A very, very long time ago. Before humans even wrote history, twelve beings suddenly came into existence.
It wasn’t like being born in the usual way. They didn’t need to eat or drink to live.
They were fine. They never felt hungry, thirsty, or tired. They didn’t even know what those things were.
For a very long time, the twelve beings just existed. It was the same thing every day. Then, one day, they found something new – a crack in space.
“Look!” one of them said.
“What are those things?”
They could talk to each other without words. Through the crack, they saw other worlds full of living creatures. The twelve beings gathered around and watched for ages.
At first, it was funny. They saw creatures living normal lives, fighting and killing each other to survive. It was exciting!
It was like tasting spicy food for the first time after only eating plain food. They were fascinated by this new world.
This is how they learned about “living beings.” They saw creatures being born and dying, and they knew they were different.
After watching for a very, very long time, they started to feel bored just watching. They had a simple thought: Could they do something in that world?
This simple thought would change everything.
One of them tapped. Just a small tap with a finger. They didn’t even know what would happen.
But from their finger, something went through the crack in space. It started as a tiny puff of air, but it became a huge storm in the other world.
It was a disaster for the creatures there. Many were blown away. Their screams of fear and pain reached the twelve beings.
A jolt of excitement went through them. They watched as their small action changed a whole world. They couldn’t stop looking at the crack in space.
That day, they thought, “We will never be bored again.”
And that was the start. That was how these twelve beings, who would destroy many worlds and call themselves “absolutes,” were born.
They were in a place of nothing. A place so empty and silent it would scare normal beings. There was no wind, no sound, nothing like the worlds where creatures lived.
The twelve beings lived in this world without color. Volfir, one of them, looked at the others he had been with for ages. He looked serious as he spoke about what he had just seen.
“Just now,” Volfir said, “Roman Dmitry’s attack made a crack in our dimension. This means if Roman Dmitry attacks us when we go to his world, our bodies, which are made of the same stuff as this dimension, could be hurt in ways we’ve never known.”
They were “absolutes.” They were part of this dimension itself. Normally, nothing could hurt them.
But Roman Dmitry was different. His attack, which destroyed a whole world, had even shocked the absolutes here. They felt it deep inside.
If that attack could break the edge of their dimension, it could also hurt them.
They had been to so many worlds, destroyed so many lives, they couldn’t even remember the number. But Roman Dmitry was different. He was the first one who felt like a real danger to them.
The twelve beings looked at each other. Volfir’s words made some of them worried.
“Volfir is right,” one said. “Roman Dmitry is dangerous.”
“He showed us his power as a warning,” said another. “If that wasn’t even his full strength, he could really break through our dimension and kill us. We need to be careful when we destroy his world. We’ve never faced danger like this before.”
“I agree,” said a third.
The twelve beings respected each other. They always talked things through and listened to everyone’s ideas before making a decision. They always agreed in the end.
But this time, not everyone agreed. Some of the absolutes, like Volfir, felt worried. They understood danger for the first time. But others felt something different – excitement.
Kargas, another absolute, laughed.
“Hee hee hee! Fear of a human? Just one human! Even if Roman Dmitry is strong, he’s just one person. We are twelve! This is going to be fun! Roman Dmitry is a great game for us!”
“Yes,” another said, “He’s just a human, no matter how strong.”
“This is new and exciting,” said a third. “Something that can actually threaten us!” The absolutes became restless and eager. Fear of death? It was a new feeling, and it thrilled them.
Kargas’s gray eyes shone with excitement.
“I know Roman Dmitry is strong,” Kargas said. “That’s why this is so interesting! His world will be destroyed in 49 days. Usually, we destroy ten worlds at once. But this time, we will destroy hundreds of worlds around his, all at the same time! Imagine the chaos and despair for humans! Won’t that be amazing? Will Roman Dmitry be able to keep his promises to them then? When we crush his pride, we will feel even more excitement than this fear!”
They knew they would win. Even if Roman Dmitry was strong, they were twelve. Kargas saw this as a new game. He felt a rush of excitement. A new experience. A creature they had never faced before.
The thought of watching Roman Dmitry struggle made him eager for what was to come. Except for a few who were worried, most of them felt this way.
“Let’s play with this little human,” Kargas said, laughing. “Like when we first found the crack in space, let’s enjoy this!” He laughed again.
Kargas looked down at Roman Dmitry’s world through the crack, his eyes shining dangerously.
Back where Roman Dmitry had been standing… “Huh?!” Baek Mujin’s eyes snapped open. He was sure he had been ripped apart.
But he was alive! He looked at the sky in disbelief. His hands shook as he quickly checked his body.
“…I’m… alive?” He looked around wildly. Then he saw it – pieces of bodies scattered everywhere. Human bodies, torn to bits.
His memory was right. Roman Dmitry had attacked. The shadows had been completely destroyed. Everyone had been killed by one strike – what Roman Dmitry called the Heavenly Demon Sword Technique.
The power was overwhelming.
Baek Mu-jin finally understood why the Emperor feared Chunma Baek Jung-hyuk so much. He understood it as he faced his own death.
And yet.
How was he still alive?
He didn’t understand how he was still alive when everyone else was dead.
It was then.
[Oh, human.]
“……!”
His eyes widened.
High above, the sky seemed to tear open. A form emerged, vast and shimmering like heat haze, yet solid and terrifying. A face, huge as a mountain and cold as space, formed within it, eyes like distant, burning stars fixing on Baek Mu-jin. He fell to his knees, head bowed, heart hammering against his ribs.
[Your body is broken, dust and ashes. Yet, I have pulled you back. I have shared a spark of my own being to rekindle your flame. You are changed, human. No longer bound by the frail limits of your kind. A new power flows in you, a power beyond your wildest dreams.]
“You… you saved me?” Baek Mu-jin stammered, confusion battling with awe. “But… why would you?”
It didn’t make sense.
He was merely an insignificant human to the Absolute Beings, no matter that he was the leader of Amyeong.
He knew very well that he was not important enough to warrant sharing the power of an Absolute Being.
The Absolute Being, Kargaras, smiled.
[Life is a fleeting amusement. Yours, I find, has potential. In the process of your body being destroyed, you experienced what the ‘True Chunma Sword Technique’ is. I am truly curious. If you, who were nothing but a fake, manifest the real thing, what disaster will befall humanity? Human Baek Mu-jin, I will give you one last chance.]
This too was a kind of amusement.
Kargaras’s malice blossomed.
[Recreate the Chunma Sword Technique. And when the great disaster of humanity begins, prove your existence once again.]
Baek Mu-jin was overwhelmed with emotion at the words of the Absolute Being.
The power surged through him, a feeling like being struck by lightning and embraced by a warm fire at the same time. It made him think that he might actually be able to recreate Roman Dmitry’s Chunma Sword Technique.
That was a thrilling thought, even in imagination. And with the ability to resurrect a destroyed human, his choice to succumb to the Absolute Being was certainly not wrong.
Roman Dmitry was ignorant and reckless.
At the thought of appearing anew before him, Baek Mu-jin raised his voice, veins bulging in his neck.
“I will serve you, Absolute Being. I will become your instrument, and paint a masterpiece of chaos for your pleasure.”
49 days countdown. The crisis of humanity had not yet begun.
The leaders of the Daehan Empire were already aware of the attack of Amyeong.
Kim Pan-seok had confirmed the infiltration of Amyeong, but he deliberately stood by their presence on Roman Dmitry’s orders.
And now, Kim Jun-hyuk asked with a stiff face.
“I don’t know if it’s right to keep watching like this. There may be no match for Roman Dmitry, His Imperial Majesty, in the world, but fighting in Amyeong’s base is a different matter. They have claimed to be behind the scenes of the world for a long time, and the power they possess is beyond measure.”
It was a matter of common sense.
No matter how much they believed in Roman Dmitry, the choice to step into Amyeong’s trap was bound to be perplexing.
Roman Dmitry must not die.
In a situation where the war with the Absolute Beings had already begun, the meaning of Roman Dmitry’s existence was not simple, though it was a truly miserable reality. If something happened to him, humanity would be as good as finished.
Kim Pan-seok said.
“Don’t worry. It is impossible for Amyeong to stand against Roman Dmitry, His Imperial Majesty.”
The people now didn’t know about the world where the Emperor of Amyeong had once lived in fear of the Chunma.
Kim Pan-seok was not worried at all.
No matter what the Emperor had left behind, he did not think that the traces of a being who could not even dare to look up at the Chunma would create a variable.
Above all, having faced Roman Dmitry as Alexandre, he was confident in Roman Dmitry, who had become even more powerful than before.
“I fully understand your concerns, but I cannot even imagine His Imperial Majesty being in danger. Whether the opponent is Amyeong, the ruler of the Demon World, or even the Absolute Beings who treat humanity like toys. At least, the person I experienced has never been defeated. So, isn’t it ‘common sense’ to believe that he will surely win?”
The conversation ended there.
Just then, someone was seen approaching in the distance.
Whoosh.
The dimensional door closed.
Roman Dmitry, who used the return magic with the artifact, appeared before the people waiting for him.
“Gasp.”
“H-His Imperial Majesty!”
The people’s eyes widened.
Roman Dmitry appeared, his clothes ripped and stained dark red with blood. The metallic smell of death hung in the air around him, and his face was grim, showing the exhaustion of battle.
People instinctively knew that Roman Dmitry had slaughtered all of Amyeong.
Their hearts pounded.
Even anticipating the assassination, even knowing it was the enemy’s trap, he crushed them with overwhelming power.
Amyeong was by no means an easy force, but Roman Dmitry once again proved what kind of being he was.
Kim Pan-seok handed him a towel.
Roman Dmitry wiped away the blood and ordered Kim Jun-hyuk.
“Now that I have dealt with the betrayers of humanity, deliver the schedule of visits to each country as soon as the sun rises tomorrow. Before the 49 days foretold by the Absolute Being pass, I intend to visit all the allied nations of humanity, starting with the United States.”
“Are you ending your closed-door training?”
“Yes. It was just bait to draw out Amyeong, not to become stronger in the first place.”
“……Understood. But what should I say is the ‘purpose of the visit’ to each country?”
He handed over the towel.
With blood still caked on his face, Roman Dmitry showed a cold glint in his eyes.
“The purpose of the visit is to strengthen the allied nations’ power. Before facing the Absolute Being, I intend to personally show people what unbearable despair is.”
49 days countdown. Humanity, too, will not waste that time.
