
At Tando’s words, everyone’s eyebrows furrowed inward.
A man came to their minds.
Second Prince Spielberg.
Sharon’s second older brother.
That day, Sharon had a complete falling out with Spielberg. But it was after their plans had already been exchanged.
Other than that, no one could have predicted that Sharon would attack her older brother.
Only Spielberg.
But why?
From Sharon’s point of view, it didn’t make any sense. Why would her younger brother, who had fought alongside her for so long to protect the royal family, do that?
“I see.”
Legion opened his mouth.
Everyone’s eyes were on his terrifying helmet.
He opened the face mask of the helmet. A finely chiseled jawline and lips redder than strawberries were revealed. It wasn’t a complete face, just the jaw and lips, but-
Ah, he’s so handsome, even when I see him again. What should I do? Am I crazy? I want to hug him again, even if I get hit again.
Sharon thought.
Oh my, what is it? Was Don Dechman originally a great beauty? Why is he covering his face when he has such an outstanding appearance? Ah! He’s so infamous that he deliberately covers his face. Poor man. I want to embrace this man’s cruel yet sad life with my heart.
Tando felt true love for Legion.
She also realized that love doesn’t come from someone you’ve been with for a long time.
Love comes suddenly. Like now.
Instantly, Sharon and Tando’s eyes met.
A woman knows a woman’s heart.
They realized how each other felt about Legion. A fierce hostility arose in her eyes, which had been indifferent until just now.
Whether they loved him or not, Legion didn’t care at all. Legion hated ugly things.
If it’s a woman, it should be at least Amadeus!
Legion said bluntly.
“The enemy wasn’t Hank.”
“You’re saying my older brother didn’t bring in the enemies?”
Sharon asked.
“Yes.”
“Then?”
“It’s your younger brother. The leader of the enemy is Spielberg.”
“My younger brother?”
“You said almost all the members of the Death Squad were assassinated, right?”
“Yes. Now there are only four people left, including my father, who is in critical condition. Hank is dead.”
“You, your father, and Spielberg?”
“That’s right.”
“Who’s the last one?”
“I don’t know. I’ve never seen who’s left.”
“How many people have a grasp of all the organizational charts of the Death Squad? It must be one of those four. And also someone who can get closest to the King. Right?”
“Hmm.”
“Excluding you and the King, there are three. In fact, we should have suspected those three from the beginning. Why did Hank even make it onto the list of suspects?”
“My second older brother… did it. He moved the Punitive Force. He said he was erasing all traces of those related to the ‘Black Dragon’s Blood.'”
“Let’s think about it differently. The reason why Hank had no choice but to act that way. Could it be because he couldn’t trust anyone? Because he couldn’t trust you or Spielberg either. What was his purpose? Was it to protect the royal family? Or to destroy it?”
“My older brother is most like my father. He’s steadfast and loyal. He’s not a vampire who would ever betray my father. So when I heard that my father had collapsed, and my younger brother pointed to my older brother as the culprit, I was really surprised.”
“You were deceived.”
“Now… I know.”
Sharon bit her lip.
Why did her younger brother do such a thing? Even to the point of putting her father in critical condition and killing her brother!
What glory is there for him?
“What should I do now?”
It was as if the vitality had suddenly drained from Sharon’s body.
Indeed, this is a fratricidal strife. Even if Sharon survives this game, what will be left in her hands?
“It’s going to be tough, but you have to keep your wits about you. Otherwise, you’ll end up as Spielberg’s prey.”
“I know.”
Sharon nodded calmly. However, her once-lost vitality did not return.
“Our leader will have the evidence.”
“What evidence?”
“There was a magic stone that activated CCTV magic in the carriage that the Crown Prince was riding in. Our leader swallowed it. If we save our comrades, we can get it. Then, we can find out who assassinated the Crown Prince, right? So please help us.”
Legion wanted to massage his temples.
It was a situation of adding insult to injury, but did he really have to risk his life to save women he didn’t even know?
* * *
Sephia saw three giant trolls appear before her.
Two heads. But they weren’t Twin Head Trolls. There was a head that had only grown halfway attached to the side of their heads. The parasitic heads only made ‘woo-woo’ sounds and didn’t seem to have any special abilities.
They were extremely rare deformities in the Dusselrup Mountains, where the air was clear.
Recently, these deformities had been appearing sporadically. The reason was unknown.
It was a very ominous sign.
They were so ferocious that once they appeared, they would turn the area into a wasteland. It was as if they were born to eat all life in the world.
They killed their parents who gave birth to them, killed their own kind, and destroyed everything around them.
After discovering the deformities for the first time, Sephia regularly patrolled the Dusselrup Mountains.
Then today-
Deformities that hadn’t appeared for a while suddenly appeared, not just one, but three. It seemed they had already had a party of slaughter.
A tremendous killing intent and the smell of blood filled the air.
Nevertheless, they seemed unsatisfied and smacked their lips as they looked at Sephia.
-Krrrreung (Trolls… drooling at an ogre)?
Sephia’s eyes twitched.
-Krrrreung.
The deformed trolls spread out and approached Sephia. They were several times stronger than ordinary trolls, and their regeneration was also much faster, but….
Still-
-Kuaaaang (You’re all dead)!
Sephia’s Ogre Fear was emitted.
The mountains echoed with his fear. Birds fluttered and soared into the sky.
However, the deformed trolls didn’t seem to be much affected by Sephia’s fear.
Thump, thump, thump!
They bared their hideous teeth and charged at Sephia like fierce rhinoceroses.
Sephia blocked the charging deformed trolls with her shield.
It was a common round shield. But it was at least 10 times larger and thirty times heavier than the round shields used by humans.
It was a dedicated piece of defensive gear that Sephia had been nagging Bidet to make for 3 days.
It was a shield named -Ogre’s Fighting Spirit-.
It was on a different level from any other shield.
It had a sturdiness that would never break and even had the ability to repel some of the opponent’s power.
Kuuuuung!
The three deformed trolls that collided with the round shield did not understand why they had been bounced back dozens of meters by the tremendous repulsive force.
They looked at each other with bewildered expressions for a moment.
-Krrrreung (It’s too early to be surprised. You have to taste the ‘Ogre’s Fist’ too).
A hideous killing intent was flowing from the mace that Sephia had taken out.
