This is the sixth Great Disaster.
People felt more despair than ever before. They said it was lucky for everyone that the ‘Red Point’ was in the United States.
If the ‘Red Point’ had been in another country, that country wouldn’t have been able to handle it as well as the United States.
Because the United States was a global superpower, it had been able to withstand it so far. The monsters that appeared on the first day of ‘Red Time’ alone were enough to destroy two or three small countries.
People gave a thumbs-up.
They praised the United States.
Just when they thought the Great Disaster would end, something shocking happened on the last day of ‘Red Time’.
It happened in Washington D.C., the capital of the United States.
A new kind of monster appeared there.
A voice, cold as a tomb, echoed across the battlefield. “[Humans, die,]” it rasped.
Standing before them was a creature of nightmare. It was vaguely human-shaped, but where flesh should have been, there was only bone, barely covered in strips of rotting skin. A tattered black robe hung from its skeletal frame, flapping in a wind that seemed to rise from nowhere. One long, bony finger, tipped with a black nail like sharpened obsidian, pointed towards the sky.
Then, the sky ripped open. A blinding white light flashed, followed by a deafening CRACK that shook the very ground. Bolts of lightning, thick as tree trunks, slammed down from the heavens. Soldiers screamed as they were thrown backwards like toys, their armor smoking, their bodies lifeless before they even hit the ground. This was no ordinary monster. Fear, cold and sharp, pierced through the soldiers. This was something far worse. This was death itself given form.
At first, they weren’t too worried.
The United States had already blocked S-rank monsters’ attacks several times. They thought they would be able to block this attack too, since the defense forces were concentrated in the capital.
However, the unknown entity created a completely different situation.
The entity, pouring out magic, revealed a ferocious aura as it looked at the humans running towards it.
“[I can smell the scent of death. Revival.]”
Whoosh!
Magic spread out.
The ground shook, and the dead began to crawl up from hell.
Kraa!
Grrrr.
Hundreds? Thousands?
No.
It was hundreds of thousands.
The monsters who had been sleeping in this place gained life. The more shocking problem was that some of them were S-rank monsters.
The American soldiers were blocked by the monsters.
Far from being able to deal with the unknown entity, they were struggling just to deal with the dead. The S-rank dead revealed their powerful strength from their previous lives and swept away the soldiers.
After that, magic was everywhere.
Just like humans dividing roles and attacking, the unknown entity constantly poured out magic.
“[Die!]”
Wham!
Wham wham wham!
It was a great disaster.
The United States was put on emergency alert.
The U.S. government decided the unknown entity was a boss monster. They summoned the U.S. military power to the capital to prevent the sixth Great Disaster.
It was truly an all-out war.
The boss monster was a sign that the Great Disaster was ending. The United States risked everything in this battle because they could only regain peace by defeating the boss monster.
The Commander-in-Chief of the United States, Robert, commanded the soldiers on the battlefield.
“[Risk your lives! Never back down! If we defeat the boss monster, peace will return to the United States!]”
Robert was an S-rank hunter.
He raised his sword and used his magic to give the soldiers infinite power. The United States valued his support abilities highly, so they made him Commander-in-Chief.
There was a good reason why they couldn’t back down. If they were defeated, the country of the United States would be destroyed. So even as their comrades died, the soldiers pushed forward.
And the soldiers who lost their lives reappeared as enemies because of the Revival.
It was an extremely bad situation.
The unknown entity was simply classified as S-rank, but it had an enormous presence that was unlike anything else.
The city collapsed.
Many people died.
While focused on the battle, Robert received shocking news.
“[A boss monster has appeared in LA!]”
“…A boss monster?!”
It was shocking.
The entity in front of him wasn’t the boss monster.
If the monster that appeared in LA was the real boss monster, it must have been more powerful than this ridiculous monster. Robert’s face turned pale.
He absolutely trusted the United States. Even when he heard that the United States had been set as a ‘Red Point,’ he believed that this country would never collapse.
But it was different now.
The unknown entity and the boss monster… This was truly the worst situation in 20 years.
A few days later, the U.S. government held an emergency meeting.
It was a meeting that had already been held dozens of times, but the attendees’ faces showed no hope at all.
The U.S. Secretary of Defense said, “As of 10 minutes ago, LA’s defense system has completely collapsed. Like the unknown entity that attacked the capital, the vampire-shaped monster that attacked LA is turning U.S. troops into its hosts and swallowing the entire LA in an instant. The Department of Defense believes that LA has less than 24 hours left. Now that the defense system has collapsed, the entire LA will fall into the vampire’s territory after 24 hours.”
“Oh, dear.”
“Ahem.”
Everyone looked worried.
The unknown entity and the vampire were the worst possible enemies for humans.
They couldn’t be defeated by numbers. Above all, the vampire, who was thought to be the boss monster, displayed tremendous power.
Two S-rank hunters who were protecting LA had their heads blown off by him.
Faced with overwhelming force, the U.S. government was sure that the vampire was the boss monster. The vampire spat out dark red blood and reattached the hunters’ heads to make them his servants.
From that moment on, those who had been strong talents of the United States slaughtered their fellow humans and stuck their teeth into their necks.
The capital and LA faced a crisis at the same time.
LA had no choice but to collapse because they had sent all their troops to protect the capital.
It was an imbalance of power.
However, they couldn’t withdraw their troops. If they spread their troops out, neither LA nor the capital would be safe. The U.S. government had to choose.
They decided to protect the capital first, but as the battle continued, LA eventually collapsed.
One of the leaders said, “…24 hours. If LA becomes a monster’s lair, the United States has no future. Is there any way to ask other countries for help?”
“We have already contacted them, but no country has enough resources to help the United States. As you know, the sixth Great Disaster has spread across the world. They say they will send troops if they solve their own problems, but that is not possible right now.”
“Is it really that bad, Sarah?” President Thompson asked, his voice low, almost a whisper. He rubbed his tired eyes, the weight of the city, of the entire nation, pressing down on him. “Are we truly out of options for Los Angeles?”
Secretary of Defense, Sarah Jenkins, sighed, the sound heavy in the large, silent conference room. Outside, the city lights of Washington D.C. twinkled, oblivious to the crisis unfolding within these walls. “We’ve looked at everything, Mr. President. Every plan, every idea… and nothing works. As it stands,” she paused, her voice barely audible, “there is no way to save it.”
The situation was dire, the absolute worst-case scenario they could have imagined. How had it come to this? The American leaders around the long mahogany table exchanged grim glances, a shared feeling of helplessness hanging in the air like a thick fog.
Just then, the U.S. Secretary of State, who had been watching the situation, spoke cautiously.
“Mr. President, what about asking for help from South Korea?”
The conference room fell silent.
The silence was because South Korea had been discussed a lot in recent meetings.
The President spoke.
“Secretary, South Korea broke international law. And yet, you think we should accept their help?”
U.S. intelligence agencies had reported on the events in South Korea.
The moves were so shocking that the United States planned to decide how to deal with South Korea as soon as the Great Disaster was over.
International law was clear.
They couldn’t just ignore someone who had broken it.
“Mr. President, I know this is sensitive,” the Secretary began carefully. “This Roman Dmitry… he formed a rebel group. They broke international law, executed President Kim Jung-tae, and changed the country’s name to the Korean Empire. Calling himself Emperor! Normally, we’d say this must be punished for world peace. But… look at how they handled the Great Disaster. Roman Dmitry defeated an S-rank monster in one hit. He solved all of South Korea’s problems in just three days. Three days! This man… he’s beyond anything we’ve seen. It’s like these monsters are telling us we need a new rank, even higher than S-rank. Roman Dmitry has incredible power.”
The Secretary of State’s voice was heavy with worry. He clearly didn’t want to suggest this.
“South Korea is the only country in the world right now that can help other nations. Well, if we don’t count countries like China that don’t like the United States. Mr. President, the choice we make now might make the ‘Korean Empire’ seem okay. Looking far ahead, it’s not a good idea, but if we just think about our own country’s safety, we have to do whatever it takes right now. The safety of the people in LA is what matters most, right? We have to find a way to save LA before it’s completely destroyed.”
It was a valid point, and it left them in silence. They knew he was right.
If Roman Dmitry solved the problems in LA, South Korea’s value would definitely go up a lot.
The President was silent for a long time, thinking hard. The room was still, everyone waiting anxiously for him to speak. Finally, he asked…
“What exactly is Roman Dmitry?”
“We haven’t figured him out yet. We think the name Dmitry is important for some reason, but we don’t know where he comes from or what his life was like.”
“The Maron Church will likely protest this. What do you think about that?”
The American Maron Church.
They were a group that studied the Great Disaster and the world’s largest organization with many followers around the world.
Their purpose was special.
The Maron Church had a Bible.
They wanted to create an environment for ‘Him’ in advance so that the god they worshiped could come to this world.
They believed that God’s arrival would solve all problems in the future. They were very concerned about South Korea’s actions.
The Maron Church actively wanted South Korea punished, saying that anyone who called themselves Emperor was taking away God’s authority.
But what if they got help from South Korea?
The Maron Church would be very angry.
Their voices were powerful and heard around the world. They couldn’t ignore them.
“Of course, it will be a problem. The Maron Church thinks the destruction of LA is a test. They believe that if God comes, all of humanity’s problems will be solved, so they care more about creating a new world to welcome God. That’s different from what the U.S. government needs to do. If we care about the safety of our people, we need to take the risk now.”
It was a true dilemma.
Even if they got help and saved LA, many problems would remain after the Great Disaster. Life wouldn’t be easy.
But there was no other way.
The President made a decision.
“The safety of our citizens is what matters most,” the President said, his voice firm. “Contact South Korea now. I will ask for their help myself.”
On the screen, the U.S. President appeared. He spoke directly, without wasting words.
“[Please, you have to help us. We are still allies, aren’t we? Whatever you want… war compensation, anything. We will pay you whatever it takes to fix the damage from this Great Disaster. I promise.]”
His voice was full of strange stress.
Even though they knew South Korea was now calling itself the Korean Empire, the U.S. President still called it South Korea.
They weren’t ready to accept the change yet.
By talking about the alliance and payment, they were trying to avoid the difficult issues and just make a deal.
Roman Dmitry spoke.
“I will accept the United States’ request.”
“[…Are you saying you will help us?]”
“Yes.”
The U.S. President was surprised.
He actually expected them to add several conditions to the blunt offer.
He thought they would mention the Korean Empire being legitimate, but Roman Dmitry didn’t even hesitate.
For Roman Dmitry, it was simple. He had already decided to help as soon as he heard the news from the United States.
“We have been allies, the United States and the Korean Empire, since the Great Disaster began,” Roman Dmitry said calmly. “The United States has helped us before, and I will not ignore your danger now, as an ally. However,” he paused, “this will be the end of our current alliance. South Korea is now the Korean Empire. From now on, all relationships will be new, in the name of the Korean Empire. So, don’t think too much about this help. We will act as allies this one time, and we will take the compensation your President offered. After this… whether the Korean Empire and the United States will be allies in the future? That is something you will need to think about carefully.”
A newly born country.
Just because a new leader had been chosen, Roman Dmitry didn’t completely end the old relationship.
The United States needed help.
It wasn’t just about ending the current alliance.
The United States was a global superpower.
It was a country with the best defense, but what would happen if he solved a problem that even they couldn’t handle? People would recognize the Korean Empire.
Even though the Korean Empire had caused many problems, like breaking international law, the power it had would make it hard for others to be hostile.
This was his plan.
Now that the Korean Empire was safe, Roman Dmitry knew it was time for him to act personally.
With that, he ended the call. *Click.*
The leaders of the Korean Empire were nearby.
They heard Roman Dmitry’s plan, and Kim Jun-hyuk stepped forward and said.
“Shall we get support troops ready right away?”
“No, there’s no need for that.”
He would prove their worth. He would show them the power of the Korean Empire.
He didn’t need to gather a large army. He had a better way.
Roman Dmitry spoke, his voice decisive. “Only Park Min-woo and I will go.” He looked at Kim Jun-hyuk. “You are in charge of the Korean Empire while I am gone. Keep everyone safe.”
Instantly, Park Min-woo’s face lit up. Before Roman Dmitry could even ask, Park Min-woo jumped to his feet, shouting…
“I will immediately confirm the coordinates of the United States and prepare the teleport magic circle!”
