◈ 765. Having Conviction
‘Is that it?’
Rembrary, having finally pinpointed the difference, placed his hand on the Inquisitor’s face.
‘What are you doing?’
‘Please be quiet.’
Rembrary politely asked the Inquisitor, who kept interrupting, and earnestly focused on healing him.
The Inquisitor remained still, sensing the child was doing something.
In truth, he had no choice but to stay still, as his limbs were all bandaged.
A moment later, Rembrary’s eyes widened. The wounds on the Inquisitor’s face were disappearing, one by one.
‘Why are you doing that?’
The Inquisitor, seeing his expression, couldn’t help but ask. He was curious about why the child stared at his face with such wide eyes.
‘Your Eminence’s face…’
‘It’s rude to be so surprised by my face.’
‘Your Eminence’s face is getting better!’
Rembrary removed his hand from the Inquisitor’s face.
The Inquisitor couldn’t see a mirror or lift a hand mirror, so he didn’t understand the child’s words.
‘My face is getting better?’
Rembrary touched the Inquisitor’s arm.
‘What are you doing?’
The Inquisitor asked again, but Rembrary only gestured for him to be quiet this time as well.
‘…….’
Rembrary placed his hand on the Inquisitor’s other arm and finally stood up with a satisfied look.
‘Just a moment.’
Rembrary looked around the room and took a mirror from the wall.
‘Careful. Be careful.’
The Inquisitor repeatedly urged, worried that the child might drop the large mirror on his head or feet as he staggered closer.
‘Here.’
Rembrary placed the mirror so the Inquisitor could see his reflection.
‘Look at it.’
‘Isn’t it too close?’
‘It’s heavy.’
The Inquisitor awkwardly smiled and looked at the mirror. He could see his reflection anyway. He didn’t know why he was being told to look at it, though.
‘Why did you tell me to look at this?’
However, the Inquisitor didn’t notice any significant difference in the mirror. The person in the mirror was still him.
‘Look at your skin.’
Rembrary said, holding the edge of the mirror. The front of the mirror became foggy as the Inquisitor sighed.
While watching the fog on the mirror disappear, the Inquisitor belatedly exclaimed, ‘Oh!’
He finally realized what the child was talking about.
‘My face? My face?’
The Inquisitor muttered and looked at the child.
‘Is it all healed?’
Rembrary smiled proudly.
‘Can you put the mirror down next to me?’
Rembrary put the mirror down next to him, and the Inquisitor raised his arm and asked, ‘Smarty, can you undo these bandages too?’
‘Of course.’
Rembrary exclaimed cheerfully and found scissors in a drawer.
As soon as he saw the scissors, the Inquisitor felt uneasy, wondering if such a dangerous weapon should be in the hands of a young child.
However, he believed in the child’s intelligence and swallowed his rising anxiety.
Rembrary carefully cut the end of the bandage and easily unwound it.
‘Thank you.’
The Inquisitor, having found freedom in one hand, expressed his relief. The expression on his face soon changed subtly as he looked at his arm. His arm was as clean as his face.
The doctor who had treated his arm said that there was little chance he would be able to use his arm naturally and comfortably as before.
He also said that he wouldn’t be able to put any strength in his hand.
The carriage had crashed and shattered as it rolled down the cliff. Being inside, the Inquisitor couldn’t possibly be unscathed.
When he didn’t take anesthesia, he often woke up in the middle of the night due to severe pain in his arms and legs.
But now, there was no pain in his arm at all.
The Inquisitor moved his fingers one by one and repeatedly bent and straightened his arm.
‘How is it?’
Rembrary crouched by the bedside and asked.
‘You… you’re a truly amazing child.’
The Inquisitor sincerely admired.
‘It doesn’t hurt at all. It’s not just that the wounds are gone. It’s completely healed.’
‘Right?’
Rembrary smiled brightly. The Inquisitor unwound the other bandage himself. That hand also had no wounds at all.
In the meantime, Rembrary treated the Inquisitor’s legs and abdomen as well.
‘I think I’ve completely recovered.’
The Inquisitor unwound the leg bandages and got up.
He walked back and forth in the hospital room a few times and was convinced that he had fully recovered.
The Inquisitor effortlessly lifted the mirror that Rembrary had removed and hung it back on the wall. There was no strain on his body even when he exerted strength.
‘I think I’m really amazing,’ Rembrary muttered proudly.
‘You are,’ the Inquisitor sincerely agreed. In fact, he was feeling awe towards this young child.
There were rumors about Rembrary being an ominous prince and that Redrin favored him.
People paid more attention to the bad rumors when good and bad stories were mixed together.
Although it had decreased a lot now, Rembrary was still more often labeled as an ominous prince.
But now it seemed that was completely false.
‘You will become a truly great person.’
‘Really?’
‘No, you are already a great person.’
Rembrary was pleased and showed off his halo.
‘I can do this too.’
‘That’s really amazing.’
‘Look at this too. Redrin gave it to me.’
Rembrary also took out and showed the feather.
‘Yes, that’s really amazing.’
The Inquisitor showered him with compliments.
Rembrary was excited and wondered if there was anything else he wanted to brag about.
‘But did you really come alone?’
The Inquisitor asked, looking to see if there was anything to eat in the cupboard. He wanted to give the child a snack, but he had only been eating the food from the clinic, so the cupboard was empty.
‘Yes.’
‘How?’
‘By walking.’
‘You walked here?!’
‘Yes.’
‘Did the adults allow it?’
‘I came without telling them.’
The Inquisitor stopped praising at Rembrary’s confident answer. His expression crumbled like a rotten cookie.
‘What?’
* * *
‘Seditor-nim [formal title, similar to ‘Sir’ or ‘Lord’]? Oh my god. Seditor-nim?’
As Rembrary went outside with the Inquisitor, the doctor who was approaching was horrified and took a step back.
‘Seditor-nim… you’re walking?!’
The doctor couldn’t help but shout as he saw Seditor standing firmly.
The passing assistants stopped and looked over.
Rembrary didn’t say that he had healed him, as Seditor had instructed.
However, seeing the doctor so surprised, his chin kept lifting up.
‘Thanks to Redrin’s blessing, my body has become much better.’
As Seditor pretended to pray, the doctor and assistants followed suit in a daze. Their eyes were filled with admiration, like those of believers who had witnessed a miracle.
‘Redrin-nim has given you… a lot of blessings.’
The doctor muttered blankly. The doctor immediately recalled saying to Seditor just a few hours ago that he would no longer be able to use his limbs properly.
‘That’s right,’ Seditor agreed and asked the doctor, ‘Could you please get me some clothes to change into and a carriage to ride to the temple? And a coachman and horses too.’
‘Of course. But would it be okay to examine you once?’
While the assistant went to buy clothes and borrow a carriage, the doctor carefully examined Seditor.
‘Your heart sounds good, your muscle reactions are proper, and you have proper strength in your legs and arms. It’s really amazing.’
The doctor muttered, finding it even harder to believe after the examination.
Rembrary smiled contentedly. Now that he knew he had the ability to heal, he could also fix Cheru. Rembrary wanted to heal Cheru quickly.
Then Rembrary spotted the back of someone’s head passing below the window.
‘What is it?’
Someone seemed to be crouching down and sneaking past below the window.
The doctor was talking to Seditor, so Rembrary had no one to talk to. Rembrary walked to the window and stood on tiptoe.
‘It’s gone?’
But no one was visible outside the window.
* * *
The owner of the back of the head that Rembrary saw had already arrived next to the clinic.
That person was the one who had been attacked after spreading rumors that Rembrary was an ominous prince.
When Rembrary appeared alone at the gate, he glared at him, and then, wondering what was going on, he followed him in a carriage.
That person didn’t know why Rembrary had visited the clinic alone.
But he knew that when the child was alone, it was an opportunity to take revenge.
That person harbored anger towards the child and the temple.
It was because he had been attacked and put in danger for not making up stories, but for exaggerating existing ones.
But he couldn’t retaliate against the child who lived locked up in the temple, so even after recovering, this person always resented Rembrary with resentment.
But now that the opportunity had come, he intended to seize it.
When there were no people around, that person took a piece of candle from his pocket and rubbed it wildly on the stairs.
He felt that if the child slipped and fell while coming down the stairs, his frustration would be somewhat relieved.
These stairs were not very high, and it was in front of the clinic, so even if he fell, he wouldn’t be seriously injured. There was no need to worry that things would escalate.
* * *
Rembrary didn’t know that someone was trying to harm him.
‘I have secured a carriage.’
Rembrary was quietly next to Seditor when the doctor’s assistant approached, and he went to the clinic’s entrance with Seditor.
Rembrary opened the front door, waved to the doctor, and went down the stairs.
He thought the floor was a bit slippery, but the palace banquet hall was even more slippery, so Rembrary walked without a care.
‘Damn it!’
Then Rembrary heard someone shouting not far away.
When he looked up, a person who had only his head sticking out next to the building was running away urgently.
‘What is it?’
As he was watching him because his actions were suspicious, the Inquisitor came up grumbling.
‘The floor is a bit slippery, isn’t it? But why are you doing that? Do you know someone?’
‘Someone said, “Damn it,” and ran away.’
‘Which way?’
‘That way.’
As soon as the Inquisitor heard Rembrary’s words, he ran right away without even asking what was going on.
He, who was in the business of catching people, didn’t waste time on this.
Rembrary stood there blankly, not knowing what was going on.
The coachman who had been waiting in front watched the situation, got off the driver’s seat, rubbed the stairs with his hand, and said.
‘Someone has put candle wax on here.’
‘What is that?’
‘It makes it slippery. They’ve done a very nasty thing.’
The coachman clicked his tongue, and the assistant who had come out to see them off jumped up and went inside.
The assistant quickly brought a mop and bucket and scrubbed the stairs.
A moment later, the Inquisitor appeared, grabbing a stranger by the neck.
‘Rembrary, is this the person?’
The Inquisitor shook the stranger and asked.
‘That’s right. He was hiding there and suddenly ran away.’
As Rembrary spoke, the stranger shouted in an aggrieved voice, ‘I didn’t do anything!’
The Inquisitor gripped the person’s hand tightly and smiled once. Then he slammed the person to the ground.
‘You bastard!’
The Inquisitor spat out a short curse and said to the assistant, ‘Report and hand over the person who put candle wax on the stairs.’
‘Yes!’
The assistant, who was angry, quickly answered.
If people were to get hurt in front of the clinic because of that bastard, they would have to take responsibility.
They were naturally going to hand over the unknown person who had done such a bad thing in front of someone else’s clinic to the investigators.
‘We wasted time because of a strange person.’
Seditor clicked his tongue and took Rembrary into the carriage.
‘Let’s go to the Florandia Temple.’
