Raiding the Prison 1
Another contract was drawn up.
Legion earns 90% of the commission for everything, while Mibeak, the 5th Circle magician who assisted him, gets 10%. Mibeak must not express any dissatisfaction with this arrangement. If he has any complaints, he can formally raise an objection in the court belonging to Legion’s territory.
Mibeak almost threw the contract away.
But he sensed something and stopped.
He instinctively felt two intermediate curse spirits attached to his neck.
He couldn’t see them, but he knew.
‘Some strange things are attached to me.’ It was something that could drag him to hell without anyone knowing.
Still!
It was unfair.
Not even a royal court, but Legion’s territory? Unless the judge was crazy, there was no way he would side with him.
But what could he do?
“Why? Are you backing out?”
“Ah, no.”
“Stop making that wronged expression. This is a very favorable contract for you. Don’t think of it as just 10%. Think about the money you’ll grab.”
What’s with him?
Doesn’t he think about the risks?
Mibeak was dumbfounded. He didn’t know where that confidence came from.
What if they got caught stealing the Public King’s slush fund?
It wouldn’t just end with death. The Count was a high-ranking noble, but not on par with the Public King. If the Public King used his full power, he could easily take the Count’s head, no matter how powerful he was.
If that was the Count, what about him?
He wouldn’t even get a public trial and would be buried alive in some rural cemetery.
“Let’s think positively.”
Legion seemed to be in a good mood and massaged Mibeak’s shoulder.
He was skinny, but the energy from his fingers was incredible. He only lightly massaged his shoulder with his thumb, but an enormous energy rushed in.
Mibeak almost screamed and collapsed to the floor.
“You haven’t been training at all. Look how stiff your shoulders are. Here, let me loosen them up. Let’s work well together, brother!”
My ass! Brother, my foot!
Ugh! It hurts! It hurts! Stop it, you bastard!
“I think Mibeak just called the boss a ‘saekki’ [a Korean slang term, roughly equivalent to ‘jerk’ or ‘son of a bitch’].”
Shuttle snitched.
Mibeak glared at Shuttle. That bastard was screwing him over without batting an eye.
Shuttle looked at Mibeak with a triumphant look for the first time in a long time.
So what?
Shuttle always looked up to others because he lacked confidence. It wasn’t because of his short height. It was because of his personality, which had developed since he was young. Of course, his timid nature also played a part.
After signing a contract as an employee of Count Legion, that personality became even more pronounced.
There were too many impressive figures around him.
A 6th Circle necromancer? What good was that?
The boss, Dreiser, Mammon, Sepia, the ogre corps, Force who returned as a single warrior, his wife Jonas, the orc knight squad, and the exclusive servants who used both magic and aura.
He couldn’t beat any of them properly.
It was a scary territory full of hidden powerhouses.
He even lost to a regular soldier. There was a team leader-level soldier named Abdul Jabbar who had recently suffered a major injury and barely woken up.
‘I might be able to beat him since he’s just a soldier, right?’
The summoned skeleton soldiers dissuaded him.
-Are you crazy? He’s a team leader. A team leader. He’s a soldier, but he spams aura [a type of energy or life force]. Do you see that? Wow! The aura flies dozens of meters. Ugh! The rock is split in half. That’s the skill of a team leader who hasn’t even recovered from his injury yet!
“I, I’m a 6th Circle necromancer. They don’t even seem to be 5-star.”
-You might be able to easily handle a 5-star knight or warrior in front of the master. But you don’t use summoning or curses well, and you’re not strong in close combat like a warlock. Just stay put and don’t cause trouble.
Even the summoned skeleton soldiers were like that.
Naturally, Shuttle had no choice but to become even more discouraged.
But…
Shuttle felt instinctively that Mibeak was in the same boat as him.
And he knew that he was a little better than that bastard.
Mibeak seemed to feel it too. He looked at Shuttle and lowered his eyes for a moment.
‘Damn it, it feels like my life is going backward.’
That’s how Legion and his group ended up at the Grand Prix stadium.
“So, the Public King’s slush fund is under this massive stadium?”
Legion said, watching the ten carriages racing at tremendous speed in front of him.
“Lower your voice. There are a lot of ‘Samcheong Education Corps’ guys around [a South Korean re-education program during the 1980s, known for its harsh methods]. They’re trying to weed out any potentially harmful forces in advance. My careless words became a seed.”
“It’s okay. I’ve put up a mute barrier.”
“Huh?”
Mibeak looked around.
He didn’t feel any barrier. He waved his hand around, but nothing. There was nothing blocking his hand. But it wasn’t like the sound was blocked either.
But there was magic spread around?
“Moving around like that makes you look even more suspicious. Act natural. Naturally. People can’t hear our voices. Even if they do, they’ll hear a different recorded sound.”
“Is that possible?”
“Yeah.”
“What Circle magic is that? To be able to mix sounds… I’ve never encountered magic like that before.”
“I can’t do plastic surgery magic either, so don’t worry about it. It’s not that difficult of magic. If you want to learn it, come to the territory after this is over. I’ll teach you.”
“Ah, I understand.”
He’s not even my teacher, but he’s offering to teach me magic?
Is he generous?
Well, Legion’s personality, as he’s observed so far, is different from ordinary people. Things that others want to keep secret are nothing to him.
He was a much bigger man than he thought.
Was that the aspect that Baserabap-nim saw in this man?
Mibeak didn’t know. That this man’s real job was a Dark Lord. In the past, he was the vanguard of the continental invasion, an absolute evil.
Nevertheless, no one had discovered the aura of absolute evil from Legion.
“I’ll ask again. The Public King’s slush fund is here, right?”
“That’s right. The Public King’s slush fund is buried under this stadium.”
“If it were gold, it would be more than 100 carriages worth.”
“If it’s 100 million gold, you’d need 1,000 carriages.”
“I see why the Public King is so confident. With so much military funding, he doesn’t need to be intimidated anywhere.”
Legion smiled, putting a candy he bought at the stadium entrance in his mouth.
“Recently, a 100 gold note came out. Unlike checks, it can’t be traced.”
“Ah, its weight is only about 1/100th compared to gold. Do you know what I mean?”
“So, it’s enough for 10 to 100 carriages worth?”
“Yes.”
That’s still a lot. I’ll have to borrow the subspace where Mammon lives. He’s been complaining that it’s too small. I’ll tell him to move out for now and cram it full of money. I lost more than 50,000 gold because of that guy, so he won’t get upset if I tell him to take his luggage out of the subspace for a few days, right?
No. Mammon was upset.
He actually had to move his numerous treasures, which were worth a fortune, to a secluded place in Legion’s mansion. He couldn’t do it alone, so Shuttle’s skeleton soldiers were mobilized in large numbers.
The subspace has no humidity, so mold doesn’t grow.
That’s why the treasures in the subspace are preserved in the same condition as when they were discovered.
But the moment they come out and meet oxygen, corrosion begins.
That was the sad thing about Mammon.
But since he had committed a crime, he couldn’t grab the homeowner by the collar and fight just because he was told to take out his luggage.
“But getting in and taking out the cash is not easy. Frankly, even a 9th Circle magician can’t do it.”
“Why?”
“Originally, this place is a city built on top of an ancient dungeon. In other words, this underneath is an ancient dungeon. The defense is overwhelming! It perfectly recreates the magic of that time. Even an army can’t do it. Even if you manage to break in, there’s a problem. The huge dungeon will collapse all at once. Can a 9th Circle magician withstand hundreds of thousands of tons of soil? Even if they can, can they get out? It’s impossible.”
“Hmm, that’s a problem.”
Besides that, it’s a really well-defended place.
Numerous defensive magic spells and well-trained knights and soldiers were thoroughly guarding it.
You can’t break through with simple fighting magic.
Even if you break in, you can’t steal all that money and get out.
There’s only one way!
You have to go in and steal the money without anyone knowing.
“How were you planning to steal things from that place? By trusting your colleagues?”
“We can’t do it.”
“Then?”
“I was going to recruit a legendary master thief.”
“A legendary master thief?”
“Yes, he’s locked up in this prison.”
“A legendary master thief is locked up in prison?”
“Yes, do you know about Alcatraz Prison?”
Even people who aren’t interested in worldly affairs knew about Alcatraz Prison, which had been around for thousands of years.
Originally, it was a place where the Titan race was imprisoned.
But now, it was a place where political prisoners and heinous criminals were locked up. It was famous as a place where you could enter but never come out again.
It was said that even a Grand Master couldn’t escape if they were trapped there. In fact, there hasn’t been a 7-star master who has been trapped there yet, so it’s a marketing ploy.
Anyway, there was only one way to get out of there.
To finish your sentence.
“You’re going to recruit a thief locked up in that place?”
Legion asked, dumbfounded.
“Yes.”
“How?”
“I have to break him out of prison.”
“……”
Legion thought it wouldn’t work. Let’s just beat this bastard up first. So, he clenched his fist and was about to punch him in the face when Mibeak shouted.
“An insider! I seduced an insider!”
Legion smirked. There must have been plenty of people who had tried that before.
“I promised to give him a million gold.”
“……”
“How much?”
“A million gold. As a condition for turning a blind eye.”
Is he not a rookie, but crazy?
A million gold? I’ve heard a million, ten million, a hundred million so much that I don’t even get a sense of it anymore.
How much money is a million gold?
In the old barony… it’s enough money to feed them for about 50 years.
He couldn’t tell whether Mibeak, who was offering that much money, was amazing or crazy.
What if he couldn’t get the money?
If the prison guard reported it, they would all face death.
Oh, are they all already dead?
Who is the thief he’s trying to recruit with that huge amount of money? I must have heard of him at least once.
If he’s a talented person, I want to recruit him even if it costs a fortune. Let’s trick him into working for 50 gold a month. Yeah, that sounds good. If he’s really a good guy, I have to write a contract before I take him out.
The world is wide-
There are many minerals I want to have.
“Who is that thief?”
“They don’t mean one person. It’s a team.”
“A team?”
“Yes.”
“How many people?”
“Six people.”
“A good number.”
“But why are those thieves locked up in prison?”
“They touched the Public King’s slush fund. They failed once.”
“What? You’re bringing back failures again?”
“Yes, they are the only people who have reached the center. They also swept up a lot of money. But they were caught by a hair’s breadth while trying to escape. There are no others who know the inside as well as they do.”
“Hmm, the Public King kept them alive?”
“He said he kept them alive because he regretted their skills. He’s still constantly offering them jobs under him.”
“Well, if they’re that skilled, he might. So, who are they?”
“They’re not as famous as you might think. I only found out about them by chance while digging up information about this place.”
“So, who are they?”
“Mizsett… you probably haven’t heard of her. She’s a pretty fat woman, and she’s the matriarch. She takes care of five dwarves, ah, for convenience, they’re dwarves. They’re big guys. They’re dwarves with a bit of a low intelligence, but their skills are amazing. I don’t understand how they learned such force with that brain.”
Legion couldn’t answer.
Did I hear wrong?
Why is Mizsett’s name coming up here?
Come to think of it, it’s been quite a while since I’ve seen Mizsett and her gang.
Hey, surely this is a bit strange.
No matter how crazy the writer is, isn’t the story going too far?
If this goes well, it might turn into ‘Prison Break’ or ‘The Usual Suspects’.
I hope the cripple isn’t the culprit though.
