◈ 847. Making a Name
Jeremi, having regained consciousness, thrashed and began pulling Rembrary towards the deeper part of the lake.
While Rembrary wasn’t dragged down, it became difficult to pull Jeremi out.
‘Could something be about to happen in the lake?’ Rembrary wondered, pointing to the massive jewel embedded in the wall.
Jeremi turned his head in that direction, seemingly aware.
Rembrary pulled Jeremi again, mouthing the word ‘explode’.
However, Jeremi shouted something and struggled even more, seemingly hating the idea of Rembrary living more than his own death.
Rembrary decided he had no choice and simply used divine power to put Jeremi to sleep.
‘I should have done this sooner.’
With Jeremi limp, it was much easier to bring him out.
“Rembrary!”
The secretary priest rushed over as soon as Rembrary emerged from the lake, gasping for air.
Rembrary handed Jeremi’s hand to the secretary priest.
“Huh? Whose hand is this?”
The secretary priest instinctively took the hand and pulled, then recognized Jeremi, and his expression hardened.
“Isn’t this Duke Laderun’s son?”
“Yes.”
Rembrary went out of the lake alone and took off his shoes to drain the water.
The paladins did their best not to say, ‘We should have just left him there.’
Rembrary looked at the mercenaries tied up in one corner. It seemed the paladins had won the fight.
However, the black magician was nowhere to be seen.
‘Did he know the summoning circle magic stone would explode and run away?’
“What about the captured priests?”
“They’re waking up one by one.”
The secretary priest pointed to those sitting against the wall, drinking water. Counting them, Rembrary urgently said to the secretary priest.
“Then we have to run away.”
The secretary priest covered a child with his coat and asked.
“Run away?”
“There’s a summoning stone under the lake. It’s going to explode.”
“What? Really?”
The secretary priest widened his eyes and looked at the highest priest.
“The entire cave was a summoning circle. It wasn’t just a place to gather them.”
The highest priest, who had already sensed something was wrong and was looking around, immediately believed Rembrary and shouted.
“Everyone, let’s get out! It’s going to explode!”
The paladins and priests, who were checking to see if anyone else was captured, rushed over.
“Is it true?”
“He says we need to hurry. There’s no time to lose.”
Rembrary quickly chimed in, and the paladins hurriedly supported the fallen mercenaries.
The kidnapped priests staggered, but all but two or three could walk on their own.
The priests and paladins began to walk quickly back the way they had come.
However, even getting out of the cave was a problem. This place was on the mountainside, even if it was low.
“Let’s pick up the pace!”
The highest priest shouted loudly.
As they ran down, one of the paladins, who had stopped to count the number of people, turned pale.
“Rembrary is missing!”
Those who were running stopped at the same time. They all looked at the paladin.
“Rembrary is missing?”
“Where did he go?”
The paladin didn’t know. He had just noticed while checking the number of people.
The paladin looked at the highest priest.
“Where could he have gone?”
The highest priest’s eyes widened as he looked back the way they had come.
‘No way……!’
* * *
His hunch was right on the mark.
Rembrary was in the lake. More specifically, he was in the lake, facing the magic stone.
[Rembrary. Get out of here quickly!]
The other god, whom Redrin called ‘Lumena,’ urged Rembrary. But Rembrary didn’t listen.
‘But if it explodes, the people below the mountain will die.’
[Hey, Redrin! That kid is talking to me too!]
[Rembrary.]
This time, Redrin’s gentle voice was heard.
‘Yes. Redrin. How do I stop this?’
[Rembrary. Come out first.]
But Rembrary didn’t listen this time either.
‘Redrin, how do I stop this?’
[Good boy. My child, don’t be stubborn.]
‘If I can’t stop the explosion anyway, there will be a landslide. If a landslide occurs, everyone going down the mountain now will be buried before the village is buried.’
[That stubborn thing……!]
The gentle tone disappeared from Redrin’s voice.
Rembrary still tried hard to think while examining the magic stone.
[Rembrary. Be good. Get out of here.]
Redrin tried to persuade him again, but it was no use.
‘I’m a priest. I will protect Redrin’s world.’
[I know, so come out.]
The fish gathered around Rembrary again. Unlike their ferocious appearance, they didn’t attack.
‘Redrin! Tell me!’
[Stopping a triggered demon summoning circle is something even a high priest has to risk their life for. You can’t stop it just by being here, and you’ll only lose your life.]
Perhaps because Rembrary kept insisting, Redrin’s voice turned cold for the first time.
‘Redrin, you’re so narrow-minded.’
Rembrary grumbled and gathered divine power in his hand, bringing it to the magic stone.
Lumena nudged Redrin.
Normally, she would have found it amusing that Redrin was at the mercy of a young human child, but this was not a laughing matter.
However, if Redrin revealed himself here, not only would a landslide occur in the village, but the entire area would be devastated.
As Rembrary’s hand, filled with divine power, touched the magic stone, the strange flow inside the jewel instantly expanded and seemed ready to explode.
Lumena couldn’t bear to watch and covered her eyes with her hand.
But the explosion didn’t happen. Just before the explosion, someone placed their hand on top of Rembrary’s hand.
Rembrary realized that someone was standing behind him.
“Good. You’re doing well.”
A low voice was heard from above his head.
Then, the strange flow of power coming from the summoning stone began to flow in one direction from under his hand.
Rembrary realized that the person behind him was controlling the flow of power.
As the other person moved the strange power in a very complex way, Rembrary followed behind him, sending divine power.
It became clear that the bubbling power rising from the jewel was gradually disappearing.
The power that had risen like bubbles shattered and began to scatter into the lake in pieces.
When all the bubbles surrounding the jewel disappeared, a diagonal crack appeared in the very center of the jewel.
The hand on Rembrary’s hand slowly moved back. He felt a huge presence disappear.
Rembrary turned his head, but there was no one behind him.
Even the fish that had surrounded him were gone.
‘Redrin?’
* * *
Rembrary came out of the lake and took off his shoes to drain the water.
“Rembrary!”
But someone was calling his name again not far away.
When he turned his head, the highest priest and the secretary priest were running towards him.
“Didn’t you go down?”
Rembrary asked, bewildered, and the secretary priest’s expression turned fierce.
“How could we leave when you didn’t come!”
“Why did you go down to the lake again?”
The highest priest also asked with a slightly angry expression.
“Let’s go down first.”
The secretary priest simply picked up Rembrary.
Then the two quickly left the cave.
“There won’t be an explosion.”
Rembrary was comfortable and moved while being carried, and then he spoke as soon as he came out of the cave.
“What?”
The secretary priest couldn’t understand because he was running so fast.
“There won’t be an explosion. I stopped it.”
Rembrary explained again and held out the piece of summoning stone he had brought from his pocket.
The secretary priest almost dropped Rembrary as he stopped urgently.
“What are you talking about? You stopped the explosion?”
The highest priest asked in a flustered voice, taking the summoning stone.
Rembrary couldn’t answer. It was because the priests and paladins were rushing in.
“What are you doing? We need to go down quickly!”
The paladin shouted at the secretary priest and picked up Rembrary again.
Perhaps to prepare for the worst, the highest priest didn’t stop him, so Rembrary stayed still.
Only after coming down the mountain did the highest priest bring up Rembrary’s story again.
“Wait a minute. Rembrary says he stopped the explosion.”
“Yes? How can Rembrary stop a demon summoning?”
But the priests and paladins didn’t believe it.
The highest priest carefully examined the piece of summoning stone that Rembrary had given him.
“We need to leave here first.”
The paladin advised again. He was frustrated that even the highest priest was dawdling when time was of the essence.
However, the paladin couldn’t urge him any further because the highest priest suddenly widened his eyes.
“What’s wrong?”
“This is…… a summoning stone. Rembrary said he stopped the explosion and brought this piece, but it’s definitely a summoning stone fragment!”
The highest priest, who shouted loudly, suddenly made a blank expression.
After a while, the highest priest looked at Rembrary with an admiring expression.
“Redrin…… says that Rembrary did destroy the summoning circle.”
At those words, the paladins and priests couldn’t even breathe.
That little kid destroyed the demon summoning circle all by himself? A child who had just become a lay priest?
“Really? How did you do it?”
The paladin was so surprised that he asked urgently.
Rembrary smiled nonchalantly.
“Redrin helped me.”
‘Right, Redrin?’
Rembrary was proud and called out to Redrin.
Redrin said nothing.
Lumena glanced at Redrin and muttered.
[Redrin. That power……]
* * *
“Aquari! Was it you who wanted to go to the human realm?! No! Was it Cloth?! Was it a dragon?! Was it Warion?! No! It’s Aquari!”
As Noir raised his voice with each word, Aize used his hands to cover his ears.
Aquari calmly drank his rose tea.
“The second passage was about to be completed, but why did you block it yourself? What do you think the black magicians will think if they know that Aquari blocked the passage!”
“What do I care what they think?”
Cloth sneered coldly.
Noir sent a signal to Cloth to ‘be quiet if you’re not going to help’ and sat down in front of Aquari.
“Aquari. I like that kid too. We raised him ourselves after rescuing him, so it’s hard not to feel attached. But he’s already gone to Redrin. You have to let go.”
“I have no regrets either.”
Aquari answered calmly, as Noir didn’t seem likely to calm down easily.
“Someone with no regrets destroys the passage to the human realm himself?”
“I couldn’t let him die right in front of me.”
“That’s exactly what regret is!”
Cloth signaled Noir to lower his voice and carefully interjected.
“Aquari. I’m worried too. This isn’t just a matter of blocking the passage this time. It’s almost like you taught Rembrary how to block the summoning circle with your own hands.”
“…….”
“Rembrary is young now, so even if you teach him, he won’t be able to use it effectively, but you have to complete four more summoning circles—no, five, since one failed. He’ll interfere again.”
The black dragon stared blankly and asked.
“He’s too young to do it, right?”
“Think about his growth rate. At that rate, you don’t know how he’ll change in a few years.”
Cloth said sullenly, and the black dragon tilted his head.
Aquari still only drank his rose tea.
Noir was frustrated and pounded his chest before declaring.
“We need to complete the summoning circle quickly before that kid grows up.”
* * *
More than the demons being noisy, the black magicians were in an uproar.
The summoning circle sacrifices were also taken away by a child named Rembrary, and the summoning stone explosion was also stopped by a child named Rembrary.
And that child was only ten years old.
“He’s already this much of a hindrance at ten years old. He will be more of a hindrance to us every year. We need to come up with a plan.”
The black magician who was in charge of the second summoning circle gnashed his teeth, and the other black magicians frowned and exchanged glances.
“But what can we do to a child who is holed up in the Grand Temple and doesn’t come out?”
“We do have someone planted in the Grand Temple, but there are too many eyes watching, so they can’t approach the child.”
“It seems like he comes out sometimes. Like this time.”
“No. When he stayed at the Florandia Temple, he still went around, but after going to the Grand Temple, the highest priest hardly lets him out and keeps him close.”
The black magicians exchanged various opinions, but good ideas didn’t come easily.
Then one black magician burst out laughing.
At the sudden laughter, the other black magicians frowned and stared at one place.
The black magician who received the attention smiled nonchalantly and said.
“Why are you thinking so hard? There’s a very simple way.”
