A month before the present.
In a secret place, hidden from normal people, wizards who worked for Dimitri were busy preparing.
They were setting up hundreds of teleportation magic circles.
Teleportation was a common way to travel using magic, but it was unusual to see so many magic circles being used at the same time.
“Preparation complete.”
“Activate.”
“Yes.”
Whoosh!
Hundreds of magic circles glowed brightly all at once.
The magic circles shone brightly, like hot furnaces. The wizards used this power to send small magical stones, called memory stones, into another dimension filled with magical energy.
They sent a thousand stones per magic circle, knowing that most would be destroyed as they crossed into other dimensions. They kept sending them, hoping that even one stone would make it.
This happened every day.
Chris watched the wizards, their faces familiar, as he walked up to the wizard in charge.
“Is there any news?” Chris asked.
“Ah, Chris.”
The wizard recognized Chris and gave a sad smile.
“Nothing new, I’m afraid. We got some weird readings from a few dimensions, but nothing that looks like Roman,” the wizard said.
“It’s been a year of this, and it costs a lot. People are starting to say that all this money is being wasted. Of course, we shouldn’t stop looking for Emperor Roman Dimitri. But many people think we should try to find him directly, instead of sending memory stones into other dimensions,” Chris said.
“I see,” the wizard replied.
A year ago, after Roman Dimitri disappeared, Pelles, the Master of the Magic Tower in Phoenix, managed to reach ‘beyond dimensions’ after many experiments.
The problem was that they couldn’t tell which world they were connecting to, and a living person’s body was too weak to cross into other dimensions.
So, they decided to send memory stones into other dimensions.
The hope was that if Roman Dimitri, or someone who knew him, found a memory stone, they could send a signal back. This would help them find which dimension Roman was in.
That’s how a year had passed.
They did the same experiment every day, but nothing special happened.
Pelles explained, “We use thousands of mana stones to power hundreds of teleportation magic circles every day. The magic laboratory has been running non-stop for the past year to create hundreds of thousands of memory stones to send to other dimensions. At first, I really thought we had a chance, but now I’m starting to doubt it because we keep getting the same results. So, I went to see Duke Valentino. He’s paying for all of this, so I wanted to explain the situation and see if we should try something else.”
The magic experiment was normally paid for by the Dimitri Empire, but Duke Valentino said he would fully support Pelles’ experiment.
It felt like they were wasting resources with no end in sight.
Even though they had no results, he kept investing money. People even said that Duke Valentino was making money like crazy and spending it all on finding Roman Dimitri.
Of course, he somehow made up for the money by running the best merchant group on the continent, but Pelles felt bad because the experiments weren’t working.
But when Pelles visited him, Duke Valentino said, “I would be happy to spend all my money, so don’t stop the experiment. If people are worried about the lack of results, tell them I will give them as much money as they want, so keep doing both. The Empire is still supporting us completely. How can I give up when there’s even a tiny chance, like 0.1%?”
Chris looked away.
He felt terrible and gritted his teeth.
Everyone was trying their best.
If they could find any sign that Roman was alive, people would be truly happy and able to keep going.
Chris didn’t want them to stop trying.
But he felt he needed to be honest about the situation.
Just as Chris was about to say something encouraging, a soldier ran up, out of breath.
“Chris! You need to come now! Something strange has happened!” the soldier said urgently.
The soldier’s eyes were wide. Seeing him approach, Chris’s heart started to race.
A man was lying on the floor.
He wasn’t moving, like a dead man. Chris looked at Isabel, who was once known as a saint, with a worried expression.
“What on earth is going on?” Chris asked.
“It seems that someone has summoned Henry Albert’s soul. At first, I thought he had just died suddenly. But after checking with the power of God, I found that only his soul was gone, while his body is still alive. It might be too early to say for sure, but based on the magic still linked to his body, I think his soul was taken by magic,” Isabel explained.
“That means…,” Chris started to say.
“Yes. It means that someone beyond the dimensions has finally heard our prayers,” Isabel finished.
Chris was overwhelmed with emotion.
He tried to stay calm, happy that their efforts might not have been wasted.
“But why Henry Albert?” Chris asked again.
“It could just be a coincidence. But if we assume that they found Henry Albert, we can guess that the existence of ‘Biography’ created a connection with him. As you know, Henry Albert used his own money to produce the biography and send it to other dimensions. If someone in another dimension used the biography as a way to connect, they would have found Henry Albert, who left the most traces on it,” Isabel explained.
“In the end, it means we can only be sure if Henry Albert wakes up,” Chris said.
“That’s right,” Isabel agreed.
A small chance.
That was enough.
In a situation where they didn’t expect anything, he was happy to have something to look forward to.
The news about Henry Albert quickly spread across the continent.
People came to see Henry Albert, including Kevin, who was known to travel the world.
After deciding to find Roman Dimitri, Kevin had left the Dimitri Empire again.
He traveled the world, thinking he might find a clue somewhere.
Now, Kevin was guarding Henry Albert’s side.
He stayed by his side and never left, knowing that the soul wouldn’t return if the body died.
“I will protect him,” Kevin said.
He was calm.
Kevin guarded Henry Albert’s side like a stone statue.
After half a month, Chris told him to take a break, but Kevin refused to leave.
Kevin was someone who only Roman Dimitri could control.
Chris understood how Kevin felt, so he didn’t try to force him to do anything.
Time passed.
People who were hopeful at first started to worry that Henry Albert might die.
Everyone came.
Everyone knelt and prayed for Henry Albert.
“Please come back alive.”
“Please find a clue.”
Like that, a month went by.
People wanted to see Henry Albert. He opened his eyes slowly, like he was waking from death.
His voice was rough and hard to hear at first. But everyone understood what he meant.
“I met His Imperial Majesty, Roman Dmitry. I have finally met him.”
At those words.
“Aaaah!”
“God!”
“Thank you, thank you so much!”
The news spread through the large hall like wildfire. A roar of cheers filled the air, mixed with sobs of relief.
People cheered loudly. Without anyone telling them, they knelt down, thanking God.
Roman Dmitry was alive. It was the hope they had all been waiting for.
Just knowing Roman Dmitry was alive made them cry, and they kept saying thank you.
Chris and Kevin were also very happy.
But instead of crying, they grabbed Henry Albert, who seemed to know something, and asked questions.
Chris grabbed Henry Albert’s arm, his voice urgent. “Is Emperor Roman Dmitry safe?” Kevin leaned in, his eyes wide with worry.
“Where is that place?”
“What happened?”
“Dimensions? What does that even mean? How did you get there?”
“The Emperor….”
Questions came quickly, like a storm.
Henry Albert was still dizzy, but he didn’t want to ignore their worried faces.
He tried not to feel sick. He couldn’t answer everything now, but he knew what they needed to hear.
His lips hurt.
His dry lips cracked, but Henry Albert tried to give them hope for Dmitry.
“His Imperial Majesty, Roman Dmitry, is safe and sound. And he spoke to me.”
It was still clear in his mind.
He could still see Roman Dmitry talking to him.
“The Emperor is also working to return to us.”
While people celebrated the news, life in Dmitry went on. At the city gates…
Alves, of the Dmitry Guard, looked nervous.
He was new to the guard and had the important job of managing who came in and out of the Dmitry Empire.
The first day is important for everyone, and Alves couldn’t sleep thinking about today.
‘Let’s do well, I can do well.’
He had beaten many others to get this job. Alves wanted to do a great job today.
He wanted to make his family proud of him.
He made up his mind.
His senior had said it would be easy. He said Alves would get used to it quickly because he would mostly be dealing with regular people.
But now.
The guard was on high alert.
Alves felt like he was going crazy on his first day.
“Duke Valentino is entering!”
“Marquis Fabius is entering!”
“Count Lawrence is entering!”
The important people of Dmitry were arriving one after another. Carriages lined up at the grand gates of the Dmitry Empire. Nobles in rich robes stepped out, their faces a mix of seriousness and hope.
That alone made him dizzy, but it was nothing compared to what was about to happen.
“King Cairo is entering!”
“King Hector is entering!”
“Emperor Chronos is entering!”
“Emperor Valhalla is entering!”
Really.
Important people kept arriving.
At first, he was excited about the high-ranking nobles, but when the leaders of each country arrived, he stopped caring about noble titles.
What was going on? Alves was busy with his guard duties and didn’t know what was happening in Dmitry.
It didn’t seem normal, but a new recruit couldn’t ask his senior about it.
‘Is there a continental war going on?’
He was sweating a lot.
Seeing him working hard even though he was tired, the guard captain came over and said.
“Alves.”
“Yes? Yes?!”
He jumped.
The guard captain smiled kindly at Alves.
“I know today is a tough day for you. You’re new to the job, and you’re dealing with people you’d never meet in your life, so it must be hard. But I hope you enjoy this moment.”
He looked around.
Even though they were important people, they respected Dmitry’s rules.
“Today might be hard, but you’ll remember it. This shows how much people care about Emperor Roman Dmitry.”
Alves stared at the guard captain.
He didn’t understand the words at the time, but he would never forget this moment, just like the guard captain said.
The Dmitry conference room.
The Dmitry Empire and important people from other countries were there.
They represented the whole continent and waited calmly for ‘one person.’
After Roman Dmitry disappeared.
The Emperor’s seat was empty.
During that time, someone led the country, not by sitting on the throne, but as a representative.
Creak.
Alves heard whispers about “King Rodwell” arriving, creating a little anticipation.
“King Rodwell Dmitry is entering.”
The King of Arcadia appeared before the people.
