◈ 741. Unable to Use Divine Power
Rembrary ran down the hallway in the direction the monster had gone.
But the monster was nowhere to be seen.
The many doors in the hallway were all slightly ajar, suggesting the monster might have slipped into one of them.
‘Redrin, Redrin. Rembrary will save the priest who serves Redrin.’
Rembrary loudly declared his intention to Redrin, hoping to inspire trust, and then cautiously continued down the hallway. However, even after reaching the end, there was no sign of the monster.
This time, Rembrary went up the stairs. As he passed, the perfectly fine lamps swayed wildly.
But even after walking the entire length of the second-floor hallway, the monster was still nowhere to be seen.
Considering the monster’s enormous head, it was safe to assume it was no longer in the hallway.
‘It wouldn’t be able to run with that head.’
Could it be hiding behind one of the many open doors? Rembrary looked back at the straight hallway he had just traversed.
The slightly ajar doors were swaying erratically.
Rembrary opened the nearest door. He saw the inside of a room that resembled his own quarters.
But inside were other people’s belongings.
He closed the door properly, but as soon as Rembrary let go, the closed door rattled and opened again.
Rembrary slapped the door once and then moved to the next one. That room was also an ordinary room with other people’s belongings.
Rembrary opened the next door, meticulously checking each and every one in the hallway.
“Hey, kid.”
Someone touched Rembrary’s shoulder. He quickly turned his head and saw the silver hair he had noticed on the palace roof.
That silver hair also belonged to the person who had intervened when people were saying bad things about Rembrary’s singing.
The Inquisitor had described the people the silver-haired individual had attacked as ‘attacked by demons.’
“Are you a demon? Is it okay for you to be here?”
Rembrary asked in a small voice. The silver-haired person smiled and looked down at the lower floor through the window.
He leaned down again, made eye contact with Rembrary, and urged him.
“Get out of here quickly. Stay with the other priests.”
“Why?”
“There’s something strange in here.”
“What is it?”
“Someone deliberately removed the charm and released the monster.”
“Why?”
The silver-haired person grabbed Rembrary’s hand and walked towards the stairs.
“Go down quickly. I can’t stay here long.”
Rembrary inadvertently took a few steps down the stairs and then looked back.
The silver-haired person had disappeared, and only moonlight was shining diagonally through the window, even though it was broad daylight.
He was curious and tried to reach out his hand, but someone was running loudly up the hallway above. Rembrary withdrew his hand and looked up.
“Priest?”
Rembrary called out to the old priest who was above him in the hallway. Rembrary began to cautiously climb back up the stairs he had come down.
“Silver Hair?”
There was no one in the hallway. Rembrary pondered for a moment whether he should leave as the silver-haired person had suggested.
‘No, I can’t. I have to find the priest grandpa and leave. Right? Priest grandpa was sweating so much because he was scared.’
But Rembrary knew that even though the old priest was so scared that he sweated like that, he had left Rembrary and Raidal behind in a dangerous moment and had been dragged away alone.
Not everyone was as brave as Rembrary. That grandpa might be crying from fear right now.
Rembrary really wanted to save that old priest.
At that moment, he noticed the rose petal that Redrin had given him as a farewell lying in the hallway.
Rembrary approached and picked up the fallen petal.
The moment he bent down and straightened up, Rembrary found that his surroundings had transformed into a completely different world.
Everywhere was covered in cobwebs, and the bright walls and floors were black in places, as if they had been rubbed with ashes.
Several people were lying in the hallway. Rembrary found that one of them was the old priest.
“Priest!”
Rembrary quickly ran towards him. As soon as he lifted his head, the old priest slowly opened his eyes.
“Oh, my neck is going to break, little priest.”
The old priest chuckled even in this situation.
“Get up.”
As Rembrary continued to pull the old priest, the old priest fumbled around, touched the ground, and stood up.
“Did the little priest come to save me?”
The old priest asked in an emotional voice. Rembrary handed the petal he was holding to the old priest.
“Hold this.”
“What is it?”
As soon as he received the petal, the old priest’s figure disappeared in an instant.
“!”
Rembrary looked around in dismay. The surroundings were still not the original hallway but a hallway full of cobwebs. Only the old priest had disappeared.
It seemed that by handing over the petal, Rembrary had stayed in this strange space and only sent the old priest out.
‘Redrin, Redrin, please give me one more petal!’
Rembrary shouted inwardly. Then he thought that this was not the time for this and activated the halo on his head.
Cherub had said that Rembrary’s halo had the effect of repelling monsters.
If this space full of cobwebs was a space created by a monster, then this halo would be effective.
‘It works!’
Indeed, as Rembrary’s halo spread in all directions, the white, smooth original stone returned to the parts that had been covered in cobwebs.
Rembrary walked around, making sure that there was no place where the halo did not reach.
After confirming that sunlight was reaching everywhere, he deactivated the halo, and here and there in the hallway, where no one had been, unconscious people appeared sporadically.
“Did you do this?”
Some of the priests were conscious, and after staring blankly at Rembrary, they asked him when their eyes met.
“You’re really amazing.”
“Are you Rembrary?”
Some of the priests even knew Rembrary’s name.
“Get out of here quickly.”
Rembrary was pleased and pulled on the arms of the fallen people.
“Strangely, I feel stronger when you support me.”
The person Rembrary helped up said something strange.
The people who got up first took care of and supported the unconscious people.
Rembrary stood next to the second-floor stairs until the very end, helping people down.
As the last person went down, Rembrary finally stepped down.
However, before he could even put his foot on the stairs, a great pressure seemed to fly from an invisible place, and Rembrary’s body flew away.
Rembrary hit the wall and rolled on the floor.
After rolling around, he jumped up and saw a person wearing a black robe standing where Rembrary had been standing.
The person had covered half of their face with the hood of the robe, so only their neat lips were visible, and it was impossible to tell who they were.
“So you’re Prince Rembrary.”
The person spoke as if they knew him. Rembrary did not answer, but the person seemed to already know who Rembrary was.
“I have no ill will towards you. It won’t hurt either. I’m just blocking your divine power.”
The person in the black robe muttered and raised one hand.
Rembrary sensed that an unusual energy was gathering under that person’s hand.
It was not visible, but a distinct feeling opposite to the clear energy emanating from the priests was clearly felt.
The robed person held out their hand towards Rembrary. Something flew quickly towards Rembrary.
At that moment, someone hugged Rembrary and rolled. The surroundings spun quickly, and Rembrary hit his head against something like metal.
The moment the spinning stopped, the person who had hugged Rembrary stood up in the blink of an eye and shot an arrow at the black robe.
The black robe disappeared as if it had been an illusion from the beginning.
Rembrary recognized that the person who had hugged him and rolled was Paladin Cherub.
“Sir Cherub!”
When Rembrary called out, Cherub adjusted the bow that had slipped halfway down his shoulder and asked.
“Are you okay?”
“Did you come to save me?”
“You shouldn’t go into dangerous places alone.”
Cherub said sternly and then lifted Rembrary up. Rembrary rested his chin on Cherub’s shoulder and looked at the place where the disappeared person had been standing.
There was something like ash left on the sword there. Was that person an illusion?
As he was carried out of the dormitory by Cherub, Heather ran over.
“Rembrary! You troublemaker!”
As soon as Cherub put Rembrary down, Heather lightly slapped Rembrary’s palm.
“You little rascal! What do you think you’re doing, going in there alone!”
“It was the dormitory, Priest.”
“Who’s asking because they don’t know?!”
Rembrary wanted to tell Heather about the person in the black robe, but there were too many people around.
Rembrary was about to talk to Heather, but other people approached Rembrary and started talking to him.
“Rembrary saved us, Heather.”
“Rembrary is definitely a child blessed by Redrin.”
“When Rembrary turned on his halo, the strangely changed background returned to normal.”
Among the people who approached was the old priest.
“The little priest gave me a lot of help.”
The old priest smiled, stroking Rembrary’s hair.
Rembrary forgot about the black robe and nodded contentedly.
Rembrary followed Heather to the infirmary and received treatment for his scraped palms and knees.
While the doctor was spraying disinfectant and applying ointment, Rembrary belatedly asked.
“Where’s Raidal?”
“He’s in the conference room with the other trainee priests.”
“Conference room?”
“Everyone ran out quickly after hearing about the commotion. The children were so surprised that they scattered, so it was hard to gather them all.”
“Everyone is giving the priest a hard time.”
“You troublemaker. It took the longest time to find you.”
Heather was smiling, but her eyes were dark.
She had no idea that the Great Temple would be attacked as soon as she mentioned that the movements of the black magicians and monsters were unusual.
The enemies did not enter the main building of the Great Temple but committed the outrageous act of attacking the lodgings used by the guests.
Even though the previous high priests had taken measures to prevent monsters from invading the lodgings, unusual things might continue to happen in the future.
“Heather?”
When Rembrary called Heather, Heather forced a smile.
“Still, our Rembrary is really amazing. Did you jump inside to save the old priest?”
“Yes. I’m glad the old priest is safe.”
Heather kept stroking the child’s curly hair, blaming herself for judging that this child would not have the qualities of a high priest.
The child was not as smart as Raidal and did not seem enthusiastic about temple life, but he was brave and had a heart to protect others.
“Everyone is saying you’re very cool.”
Heather sincerely praised Rembrary, who was looking around at the bandages on his hands.
“I was trying to hide how great I am, but everyone found out.”
When Rembrary sighed and muttered, Heather and the doctor burst into laughter.
But just as Rembrary’s treatment was almost finished, Cherub came into the infirmary.
“I’ll come again.”
Cherub looked at Rembrary and then tried to turn around and leave.
“Ah, it’s all done! It’s okay!”
The doctor shouted, pushing the bandages aside. Still, the doctor’s assistant forcibly brought back Cherub, who was trying to leave.
Rembrary smiled contentedly, remembering that Cherub had come to save him.
“Sir Cherub and I were the coolest today.”
Cherub awkwardly smiled at the child’s words as he waved his arms.
“Rembrary, would you like to stay here with Sir Cherub? Sir Cherub, would you mind looking after Rembrary?”
Heather was relieved to see Rembrary getting along well with Cherub, so she stood up and asked.
“Where are you going, Heather?”
“I have to bring Raidal too.”
Heather left to call Raidal, leaving Rembrary to talk more with Cherub.
The doctor examined Cherub, and Rembrary chattered from across the room.
“Just a moment.”
Then Rembrary was signaled by the doctor to be quiet and closed his mouth.
Wondering what was going on, he kept his mouth shut, and then the doctor said to Cherub.
“Sir Cherub, what brings you here? There’s nothing wrong with your body. The places you were hurt before have also been completely healed.”
At the doctor’s words, Rembrary was relieved and played with Cherub’s bow.
Cherub couldn’t answer right away and looked at Rembrary.
“Sir Cherub?”
When the doctor urged him, Cherub reluctantly confessed.
“I was hit by something from a black magician inside… and after that, I can’t use divine power.”
“!”
