The air turned frigid.
‘Bator?’
Some of the elders recognized Bator, while others didn’t. Among those who did, some knew the full extent of his power, while others had only a vague familiarity from seeing him around the General Assembly.
But none of that mattered now.
The Bator they had heard of from afar, the Bator of legends, was now standing before them. All their previous knowledge was rendered useless. The Bator in front of them exuded such an overwhelming presence that his true nature was undeniable.
Lee Sung-taek stared at Bator, his eyes trembling.
Bator.
The most striking thing he had heard about him was a single phrase:
A body inhabited by a god.
When Lee Sung-taek had first heard those words, he had scoffed at the childish description.
But now, Lee Sung-taek could no longer laugh. He had to admit it. Those words were the most accurate way to describe Bator.
‘How can a body like that exist?’
Even through his clothes, the pulsating power was palpable. Just how much immense strength was hidden within that body?
But that wasn’t the immediate concern.
‘Why is Bator here?’
It wasn’t unusual for Bator to be in South Korea. It was common knowledge that Kang Jin-ho had somehow brought Bator here.
So, Bator being in the vicinity wasn’t strange. The problem was that Bator was right here, and he had come to them so openly.
Lee Sung-taek’s heart pounded in his chest. No matter how he looked at it, Bator’s intentions didn’t seem friendly. Surely, Bator wouldn’t have come to greet them out of boredom.
‘Something’s wrong.’
Even a child would realize that something was amiss at this moment.
“Y-you, you are… who are you?”
Unfortunately, some present lacked even the awareness of a child.
Song Young-moo was visibly terrified. It was understandable. Anyone who met Bator face-to-face would react similarly. Anyone who had experienced the overwhelming presence of Bator’s body wouldn’t call Song Young-moo a coward.
The problem wasn’t his cowardice, but his inability to let go of his pride even while terrified. If he had just kept his mouth shut, the situation would have been much better.
Bator stared at Song Young-moo and mumbled something. Then, Jang Da-jing, standing next to Bator, spoke instead.
“He says, are all the elders of the General Assembly just trash like this?”
“What did you say?”
“Y-you bastard?”
Jang Da-jing waved his hand.
“Ah, ah.”
Jang Da-jing, having drawn everyone’s attention, spoke with a mocking tone.
“I am merely a translator. So, please don’t threaten me based on the words I speak. My words only represent the will of Bator-nim.”
Then, Jang Da-jing muttered quietly, ‘Of course, I think the same way.’
“You…”
Just as one of the elders was about to speak, Bator lightly flicked his finger.
Lightly, that is, in appearance. But the impact was anything but light.
Thud!
It sounded like a leather bag full of water being struck by a large hammer.
From Bator’s hand?
No.
The sound echoed from the body of the elder who had been about to speak. The moment Bator flicked his finger, a loud sound rang out, and the elder was thrown backward, crashing into the wall.
“I’ll do the talking.”
No one there could understand Bator’s words. But no one dared to speak.
‘What the hell is going on?’
They had eyes. And they saw it. But they couldn’t comprehend it.
‘Is the difference really this great?’
Lee Sung-taek knew who Bator was. The other elders didn’t seem to, but at least the elders of the General Assembly should have been aware of the information about the famous martial artists of neighboring countries.
Bator was a well-known powerhouse even in the Central Plains [a region in China often associated with martial arts].
But… he never imagined the difference would be this vast. He couldn’t believe what he was seeing, even with his own eyes.
An elder. A freaking elder, no less. Even though the position of elder in the General Assembly wasn’t based on martial prowess but on loyalty to Lee Joong-geol, Lee Joong-geol wouldn’t use someone without basic martial ability as his errand boy.
Yet, such an elder was sent flying with a single blow. And that was just from a finger flick.
Lee Sung-taek was in a panic. An absolute power that could not be resisted had descended before him.
If this guy was this strong, just how strong was Kang Jin-ho? Perhaps they had started something impossible from the beginning? And now, all that was left was to pay the price. As he realized this, all the strength drained from his body.
“Hmm.”
Bator took a deep breath and looked around. After confirming that the elders and directors couldn’t meet his gaze, Bator’s face twisted.
“You want me to deal with trash like this? Lee Hyun-soo, that guy doesn’t even know how to use his own cards.”
Some of the elders looked at Jang Da-jing with questioning eyes.
“Ah… well, he’s just expressing his dissatisfaction. It’s probably better if you don’t know the details. Even though you’re insignificant, you’re still elders. I’ll at least show you some respect.”
A sense of humiliation appeared on the elders’ faces.
“Those damn foreigners!”
That was the signal.
“Are those bastards threatening us right now?”
“How dare they on Korean soil!”
It wasn’t hard to start, and it wasn’t hard to follow. Curses and shouts erupted from everywhere.
‘They sound like dogs barking.’
It wasn’t meant to be derogatory. It was meant literally. How would a dog act when it encountered a beast? The moment it sensed the difference in power, it would run away without looking back.
But what if it couldn’t run away? It would bark. It didn’t have the courage to attack, but it desperately barked as if to say, ‘I’m not someone you can mess with, so please just back off.’
The elders were exactly like that right now. They didn’t have the courage to attack, but they were raising their voices as if they weren’t afraid. Watching their pathetic display, Lee Sung-taek quietly clenched his fist.
‘It’s already over anyway.’
Something was strange from the beginning. If the Chairman had set up this meeting, he wouldn’t have failed to come here. At the very least, Director Jo, who was currently acting as his right-hand man, would have been here.
But the fact that neither Director Jo nor the Chairman had come meant that this meeting had been set up by someone else. It was a mystery how such a thing could have happened… but the situation was all too clear.
And Bator had definitely come here to clean up this mess.
‘Were we being played from the start?’
Just as Lee Sung-taek was beginning to fall into deep despair, Bator quietly opened his mouth.
“Jang Da-jing, relay my words.”
“Yes, Bator-nim.”
“I respect warriors.”
Jang Da-jing immediately began to translate Bator’s words.
“But I don’t see any warriors here. You all have rotten eyes. You are not warriors. You are just parasites who call yourselves warriors and eat away at the organization. You may have been warriors once. But not anymore.”
Bator spat out the words.
“I was told to subdue those who could be subdued, but now that I see it, I don’t think I need to listen to that. There’s no point in keeping rotten things alive, they’ll just waste food. So…”
Bator clenched his fist.
“Prove it, that you are not trash. I will spare the warriors. But those who cannot prove that they are warriors will die.”
An extremely arrogant declaration. If someone else had said these words in front of them, Lee Sung-taek would have scoffed. Who would dare say such things to them in Korea?
Jang Da-jing shrugged his shoulders after finishing the translation.
“Well then, good luck, everyone in Korea.”
The elders’ faces turned sour.
‘That damn foreigner dares!’
A guy who wouldn’t have dared to even raise his head in front of them if Bator wasn’t backing him up was now mocking them.
“Y-you! How dare you, do you know where you are?!”
At that moment, Bator moved.
“It seems you don’t understand.”
He had only taken one step forward. But for those on the receiving end, it wasn’t just a simple step. Just by getting a little closer, the pressure increased several times over. Those who had retreated in a fluster, not even realizing how pathetic they looked, flushed with humiliation.
But that was also meaningless.
“Then I’ll make you understand.”
Splat!
With the sound of a ripe watermelon bursting, the head of the elder at the very front was literally crushed. Not even a scream came out.
The body of the elder whose head had disappeared slumped down, falling to the floor.
Thud.
Blood gushed from his neck like a fountain, staining the well-set table red.
“Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!”
The screams came not from the elders, but from the women who had been serving the drinks. Unlike the elders, who were overwhelmed by Bator’s power and couldn’t even scream, the ordinary women didn’t feel Bator’s power.
So, they could react.
“Get out of here! Right now!”
Jang Da-jing shouted, and the tear-soaked women crawled out. Jang Da-jing personally helped those who couldn’t move because their legs had given out.
Clack.
The door closed.
Jang Da-jing turned his head as if everything was ready, and Bator smiled.
“Well, now the interlopers are gone.”
No translation was needed. His tone and expression alone were enough to understand what he was saying.
“I’ll say it again. I hope you understand this well.”
Bator spoke in a heavy tone. The voice, passing through Jang Da-jing’s slightly thin translation, gave off a subtle feeling.
“Prove that you are warriors. I will spare those who are useful. If you are worth recycling, I will give you the honor of living like dogs for my master.”
They weren’t even angry anymore. They were dominated by fear. They had to prove it. If they didn’t prove it, they would die.
Humans dominated by fear tend to have their brains freeze. They began to look for a way to resolve their fear. What did they have to do to survive?
The conclusion came quickly.
“Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!”
With a loud shout, the elders rushed at Bator all at once.
Bator looked at the elders rushing towards him with bloodshot eyes and gave a satisfied smile.
“A dog can’t become a wolf just by barking, but a fierce dog is more fun to deal with than a pet dog.”
An immense fighting spirit began to emanate from Bator’s entire body.
The Fiend (퐤鬼) [a term often used to describe a powerful and terrifying being], it was the moment when Bator revealed his fangs.
