Rat-tat-tat-tat-tat!
It was a nerve-wracking noise.
If the noise was this loud inside, one could only imagine how deafening it must be outside.
Normally, if one heard such a sound, they would either complain or move to a place where the noise couldn’t be heard.
But Kang Jin-ho couldn’t move.
Not just Kang Jin-ho, but no one in the world could. The only way to get out of a flying helicopter was to put on a parachute and jump.
But if that helicopter was flying over the open sea, even that method was limited. No matter how skilled a martial artist was, there was no way to survive falling into the open sea.
Especially in a sea without any special islands, one would have to swim hundreds of kilometers to reach the coast.
What if they made a slight mistake in their direction?
No matter how great a martial artist was, they wouldn’t be able to survive.
Kang Jin-ho let out a hollow laugh.
Wasn’t it ironic?
As a martial artist, Kang Jin-ho had always lived a life close to death. His battlefields were always filled with blood and death.
But perhaps this moment was the closest Kang Jin-ho had been to death since he had gained a new life. If this helicopter were to fall into the sea, he would truly be at a crossroads between life and death.
The fact was strangely amusing to Kang Jin-ho.
He looked up and saw familiar faces.
“We’re approaching.”
Kang Jin-ho nodded.
“I didn’t think you’d prepare a helicopter…”
“It’s not like I prepared it specifically. I just arranged it because it was necessary.”
Lee Hyun-soo said as if it was nothing.
“I’ve been thinking for a while that it would be good to have a helicopter available when we need rapid movement. In modern warfare, the most important things are information and mobility, no matter what.”
Kang Jin-ho scratched his head.
‘It’s something to praise, but…’
It felt a bit strange.
The inside of the helicopter was more spacious than he had thought. If all the chairs were folded, it looked like it could fit more than twenty people.
So, it was possible to carry that huge Bator without any problems.
It was a bit difficult to get through the entrance, but they had managed to board somehow.
The problem was, well…
“It’s bigger than I thought.”
“It’s a reconnaissance helicopter, but it also serves as a transport. So, it’s naturally spacious. The problem is that it guzzles fuel like crazy, but we should excuse that, shouldn’t we?”
“That’s right. But…”
Before Kang Jin-ho could speak, Bator cut him off.
“I thought we’d be riding something like a Chinook [a large, heavy-lift helicopter] when you said helicopter… What the hell is this! This colorful helicopter! It doesn’t fit the mood at all when we’re going to the battlefield!”
Lee Hyun-soo smiled wryly.
“Those kinds of helicopters all belong to the army or air force. Just approaching a passenger ship with a military aircraft could escalate into a diplomatic issue.”
“Diplomatic issue, what diplomatic issue! It’s not like we’re going to shoot missiles!”
“If a military helicopter is seen approaching a passenger ship and someone is seen getting off, things will get out of hand.”
“Who’s going to see that at this time of night?”
“Of course, I think so too. But…”
Lee Hyun-soo shrugged.
“What I’m worried about isn’t other witnesses, but rather them.”
“Them?”
“Yes. If there’s even one person over there who can think, they wouldn’t fail to consider that we could use the navy to block their path. Then, they would naturally have prepared countermeasures.”
“Tsk.”
Bator frowned.
“Then, we might not be able to send them back, but we’ll be framed as soldiers threatening civilians. It’s good for them, and the worst for us. Of course, it’s good to send them back and prevent the invasion, but it’s also a bit much to pass the burden onto the civilians and only save ourselves…”
“You seem to be very relaxed. To even consider such circumstances. People will die if those guys land in Korea, and you’re still thinking about all that?”
Bator was right.
If they could stop them, they should do whatever it takes. This was that dangerous.
“Actually, the navy didn’t cooperate.”
“That’s because of the reasons I just mentioned. I didn’t think it would work, but I still asked once… The result was as expected.”
“It’s ridiculous.”
Bator grumbled.
From his perspective, it would be ridiculous. Everyone knew who was on board. The high-ranking generals of the military knew that they were approaching, and even Japan might know that they were moving.
Yet, everyone had to play dumb.
A force several times more dangerous than Dong-soo’s special forces was moving, and they had to treat them as innocent civilians. It was ridiculous and absurd.
“How much longer?”
“We’re almost there.”
“I see.”
The atmosphere inside the helicopter wasn’t particularly tense. In fact, tension was also about the atmosphere, and what tension could there be in this noisy situation?
“Lord.”
At that moment, Wiggins quietly approached Kang Jin-ho.
“Hmm?”
“What are you planning to do with them?”
“I don’t know what you mean?”
Wiggins gave a subtle smile.
“Even if they are an invading force, their numbers are not small. Are you planning to kill them all?”
Of course, Wiggins didn’t think that Kang Jin-ho could kill them all. It was a matter of ability rather than will.
But he needed to confirm the direction.
Wiggins needed to know what Kang Jin-ho was aiming for to adjust accordingly.
‘It’ll probably be just pushing them back.’ That was the rational thing to do.
But Kang Jin-ho’s answer slightly deviated from Wiggins’ expectations.
“Why shouldn’t I?”
“…Lord?”
Wasn’t this the first time Wiggins had questioned Kang Jin-ho’s words like this?
That’s how much Wiggins was flustered right now.
“Wiggins.”
“Yes, Lord.”
“You seem to be mistaken, but we are currently being invaded.”
Kang Jin-ho said in a monotone voice.
“I have never heard of those being invaded showing mercy to those invading.”
“Of course, that’s true.”
“And my position has always been the same in any situation.”
Wiggins quietly listened to Kang Jin-ho’s words. It might seem like a trivial conversation, but this one sentence could determine the direction of the entire council.
“I have no intention of chasing those who run away. But I have no intention of letting those who attack me live.”
“Simple and clear.”
Wiggins smiled lightly.
‘He’s saying he’ll kill them all.’
Even if that wasn’t his intention, there was no way to run away in the middle of the open sea. Unless they lay down on the floor and begged for mercy, it didn’t sound much different from saying he would kill them all. Whether that was Kang Jin-ho’s true intention or not.
“We’re approaching.”
Lee Hyun-soo shouted urgently.
“Lee Hyun-soo.”
“Yes.”
Kang Jin-ho pointed to the cockpit with his chin.
“Take care of it.”
“You don’t have to worry. I’ll make sure of it.”
There was no one in the council who could fly a helicopter, so the people sitting in the cockpit were from the Coast Guard. It was a request to make sure that no unnecessary words leaked from them.
Kang Jin-ho got up from his seat.
“How do we get down when we arrive?”
“You can just go out through the door.”
They weren’t going to land?
“Please take this first.”
Lee Hyun-soo took something out from the side and brought it over.
‘A bag?’
“It’s a parachute.”
A parachute?
Kang Jin-ho looked at the bag Lee Hyun-soo handed him with a strange expression.
“Do you use a parachute from a helicopter?”
“Yes.”
“…Isn’t that something you use from an airplane?”
“You use it from helicopters too.”
“Really?”
“Yes.”
Kang Jin-ho nodded, seeing Lee Hyun-soo speaking as if it was obvious.
Well, I guess so. Lee Hyun-soo would know more about this than Kang Jin-ho.
“Just put on the parachute and descend. Normally, using a parachute when infiltrating a place like that would make you an easy target for snipers, but they don’t have guns over there, so it should be fine… Or do they have guns?”
Why are you asking me that, you idiot?
Kang Jin-ho looked dumbfounded, and Lee Hyun-soo scratched his head.
“I thought they wouldn’t have any, but when I think about it, the Japanese Yakuza sometimes use guns, so they might have some.”
Kang Jin-ho chuckled.
This guy was usually thorough, but he had a tendency to do strange things sometimes.
“It’s okay.”
“Yes?”
Kang Jin-ho pushed the parachute Lee Hyun-soo handed him back.
“It’s cumbersome.”
“B-but it’s very high up. It’s not something you can approach carelessly.”
“It’s okay.”
Kang Jin-ho turned his head.
The passenger ship could be seen in the distance through the small helicopter window.
“That’s it.”
“Yes.”
“Then it’s fine.”
Click.
Kang Jin-ho grabbed the door of the helicopter. Then he smiled lightly.
“Just get us close. We’ll take care of the rest.”
That smile looked so cool.
At times like this, there was no one more reliable than Kang Jin-ho. Lee Hyun-soo was once again realizing who he was serving…
Clunk, clunk, clunk.
A strange silence flowed.
“How do you open this?”
“…I’ll open it for you.”
Cool, my ass.
Lee Hyun-soo released the lock on the helicopter door and opened it. Then, a rough wind poured into the helicopter.
Lee Hyun-soo could see the passenger ship getting closer.
‘They must have noticed by now.’
What must they be feeling?
He thought that they were doing something quite cinematic on their side. But when he thought about it, wouldn’t the situation from the perspective of that passenger ship be much more dramatic?
‘It’s not a good thing.’
The word dramatic also meant reckless. If possible, he didn’t want to do such reckless things.
The reason he couldn’t stop them until the end was because Lee Hyun-soo also agreed with Kang Jin-ho’s words, ‘It’s annoying that those guys are stepping on Korean soil again.’
“I’m going.”
“A-already?”
The speed of the helicopter was faster than he had thought. He hadn’t realized it because they were flying over the open sea, but as soon as the ship, which served as a reference point for feeling the speed, appeared, they were approaching the ship in an instant.
“Lee Hyun-soo.”
“Yes, Lord.”
“I’m leaving the rest to you.”
“Yes!”
Before the answer could even finish, Kang Jin-ho threw himself out of the helicopter. Lee Hyun-soo bit his lip, watching Kang Jin-ho jump out without a moment’s hesitation.
It was somewhat solemn, and…
“Hey! Get out of the way!”
“Yes?”
“Ugh, the entrance! Damn entrance! Ugh!”
Bator was struggling, pushing his body into the narrow entrance. He was half-crawling out of the entrance that others could pass through standing up. As soon as his huge pectoral muscles passed through the door, Bator’s body fell straight down below the helicopter.
“Aaaaaaaah!”
Lee Hyun-soo sighed as he heard the scream.
‘Give me back my solemnity.’
You damn bastard.
