259. A Chance Monster Hunt (2)
[Just come this way! We can take care of everything here and then head to Medes.]
Yerim said in a cheerful voice. We were currently stopped at the fork between Medes and Drosia.
Originally, it would have taken us about a day to reach Medes, but the problem was the monsters that had followed us. Because we used spatial movement instead of high-speed movement, the monsters that couldn’t keep up properly had turned towards nearby cities.
Over 300 monsters, including an SSS-class monster, were heading towards the city of Plesch, and we were horrified and turned back. In the end, we could only use spatial movement for short distances occasionally and had to rely mainly on high-speed movement.
As we moved relatively slowly, the number of monsters increased even more, swelling to nearly a thousand if you counted the smaller ones. Now, it was becoming dangerous just to approach any city. If that massive horde of monsters were to scatter, the damage would be significant due to our numerical disadvantage.
Despite this, Yerim was confident.
[You’ll see when you get here. I’ll pick a spot and send you the location~]
Then, the communication abruptly cut off. Since there were no satellites in this area, long-distance communication from a moving ship was unstable. Communication was impossible once we moved out of range of the equipment buried along the road.
“Should we head to Drosia?”
Noah turned to me and asked. Since Yerim was so confident, wouldn’t it be alright? Yoohyun and Moon Hyuna also agreed that it would be better. Both of them said that if it was Park Yerim with the sea in front of her, she could sufficiently handle the numerical problem.
“I heard there are many spirits in Drosia too.”
“I’ve heard that as well.”
Noah nodded at Moon Hyuna’s words.
“However, it will be difficult to expect them to actively cooperate. They do cooperate with spirits, but there are hardly any contractors.”
-I won’t contract with someone I don’t like!
Irin, who was on my hand, said.
“Lin, you contracted with Yoohyun as soon as you were born.”
-That’s because I fell in love at first sight, hyung [older brother/term of endearment]. It’s practically the same as Yoohyun holding Lin’s egg and proposing the contract first! So, I accepted right away~
Originally, she had to get Yoohyun’s consent to contract. Yoohyun probably didn’t think much of it back then, but Lin, this kid. Of course, contracting is much better.
Some of the personnel, including the second SS-class guard of Medes, decided to return to their city. The battleship set off for the northern sea city of Drosia, leading countless monsters.
[The temperature is gradually decreasing. Please bring cold-weather gear when engaging in activities outside the ship.]
The broadcast played. The scenery outside the window was desolate. Only plants particularly resistant to the cold were sparsely visible on the frozen ground.
Even though it was the northern land, the temperature wasn’t originally this low. A mana hole [a source of concentrated magical energy] had formed in the nearby sea, and spirits of water and ice gathered there, causing the surrounding temperature to drop. After several decades, the forest disappeared, the land froze, and a field of snow that never melted spread out.
“Look at the window frosting over.”
Moon Hyuna tapped the window with the back of her hand.
“I don’t have cold resistance skills, should I buy one?”
“It’s convenient to have resistance skills, even if they’re mid-grade. How much are they?”
“3 million points for C-grade.”
“Mine is 10 million points. Isn’t that complete discrimination?”
Unlike equipment or items, skills were expensive even if they were low-grade. Still, 3 million points is affordable, but why am I like this? Attack skills, as well as those related to physical abilities, were all several times more expensive. To be exact, Yoohyun, Moon Hyuna, and Noah were getting discounts.
“Yoohyun, how much is yours?”
“It’s 7 million points. Is it expensive because of the attribute?”
“I’ve gathered quite a few points, but when should I use them? This isn’t going to suddenly become a dungeon raid and have my points disappear, is it?”
Moon Hyuna, who initially aimed for an SS-grade greatsword but switched to skills, worriedly said, hoping that Myungwoo’s growth would make up for it.
“Wouldn’t it be good to use them before installing the last disc? It won’t be possible to raid it before then.”
Unintentionally, we gathered a lot of monsters, so everyone will have plenty of points after this hunt. Especially, there are high expectations for the SSS-class monster. The point difference between S-class and SS-class monsters is about tenfold, so wouldn’t one SSS-class monster give out over 10 million points?
“Dal-ssi [Mr. Dal], I’m counting on you.”
Sigma, who had been listening to the story unrelated to him with a slightly sulky expression, glanced at me. He didn’t answer, but he wouldn’t miss out on the hunt.
Snowflakes occasionally fluttered outside the window, and the temperature dropped even further. Broadcasts searching for people with cold resistance skills were played several times. As the darkened outside became faintly bright again, a broadcast announced that we would be landing soon.
[All non-combat crew members, please move to Area A.]
Outside, several vehicles from Drosia had gathered. Before getting off the ship, I took out the pink fur balls. It’s really not my taste.
‘To think that cold resistance skills are attached as a set effect.’
Combined with the last fur hat I received, the cold resistance skill was a whopping SS-grade. Whether it was the effect of Sveil-yang’s yarn or what Sung Hyunjae had done, I didn’t know. There were no other effects in the set, so I could only use it in everyday life, but it was perfect for now.
I put on the long cardigan, scarf, hat, and gloves. Moon Hyuna, who had come out earlier, smiled broadly when she saw me.
“It suits you well, hyungnim [term of respect for an older brother or male friend].”
“The color is a bit strange, but the craftsmanship is good.”
I especially like the cardigan. It’s roomy and the pockets are big.
“I can make one for you too.”
“Sure, let’s do a scarf.”
I wrapped the overflowing long scarf around Yoohyun. This alone shared the cold resistance skill. Yoohyun wouldn’t be cold if he lightly lit a fire, but it’s better to save mana.
“Dal-nim [Mr. Dal], come here too.”
There’s still plenty of room.
“…I decline.”
Sigma stared at me and Yoohyun before speaking. If it were Sung Hyunjae, he would have accepted it with nonsense and unnecessary elegance. He’s still young.
“Why are you taking care of someone you don’t like? Let’s go, hyung [older brother/term of endearment].”
“Hyungnim [term of respect for an older brother or male friend]! Take the youngest too!”
“Let go, Lambda.”
“Please let go, noona [term of endearment for older sister]~ Say it, huh?”
Sigma was disgusted, but he couldn’t beat Moon Hyuna with simple strength. Hyuna-ssi [Ms. Hyuna] is taller too. Especially her arm muscles are no joke, I’m always amazed when I see them. If it’s the same grade, similar stats, and physical strength without using skills, then body size and muscle mass are important. I don’t know the details, but there’s a difference in the amount of magic power imbued.
Our Yoohyun needs to grow up more.
As we went outside the ship, wind mixed with snow rushed in. I wasn’t cold because of the cold resistance, but the sight alone made me feel chilly.
“Yujin-ssi [Mr. Yujin], aren’t you cold?”
Noah, who had come out earlier, asked me. Noah didn’t have cold resistance, so he was wearing a fur-lined winter coat. It must be an item with cold resistance. His white cheeks were slightly red, probably not a high grade item.
“Noah-ssi [Mr. Noah], would you like a scarf? This shares SS-grade cold resistance.”
“Ah… it’s alright, for now.”
Noah glanced around and said. He didn’t seem to dislike it, but he seemed to be conscious of the people from Medes and Drosia. Does he think that wearing a hot pink scarf together wouldn’t suit a Mu? Suddenly, what Sung Hyunjae had said before came to mind. His relaxed attitude that his class would remain the same no matter what he did.
“Noah-ssi [Mr. Noah].”
I approached Noah, who wasn’t coming. I wrapped the end of the hot pink scarf around his neck. It suits you well.
“It looks great.”
“…Yes?”
“Do what you want. It’s stranger to hold back, it’s not a big deal. Ah, of course, you can’t do bad things.”
Some people looked at us, but they just smiled. Of course, there are many things to be mindful of when living in the world, but Mu is an absolutely important existence in Medes. There’s absolutely no problem with sharing a hot pink scarf.
“It’s okay if it doesn’t harm others.”
Look at our Yoohyun. How confident he is. Sung Hyunjae would have been similar if he were here. Moon Hyuna also has no hesitation about what she wants to do.
“Maybe a pink scarf trend will blow through Medes.”
Noah smiled slightly at my words.
“Are you Han Yujin-nim [Mr. Han Yujin]?”
At that time, a Drosia guard approached us. Before hearing the answer, he looked at both sides of me and made a face that said, ‘That’s right.’ Yerim, what did you explain?
“I will guide you to where Delta-nim [Mr. Delta] is. Please follow me.”
The Drosia guard got on a snowmobile. There were small flying vehicles from Medes, but we couldn’t bring a crowd of auxiliary guard to move them, so we got into Drosia’s car. The car, made to be suitable for running on snow and ice, began to cross the snowfield. Unlike snowmobiles, the car’s speed was slow.
How far did we go? A frozen valley appeared in front of us. It was like a scene where two huge waves were about to collide with each other and froze as they were. As I craned my neck and looked at the rounded cliffs, the Drosia guard proudly said.
“Amazing, isn’t it? Delta-nim [Mr. Delta] made it just yesterday.”
…It wasn’t like two waves had frozen, it was really that. The wall of frozen waves that had risen to the ground sparkled in the sunlight. When we passed through it, the sea appeared. Above the cold northern sea covered in white snow.
“Crazy, what is all that?”
Moon Hyuna muttered. Noah’s eyes widened, and Sigma also had a surprised expression. On the other hand, Yoohyun frowned slightly.
-…Lin wants to hide.
Lin, the fire spirit, said in a slightly subdued voice and burrowed into the scarf. It was understandable that Lin, a fire spirit, would be intimidated. The scenery in front of us was truly spectacular.
The first thing that caught my eye was a white whale. The whale, floating in the middle of the sky like a gatekeeper, slowly moved its long fins, and all sorts of fish swam in groups around it.
It wasn’t just fish. There were marine creatures such as dolphins, sharks, turtles, and jellyfish, as well as spirits in the form of birds, butterflies, and dragons. Countless spirits gathered under the sky and on the snow and ice. Deer, wolves, rabbits, unknown animals, as well as objects such as snowmen, books, knives, and vague shapes were also visible.
It was as if all the spirits in this world had gathered here. A pure admiration flowed out, even as my spine tingled.
In the middle of it all, at the center of all the spirits, stood a familiar face. Short hair fluttered in the sea breeze. Surrounded by countless spirits, Yerim vigorously raised one arm.
“Ahjussi [term of endearment for an older man]!”
I couldn’t help but smile at her bright smile as she welcomed us. As the car got closer, Yerim flew towards us. She waved her hand to stop the spirits from following. But…….
“Ahjussi [term of endearment for an older man] is still the same?”
“Oh, yeah. Yerim, you’ve… grown a lot.”
No, her actual body hasn’t grown. Even though she’s possessed. She’s taller than me. No matter how I look at it, she’s definitely not fifteen years old. Yerim smiled meaningfully. In her 20s… maybe? I remembered Yerim from before the regression. Her expression is completely different, but her face is similar. However, her eyes were blue and her hair had a blue tint.
“Han Yoohyun! You look similar too. Here, I’m on the same level as you, former Guild Leader-nim [term of respect]! Hyuna unni [term of endearment for older sister]! Wow, you’ve gotten so much taller! I’m jealous! Noah oppa [term of endearment for older brother], your eye color is so pretty! I wish I could take a picture, Soyoung unni [term of endearment for older sister] would love it. Sungseong Guild Leader-nim [term of respect], why does your atmosphere feel so stiff? Did something happen?”
“I’m not the Sungseong Guild Leader.”
“Yes?”
When I explained that Sung Hyunjae was somewhere else and Sigma was from here, Yerim’s mouth dropped open.
“Wow, there are two of that face. That’s cheating.”
I was about to tell her about the other situations, but the Drosia guard who was on the communication shouted loudly.
“Monster horde, caught on Camera 1!”
“Really? We need to prepare. Ahjussi [term of endearment for an older man], do you want to stay out of the way?”
“Huh? No, I’m going to help too.”
“It’ll be dangerous.”
“Yerim, I have a skill that applies double points. Of course, it can be shared too.”
At that moment, Yerim’s movements stopped, and she let out a scream-like shout.
“Ahjussi [term of endearment for an older man] is the best! Double points!”
Yerim was happy, but Yoohyun and Moon Hyuna couldn’t hide their disappointment. But both of them seemed to think it was better to share it with Yerim. Of course, Yerim will catch the most monsters here, so it’s a natural conclusion.
I was really disappointed too. Why do I only have one body? Still, there will be plenty of monsters to hunt. News came from Camera 2, and we hurried to prepare to face the monster horde.
