Hyung, Am I Cute? 127 (127/500)
Before heading to the dinosaur museum, there’s something I need to do.
These places are more enjoyable with a bit of background knowledge.
Going in completely blind is like just staring at big monsters.
But knowing too much can spoil the fun.
What I mean is…
You should go in knowing at least one dinosaur you like.
Like the famous Tyrannosaurus.
So, I decided to give Siha a crash course on dinosaurs today.
“Siha, today I’m going to teach you about dinosaurs.”
“Diny-soar?”
“It’s not ‘diny-soar,’ it’s ‘dinosaur.'”
“Diny-long.”
“Ahem, anyway, look at these!”
I showed Siha some pictures to spark his interest.
Thinking of it as studying kills the fun.
I put a lot of thought into this.
How can I make learning fun?
So, I prepared 10 dinosaur cards.
I’m not sure which one he’ll like, but this should be enough.
‘I don’t know that much about dinosaurs either.’
I tapped the 10 cards.
“Okay, Siha, pick the one you like the most.”
“Ahhh.”
Siha examined the 10 cards with curious eyes.
He looked them over carefully, like he was shopping.
Then he picked up one card.
“Hyung, this one.”
“You like this one the most?”
“No.”
“No?”
“Ahhh, this one. Siha know.”
“Oh! You know it?”
“Ahhh. Tiramishulus.”
“You mean Tyrannosaurus.”
Instantly, a very scary carnivorous dinosaur transformed into a sweet dessert.
His ridiculous answer made me laugh.
“Ahhh! Tiramishulus.”
“Yes, Tiramisu. Tiramisu. This one is the strongest of all the dinosaurs.”
“Ah?”
“It’s super strong.”
Is the Tyrannosaurus actually the strongest?
I think I heard there was an even stronger one…
Or was there?
Anyway, the famous one is the strongest.
“So, Tyrannosaurus isn’t your favorite?”
“Ahhh.”
Siha looked at the cards intently and picked one up.
Pachycephalosaurus.
A dinosaur with a thick, bony skull used for headbutting.
“You like this one the most?”
“Ahhh.”
“This is a Pachycephalosaurus.”
“Paki. Palo, Ssau?”
It doesn’t fight with its arms; it fights with headbutts.
“It’s a headbutting dinosaur.”
“Ahhh! Headbutt!”
Siha banged his head on the picture card.
I guess a straightforward name is better.
I should just roughly tell him the name and have him remember the shape.
If he stays interested, he’ll memorize it on his own anyway.
“But why do you like this one?”
I was really curious why he liked the headbutting dinosaur.
Siha showed me the reason with his body.
He drew a circle with his hand.
Then he lay down on the spot.
“Siha. Headbutt. Ride.”
“Huh? Ah! Don’t tell me you chose it because it’s good to ride on its head?”
“Ahhh.”
That’s a perspective I never even considered?
To think of lying down and riding on that head.
“Siha car.”
Siha held up two fingers.
I guess the headbutting dinosaur has become Siha’s second car.
The scale of things he rides is getting bigger and bigger?
Let’s praise him first.
“Siha, you’re a genius!”
“Ahhh.”
***
-Daycare.
You shouldn’t assume that the topics of conversation are always the same just because the kids go to daycare and play every day.
The stories are more diverse and richer than you think.
Well, it’s mostly about what happened at home and what they saw.
Today, in particular, the dinosaur stories were heating up.
Seungjun said.
“I know all about dinosaurs. Dinosaurs are good at soccer too!”
Seungjun watched a cartoon where dinosaurs played soccer.
Since then, he started to take an interest in dinosaurs and began memorizing the names of more than 10 dinosaurs.
“Hana too, Hana too. Know Tyrannosaurus! Have toy at home too!”
Hana also started to take an interest after playing with Seungjun.
Of course, the way they played was different.
“Tyranno is strong daddy. Bangs hammer on wall. Hangs picture too.”
In short, it was a Tyranno toy used for playing house.
Siha heard the story and took out a card from his pocket.
“Ahhh. Headbutt!”
He was proud of the headbutting dinosaur he liked.
“This Siha car.”
In his imagination, he was already riding on the head of the headbutting dinosaur.
The twins also joined in Siha’s imagination.
“Wow! It would be fun to ride on it.”
“Hana will comb the headbutting dinosaur’s hair.”
“Ah?”
Siha looked at the dinosaur on his card again.
He didn’t know how he could comb the hair of a dinosaur that didn’t have any hair.
He just nodded, thinking that’s how it was.
“Ahhh. Hair!”
“Siha, but the headbutting dinosaur is also good at header shots. Its head is hard, so it puts the ball in the goal quickly!”
“Header?”
“Yeah, header.”
Hana nodded.
“That’s right. The headbutting dinosaur is also good at cooking. It uses its hard head to mash garlic well.”
“Ah?”
Siha looked confused, as if he didn’t know that fact.
Of course, it was all in their imaginations.
Siha’s imagination became even richer.
The headbutting dinosaur was re-established.
As a dinosaur that is good at cooking and heading.
The teacher watched the scene and laughed silently.
“Tsk tsk.”
Then Jongsu appeared.
Waving his index finger from side to side.
“Why are you saying such nonsense? There’s no way a headbutting dinosaur would do that.”
Seungjun glared.
“What? It kicked a soccer ball in the cartoon!”
“That’s a cartoon, not real life. You know what? The headbutting dinosaur’s brain is only the size of a walnut.”
“I know that too!”
“If it’s that small, isn’t it stupid? Then how can it play soccer? That’s nonsense. It probably can’t mash garlic well either?”
“Eek.”
Seungjun pouted.
It was a logical argument, but he didn’t want to admit it.
“A cartoon is a cartoon!”
“Yeah, a cartoon. That’s why I only watch dinosaur movies. Have you seen it? A huge dinosaur comes out and it’s so creepy.”
“I’ve seen it too!”
“Siha, have you seen it too?”
Siha was thinking, ‘What’s a walnut?’ and tilted his head at the sudden question.
“Walnut?”
“No, I mean the dinosaur movie.”
“Moby?”
“Yeah, movie.”
“Moya?”
“Huh?”
Siha didn’t know what a movie was, so he didn’t know what they were talking about.
Jongsu spread his arms wide to explain the screen.
“A movie is something you watch on a big screen like this.”
That was an explanation of the movie theater, but it roughly made sense to the children.
“No.”
“Really? You haven’t seen it? Then I can take you.”
Then Hana and Seungjun grabbed Siha’s arms.
“Siha is going with us.”
“Right! Going with Hana!”
“Ah?”
Jongsu scoffed.
“It’s up to Siha. Why are you deciding? Right, Jaehwi.”
“Huh? Me?”
“Yeah. You want to go too, right?”
“…Yeah. Dinosaur amazing….”
Jaehwi said it casually, but he was actually very scared inside.
He hated dinosaurs and ghosts, just like high places.
But he didn’t want to look weak, so he pretended to be brave.
Jongsu looked at Siha.
“What do you say? Want to go?”
Siha hesitated for a moment and shook his head.
“Siha. With Hyung.”
“Ah. You’re going to see a movie with Hyung?”
“No.”
“Huh?”
“Museum. With Hyung. Museum. Diny-long.”
“You’re going to the museum with Hyung?! Th-that sounds fun….”
At those words, Seungjun’s eyes sparkled.
“Siha, I want to go too! Me too!!”
“Hana want to go with Siha oppa [older brother/friend] too!”
“Ah?”
Jaehwi, who was behind Jongsu, muttered, “I don’t want to go….”
But the general opinion was in favor of the dinosaur museum.
The children raised their hands, saying they wanted to go too.
The teacher was sweating at the sudden public opinion.
“Okay! Everyone calm down.”
But there was someone who dropped a follow-up article here.
Siha puffed out his chest and boasted.
“With Hyung. Make diny-long!”
“You’re going to make dinosaurs? Wow, that sounds fun!”
“Hana want to make dinosaur too!”
“Ha! I’ll probably be the best at making them out of all of you. I’ve seen dinosaur movies!”
“…I don’t have to make one. Do I really have to go?”
Somehow, it became an atmosphere where everyone was going to the dinosaur museum together.
The director, who saw this, said.
“Shall we all go as a group with the children?”
“Pardon me?!”
“I looked it up and they’re having a dinosaur-making event with clay dough…. I think the kids will love it. There are busy parents these days too. It would be good to play with the kids. And we need to use the funds we received in the first half of the year.”
“W-well, that’s true.”
“Sihyuk is giving us a really good idea. Right?”
“Right! Ah! I think Siha will have fun going with the kids too.”
“That’s right. Before, it seemed like Sihyuk liked crowded places.”
That was a misunderstanding.
I like moderately crowded places.
Just Seungjun and Hana are fine.
Of course, it doesn’t really matter if I don’t have to take care of everyone.
“Um, um. That’s right.”
“Then let’s contact them. If Sihyuk allows it, we’ll go together.”
“Yes~!”
Teacher Yudahui called Sihyuk.
And Siha and the children were discussing what to bring when they went to the museum together.
***
And so, the day to go to the dinosaur museum dawned.
Somehow, all the children from the daycare ended up participating.
Really, why did it turn out like this?
I looked at Siha.
It must be because Siha is cute.
“Hyung!”
“Yeah.”
The sound of him calling me is so cheerful.
It’s fun because it’s crowded, but is it just my imagination that the schedule ahead looks rough?
Still, the daycare decided to pay for the museum entrance fee.
Not only that, but we can also save on other miscellaneous expenses.
But more than anything, I was happy that Siha would be able to play without a care in the world today.
That way, he won’t look around at the parents.
I was still cautious about this.
“Then shall we leave now?”
“Ahhh.”
We were supposed to leave from the daycare together.
I drove my car.
When I arrived at the daycare, all the children except Siha had arrived.
The main character always appears last.
Siha waved his hand at the children.
“Hello!”
After the children greeted him, they started talking about what snacks they brought.
They were excited, as if they were going on a picnic.
Although they’re always excited.
Seungjun said.
“Siha, I brought dinosaur snacks. Look!”
“Ahhh! Siha too.”
“Huh? Siha brought dinosaur snacks too?”
“No.”
“Then what did you bring?”
Siha rummaged through his penguin bag and took one out.
“This!”
What came out of the bag was Stone Age chocolate [a popular Korean snack shaped like small rocks].
The era may not match, but it felt like it fit somehow.
“Wow! You can hit a dinosaur with this and win.”
“Ahhh.”
“Hana brought Pepero [chocolate-covered pretzel sticks]!”
They each took out their favorite snacks and showed them off.
“Then Seungjun, Hana, and Siha, get in my car. Okay?”
Everyone answered “Okay,” and we set off for the dinosaur museum.
We arrived, playing songs excitedly.
The children ran excitedly to the entrance.
I had a hard time keeping up with them.
“Okay, everyone. Now we buy tickets here and go in. Got it?”
“Ahhh! Hyung!”
“Wow! Sihyuk Hyung. There’s a dinosaur from the entrance!”
“Sihyuk oppa. Come quickly.”
I guess my words don’t work.
The children were excited just looking at the entrance.
Their eyes were full of wanting to go in quickly.
“Sihyuk, here are the tickets. Let’s go in.”
“Yes. Thank you.”
I received the tickets from the director and entered the dinosaur museum with Siha.
“Wow! It’s cool!”
Honestly, I cared more about the coolness than the dinosaurs.
Because dinosaurs weren’t really my thing.
Seungjun said.
“Then where shall we go?”
“Oppa, we have to go this way.”
“No. This way.”
There were arrows, but there were three directions.
It probably doesn’t matter which way we go first.
Because there are three entrances.
“Um.”
I glanced around and looked at the teacher.
“Let’s all go together. We’ll look in order, and if we get separated, we’ll meet at the event place.”
“Let’s do that.”
So, we decided to move together for now.
It’ll be okay since we promised a place to meet even if we get separated.
The moment we started.
“Excuse me, are you Lee Sihyuk?”
“Yes?”
Who are you?
