The Demonic Lord’s Advent in the Modern World, Volume 81 (1st Chapter)
Chapter 1: Proclamation (1)
“What is it?”
“What do you mean?”
“I’m asking why you keep staring at me.”
“Me?”
“Yes. Should I pluck them out?”
“I wasn’t exactly staring, but if you can, go ahead. That is, if your head is still attached to your neck by then.”
“This punk!”
Shin-chang shouted in an annoyed voice.
“Shut up, you damn bastards!”
Only when Shin-chang bared his teeth did the others shut their mouths.
Skill doesn’t really matter in determining their hierarchy. They are all at their own level, and even if there is someone stronger, they all have the ability to turn the tables depending on their condition and the situation of the day.
Nevertheless, the reason Shin-chang’s voice carries weight is because he is the most favored among the Twelve Blades by the Sword King.
Though that’s just their own perception.
“Damn it.”
“Tch.”
Watching the two people step back, Shin-chang sighed.
‘It’s understandable.’
He, too, is incredibly on edge right now.
Only two days remain since the Black King’s declaration. In two days, the results of what they have been preparing for their entire lives will be revealed. Whether they will have to fight against the whole world, or whether they will gain a land of peace where martial artists can reside.
Even examinees who are taking an exam they have prepared for only a few years, and can retake, are as sharp as knives. It’s impossible for those who are about to face the results of their lifelong wish, a wish they only have one chance at, to be in their right minds.
Shin-chang’s head slowly turned to the side.
His eyes caught the sight of the Black King lying down on two chairs pushed together in the situation room.
‘…Is he really sleeping?’
Unless his nerves are made of whale tendons, how can he sleep in this situation? But it seemed that the gut-wrenching tension they were experiencing was not being transmitted to the Black King.
And the next ones who were maintaining their composure were, surprisingly, Baek Yeon-hong and Gong-ryeong.
Gong-ryeong is usually calm, so that’s understandable, but for Baek Yeon-hong to remain silent in this situation is quite strange. Normally, he would be the first to pick a fight and start a brawl.
From Baek Yeon-hong’s figure standing guard beside the Black King, one could feel a firm resolve that was different from before.
Even with one arm missing.
‘Unfathomable.’
He, too, was drawn here by the existence of the Black King. There is no doubt about how much the Black King is a person who draws people in.
But even though he himself had done wrong, is it possible to give even more loyalty to the person who took his arm?
He doesn’t know since he hasn’t experienced it. But even a three-year-old could guess that it wouldn’t be easy.
“Two days…”
A low voice escaped from Gong-ryeong’s mouth.
“Baek Yeon-hong.”
At Gong-ryeong’s voice, Baek Yeon-hong turned his gaze to Gong-ryeong.
“What is it?”
“What do you mean?”
“I’m asking what you think the outsiders will do.”
Shin-chang’s eyes widened slightly.
Basically, Gong-ryeong and Baek Yeon-hong are like sworn enemies. Finding someone among the Twelve Blades who gets along well is like finding a needle in a desert, but choosing the two who hate each other the most is too easy. It’s those two.
But Gong-ryeong, who didn’t even treat Baek Yeon-hong like a person, is talking to Baek Yeon-hong first.
“It’s none of my business.”
Baek Yeon-hong said indifferently.
“If they attack, I’ll kill them, and if they retreat, I’ll let them live. That’s my role.”
“Simple, I like it.”
“There’s no point in me using my brain anyway. There’s someone else for that.”
At those words, Gong-ryeong nodded. Crunch.
Gong-ryeong’s fist, which was crossed, clenched tightly, making a low noise.
He wasn’t asking because he didn’t know that obvious fact. He just wanted to hear anything to calm himself down, as he was starting to get a little impatient.
‘He’s not human.’
Looking at the Black King, who was sleeping so calmly, he was beyond dumbfounded. They were so on edge that the Black King had to forcibly induce sleep by directly pressing on their blood points [acupressure points] last night.
Even so, they felt like their hair was standing on end, but he was sleeping in this situation.
‘He must have a different caliber from the start.’
It suddenly occurred to him that perhaps this whole thing was just a small checkpoint for the Black King.
The world he was trying to obtain through this, the world he was trying to create, would be something they couldn’t even imagine. Perhaps they might even be able to see that sight with their own eyes.
‘I guess I’m not a big vessel after all.’
Seeing that his heart was not pounding with excitement but with increasing anxiety, he thought so.
That’s when it happened.
Bang.
The door opened, and Liu Yang came in. Then, he walked right up to the sleeping Black King and opened his mouth quietly.
“Report.”
“Hmm.”
The Black King opened his eyes and looked at Liu Yang.
“Yawn.”
The Black King stretched greatly and yawned.
“I didn’t sleep well.”
“It seems even the Black King is nervous.”
“I’m human too, so I would be.”
Hollow laughter escaped from Gong-ryeong and Baek Yeon-hong’s mouths. If that was the appearance of a nervous person, most humans would have already died from a nervous breakdown.
“I had an old dream.”
“Very old?”
“Very old…”
The Black King wore a subtle smile.
The time of the world and their time are different. It was not long ago in the time of this world, but it was a distant past in his time.
“Yes, very old. I had a dream from that time. The time when I first decided to start this.”
The Black King slowly rose.
Gong-ryeong momentarily held his breath.
Even though it was a simple action of getting up from a lying position, the Black King looked huge for a moment.
“What’s the report?”
“I have re-evaluated the external situation. As of now, there are no additional troop movements. I cannot be certain that there will be no attack, but… at least the most dangerous time we anticipated has passed.”
“That’s good news. Though it’s obvious.”
The Black King twisted his lips.
His gaze turned to everyone beyond Liu Yang.
“How is it? Good news, isn’t it?”
“Yes, Black King.”
“They won’t be able to move carelessly either.”
The Black King chuckled. After laughing for a while, the Black King naturally opened his mouth.
“Back then, I…”
As the Black King spoke, everyone looked at him.
“I was just a naive kid full of ambition but no power. Back then, I might have been filled with even more passion than I am now. But in the end, I couldn’t do anything and died.”
After his father died.
He did everything he could to overturn the world. No, he tried to.
But the end he faced was a miserable death. As it usually happens when someone without power has grand dreams.
“And even after being reborn in the Central Plains [ancient China], I didn’t stop. Changing the world wasn’t something that could only be done in the modern era. If you change the past, the future changes too. But…”
The Black King scratched his chin bitterly.
“In the end, the problem was a lack of power. I didn’t know that human would do things differently from what I thought. At least I thought he would consult me. Ha… what a friend.”
“…Why are you suddenly saying such things?”
“I’m lamenting, lamenting. I trusted him… what a bad guy.”
From the Black King’s perspective, it was not he who betrayed Kang Jin-ho, but rather Kang Jin-ho who betrayed him.
Who would have known that Kang Jin-ho, whom he believed would discuss and talk about everything, would suddenly do something crazy?
Of course, that was Kang Jin-ho’s own resistance to the times. He understood that well enough. The problem was that Kang Jin-ho’s direction and his direction were completely opposite.
‘If I had conquered the Central Plains and had a little more time, I could have reached an agreement with the other martial artists and overthrown the country with the power of the martial artists alone.’
If that had happened, the world would have been very different now.
But that, too, failed.
“The lesson I learned was simple. If it’s something you really want, you shouldn’t borrow the power of others, but do it yourself. So I gained power. Power that no one can surpass, power that makes no one dare to stop me!”
The Black King’s eyes held a different kind of heat than usual.
“I believe that everything in the world has a reason.”
“There must also be a reason why we experienced the past and returned to this world. We are the most desperate people. Those who could not overcome the absurdities of the world and took their own lives. If there is someone who made us experience the past and sent us back to this world… would what he wanted be ‘This world is much better than the past, so just live happily’?”
The Black King shook his head.
“That can’t be it. Absolutely not.”
Everyone nodded.
“We have returned here with the power to change the absurd. If we had to go through those things, there is only one reason. To correct this twisted world.”
The Black King’s voice resolutely pierced everyone’s ears.
“If we had to experience despair to find happiness, there would be no reason to return with power. Even if this is a favor from God to give us new happiness, I will refuse it.”
The Black King slowly rose from his seat.
“I will change the world. Even if I have to burn this body, I will not stop. No matter who tries to stop me, I will achieve it.”
There was no answer.
Everyone here had already staked their lives on the Black King’s will. They were people who had thrown everything they had to live in the new world that the Black King would open up.
“Don’t wish to be remembered.”
“Don’t try to receive a reward. Don’t try to leave your name in history. The world is changed not by those who receive praise in the spotlight, but by the hands of those who die in the dark. We are just trash of society anyway. So die like trash.”
A smile bloomed on everyone’s lips.
“Instead…”
The Black King slowly spread his hand.
“I will change it for you. The future of others.”
A quiet silence filled the basement.
Two days.
Yes, it’s two days now.
The senses that had been so sharp calmed down, and hope began to fill their hearts instead of anxiety.
That person will open it up.
Even if their plan doesn’t go as they thought, that person will definitely create the future he wants by any means.
Because the flow of the times is here.
And…
At that moment when everyone was once again determined by the Black King’s will.
Woo-woo-woo-woong!
Woo-woo-woo-woong!
The Black King’s phone, which was placed on the table, began to ring.
“…Hmm?”
The corners of the Black King’s mouth twisted strangely as he checked the name on the screen.
