Rembrary was dumbfounded. Was ‘that god’ referring to Redrin?
If so, did that make sense? He couldn’t even cross over to that world himself, but a god had crossed over here?
“Is that true?”
[I don’t joke about things like this.]
“…….”
[I’ll come to pick you up tonight. Let’s decide on a meeting place.]
After talking a bit more, Rembrary hung up the phone, feeling bewildered.
“What’s wrong?”
Woosungwoo, who was in the car, lowered the window and asked as Rembrary stood still, holding his phone.
“Nothing.”
Rembrary shook his head and got back into the passenger seat.
“Why? What’s with that expression?”
Woosungwoo asked again, looking worried at his serious expression. He seemed concerned that something had happened.
Rembrary shook his head.
“You should think about what you’re going to do from now on.”
“Looks like it’s a call you don’t want to talk about with me.”
* * *
Throughout the ride back to the dorm, Rembrary couldn’t shake off his worried expression. It wasn’t just his expression; he was genuinely worried because of the timing.
This place was a world with a deformed structure where saints were forcibly sacrificed to suppress monsters, and thanks to that, people were incredibly ignorant about gods, yokai [supernatural entities in Japanese folklore], and saints. If you talked about such things here, you’d be treated like a ridiculous eccentric.
But… everything had changed overnight. Suddenly, the whole world was filled with yokai, and videos of catching yokai were being uploaded to social media.
Redrin crossed over here at that time.
If so, wasn’t the increase in monsters here Redrin’s fault? If that were the case….
* * *
“Where do you keep wandering off to at times like this?”
As Rembrary returned to the dorm, Jongwoo, who had somehow already arrived, ran out to the entrance and asked. He must have received some word from Keshi.
“Let’s just stay quietly at home when things are like this, okay?”
Rembrary said seriously to Jongwoo, who was lamenting.
“Jongwoo, I’ll have to go away for a few days.”
“Me?”
“I will.”
Jongwoo was dumbfounded, watching Rembrary take off his shoes. He had barely scolded him for going out, and now he was saying he’d be gone for a few days?
“Where are you going?”
Even with the surroundings filled with man-eating frog eggs, at a time like this?
“No way.”
“Jongwoo.”
“It’s dangerous everywhere in the world right now. Your face is known, too. What if some chaos breaks out because of you, and you or someone else gets hit by a frog egg?”
“Jongwoo.”
When Rembrary suddenly called his name gently, Jongwoo flinched. What’s with him? What’s he plotting?
Rembrary immediately revealed what that plot was with a smile.
“Do you like frogs?”
“I hadn’t thought about it, but lately, not really. Why?”
“If you don’t let me go, I’ll bring frog eggs into the dorm and hatch them one by one.”
Keshi, who had been watching their conversation, screamed. Jongwoo also jumped in shock.
“Are you trying to kill us all?”
“I’ll go with Sungwoo, so don’t worry. It’ll be hard to find time once you get into the Hunter Survival show.”
Jongwoo frowned. He’s even going with his brother?
“Your brother. He’s suddenly become too famous to be going around playing, isn’t he?”
Rembrary wasn’t the only one worried that he might be surrounded by people and become dangerous. With another video of him catching monsters released, Woosungwoo was now receiving attention from the media and the public. Moreover, the people who were interested in Woosungwoo knew that he could deal with monsters. They might rush in without worrying about frog eggs, thinking they were safe.
Rembrary understood that point and changed his words.
“Then with Myeolchi.”
“……At least try to lie convincingly, you brat. Stick with one person.”
“Alright, then with Sungwoo.”
Jongwoo sighed. Wasn’t this guy scared like everyone else in this situation? He couldn’t understand what he was thinking at all.
* * *
Whether Jongwoo understood the situation or not, Rembrary went to the place he had arranged with Sagamjae in advance.
After waiting there for about 15 minutes, Sagamjae appeared. He thought he would come from the air, but surprisingly, he came by car.
“This place is a mess too.”
“Is the underworld like that too? At least the rifts here have disappeared.”
“You’ll find out when you go there yourself.”
He spoke seriously, but Sagamjae always had a pale face, so he didn’t look very serious on the outside. Sajikjae was also in the back seat and greeted Rembrary.
“Fake Saint, long time no see.”
“Let’s go.”
When Rembrary gave his permission, Sagamjae covered Rembrary’s head with his suit jacket as before.
After removing the jacket, the scenery around them had changed in the blink of an eye. A place covered in hazy mist. It was the entrance to the underworld. The wandering spirits staggering around there looked no different from before.
However, Rembrary recognized the rifts scattered here and there among the hazy mist.
“This way.”
Sagamjae led the way, and Rembrary calmly followed behind. How long had they walked like that?
‘It feels like we’re about to arrive soon.’
As he walked, recalling his previous experience, he finally saw the palace of Daeju in the distance.
Thinking, ‘It’s there,’ he walked on, but Rembrary sensed an unusual atmosphere. Even from a distance, he could see grim reapers gathered.
‘What’s going on?’
But Sagamjae had a nonchalant expression. He didn’t seem to find it strange.
Rembrary went over there. As he got closer, the grim reapers were gathered in one place, just as he had seen from afar. And what they were surrounding was….
‘Redrin!’
Rembrary stopped before he completely approached. He had already heard from Sagamjae that Redrin had come here. Seeing Redrin here in person was very surprising.
No, maybe it was because the grim reapers were surrounding Redrin and aiming their weapons at him.
Yomra was watching the scene from one place with sunken eyes.
But even in this situation, Redrin was nonchalantly fanning his face with his fan, and each time he did, his red hair swayed slightly. His eyes were curved from smiling, and his golden eyes were not easily visible.
“What on earth is going on?”
Rembrary asked Sagamjae, surprised by the unexpected situation. No matter how he looked at it, wasn’t this a scene where the grim reapers were threatening Redrin with their numbers? And Yomra was just letting it happen?
However, before an answer came, Rembrary felt a chilling sensation on his neck. Rembrary glanced down. Sagamjae was holding a weapon to his neck from his left side. Sajikjae was standing on his right side, also holding a weapon to his neck.
“What is going on?”
As Rembrary repeated the same question as before, but a different question, Sagamjae spoke without barely moving his lips.
“Please excuse us for a moment.”
He wanted to say, ‘If it’s an excusable action, don’t do it at all.’ But Sagamjae continued.
“Please surrender peacefully.”
However, this time, the words were not directed at Rembrary. They were directed at Redrin.
“If you don’t surrender, your favorite’s life will be in danger.”
Sajikjae, with a blank expression, sent a cold gaze to Redrin while his weapon was on Rembrary’s neck. He was taken aback by the word ‘favorite’ and quickly glanced at Sagamjae.
“Favorite?”
“It’s just stuck in my mouth from working as a manager,” Sagamjae replied nonchalantly. Sajikjae groaned.
“That guy always has to do that in the middle of something serious.”
However, Sagamjae was not at all embarrassed. Instead, with a stern and cautious expression, he looked at Redrin and Rembrary with his eyes.
Rembrary didn’t change his behavior, whether Sagamjae suddenly threatened him or not. He was just looking at Redrin with a slightly surprised but gentle gaze.
Redrin was the same. He was still smiling and fanning himself, quietly looking at Rembrary. Anyone who saw them would think they were people who had run into each other on a picnic.
In that state, Rembrary asked Sagamjae in a low voice.
“Redrin didn’t ask you to bring me here. You brought me here to threaten Redrin.”
“I’m sorry.”
“There’s no need to be sorry. You were doing your job.”
“…….”
“Instead, I will make sure I don’t have to be sorry either.”
The moment Sagamjae thought, ‘What does that mean?’ at Rembrary’s strange words, Redrin stopped fanning himself and reached out his hand towards Rembrary.
“Stop playing around and come here.”
It was an arrogant voice befitting his arrogant image. And the moment those words ended, Sagamjae was suddenly pushed back without even knowing what had happened. Sagamjae, who was pushed back as if swept away by a storm, barely managed to regain his balance.
Looking at it, Sajikjae was in a similar state. On the other hand, Rembrary, who was in the center, was standing still.
‘Did Wooyunwoo do it? Or the god from another world?’
The question was not resolved, but in the meantime, Rembrary put his hands behind his back and calmly approached Redrin.
The grim reapers hesitated and made way, wondering if they should go into battle mode.
Rembrary walked over and stopped right next to Redrin. Redrin, who had been quietly watching, smiled contentedly at Yomra when Rembrary came closer.
“Our kid seems to be the strongest.”
Yomra frowned but didn’t say anything to Rembrary.
However, his voice towards Redrin was colder than ever.
“Is using your precious ‘our kid’ to sneak into someone else’s world as a vanguard and cause a ruckus what you call doing things?”
‘Vanguard?’
Rembrary cast a questioning glance at Redrin upon hearing the strange word Yomra had uttered. Redrin chuckled softly.
“The vanguard is on the other side. Sending Rembrary here alone was not something I had planned either.”
Rembrary became even more puzzled at those words. So, there was a plan for other parts?
Then the face of Daeju came to mind. The one who did all sorts of suspicious things but said he wasn’t an enemy.
‘Could it be that guy…….’
At that moment.
“Don’t think about it,” Redrin said gently from the side.
“I’ll do the thinking. You just need to be by my side.”
Then, looking at Yomra, he opened his mouth in an even softer voice.
“King of this place. I’m going to try to become the god of this place.”
At those words, Yomra and the grim reapers buzzed with noise.
But the most surprised was Rembrary. This place?
Rembrary stared at Redrin with wide eyes. Did he just say ‘this place’?
Then what about his hometown? What about the world Redrin originally governed? What about the people there?
But it seemed that Rembrary was the only one here who cared about his original world. Yomra looked at Redrin with a terrifying gaze and asked.
“Do you know what you’re saying, god of another world?”
The polite tone he had been using changed drastically with Redrin’s declaration.
“You release strange things into a perfectly fine world. Then you tear through dimensions and come here to do what? Become a god? Who would accept that?”
But Redrin only laughed at those fierce words.
“King of this other world. Just because I speak quietly doesn’t mean you’ll accept it peacefully.”
