The Death Knights slowly pushed their swords back into their sheaths, but not all the way. They were still not sure.
“Is that really him?” one Death Knight whispered.
“Strange,” another muttered. “Doesn’t he have any pride? He’s supposed to be the master’s honorable double.”
“Maybe he’s not the honorable one,” a third suggested. “Maybe he’s the… sleepy one?”
“No,” Intarendals said firmly. “It’s him. I’m sure of it. I’ve checked many times.”
How strong the Death Knights were in a fight changed a lot depending on how ready they were. Their power came from the spells they picked from the territory’s stores and the weapons they used.
Of course, against the Skull Headmaster’s crazy double, they used their strongest magic.
Even with help from their land, they had to be careful with a powerful Grand Magician.
They had defeated Intarendals in a similar way before, so they were ready to teach the Skull Headmaster’s crazy double a lesson if he showed up.
But things had ended too easily for them. Just giving permission like that? It didn’t feel right.
“Are you sure he really gave permission?” one Death Knight asked. Lee Han thought the same thing. ‘It doesn’t sound like him at all,’ Lee Han thought. ‘He’s not the type to just say yes.’ ‘Could this be a trick?’ he wondered.
“Yes, of course!” Intarendals said quickly.
“He didn’t get angry, or shout, or break things, or destroy everything, did he?” another Death Knight asked, still unsure.
“Our master is a noble person who understands honor,” Intarendals said firmly, as if they were saying something foolish. “He would never do such a thing.”
“Look!” Intarendals said. “Is there even one scratch on me?”
“Well, no…” one Death Knight admitted.
“Maybe he hit you and then healed you?” another whispered.
The Death Knights talked quietly among themselves. They couldn’t argue that Intarendals looked completely unharmed. He seemed surprisingly fine, considering the news he brought.
“Then is Antargandals safe too?”
“Antargandals? Who is that?” Intarendals asked.
“…The, um, magical criminal in the territory,” Lee Han said. “I mentioned him before. The slave…”
“Ah, sorry,” Intarendals said politely, but without warmth. “I don’t bother to remember every useless and unimportant person.” He apologized in a nice way, but his words still sounded cold. Lee Han was glad Antargandals couldn’t hear him. ‘Even a terrible criminal deserves a little respect,’ Lee Han thought.
“That slave…” Intarendals continued, “I think our master has killed him a few times… I’m not sure. Like I said, I don’t care about every useless and unimportant person.”
“…” Lee Han didn’t say anything. ‘So he *is* angry!’ Lee Han thought. Intarendals’ crazy words made him speechless. Hearing that the master had killed Antargandals many times just because he was angry about the news… it was clear he was furious, not calm.
“Now, please take this,” Intarendals said, offering a strange little stone.
“…Will this really work?” Lee Han asked, looking at the stone with suspicion. ‘If I take that stone,’ he thought, ‘I might get a terrible curse, or burn in hell, or my skin might get poisoned and fall off. Or even worse, I might end up right next to the Skull Headmaster’s crazy double.’
“Didn’t Lee Han say this?” Intarendals asked, using Lee Han’s name formally. “‘I really want to learn from your master, but I’m stuck with these bad lessons here, and I don’t have much time.'”
“I don’t think I said it exactly like that…” Lee Han mumbled.
“Watch!” Intarendals said.
Suddenly, the stone flew through the air and landed on Lee Han’s staff. Then, a bright, shimmering light came out of the staff. The Skull Headmaster’s crazy double appeared as an illusion.
“Such rudeness, like a common person.”
“H-How did he break through Einrogaard’s defenses!?”
“Truly amazing…!”
As the Death Knights were amazed by the magic that had broken through Einrogaard’s defenses and entered as an illusion, the doppelganger spat out coldly,
“Silence. You ignorant fools. You are like those who are tricked by empty words and get in the way of great work.”
“Those are harsh words.”
“Do you know how annoyed the people of the Empire get every time you show up?”
“I liked the sleepy doppelganger that showed up last time better!”
The doppelganger didn’t react, no matter how much the Death Knights made fun of him.
The illusion spun around and stared at Lee Han. Lee Han thought about throwing the staff away but stopped as soon as their eyes met.
“How dare you sneak away without permission and then ignore my calls? Do you think your weak skills are so good that you…”
“I had my reasons, Master!” Lee Han quickly said.
There were lectures to go to at Einrogaard, assignments to finish, clubs to join, and other things that made him want to leave…
“You care too much about unimportant things. Your foolishness, you commoner, makes me dizzy.”
‘If I keep making him dizzy, maybe I can get rid of him?’
“For the first and last time, I will give you a break. You, commoner, must never forget this and tell it to your children.”
“Yes, I will remember it.”
Lee Han decided that he would have to tell his children, when he had them, to ‘watch out for the crazy doppelganger.’
After saying everything he wanted to say, the doppelganger nodded proudly and said,
“Then get ready.”
“…Get ready for what?”
The doppelganger sighed deeply. It was a sigh full of anger, dislike, and insults. Even though he didn’t say anything, it sounded like, ‘I can’t believe I have to teach someone like this.’
“Have you already forgotten what you finished last time?”
“No, I learned some telekinesis magic.”
Lee Han said slyly, hoping the other person would be confused about his memories.
But the other person had a very good memory.
“Fifth Circle, right? Start the next Fifth Circle magic now. We have a long way to go.”
“Fifth Circle magic? Already?”
“I heard it’s a Fifth Circle magic in the telekinesis line. A Fifth Circle based on not chanting.”
“Unbelievable! Isn’t that too fast? He’s only a second-year student!”
“I think it’s just right, actually. You could even say it’s slow.”
“Even so, not chanting telekinesis, which isn’t even an easy Fifth Circle magic…”
“I’m happy to see that everyone is so interested in Lee Han of the Wodanaz family. If I can give some advice, I think he can do it, since he’s already done it once…”
‘Why is it so loud behind me?’
Lee Han frowned, wishing the Death Knights and Intarendals would just go away.
He wouldn’t be attacked, but just talking to the illusionary doppelganger made him uneasy.
He had to learn the next Fifth Circle magic whether he wanted to or not, and they were making so much noise behind him…
“I don’t really know what Fifth Circle magic I should do next.”
From Fifth Circle magic on, you needed to completely understand a small area, instead of just following and memorizing the magic.
You couldn’t just learn it because you wanted to; you had to be ready to really study that type of magic.
The doppelganger heard Lee Han’s excuse and said in a cold voice,
“Go to the territory, commoner. The bad lessons are making you stupid.”
“Um, I’ll think about it,” Lee Han said, knowing that if he went in person, he would be attacked until he remembered the magic (or died).
“But I’m only good at telekinesis…”
“Lee Han is very talented, but he has used lightning, ice, and darkness a lot.”
“……”
Lee Han wished he had broken Intarendals’ neck. He should have turned him back into dirt right away!
He had found out so much about Lee Han in such a short time.
“Your taste in elements is okay. You can be proud that you didn’t pick bad elements.”
“Yes, thank you.”
He wasn’t happy to hear the praise. Lee Han wished he had learned normal elements first.
“Ah, I’m also good with water.”
“Are you saying you’ll finish the Fifth Circle magic with water too? You’re very eager. I thought you were avoiding my lessons, but I was wrong.”
“……”
Lee Han was annoyed, having tried to solve one problem but creating another.
The Death Knights, who were behind him, interrupted.
“Water might seem normal compared to lightning, ice, and darkness, but Master Wodanaz has studied it even more!”
“That’s right. Don’t underestimate him just because he uses normal magic. Are you even a Grand Magician?”
“Hmph. Knights who don’t know anything about magic are talking too much.”
The crazy doppelganger ignored the Death Knights’ complaints, but he did listen to some of what they said.
“Okay, I’ll watch your Fifth Circle magic using water. Show me that you’ve studied it more than other Fifth Circle magics.”
“…I’m not very good with water. I use it in normal and common ways.”
Lee Han said, but the doppelganger didn’t listen. He didn’t have time to listen to his student’s modesty.
“Start with lightning.”
“Yes?”
The crazy doppelganger was quiet for a moment, then the illusion became blurry.
Beyond the illusion, the sad screams of a magical criminal, which sounded familiar, could be heard. The crazy doppelganger, who had returned, clicked his tongue and said,
“I said, use lightning magic. It’s okay to use all the weak lightning magic you know on those old knights.”
“That’s not a bad idea. I’ll fight you,” One of the Death Knights eagerly raised his shield and stepped forward.
If it would help the student learn, he would do anything.
Of course, it was rude for that crazy doppelganger to talk like that, but Einrogaard was full of people like that anyway.
It was enough to think of him as the new Professor Bible’s twin and move on.
“Why are you so eager… Never mind. Lightning Bolt!” Lee Han gave up and chanted the spell.
As he chanted another spell with Lightning Bolt, a lightning cloak began to cover Lee Han.
Since this type of change was the hardest lightning element, Lee Han, who was wearing a stable lightning spear and cloak, was praised by the Death Knights.
“Excellent!”
“There aren’t many magicians who can use lightning so well!”
“Silence, be quiet. What are you fools who don’t know anything about magic talking about?” The crazy doppelganger was not happy with the Death Knights’ praise.
He was just starting, and if they praised him like that, his immature student could become too confident.
“Wham!” Lee Han swung his lightning spear and fought the Death Knight.
The Death Knight swung his shield, filled with powerful magic, and pushed Lee Han back.
As the lightning cloak roared and tried to destroy everything around it, the Death Knight quickly hid behind his shield and kept defending.
As the fight stopped for a moment and Lee Han caught his breath, the doppelganger spoke.
“You felt it, right?”
“Yes. Death Knights are cheating undead.”
“Heh heh.”
The crazy doppelganger, trying not to get angry by killing Antargandals again, said,
“You use lightning in a simple way. It’s like using a good sword to catch chickens. You need to learn what lightning really is.”
“What does that mean?” One of the Death Knights asked, but Lee Han understood quickly.
“Even a strong lightning spirit can become lightning by using a person’s body. You’re saying I should do that for a moment.”
The Lightning Incarnation that Perkontra had shown him before, becoming lightning itself.
If he could use this powerful ability even for a second, it would be very useful.
“Right. You’re not stupid.”
The Death Knights, who were watching from behind, suddenly thought that maybe the boy from the Wodanaz family was also partly to blame for this situation, since he understood so quickly.
