The Dawn Never Comes 2
Harpun barely escaped the vampire nobles’ attack.
If Wednesday had been determined to capture her, she wouldn’t have gotten away so easily.
She leaned against the wall, gasping for breath.
Harpun looked at the Blink item, now drained of all its magic. Another 50,000 gold down the drain.
Of course, without it, she would have already become a vampire’s meal, but she couldn’t help feeling the loss.
It might not mean much anymore, but if she wasn’t careful, this mission might end up being her first real failure.
“Where should I go now?”
She glanced outside the palace.
It was a complete mess. The vampire legion and the lycanthrope legion clashed head-on. The vampires, who had been pushed back in disarray at the beginning, regrouped and began to counterattack.
After all, this was Blood City, the vampires’ sacred ground.
Once the lines were reorganized, the one-sided slaughter ended, and a fierce battle unfolded.
In this situation, what meaning would there be in playing the recording on the magic stone?
Should I just throw it away?
No. Let’s hold onto it for now. I risked my life to find this evidence.
Thud-
Someone placed a hand on her shoulder.
Startled, Harpun swung her dagger.
“Hey, hey, you’re going to kill someone.”
Napalm said, dodging her dagger. She seemed surprised too.
“Sister?”
“Yeah, it’s me.”
“Where were you?”
“Up here. I came down after seeing you take off your invisibility cloak. What’s going on?”
“It’s not good at all.”
“Really?”
Harpun briefly explained what she had experienced. Napalm’s face twisted as she listened. Things were getting worse and worse.
It was as if-
Someone was digging a huge trap, trying to sweep everyone into it and kill them all with malicious intent.
“Did you get the recording?”
“Yeah.”
“Wednesday took Spielberg underground with her? Along with the nobles?”
“That’s right. I was discovered and had to run. I don’t know what happened after that.”
“Hmm.”
“What are you going to do, Sister?”
“Let’s go.”
“Where to?”
“To the underground where Wednesday and Spielberg went.”
“You want to invade that place?”
“I don’t know. But this feeling, isn’t it too ominous? I don’t know if we can stop the ritual, but we need to check what’s going on.”
“Do you think we can do it with our strength?”
“It’s not a matter of whether we can or not. It’s what we have to do. For our Lord.”
“Will the Lord be able to come?”
“He will come. Definitely.”
Napalm’s belief was firm.
“Okay, let’s go then. I’ll risk my life believing in you and the Lord, Sister.”
Harpun chuckled and replied.
However-
When they arrived underground, they thought that they might not be able to escape this place.
What they saw underground was-
A hell that made them want to vomit.
* * *
What Napalm and Harpun saw underground was truly a vision of hell.
Wednesday placed the Black Dragon’s blood on the altar, and Spielberg and all the vampires knelt and paid their respects below.
Wednesday released the 30 shields that surrounded the ‘Black Dragon’s Blood’ one by one.
The Black Dragon’s energy gradually began to intensify.
“Really… it’s a power that could destroy the world and still have power left over.”
Wednesday had no interest in the world or its destruction. She would die like this, and the world would soon be destroyed as well.
Soon, all the shields were released.
Kukukuku!
The Black Dragon’s blood in the small bottle soared to the ceiling.
The Black Dragon’s blood filled the ceiling. It hung upside down, sloshing.
Drip, drip, drip, drip-
Dark red blood fell on Spielberg and the nobles’ heads.
The magic emanating from the blood was so evil that Spielberg and the nobles trembled without saying a word.
Spielberg looked at Wednesday with fear-filled eyes.
“Will I really become a god?”
“You will become a god.”
“When?”
“Now.”
“It’s so scary. It’s a magic I can’t handle.”
“Accept it.”
“What?”
“That magic.”
“No way. I can’t control that.”
“Who said you should control it?”
“Didn’t you say you would give me the power of God?”
“I said I would give you the power of God. But I never said that you would be the subject.”
“What does that mean!”
“Live forever as a part of God. Unable to die, unable to live.”
Spielberg frowned at the sudden change in tone.
He still didn’t realize what was wrong. He just didn’t like his sister, who was just shrilly shouting.
“Kneel!”
Spielberg shouted.
“Kneel? Do you still think you’re the king?”
Wednesday scoffed. She didn’t call Spielberg ‘Brother’ or ‘Your Majesty.’ Her eyes were as dry as if she were looking at a passing stone.
“What is it? What’s your real intention?”
“I miss my children.”
“What children? Ah, the children who received the lycanthrope’s seed? Didn’t you say you had forgotten about them!”
“You are not qualified to be a parent. You have never given birth to a child, so you don’t even know what a parent is. What transcends the nation! Honor! And even oneself is a parent! You! You! You took everything from me!”
“Crazy bitch! The lycanthrope’s seed! You still keep that in your heart!”
“They are my children! My only children in the world. Those poor children… you burned them to death.”
“I couldn’t help it. It was the most efficient way to appease the angry crowds. You know that too!”
“What do I know! You bastard! I wanted to kill your children in front of you in the same way. I wanted to tear their necks in front of you. But since you don’t have any children, I decided to skip that. Instead, I’ll crush your lifelong dream right in front of you.”
“What?”
“Wander in the afterlife forever. All of you!”
Wednesday swallowed the pill she had received from the Archbishop.
Her eyes flashed. Then, the Black Dragon’s blood sloshing on the ceiling was sucked into her seven orifices.
“Kaaaaaak!”
The unimaginable evil magic instantly engulfed Wednesday’s entire body. Her skin tore and turned into black jelly.
The black jelly began to grow.
Swaaaaaaak!
Hundreds of black tendrils stretched out from the black jelly. They covered Spielberg and the nobles. The black tendrils wrapped around them and pulled them into the main body.
“W-what is this?”
“Dark Storm!”
“Dark Fire!”
The nobles were not just people who played around and ate. They were among the strongest in the vampire kingdom of Elsa. But even they couldn’t escape the black tendrils.
The severed black tendrils immediately regenerated and dug into the vampires’ bodies.
“Ughaaaaak!”
The huge underground cavern was filled with screams.
The dragged vampire nobles were absorbed by the black jelly. Their faces popped out from the side of the black jelly.
Bulge, bulge. The noble vampires trapped in the black jelly screamed incessantly as if in pain.
Spielberg was among them.
Each time they screamed in pain, the evil magic of the black jelly grew stronger.
-Kuoaaaaaa!
The black jelly’s fear, which had sprung from somewhere, echoed loudly. It stretched out in all directions.
The kingdom was engulfed in an unknown fear and dread.
* * *
Shudder, shudder.
Napalm and Harpun, who had witnessed everything that had happened from the ceiling, couldn’t even swallow properly.
Is this real?
Is something like this even possible?
“L-let’s run away.”
Napalm said, grabbing Harpun’s hand.
Kukukukukukukung!
The black tendrils pierced through the ceiling where they were and tried to go out to the surface. There seemed to be at least hundreds, if not thousands.
“Run away!”
Napalm and Harpun threw themselves forward without looking back-
The black tendrils closely followed them.
Kukukukuku-
Napalm and Harpun were out of breath. They ran through the complex maze-like corridors with all their might. They were running so fast that they collided head-on with the armor that was set up as decoration while turning a corner.
“Ughaaaak! Sister!”
Startled, Harpun called out to Napalm. Napalm, who was running a little ahead, immediately turned around and swung her sword.
The black tendril was cut off with a clang.
The defense was terrible.
However…
That unbelievable regeneration was the problem.
A tentacle with teeth popped out from the severed area. Viscous mucus dripped down.
Harpun took out a scroll containing the ‘Explosion’ magic from her pocket and tore it.
Kwakwang!
With the sound, the black tendrils that were approaching them exploded. Dozens of black tendrils writhed on the cold stone floor like starving octopus legs, and then began to regenerate again.
They had only bought a few seconds.
“Run outside!”
They barely escaped the underground stairs.
The moonlight shone into the palace. Loud screams were heard endlessly.
It was better than silence, but…
Kukukukukukung!
The black tendrils were terribly persistent. They burst out through the floor. The building was smashed, the walls cracked, and the floor collapsed, but… they were only relentlessly targeting Napalm and Harpun.
Without even catching their breath, Napalm and Harpun had no choice but to run.
Chiririk, chiririk, chirik chirik.
The black tendrils made a bizarre sound as they followed right behind them.
Harpun looked at Napalm with a pitiful look.
“I guess this is it.”
“Don’t give up!”
Napalm shouted.
“This.”
Harpun took out the recorded magic stone from her pocket.
“Keep this.”
“Don’t say ridiculous things. You keep it.”
“Keep it. Hurry.”
“I told you not to talk nonsense.”
“I think I’m very tired. My running speed is getting slower and slower.”
“Really? Then you run away instead. I’ll buy you some time.”
Napalm stopped running. As her speed decreased, the black tendrils attacked her.
“At least I won’t die easily!”
As Napalm quickly swung her sword, mana blades stretched out in succession. The black tendrils hit by the mana blades were cut off.
But they regenerate again.
“Sister!”
Startled, Harpun called out to Napalm.
“Don’t stop! Don’t stop running! If you stop and get caught by that thing, then I’ll really die a dog’s death.”
Harpun didn’t stop running as Napalm said. She couldn’t stop. She ran while crying.
A black shadow passed by her side.
“Huh?”
The black shadow instantly arrived next to Napalm, who had lost her combat ability after her ankles and wrists were grabbed by the black tendrils.
“What are you doing? Here?”
It was Draiszer.
He stared at Napalm with a blank look. It was obviously a critical situation. If he blinked even once, he would end up like the vampire nobles.
But Draiszer’s eyes were like this.
‘What are you doing playing with these weird-looking things?’
It was absurd.
“Does it look like I’m playing right now? I’m about to die!”
“Really?”
“It’s not ‘really’… Heok!”
Napalm was so surprised that she almost fell over.
The black tendrils that had been filling her vision were slowly retreating. The black tendrils that had been holding her also released their grip and retreated.
Soon, they reorganized their ranks.
It seemed that they recognized Draiszer as a strong enemy.
“Things that look like ink squid…”
Draiszer smirked.
“They’re not ordinary demonic beasts. I’ve never seen anything like this before. They don’t die even if you kill them… Humans can’t stop them. Let’s run away quickly.”
Napalm shouted.
“Really?”
Draiszer replied nonchalantly.
“So you step back.”
“Didn’t you hear? You need at least one magic squad of scale [a large, well-equipped team of mages]. Otherwise, you can’t stop that monster.”
“I know, so step back.”
Napalm didn’t understand what Draiszer was saying.
“I might be as strong as that magic squad.”
“What?”
“No, I made a mistake. I’m stronger than those guys.”
Draiszer slung Tyrant’s Fang [his signature weapon] over his shoulder and walked towards the black tendrils.
As he released his magic power, dark magic power began to rise explosively. Tyrant’s Fang and Tyrant’s Heart [magical artifacts] activated simultaneously.
Red light flowed from Draiszer’s entire body.
Draiszer grinned, revealing his teeth.
“Let’s see how strong you are. Shall we play a little?”
