148 #27 – The Temperature of the Year-End (6)
After receiving the Best New Actor award at the MBS Drama Awards,
I had a simple dinner with the ‘Temptation of the Mistress’ team.
Of course, it was called a simple dinner, but the amount of alcohol consumed was anything but simple.
I received the Best New Actor award.
Writer Kim Hanna received the Best Writer award.
And on top of that, we also received the Popular Drama of the Year award.
A total of 5 teams received the Popular Drama award, including us.
Considering the countless dramas that come out in a year, being in the top 5 was an incredible blessing and stroke of luck.
Our ‘Temptation of the Mistress’ team, having seized such good fortune, couldn’t possibly skip out on a team dinner.
Director Song swiped his card like crazy, with a prouder look on his face than ever before.
And as a result.
“Ugh, my head hurts.”
Holding my throbbing head, I barely managed to get out of bed.
Bright light streamed in through the slightly open curtains.
The sun had long since risen high in the sky.
I dragged my alcohol-laden body to the kitchen and gulped down a cup of cold water.
“Haa….”
I leaned against the wall.
My head was spinning, and with the dizziness, I went to the sofa and leaned back.
Zhee-ing.
Zhee-ing.
The cell phone kept ringing.
It wasn’t a call, but a series of notification sounds.
I rubbed my eyes and checked my cell phone.
Alarms had been going off non-stop since last night.
It was none other than congratulatory messages pouring in after winning the Popularity Award.
There were countless unread messages.
Checking those messages made the corners of my lips turn up on their own.
Have I ever received so many messages like this?
Even when I first appeared in a drama mini-series that many people watched.
Even when I appeared on a popular weekend entertainment show.
My cell phone had never rung so much that it was overheating.
I realized once again that receiving an award is a big deal.
And my parents, whom I was too out of it to contact the day before.
There was also a message from my parents.
I quickly called them.
-Hello? Son!
“Oh, Mom. Are you busy?”
-No, if my son calls, I have to answer even if I’m busy. Did you sleep well?
“Yeah, did you watch yesterday?”
My mother smiled brightly at my words and replied.
-Of course. Your father and I watched it. We watched with bated breath, and when you received the award, I couldn’t help but cry.
“Hey, is that something to cry about?”
-Of course. You’ve worked so hard, Hee-sung.
“Where’s Dad?”
-Your dad has been very busy since yesterday. I haven’t had a chance to see his face.
“Why, what’s wrong?”
I asked with a surprised and worried voice.
My mother chuckled and said to me.
-Your father went out as soon as you received the award yesterday, Hee-sung. He went out and treated people here, and treated people there.
“Haha, is that so?”
-Yeah, he went out early this morning to meet other people in the neighborhood and buy them lunch. Honestly, because of your dad… sigh.
“Our dad must be breaking his back paying for his son’s bragging rights.”
-That’s what I’m saying. I can’t live like this.
“Dad must be busy spending money because of me; I should send him some pocket money.”
-Don’t bother. Do what you want to do, and buy what you want to buy. Don’t spend it on us.
“Mom, didn’t you see yesterday? I won the Best New Actor award. I can afford that much, so don’t worry. Mom and Dad should eat something delicious and buy some clothes.”
-We’re doing fine, so don’t worry. Take care of yourself and eat well.
“Okay. I’ll contact you again.”
-Okay. You must have been tired yesterday, get some rest.
I hung up the phone with a pleased smile.
My father had opposed my path as an actor.
But the fact that he finally recognized me and was supporting me was more satisfying and exhilarating than anything else.
“I want to… succeed even more.”
I squeezed my eyes shut, clenched my fist, and shouted.
And I quickly transferred money to my father’s account.
Instantly, the headache that had been bothering me due to the hangover seemed to be completely washed away.
Looking at my cell phone like that, I clicked on SNS [Social Networking Service] as if possessed.
On SNS, several scenes from the awards ceremony the day before were being captured and circulated.
There was also a short video of the impressive acceptance speech.
Such videos were not just about me.
As I scrolled down, I saw.
“…Huh?”
Familiar documentaries were plastering SNS one after another.
I frowned and checked the post.
The documentary I appeared in, ‘The Life of an Entertainer’.
It was a documentary filmed while working on ‘Temptation of the Mistress’.
The documentary aired around the time the first episode of the drama came out.
So that means it’s been several months since the broadcast ended.
“Why is this documentary suddenly trending?”
Tilting my head in question, I searched for the documentary in the internet window.
Soon, I was able to find out why the documentary was circulating on the internet again.
Although it was quickly buried at the time.
It became a hot topic again this time when I received the award.
In other words, it was making a comeback.
I had seen the documentary when it aired, but I also replayed the video.
A 3-hour documentary.
Five professions appeared: actor, singer, comedian, PD [Production Director], and writer.
But the comments were full of content about me, the actor.
The scenes of trouble with Shin Min-young were, of course, all edited out.
Even the days when she and I were friendly were mostly cut out.
It seems that the PD, who directly witnessed the atrocities Shin Min-young committed against me, revealed all of her content.
I scrolled down the video and started looking at the comments one by one.
The reactions on the community were full of praise and favor for me.
I was smiling, but soon I fixed my gaze on the screen with a serious face.
“Is it possible… for people to like me like this without any compensation?”
I bit my lip tightly at the grateful feeling and wrinkled my nose.
“I’m so… grateful.”
Then I read every story about me without missing a single one.

Leaning back on the sofa, fixing her gaze on the TV.
Kim Hanna was gaping and admiring, staring intently at the screen.
“Wow… Jin Hee-sung. Was he always this good at acting?”
She made a ‘tss’ sound and was already watching the drama starring Jin Hee-sung for the 6th episode in a row from her seat.
Perhaps the long sitting position was uncomfortable, she grabbed the remote control and lay down on the sofa.
And she clicked the remote control to play the next episode.
“Ah, it’s already episode 7.”
Her gaze turned to the clock next to the TV.
And again, her eyes were fixed on Jin Hee-sung on the screen.
As the sun began to set in her house.
Kim Hanna yawned widely and got up.
“I finally watched it all.”
On the screen in the TV, a line of text appeared on a black background.
‘Thank you for loving ‘Temptation of the Mistress’ so far.’
As the last episode ended, she went to the kitchen and grabbed a drink and a pile of snacks.
“I just thought Jin Hee-sung was okay. But his acting… feels like it has some kind of pulling magic?”
Kim Hanna burst into laughter without realizing it at the face of Jin Hee-sung, which kept lingering in her mind.
“Well, I don’t have any schedule tomorrow, so I can stay up all night, right?”
She brought a handful of snacks to the living room.
While drinking her beverage, she searched for ‘Jin Hee-sung’ on her cell phone.
“Wow, he just received the Best New Actor award, but why does he have so many works?”
She nodded, looking through Jin Hee-sung’s works one by one.
Before she knew it, she was holding the remote control and looking for his work.
“This looks fun, should I watch it?”
Kim Hanna started binge-watching another one of Jin Hee-sung’s works.

“Okay, Jin Hee-sung, please get ready.”
Manager Kim still looked at me with a nervous face.
“Hee-sung, are you ready?”
At his question, I adjusted my suit from my seat and nodded.
“Yeah, can I go down now?”
“Yeah, do well. Don’t be nervous.”
I grabbed the car door with my hand, looked at him, and smiled.
“I think *hyung* [older brother/male friend] is more nervous than I am?”
I smirked at him and then *beolkeok* [sound of opening something forcefully] opened the door I was holding.
Click, click-.
Flash-!
Pouring camera flashes and shutter sounds.
“Kyaa!”
“Please look over here!”
“*Oppa* [term used by younger women to address older men]!”
And the red carpet spread out long under my feet.
I smiled brightly and waved my hand.
I bowed my head from time to time and greeted the fans and the camera.
I approached the photo zone at the end of the red carpet and struck a pose.
‘PBC Drama Awards’.
After winning the Best New Actor award at the MBS Drama Awards.
Just 4 days later, I attended the PBC Drama Awards.
Today, I was nominated for the Popularity Award, not the Best New Actor award.
But I was in a relatively comfortable state of mind compared to the nervousness I felt when I was nominated for the Best New Actor award.
The weight of my heart was definitely not due to the size of the Best New Actor award and the Popularity Award.
It was just that the awards ceremony in my life was the second one.
The fact that I had experienced it once made the tension quite different from the first time I attended MBS.
Of course, I’m still nervous now.
But it’s not the kind of tension that makes me unable to breathe like that day.
But my heart was still beating as if it would pop out.
My mood was light as if I was flying and floating high in the sky.
After a light interview on the red carpet, I entered the stage inside the PBC broadcasting station.
I couldn’t hide the smile that burst out on its own and took my seat.
I had walked the red carpet twice.
But still, this feeling and feeling were so happy and good that I couldn’t express it in words.
The big screen on the stage in front of me.
It was showing the vivid scene of the red carpet that I had just passed in real time.
I looked at the screen and murmured softly.
“Red carpet… it’s addictive. I want to go again.”
And I burned my will to work harder next year.
The empty seat to my right, that is, on the aisle side.
There was a name tag attached to it that said ‘Choi Seo-bin’.
Choi Seo-bin had not yet entered the PBC broadcasting station.
Of course, as a top star, he didn’t appear as early as I did.
It’s not good to divide people into classes, but there are definitely classes in this world.
Therefore, the order of appearance was naturally shown by class.
In the red carpet live broadcast, supporting actors were now appearing.
Some of them were actors who were nominated for the Excellence Award and the Top Excellence Award at today’s PBC Drama Awards.
Then, it seems that Choi Seo-bin’s turn is still a long way off.
After several tens of minutes passed.
The seats here were now densely filled with actors.
In other words, most of the actors had arrived.
I leaned back in my chair and watched the actors appearing on the screen.
Soon, a new actor was seen walking on the red carpet and entering.
Actress Kim Soon-ja, a middle-aged actress who won the Grand Prize at PBC last year.
She was the main character in a drama that made all viewers shed tears.
Of course, she was a tremendous actress with a career already at the top level in addition to that work.
When Kim Soon-ja passed the red carpet and entered the PBC broadcasting station.
We all stood up and greeted her with applause without anyone saying anything first.
Clap clap clap!
“Hello, senior.”
“Have you arrived?”
The actors who were close to her immediately ran to greet her.
At that time.
Another actor was walking on the red carpet.
Flash-!
Click, click-.
Click!
“Kyaaaa!”
“Waaack!”
The camera flashes reflected on the screen.
The shutter sound that followed was the most and fastest I had ever heard.
The cheers of the people were also the loudest since entering PBC.
Who on earth came?
The actors here, including Kim Soon-ja, who were greeting her, turned their heads and looked at the screen.
A person smiling brightly, waving his hand, and walking.
It was Choi Seo-bin.
With every gesture of his hand and every glance, the fans screamed as if they were fainting.
Thanks to the reporters who were busy capturing his every look and movement, not wanting to miss a single one.
The shutter sound never stopped for even a second.
“As expected… top stars are different.”
I opened my mouth wide, looking at his confident appearance and force.
It wasn’t just me who was surprised to see Choi Seo-bin on the screen.
Many actors were looking at Choi Seo-bin with envious eyes.
Soon, Choi Seo-bin entered here through the big door.
As with Kim Soon-ja’s entrance, most of the actors stood up from their seats and greeted him.
Choi Seo-bin bowed his head slightly and sent greetings as he walked.
Choi Seo-bin looked around as if looking for someone.
At that time.
“Hee-sung-ah!”
Choi Seo-bin raised his hand high, waved it, and called me.
At his call, the eyes of all the actors turned to me, whom he was looking at.
I approached him with my shoulders raised in pride.
“Senior!”
“Oh, isn’t this the actor who received the Best New Actor award? Congratulations.”
He put his arm on my shoulder and stroked it with his hand.
Some of the rookie actors around me were looking at me with envious eyes.
“Haha, thank you, senior.”
“I heard you were nominated for the Popularity Award today?”
“Hey, senior, aren’t you nominated for the Grand Prize?”
He smirked and replied to me.
“It’s all thanks to you, you little rascal. Let’s do well today.”
“Yes!”
