Magic is Learned for Nothing – Episode 226 (226/502)
# 226
The Legend of the Black Dragon 2
Legion was beyond annoyed.
It wasn’t even anger. Just simple annoyance, bordering on hysteria.
“Damn Dark Slime. You’ve screwed up my life.”
Becoming a Dark Lord! The name sounds cool, like a job with substance, right? Maybe not as good as a Demon King, but it seemed pretty awesome…
Okay, I admit, I gained incredible magic power and authority.
But!
“No matter what, this isn’t right, you son of a bitch!”
Why do I have to be black?
What? Everything with ‘Dark’ in the name is supposed to be black?
Dark Elves are black but attractive, aren’t they? Dark Trolls have a mysterious, transparently black skin, right? And how healthy does the black skin of a Dark Ogre look?
Are you kidding me?
So, it makes sense that a Dark Lord has to have black skin?
No way!
I don’t want to be pitch black!
Please, please turn my skin back to its original color.
-Reversing a completed class change is impossible.
Mark chimed in.
Noooo, please! I haven’t even kissed a girl yet!
-Sorry, looks like your luck ends here. This even altered your genes… Your descendants will probably be born black too. Your descendants who sent me might regret it.
The AI even sounds sad.
I could feel Mark sniffling as he looked at the dark sky. But it’s still impossible.
Aaaargh!
Damn it. Damn my life!
If time travel were possible, I’d go back to before I met Mark. I’d rather just get dementia and die early.
Is this how I was meant to live after surviving so desperately?
What’s the point of being strong? Why do I have to live as a black man?
“Give me back my skin!”
Legion’s iron sword swung like lightning. The tentacles struck by his iron sword shattered without withstanding a single blow.
Gooooooo-
Powerful magic surged from Legion’s entire body. It was a unique magic that no one else had ever seen.
The pure magic he originally possessed mixed with the dark magic from the Black Dragon’s left ventricle, transforming into a gray, shimmering magic.
I don’t know how great that is, but I didn’t feel like caring about it.
“I can’t even eat with other people now.”
Now I can’t even take off my face helmet when I eat. Who am I supposed to show this black skin to?
Is that a racist remark?
Shut up!
Just give me back my skin!
Wriggle, wriggle-
Surprisingly, the tentacles slowly retreated and began to flee. Legion shouted, “Give me back my skin!” and chased after the tentacles.
The tentacles, which had been so terrifying, seemed frightened.
Some tentacles that hadn’t regained their senses charged, only to be turned into sliced raw squid on the floor.
“Give me back my skin!”
Legion ran, half-crazed, to where the Dark Slime was.
The remaining Leadcorp and Solidarity members collapsed to the ground.
It felt like a dream. What’s going on? Are we all dreaming together?
Legion is strong.
I admit it. There’s no denying that. But this was too much. He was so easily taking down the Dark Slime’s tentacles, which they couldn’t even scratch.
Was he always this strong?
He seems much stronger than the Legion they knew.
Lich Mamon and Lucas walked slowly towards them, with their hands behind their backs. Their faces were badly bruised. They looked like they had been beaten severely.
But their expressions were bright.
Leadcorp was startled to see Lich Mamon and took a fighting stance.
Why is a Lich here?
If there’s a race with worse relations with Vampires, it’s Liches [undead spellcasters]. Three times worse than Lycanthropes [werewolves or shapeshifters]. And now, a Lich suddenly appeared.
“Stop, Leadcorp. He is not someone you can handle.”
Lucas waved his hand, stopping them.
“L-Lord Lucas?”
“You know me?”
“Of course, I know you. How could I not know the Third Prince of the kingdom?”
Leadcorp bowed deeply.
“I heard you went on a long journey.”
“I arrived today. I never expected to find such a mess.”
“Ah, this is fortunate. If Lord Lucas, the pinnacle of red magic, joins us, we can surely defeat that monster.”
“I won’t have to step in.”
“What? What do you mean by that?”
“Didn’t you just see? Legion, my brother.”
“Legion, your brother?”
Leadcorp tilted his head. Since when did the Third Prince of the kingdom start calling Legion ‘brother’?
“It’s a long story. Anyway, now that my brother has stepped in, this will be resolved.”
“Do you think Lord Legion can defeat the Dark Slime?”
“Of course.”
“Lord Legion is certainly strong. But the Dark Slime is a monster of unprecedented power. I dare say it’s not something an individual can defeat.”
“Don’t worry.”
“B-But.”
“Hey! Just watch. I feel so proud that I played such a great role.”
Lucas was full of self-praise.
“I saved my brother from the brink of death with CPR. Getting that first aid certificate in the human world really paid off. He came back from the dead and then became a Dark Lord.”
Lucas was greatly mistaken.
He still didn’t know why Legion had beaten him so badly. Thanks to him, Legion became black.
Becoming a Dark Lord was a separate issue.
“Oh, let me introduce you. This is Lich Mamon. My senior.”
Leadcorp’s head began to ache.
“A Lich… is your senior?”
“Yes, a wonderful Lich. There will never be another Lich with such a great Lich-ness.”
His head throbbed. Leadcorp rubbed his temples with his thumb.
“Let’s go, Senior.”
“Let’s, Junior.”
Lich Mamon and Lucas leisurely began to walk after Legion.
Perhaps because of the immense pressure they exuded, no Lycanthropes dared to approach.
* * *
“Haa, haa.”
Dreyja and Allkill lay on the ground, gasping for breath.
The armor they were wearing was wrecked. Cracked and broken. Its original stats were reduced to less than 30 percent.
It wouldn’t be easy to block another attack and counterattack.
If they hadn’t used their skills together, they might already be dead.
The only good thing was that the Dark Slime had also taken damage, but the problem was that it was just damage to him, while they were on the verge of death.
“Are you alive?”
Allkill asked.
“For now…”
“What the hell is that monster?”
“I don’t know either.”
“Is there a way to catch it? If there is, I’ll help.”
“No.”
Dreyja shook his head.
“No? Then should we run? Ah, that won’t be easy either.”
Allkill looked around while lying down.
Hundreds of giant tentacles had already blocked their retreat. They surrounded them as if encircling them. It wasn’t just their combat power that had evolved.
Their intelligence seemed to be increasing rapidly as well.
“But…”
Dreyja knelt on one knee and stood up.
“It’s not that there’s no way to beat him. It’s not that we’re going to die.”
“What are you talking about?”
Allkill tilted his head, not understanding.
“If we can’t win, we just have to endure.”
“Endure?”
“Until he comes.”
“Who are you talking about?”
“My master.”
“Ah, are you talking about your master, the 8-star master?”
“Huh? What 8-star master?”
“Huh? Isn’t that right?”
“No.”
“Then?”
“Probably… weaker than me?”
“Weaker? Well, humans don’t determine status by strength. But what are you going to do waiting for such a master?”
Dreyja stood up completely. Allkill also used his axe as a cane to support himself.
“I don’t know. But… I don’t think we’ll lose if my master comes.”
“You won’t lose?”
“Yeah.”
Dreyja closed his eyes and gathered his magic power.
“No matter how hard I try to remember, I can’t picture him losing.”
“Hmm, a man you trust so much. I’d like to see him.”
“Heh heh heh… You’ll regret it when you see him.”
“Regret?”
“Because he’s the craziest bastard in the world.”
“Heh, that’s interesting. Okay. Then shall we conserve our magic power and fight from now on? I don’t know how long we can last.”
Allkill also got up. He stood up holding an axe made from the bones of a Frost Giant, an ultra-strong monster from the extreme seas. Tremendous cold energy swirled from his axe.
“Okay, shall we give it a try?”
The two giants once again charged towards the Dark Slime.
But having used up almost all of their magic power, they couldn’t even get close to the Dark Slime. They were blocked by the tentacles and were out of breath just trying to hold on.
‘I was arrogant.’
Every time they brushed against its tentacles, their magic power dropped sharply. At this rate, they wouldn’t last long.
Through this battle, Dreyja realized that he still had a long way to go.
He was too arrogant after mastering 7-stars.
He met the Dark Slime, who was stronger than him, and Allkill, who was of similar skill, only in this place.
There were plenty of strong people. He needed more training.
If he could survive this time, he decided to train to fully awaken the power of the Dark General.
Still, there was hope.
I still have room to grow stronger. That pleased Dreyja.
“Why are you grinning so happily? You’re on the verge of death.”
“Ah. Sorry.”
“Did you think of something good?”
“A little.”
“Share it with me. If it’s a hopeful story.”
“Unfortunately, it’s not something that can be shared.”
“Hmph, then don’t grin in front of me. It looks like you’re trying to run away to save yourself.”
“That’s not true.”
Thud!
“Ugh!”
“Ugh.”
The tentacles struck them in succession. When more than ten giant tentacles struck, the remaining magic defense shattered like glass fragments and scattered into the air.
Dreyja and Allkill groaned softly at the same time.
They felt a tearing sensation in their core.
Knowing that they had broken through the mana defense, the tentacles attacked randomly.
Dreyja and Allkill barely managed to hold on, swinging their axes.
It was only a matter of time before their bodies were pierced. Or, the most miserable end would be for strong people like them to be caught by its tentacles and go straight into the Dark Slime’s belly.
They would rather bite their tongues and die.
“Ugh, this is really dangerous!”
Allkill retreated repeatedly.
At some point, he bumped into something. It was hard like a wall. No, it wasn’t a wall.
It kicked Allkill and Dreyja in the back.
“Ugh!”
He thought his back was breaking. Allkill and Dreyja grabbed their backs and tumbled to the floor.
They looked with angry eyes at the person who had kicked them in the back.
“Master?”
“That guy?”
There stood Legion, with a completely different aura. His eyes were more intense than usual.
“It’s your fault!”
Legion glared at Dreyja with bloodshot eyes. Dreyja flinched at the blazing gaze. Ah, he’s so scary.
“It’s because you didn’t catch this bastard quickly enough… that’s why this happened!”
Legion began to beat down the tentacles that were attacking Dreyja and Allkill.
“Give me back my skin!”
There was no technique or anything.
He just beat them relentlessly. Allkill trembled without realizing how brutal it looked.
“He seems even crazier than you said.”
Dreyja nodded.
I agree.
He seems to have gone even crazier in the meantime.
