#3-2.
As always, Jae woke up before the King and gently unwound herself from her husband’s embrace. She drew her knees up to her chest, resting her chin on them.
She watched her sleeping husband for a long time, a soft smile gracing her lips.
“You’re getting more handsome every day,” she whispered.
Jae admired his steadfast and noble presence before lightly kissing his cheek.
Then, she slowly scooted backward, settling into a cross-legged position.
Jae, who had been focusing on controlling the flow of energy within her body, opened her eyes when she heard a noise from the King.
She looked at her husband, still sitting.
Jae tilted her head, a puzzled expression on her face.
“Are you… talking in your sleep?”
The only answer was a groan.
Jae narrowed her eyes and immediately examined the energy in the room.
As usual, the blue energy was overflowing around the King, and she chuckled softly.
“He must be dreaming.”
The reason Jae didn’t wake him immediately was that she didn’t sense any malevolent energy at all.
Thinking it was just a simple dream, she closed her eyes again and focused on her meditation.
However, it wasn’t long before Jae had to open her eyes again.
The King’s intermittent groans sounded painful.
*What kind of dream could he be having to make him like that?*
Jae eventually uncrossed her legs and approached her husband on her knees.
She placed her fingertips on his forehead.
Kang Jae was a skilled expert in manipulating energy.
She chose a completely different approach from the Knight Commander.
Instead of shaking the King awake, she began to subtly release her own energy, gently soothing him.
“Roderick, it’s okay. Think good thoughts. Everything will be alright.”
Jae focused on the shimmering energy while also gently touching various pressure points on his body.
The King’s breathing seemed to become more comfortable.
And as he seemed a little more stable, his eyelids fluttered, and his blue eyes flickered open and closed.
“Roderick.”
The King didn’t seem to understand what was happening.
Jae was about to offer a gentle morning greeting, asking, “Are you awake?”
However, the moment her face came into focus, he jumped up from his lying position.
Surprised, Jae leaned back, but the King frantically examined her body.
“Oh, what do I do?”
“Pardon?”
“A lion just ran at you!”
“What are you talking about?”
“Are you okay? Huh?”
Jae realized he was talking about a dream and burst into laughter, covering her mouth.
*What is this? Is it okay for a grown man to be this cute at dawn?*
However, he hugged her small body with a very relieved expression.
As if that wasn’t enough, he lifted her up and placed her on his lap, rubbing his cheek against her shoulder.
“Haa, I was so surprised, thinking you were hurt.”
“……”
“You have to hide behind me! What are you doing, running towards something charging at you!”
“I’m so sorry to hear that,” Jae retorted jokingly, but the King seemed genuinely distressed.
His heart was pounding.
Jae scratched her cheek, feeling a little embarrassed.
*You know you’re going to be very embarrassed when you’re fully awake, right? Of course, I’m going to pretend I didn’t hear anything.*
However, the King, who had been having similar dreams for the past few days, wasn’t embarrassed at all.
Rather, he was very serious.
He spoke because his wife was the only person he could truly confide in and ask for advice.
“Jae.”
“Yes.”
“Actually, I keep having the same dream these days. Why is this happening?”
Only then did Jae look at him with wide eyes.
It was normal for people to dream, but repeatedly having the same dream was unusual.
The King explained the dream to her, who had become serious alongside him.
A lion keeps entering the castle.
A huge lion that he had never seen, not even in the royal hunting grounds.
It rampages throughout the entire castle.
“But no matter how much I try to stop it, it keeps trying to get to you.”
Nodding, she pondered.
Jae had actually been more immersed in meditation than ever these days.
Because she felt a strange energy sprouting within her body.
And that energy was growing, little by little.
It was difficult to notice the subtle difference unless she concentrated.
Jae unconsciously touched her belly.
*It’s a conception dream [a dream that foretells a pregnancy].*
“Roderick, you know…”
“Yeah, it’s okay, so tell me anything.”
“I think a baby is coming.”
“Huh… huh?”
“Originally, when a new energy appears in the world, you sometimes have dreams like that. But did we have something like this here too?”
Jae asked as if she was also amazed, but the King acted as if his train of thought had derailed.
He scratched the end of his eyebrow, looking embarrassed.
Because it sounded so unbelievable.
But Roderick knew that if his wife said it, then it was true.
When that subtle conviction was in her face, it happened exactly as she said, one hundred times out of one hundred.
He trusted his wife’s words entirely, but even so, he had an unresolved question.
“Then… why does he keep biting his father?”
Jae’s eyes widened before she burst into laughter.
“Did he bite you? Hard?”
“Yeah. He bit me because I kept stopping him from going to you. Besides, every time I see him, he’s destroying everything in the castle. But actually, I… didn’t really want to do anything about it either.”
The King admitted honestly as his wife listened to the story with a beaming face.
“Actually, as I watched, other than that, it seemed like mischief, so it was cute. A house-sized thing doesn’t think about its own size and runs at you, though.”
“When a great person is born, you sometimes have such terrible dreams.”
“Isn’t that physique a little too big for a baby?”
After talking with his wife, the King felt much more at ease.
However, he couldn’t easily let her go from his arms because the shock of the huge beast running at his wife hadn’t faded.
That afternoon, the King and Jae immediately summoned a doctor to their room.
It was to get a medically certain diagnosis.
The doctor looked troubled after the examination.
“I’m sorry, but there are no signs of pregnancy.”
“Really? Is it because it’s too early?”
As Jae muttered, the doctor’s eyes widened as he understood the meaning of her words.
Because he realized that the Queen was questioning his diagnosis.
But the King went even further than the Queen.
“Jae. Is that person really a renowned doctor?”
“Your Majesty, even a renowned doctor can’t foresee what signs aren’t yet visible,” Jae whispered, but the King shook his head dismissively.
“Then he’s not a renowned doctor.”
“No, that’s the realm of the gods.”
The doctor couldn’t manage his expression at all.
*Why don’t both of you believe the doctor’s words?*
Both of them had a tendency to disregard the doctor’s prescriptions, except for external injuries.
The King looked at the doctor with sharp eyes and made a gesture with his palm around his mouth, signaling him to keep his mouth shut.
The doctor couldn’t shake off the feeling of being wronged.
Even if he wanted to spread rumors, he had to have something to say.
There were no signs of pregnancy in the Queen, but he couldn’t dare to contradict the King’s words, so he bowed and retreated.
The two people left in the room were silent for a while.
Although they didn’t get a definite answer from the doctor, the King felt like he was finally accepting it.
The corners of his lips were slightly raised without him realizing it.
The blue energy also overflowed, as if proving his good mood.
Jae just kept looking at the King.
Neither of them doubted for a moment that a child was coming.
“Roderick.”
“Yeah, why? My dear.”
The King replied in a softer tone than ever.
However, Jae seemed hesitant to speak.
She was worried if it was okay to say this to him in this situation.
But if it wasn’t now, she felt like she wouldn’t have a chance to honestly reveal her inner thoughts.
“It might sound strange to talk about this now, but I was actually scared.”
“……Of what?”
“Of the baby.”
“……”
“To be honest, I can’t say that I’m completely not scared even now.”
The King, who had been having simple thoughts like what she wanted to eat or what he could do to make her happy, was taken aback.
Because he thought she had been eagerly awaiting a child.
She had mentioned it a few times, so he thought she would be overjoyed, but his wife seemed to have other worries.
He scratched the end of his eyebrow, feeling very concerned, and asked.
“What exactly are you scared of?”
“There’s also the divine power. It can be inherited. Of course, that’s unavoidable, but…”
“Yeah, what else?”
“Um… I was wondering if I could be a good mother.”
“Is that too silly of a thought?”
Jae said with a slightly embarrassed smile, and the King pondered for a long time after hearing those words.
It was only natural for a child who had only resented their parents to worry and be anxious about whether they could do well or be okay when they tried to stand in that position.
That was something that anyone who had only received love would worry about, with only a difference in degree.
The King belatedly realized that he didn’t know his wife’s heart as well as he thought.
He actually thought that a good person like his wife could never be a bad parent. It would be much harder for a person to change completely.
But she was clearly feeling psychological pressure right now.
So, it didn’t seem necessary to say something like, ‘You will definitely be a good mother.’
Only a promise that he would take on more of that burden was needed.
“Jae. You don’t have to be that good. You have your husband. There are many people in the castle who can help.”
“Yes. That’s right.”
“I really only need you to be healthy, so you don’t have to make any other efforts, and let’s take it easy.”
“And I’m sorry for not understanding in advance.
I should have talked more. I didn’t want you to feel pressured by this issue either.”
He grabbed Jae’s hand and said, and she shook her head as if to say no.
Jae was rather embarrassed now.
Because she knew that there was no easy answer to such abstract worries.
She wondered if she had burdened him for no reason.
But she wanted to be honest with her husband to this extent.
She put one of her hands on her flat belly and made a belated joke.
“Roderick, it’s definitely here. I’m sorry to the doctor, but my gut feeling this time is never wrong.”
“…………”
“It’s okay. I’m a brave little bean.”
He stared silently at his wife, who was smiling happily even while revealing her inner thoughts with difficulty.
He quietly hugged her, feeling grateful and sorry for her calmness.
