Headmaster Skull wasn’t thrilled about the Emperor’s young child visiting Einroguard. It wasn’t because of Yihan’s ideas about him.
Einroguard students were wild and hard to control, like many wizards. Headmaster Skull knew this well, because he liked them that way! He worried if these students attacked a dragon, something terrible could happen to everyone.
The terrible thing would be students being torn to pieces, and Jowoonrin suffering a broken heart!
At least the students being torn to pieces could be managed. But if Jowoonrin were to suffer a broken heart, even Headmaster Skull would struggle to cope.
Unfortunately, dragons, much like the young Wodanaz of the Wodanaz family, were creatures not easily affected by magic.
Fortunately for Headmaster Skull, Jowoonrin was still a young dragon.
A young dragon’s whims were as fickle as boiling porridge.
So, when Jowoonrin, having met the young Wodanaz during the previous winter break, excitedly shouted, “Jowoonrin shall visit Einroguard!” Headmaster Skull didn’t pay it much mind.
He thought this declaration would soon be forgotten, like declarations such as ‘I shall not be picky with food anymore’ or ‘Even if I lose at chess, I shall not knock the chessboard over with my forepaws anymore’.
But even Headmaster Skull’s predictions were occasionally wrong.
Jowoonrin’s passion to visit Einroguard was just such a case.
The hilariously chaotic Einroguard life, as told by a certain young boy from a certain family, was simply too intriguing.
Of course, that boy had embellished it somewhat, as was expected when speaking to royalty, but that embellishment had backfired.
No matter how much Headmaster Skull tried to dissuade him, he wouldn’t listen and began to insist…
“Jowoonrin shall visit Einroguard!”
“…Your Highness. How about you take a nap and reconsider?”
“No! Jowoonrin will visit Einroguard! Headmaster Skull is expecting Jowoonrin to forget about it and is just letting it pass, isn’t he?!”
“Absolutely not. There seems to be a misunderstanding.”
‘Tch. His intelligence has improved since he spoke with that Wodanaz fellow last time.’
“Then Jowoonrin shall visit Einroguard!”
“…His Majesty will disapprove.”
“I got permission!”
“Yes? Mad… Is the Empire about to fall?”
“What?”
“Ah, nothing. Your Highness. The students will be frightened too.”
“Who cares! It’s fine as long as I don’t get caught! I’ll hide in Wodanaz’s room!”
“Your Highness is not small enough to fit.”
“I can stay in human form!”
“It will be uncomfortable.”
“I can endure it!”
“You won’t be properly fed there. You can’t bring your knights or servants, and you have to leave all your toys behind. The environment is terribly poor!”
“It’s fine! …But isn’t Headmaster Skull the lord of the territory? Why is he leaving the environment so poor?”
“Haha. The students are so rough and wild that there’s a limit to what I can do to guide them, Your Highness.”
“Anyway, Headmaster Skull! I will visit Einroguard, so prepare for it!”
“If you make any more excuses, I’ll take it as Headmaster Skull trying to interfere!”
“Understood, Your Highness.”
Realizing it was difficult to make any more excuses, Headmaster Skull obediently stepped back.
But that didn’t mean Headmaster Skull had been defeated.
Having returned, Headmaster Skull simply ignored Jowoonrin’s letters and began to endure.
Ignore them until the other party forgets!
If Headmaster Skull didn’t go and ignored him, what could Jowoonrin do?
But what Headmaster Skull missed here was that Jowoonrin was also capable of quite a lot.
When Headmaster Skull ignored the letters, Jowoonrin began sending letters to the Einroguard professors.
The quick-witted Einroguard professors quickly calculated the aftermath and pretended not to receive the letters, burning them, but among them, there was also a kind-hearted professor.
Wodanaz clearly invited me to visit, but Headmaster Skull, as well as the other professors, are interfering! Professor Beggrec, if you care for your disciple, please help!
Professor Volardy pondered whether he could coldly reject the invitation from one of his only two disciples, or rather, the person who had received the invitation.
After long deliberation, Professor Volardy replied thus:
“Among the professor’s authorities, there is no authority to invite Your Highness as royalty. I am sorry, but if you wish to visit, please visit as a person related to the exam.”
“Good! But what does that mean?”
“It means you must visit in the capacity of setting the midterm exam.”
“So, so, so, so fun! I wholeheartedly agree! I accept Professor Beggrec’s opinion!”
“Understood.”
“Ah! It’s a secret from Wodanaz! I want to surprise him!”
“But considering Your Highness’s abilities, we should inform him in advance so he can prepare…”
“No! Wodanaz can handle it!”
“That’s right.”
Yihan, who was listening to the story, flared up.
To think that Professor Volardy would be deceived by Jowoonrin!
He could hardly believe it even after reconsidering.
‘To think there would be someone who would be deceived by His Highness Jowoonrin…’
Yihan reproached himself.
In fact, this was close to an almost unpredictable natural disaster, but he should have prepared a little more.
At least he should have been wary when Jowoonrin showed interest in Einroguard…
‘Damn it. It’s Headmaster’s fault.’
No matter how he thought about it, Headmaster Skull was about half responsible for this.
Wasn’t it because he needlessly said things like ‘His Highness will forget about it after taking a nap’ that Yihan was careless?
“Professor. When will His Highness arrive?” Yihan asked, not giving up.
It wasn’t over yet.
He could send a letter again before Jowoonrin arrived to prevent the visit.
‘I should say that Wodanaz was kidnapped by a crazy doppelganger and is not in a situation to meet His Highness.’
It wasn’t entirely wrong, so it might work.
“Next week, on Monday.”
“There seems to have been a misunderstanding. I will send a letter to His Highness again.”
“Misunderstanding?”
“Actually, I didn’t invite h…”
Rumble!
With a loud noise, something of enormous mass collided from below Professor Volardy’s underground lecture room.
“What is it?!” Yihan asked, startled.
“The underground airfield.”
Einroguard had several places where flying vehicles coming from outside could land, apart from the Spire Stables.
Among them, the underground airfield was a place often used by those who preferred to enter quietly.
The enormous cavern stretched out like a tunnel, and once you passed through the magically concealed entrance, dozens of carriages could fly in.
Originally, he would have been excited by the joy of realizing the school’s new location, but… Yihan couldn’t.
“…What just happened at the underground airfield?”
“It seems a huge and heavy creature has landed.”
“What are the chances that it’s His Highness Jowoonrin?”
Professor Volardy stared at Yihan instead of answering. Yihan could read the answer in that expression.
“…Let’s go see His Highness…”
“I thought you said there was a misunderstanding.”
Yihan sighed. “I thought I could stop him, but I was wrong. There’s no misunderstanding. He really is here.”
Following his senior, Ean Durde’s eyes sparkled with excitement and anticipation.
“Ean Durde. You mustn’t attack His Highness when you meet him.”
“Why not?”
‘Because you’ll lose like a dog…’
Ean Durde was a born fighter in his own right, but his age and skill couldn’t compare to Jowoonrin.
No matter how harmless Jowoonrin was, a few swings of his forepaws would send Ean Durde yelping and flying.
“His Highness is my friend.”
“Ah!” Ean Durde nodded. He was secretly disappointed inside.
He wanted to fight a dragon once…
“But Professor. Is it okay for Ean Durde to hear about His Highness Jowoonrin?”
It was an important imperial secret, and he wondered if it was okay for Ean Durde to know.
Professor Volardy readily replied to Yihan’s question.
“It doesn’t matter if you’re an Einroguard student.”
“Indeed. Einroguard has that much authority, I see.”
“?”
Professor Volardy looked at his disciple, wondering what he was talking about.
“…Uh, wasn’t it because you’re an Einroguard student that you have the authority to access secrets?”
“It meant a restriction would be placed.”
“Ah.”
Yihan immediately realized.
He had gotten away with it because Headmaster Skull was too lazy to bother, but other students would have restrictions placed on them.
While walking through the deep underground passage, Ean Durde couldn’t help but ask Yihan.
“How are you going to fight?”
“Hmm.”
Hearing his innocent junior’s question, Yihan felt the fact he wanted to forget resurface.
Since he was here for the midterm exam, the exam really was Jowoonrin.
‘If I choose telekinesis, do I have to lift Jowoonrin and throw him? If I choose alchemy, do I have to make a potion that can defeat Jowoonrin?’
He was worried that he would be arrested when he went outside the school, regardless of the success or failure of the exam.
“Ugh!”
Yihan heard a familiar dragon’s voice from afar. Yihan called out to Jowoonrin.
“Your Highness?”
…Jo, Jowoonrin is not here.
“?”
Wondering what nonsense he was talking about, Yihan focused magic power in his eyes.
Then, he saw Jowoonrin stuck in the wall in the underground airfield space ahead.
He probably flew in excitedly but couldn’t reduce his speed and crashed straight into the airfield wall.
He wasn’t hurt, but the surrounding walls naturally couldn’t withstand it. They collapsed with a rumble, covering Jowoonrin.
“Your Highness. Are you alright?”
“Ugh…”
“Didn’t you say you weren’t here?”
“Shh. Ean Durde. When people make mistakes, they can pretend they aren’t there.”
“?”
Ean Durde was confused by Yihan’s words.
Wasn’t the dragon the wisest and most sacred race in the Empire?
How could such a dragon make a mistake and hide in the rubble like a five-year-old child, refusing to come out?
“Your Highness. Please come out. It’s easy to repair something like that anyway. It’s just a scratch.”
“Re, really?”
Jowoonrin was tempted and crawled out of the rubble. A large gold dragon, not yet fully grown, blinked its eyes and revealed itself.
As Yihan came into view, joy immediately filled those eyes.
“Wow! Yihan!”
Jowoonrin accurately grabbed Yihan with his huge forepaw. Having experienced it before, Yihan familiarly anticipated it and created a barrier with chantless telekinesis magic.
Professor Volardy, who was watching from the side, was pleased with his disciple’s growth.
“Ugh. Your Highness. I’m dying.”
“Ah, no! Don’t die, Yihan!”
“Because Your Highness is giving me strength…”
“I released it! I will command you to come back to life!”
“Thank you. I have come back to life.”
He dusted off Yihan and spoke.
Ean Durde, who was watching from the side, was confused whether he should attack the evil dragon attacking his senior, or stay still as he had promised earlier.
“?”
“Who is it?” Jowoonrin asked, looking at Ean Durde.
He knew both Professor Volardy and Yihan, but this wizard was a wizard he was seeing for the first time.
“He’s my junior. His name is Ean Durde.”
“Nice to meet you. Ean Durde!”
Jowoonrin was delighted to hear that he was Yihan’s junior and tried to hug him.
Despite having used much less strength than before, Ean Durde struggled with a choking sound due to the suffocating power.
“Why, why is that? Is there a problem?”
“You need to use even less strength.”
When Jowoonrin was surprised and reduced his strength, Ean Durde scratched his forepaw fiercely (Jowoonrin didn’t even feel it) and escaped.
Then, he distanced himself far away and growled. Jowoonrin’s eyes welled up with tears when he saw someone who hated him.
“Yi, Yihan! Does Ean Durde hate Jowoonrin?”
“Uh… well…”
Yihan glanced at his junior. His junior was growling as if he would never say he liked him.
“Grrrr!”
“…Ean Durde. Will your thoughts change if you receive this?” Yihan tried to negotiate, handing a chocolate bar to his junior.
