Professor Voladi didn’t know what Lee Han was thinking. He just spoke.
“A Ghoul. A low-level one.”
At the end of the dark tunnel, a faint light showed a monster. It looked like it was covered in thick, black goo.
It was a monster called a Ghoul.
The undead monster, not controlled by a wizard, felt like it wanted to kill. You could almost feel it on your skin.
-■■■!
Just then, the magical light that Professor Voladi made went out.
A normal student might have panicked, but Lee Han didn’t stop for even a second. He quickly said a spell.
“Light, be.”
He was ready for anything Professor Voladi might do.
As Lee Han made the light appear, Professor Voladi nodded.
It was like he was saying it was a good idea.
‘No Professor Ghoul, then?’
A Ghoul was an undead monster changed by the bad things people did when they were alive.
So, it wouldn’t be strange if there was a Professor Ghoul.
Well, if there was a Professor Ghoul, that would be scary in a different way…
“Spring forth.”
Lee Han said the spell quietly, even quieter than when he made the light.
He knew that shouting in the dungeon was not a good idea.
Professor Voladi was happy with Lee Han’s quick thinking, but he didn’t show it.
Quick reaction and always being careful.
These were good things for a wizard who fights.
Several water orbs split up, and one flew towards the Ghoul like a threat.
The Ghoul’s jaw broke with a soft thud. The Ghoul stopped walking and stumbled.
‘I need to stop it from moving.’
It was best for a wizard to not fight up close. Lee Han aimed the water orbs at the Ghoul’s knees.
It might have been hard for other wizards to aim so well.
But Lee Han was already good at controlling water magic because Professor Voladi taught him.
One more shot.
The water orb hit the Ghoul’s moving knee and knocked it over.
This time, Professor Voladi didn’t even nod. He just thought it was normal.
Lee Han wasn’t sad because he didn’t expect much.
But it was a shame.
If even one of the guests had been here, it would have been more exciting than any clumsy event!
Lee Han beat the low-level Ghoul without letting it get close.
Then, he checked the Ghoul that fell. Sadly, the Ghoul didn’t have much. It didn’t even have a normal magic stone.
Professor Voladi thought Lee Han was doing something else and said,
“It’s good to make sure they are really down. But you don’t need to get close to monsters. Learn how to check with magic.”
“I will remember that.”
“Keep moving forward.”
Professor Voladi spoke from behind Lee Han.
Lee Han was going to walk without thinking, but then he stopped.
‘Wait a minute.’
He thought, just walking as Professor Voladi said might be dangerous.
Why did Professor Voladi bring him to the dungeon?
Was it because Lee Han could use water magic in many ways?
If so, there might be a trap in the dungeon that needed him to use his magic in many ways.
“Space, be perceived. Feet, wrinkle the earth.”
There was a saying about looking before you jump.
But wizards didn’t need to do that.
They could look before jumping and then fly over it.
Professor Voladi smiled a little as he watched Lee Han use different spells first.
If a student who learned quickly was a good student, Lee Han was learning even before he tried it.
Maybe that’s why it was fun to teach.
‘Professor Voladi is too quiet, which makes me nervous.’
Lee Han took out a bone from his pocket and threw it.
“Appear, bony hand!”
The bony hand flew forward.
Suddenly, a Ghoul jumped out from what he thought was a wall. Lee Han’s eyes opened wide.
‘Stealth?!’
The bony hand tried to grab the Ghoul’s neck, but the Ghoul was too strong. The bony hand was pushed back quickly.
Thwack!
The bony hand was more of a helper than a magic for attacking.
It just needed to buy time.
After seeing that the Ghoul was there, Lee Han made another water orb to beat it.
“…Do they even know how to use stealth?”
“Ghouls are all different.”
“……”
Lee Han decided this wouldn’t work.
Clang, clang-
As Lee Han started to put on different things, Professor Voladi raised his eyebrows a little.
“Fire magic.”
“Yes.”
“Good idea. A great wizard doesn’t stop learning.”
A wizard who only used water because he was used to it would not get better.
A great wizard had to keep finding new things to learn.
‘You don’t give me any time to stop learning even if I wanted to.’
Lee Han thought and focused on fire.
Fire was harder to control than water, which he knew well.
He had to focus, or he could burn everything around him.
Lee Han chose fire for a simple reason.
‘Let’s shoot everything in places where they might be.’
Lee Han didn’t know much about Ghouls, so he didn’t have many choices.
And Lee Han chose to use a lot of fire.
He would move and shoot fire everywhere monsters might be!
Fire was better for this than water.
Whoosh!
Small flames rose around Lee Han. They were smaller than water orbs, but fire was strong enough.
“It seems like you’ve learned this much.”
“I’ve only just started?”
“Go through the dungeon and come down. I’ll be waiting.”
Professor Voladi said and disappeared.
“……”
Lee Han was left alone and almost cursed Professor Voladi.
Someone might hear him.
Whack!
Cursing Professor Voladi didn’t change anything.
Lee Han shut his mouth and beat the Ghouls.
‘I think I know what it’s like.’
The Ghouls in Professor Voladi’s dungeon liked to use stealth.
It was easy to find the ones hiding on the walls in the dark dungeon once he got used to it.
Even Lee Han was surprised when they were on the ceiling, holding their breath, or in puddles…
But he was getting used to this fear.
Flames flew everywhere. The flames were small, but they worked.
Like fireworks, the Ghouls couldn’t stand the flames and popped out.
-■■■■!
When they popped out, he quickly made a water orb to knock them down.
He could make most of the Ghouls come out with flames first, and if he couldn’t catch some, he could feel them coming with his spatial awareness.
Sometimes he was unlucky and was attacked, but then…
Whack!
Lee Han swung his staff and hit the Ghoul in the alley.
It seemed stronger than a water orb.
“…!”
Lee Han was walking through the narrow cave when he felt a cool breeze from far away.
There was a large space at the end of the passage. It was dark, but it felt like a plaza.
He should have been happy to be out of the narrow path…
‘This feels bad.’
Lee Han felt like something bad was going to happen.
The Ghouls might be excited to see him when he entered the plaza!
But he had to go. Lee Han started to get more magic ready.
Professor Garcia was happily guiding the visitor from outside.
A welcome guest had come to the school during the festival.
Yumidihus.
A master of water magic who was famous in the Empire. Imperial wizards used some of the magic Yumidihus made.
Professor Garcia had learned Yumidihus’s magic when he was a student, so he was happy about this old wizard’s visit.
“It’s an honor to meet you.”
“You don’t need to think so highly of me…”
No one would have guessed that Yumidihus, who looked like a kind grandmother, was a wizard who had done great things when she was younger.
Professor Garcia looked at Yumidihus with respect.
“Your school is as lovely as ever. It always brings back good memories.”
“It’s a place with good scenery.”
“The students are good too.”
“I think so too.”
“The professors…”
“They are all wonderful people.”
“That’s not true.”
Yumidihus shook her head. Professor Garcia coughed awkwardly.
“W-Well, is that so? Everyone is working hard…”
“It’s not about skill, but about character… Well, Gonadaltez is there. Gonadaltez may be the problem.”
“……”
Professor Garcia didn’t know if he should agree with the great old wizard or not criticize the headmaster.
I have to be patient!
“Do you have any good students?”
“Yes.”
“There’s nothing better than teaching good students. I’ve done other things well, but I haven’t taught students well.”
Professor Garcia shook his head at Yumidihus’s words.
“Your students are all amazing…”
“They’re all lacking. Is Voladi Begrek here?”
“Yes.”
“I should meet him before I leave. Can you take me?”
“Of course.”
Professor Garcia suddenly remembered something.
Wasn’t it Basic Magic Studies, no, Repetitive Learning of Basic Magic Combat time right now?
‘I wish Yumidihus would be angry after seeing the lecture.’
Professor Garcia went to the basement and opened the classroom door.
But no one was there.
“???”
“He’s teaching the lecture somewhere else.”
Yumidihus tapped the floor with her staff. The footprints on the floor glowed green, showing where he went.
“Ah. The weather is nice, so he’s in the courtyard…”
“?”
Yumidihus looked at Professor Garcia like she didn’t understand.
Voladi wouldn’t hold classes in the courtyard just because the weather was nice.
“…Isn’t that so?”
“He must have gone to the dungeon.”
“Yes?”
“The dungeon. When a student gets good enough, it’s faster to learn in a real fight. Is he teaching 3rd graders?”
“……”
“I’m asking if he’s teaching 3rd graders? Or 4th graders?”
Professor Garcia shook his head at Yumidihus’s words.
“Professor Begrek is not teaching 3rd or 4th graders.”
“5th graders? If it’s 5th graders, outside the school would be better than the school.”
“……”
Professor Garcia didn’t answer.
Instead, he moved quickly because he was worried.
“Let’s go!”
“What’s wrong?”
“Professor Begrek took a freshman to the dungeon!”
“A freshman?”
“Yes!”
“He must be very good…”
“It’s not about that!”
Professor Garcia snapped at the respected old wizard.
