◈ 718. Now I Can Relax
Rembrary stared at Noir with disbelief.
Noir, one of the most notoriously ill-tempered demons, was defending him. He must have been possessed by something.
“Are you crazy?”
As soon as he asked, the protective glass subtly disappeared in one spot, and Rembrary was smacked in the forehead by the cold wind that passed through.
But Rembrary was relieved. Noir was definitely in his right mind, judging by that reaction.
“It’s you.”
“Don’t lump me in with weird stuff.”
Rembrary refocused on his original task, neatly healing Shin Jo-woon and Jang Tae-ri, then picked up the seal.
He didn’t know why Noir had changed his mind and suddenly wanted to help, but he couldn’t pass up the opportunity.
“Noir.”
“Don’t talk nonsense.”
“Protect these two.”
“Nonsense.”
“I entrust them to you.”
Rembrary grabbed and released Noir’s arm, carefully examining the seal.
The seal, with gray smoke swirling inside, was peaceful even in this situation.
Rembrary hadn’t had a proper explanation about the seal from Sagamjae because he had rushed in.
But he had a rough idea of how to use it.
‘If it was just a matter of throwing and breaking it, they wouldn’t have needed my help. It must be broken using divine power. The stronger the divine power, the better the effect when breaking it.’
Just as Rembrary made his decision and calmly took a step forward, he felt a presence beside him.
“!”
As soon as he felt the presence, Rembrary’s heart raced before he could even confirm it. There were only three people who could make a presence this close.
But Noir was next to him, within Rembrary’s sight. Then the one behind him was…
“I thought I was going to die from frustration!”
“You were already dead.”
It was Jang Tae-ri and Shin Jo-woon.
Rembrary’s nose tingled as he saw Jang Tae-ri, who was spitting out words first as if frustrated by the lack of communication, and Shin Jo-woon, who was rolling up his sleeves and fixing his torn clothes as soon as he got up.
“Mullet. Tae-ri.”
Rembrary muttered in a trembling voice.
“You guys—”
But there was no time to be moved any further.
“Hey. High Priest.”
Noir interrupted with a displeased voice.
“Aren’t you going soon?”
“I’m going.”
Rembrary nodded and, holding the seal, surrounded himself with divine power.
Then, as he approached the glass shield created by Noir, Noir made only that part of the shield disappear so Rembrary could pass through.
As he stepped out of the shield, the knife-like energy that had been constantly hitting the glass began to pour towards Rembrary again.
But before that energy could be blocked by Rembrary’s divine power and subside.
This time, it was first hit by a thin ice barrier, turning it into fine ice powder. It was Shin Jo-woon’s ice.
“Mullet! Tae-ri!”
Rembrary, looking back, widened his eyes as he discovered Jang Tae-ri and Shin Jo-woon approaching on either side of him.
“Why are you following?”
He was glad that they had followed safely, but since they were the ones who had already failed to withstand the attacks here and died once, Rembrary didn’t trust them at all and shouted.
Noir seemed to be willing to protect them if they stayed still, but he had no intention of protecting them if they moved on their own, so he sullenly walked towards the Demon King’s seal first.
Jang Tae-ri pointed to the Demon King’s seal with a look.
“You have to concentrate only on breaking the seal, right?”
“Tae-ri…”
It seemed that Jang Tae-ri and Shin Jo-woon were doing this because they had watched Rembrary get hurt by the knife-like energy here in his soul form, even with just a little loss of concentration.
Rembrary was about to say it was okay, but he flinched when he heard and felt the sound of a huge rock rolling under the ground.
Looking up, he saw the ceiling undulating like the surface of the sea swept by a strong wind.
Rembrary walked back to where the Demon King was sealed.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t the time to have a comfortable conversation. He had to solve the seal quickly before an explosion occurred.
“Follow me closely, Tae-ri. You too, Mullet. Don’t leave my side.”
Rembrary said that and moved his feet.
Even so, he couldn’t completely shake off his worries, so he held the Yama’s seal with only one hand, and with the remaining hand, he alternately touched Jang Tae-ri and Shin Jo-woon, healing their wounds in real-time in case they had occurred.
He was preparing in advance because he knew that Shin Jo-woon’s ice barrier couldn’t completely block the energy here.
“I wish I had an ability like a shield instead.”
In the meantime, Jang Tae-ri grumbled softly.
He seemed to regret that the fire he controlled was not very effective in defending against such intangible attacks.
“Tell me right away if you get hurt, Tae-ri.”
“I’m fine, so don’t tell me and concentrate.”
“I’m concentrating. I’m concentrating, but— it’s heavy.”
Rembrary looked ahead. He kept walking to end the seal quickly, but the sealed Demon King was still in front of him.
It was because the knife-like energy kept getting stronger, and Rembrary’s movement speed was significantly slowed down.
Because of that, even with the sealed Demon King in front of him, Rembrary’s speed was not as fast as when he first came here.
It was as if a huge gale was constantly pushing the group back, preventing them from walking forward.
Still, he trudged along and barely arrived near the sealed Demon King.
The moment Rembrary tried to put divine power into the seal, the ground shook greatly, and Rembrary lost his balance.
“!”
Jang Tae-ri and Shin Jo-woon almost simultaneously caught Rembrary, who was about to fall, but it only resulted in all three of them falling together.
“Ugh.”
Rembrary, who had been rolling around while receiving knife-like attacks from all directions, poured divine power into Jang Tae-ri and Shin Jo-woon again and raised his upper body.
In the meantime, someone must have been seriously injured again, as the thick smell of blood spread out.
However, the space continued to undulate, so there was no time to take care of them to see if they were okay.
“This won’t do.”
In the end, Rembrary decided to take special measures and shouted to Shin Jo-woon and Jang Tae-ri.
“Protect me by my side!”
Even during that time, the inside continued to change.
Now, it was so difficult to stand on two feet, let alone four, like the inside of a box that someone was forcefully crumpling and shaking.
“Hold on tight!”
As the knife-like wind was still blowing and the inside was shaking, Shin Jo-woon used ice to attach his legs to the floor and reached out to grab Jang Tae-ri and Rembrary.
Jang Tae-ri, just in case, scanned the surroundings using flames, and surprisingly, knowing that it was effective, he made a long, dragon-like flame roam around the group.
The shaking subsided a bit around where Jang Tae-ri’s dragon had passed.
In the meantime, instead of being swayed around, Rembrary calmly grabbed the seal given by Yama [the god of death in some Eastern religions] and tried to break it by pouring his divine power into it.
At first, it didn’t react, but as he continued to send divine power, cracks finally appeared in the seal that had been filled with gray clouds, and spider web-like patterns formed around the cracks.
‘It’s done!’
Almost at the same time as Rembrary threw it towards the sealed Demon King fragment, the black barrier surrounding the Demon King’s soul burst out.
Noir, who had been watching the situation sullenly, wondering whether to step in or not, also unfolded his arms and leaned forward this time, surprised.
Shin Jo-woon and Jang Tae-ri slowly recognized all the scenes as if time was flowing slowly.
Yama’s seal thrown by Rembrary and the Demon King’s seal that was bursting out were colliding in the air.
At this moment. The fate of the world was at stake.
Seeing the sealed Demon King trying to scatter like fog, Jang Tae-ri sent flames towards it without even scratching his head.
Rembrary also gave up defending and poured divine power towards it, trying to cover the black smoke that was bursting out.
The moment several kinds of power intertwined. A roar rang out, shaking all directions, and Rembrary flew away as if bounced.
Even while moving away, he could see a thin silver film trying to cover the black, round barrier.
With that scene as the last, Rembrary hit something with his back and fell down.
He seemed to have lost consciousness for a while then.
“…….”
When he opened his eyes, the flow of power that had been raging like knives and the surroundings that had been shaking recklessly as if crumpling the space had become peaceful.
Rembrary, who raised his body, first checked where the Demon King was sealed. The sealed Demon King’s soul was calmly under the two barriers.
‘It’s done!’
The seal was successfully completed. Rembrary was so excited that he shouted.
“It’s done, Mullet. It’s done, Tae-ri! Noir, look at that!”
Then, belatedly, Rembrary noticed that Jang Tae-ri and Shin Jo-woon were not visible.
‘No way!’
Did they die again? From that explosion just now? Rembrary was surprised and hurriedly looked around for them.
Since the Demon King was safely sealed, this time their souls might go out and follow Sagamjae.
Or they might have been swept away when the Demon King was sealed for the second time.
‘That can’t be.’
Then Rembrary finally found the bodies of the two.
Both of them had flown away separately, or like Rembrary, they were scattered and collapsed on their own.
Rembrary approached Jang Tae-ri, who was closer, and turned over his prostrate body.
Then, as he was about to put divine power into him, Jang Tae-ri fortunately opened his eyes and coughed on his own.
“Oh my. I really thought I was going to die.”
It was a safe voice.
“Tae-ri!”
“I’m fine. I keep coughing because I hit my back when I flew away earlier.”
Rembrary quickly put divine power into Jang Tae-ri’s back, then ran to Shin Jo-woon this time and rolled him over.
However, Shin Jo-woon even got up first before Rembrary turned him over.
“I’m fine.”
Shin Jo-woon, who had been unconscious until a while ago, got up calmly as if nothing had happened, and he really didn’t have a single wound on his body.
“Everyone is safe.”
Still, Rembrary muttered with emotion as he sent divine power. Things had continued to go wrong, but fortunately, he had prevented the explosion.
Now, the power around the sealed Demon King was also fine and peaceful, and the inside, which had been strangely changed, also looked like an ordinary cave.
“You? Are you okay?”
When Shin Jo-woon came and asked, Rembrary nodded quickly.
“Didn’t I tell you? I heal well on my own even if I get hurt.”
Rembrary then suppressed the nagging, ‘Coming in without any strength and both of you just end up dying!’
The nagging wouldn’t be too late to do later while eating pizza after the situation was completely finished.
“Now, let’s get out— Ah! Noir!”
Rembrary looked around.
“Where did Noir go?”
Noir was right next to the sealed Demon King. So he might have been more affected by the explosion.
He wasn’t an ally, but since he had received Noir’s help right before, Rembrary started looking for Noir, wandering around.
‘No way. Did he get sealed together?’
Just as a slightly uneasy thought soared. Rembrary found Noir leaning against the cave wall. Noir seemed to have injured his leg.
When Rembrary healed his leg, Noir looked at Rembrary with strange eyes, then coldly rebuked him for no reason and got up.
“You were really quick to find me. Did you forget about me altogether, High Priest?”
“I thought you had left first.”
Rembrary said that, kept a little distance from Noir, and then looked back at Jang Tae-ri and Shin Jo-woon and smiled.
“Now let’s go out!”
As they went back the way they came, the narrow path that only one person could pass through at a time reappeared. The three people and one demon walked in a row on that path.
Finally, as they completely escaped from that path, the reddish dawn sky greeted them.
Rembrary looked at the sky and took a deep breath of the dawn air and exhaled. As his mind became peaceful, a gentle smile naturally rose again.
Rembrary looked back at his friends and smiled proudly.
“Now I can go back with peace of mind.”
“!”
