Wang Qianni’s eyes burned with a fierce intensity, barely concealing her desire to strike at someone’s heart.
However, Yang Chen remained unfazed, his expression calm as he said, “Anything else? If not, I need to pick up other passengers. Please get out of the car.”
“You’re not interested in women at all? I’m impressed,” Wang Qianni challenged.
“Heh… women are a distraction. If there’s nothing else, please exit the vehicle,” Yang Chen retorted.
Wang Qianni’s stomach churned with anger. She flung the car door open and stepped out.
Her dignity felt utterly crushed.
She had practically offered herself, yet Yang Chen had rejected her outright. The blow to her ego was substantial.
It was the first time a man had ever snubbed her. Other men would bend over backward to please her, vying for her attention, but she wouldn’t even spare them a second glance. Yet, Yang Chen remained unimpressed.
Hmph!
Annoying!
Yang Chen immediately drove off, not even bothering to look back.
Of course, Yang Chen wasn’t entirely uninterested in women, but the pain inflicted by Zhao Feifei was still fresh, and he wasn’t ready to embark on a new relationship.
Despite Wang Qianni’s seemingly liberated demeanor, girls like her often became intensely clingy once they developed feelings, capable of extreme actions.
Therefore, Yang Chen nipped it in the bud, denying her the opportunity to fall too deeply.
Just then, Yang Chen received a new ride request.
A passenger at Wanda Plaza had placed an order.
Yang Chen followed the navigation to the designated location.
Upon arriving, he saw a petite girl, barely five feet tall, being berated by a man well over six feet tall.
The stark height difference made the girl appear particularly vulnerable.
Initially, Yang Chen hesitated to interfere, but he couldn’t simply ignore the situation.
He quickly contacted the passenger through the app.
As fate would have it, the girl being harassed answered the phone.
Though reluctant to get involved, Yang Chen couldn’t bring himself to turn a blind eye.
“Hello, do you still need a ride?” Yang Chen inquired.
The girl, visibly frightened, nodded quickly. “Yes, I do. But…”
The man shot Yang Chen a dismissive look and said impatiently, “A ride? She’s not going anywhere until she pays for the damages.”
The girl moved closer to Yang Chen, as if seeking protection, and pleaded with the man, “Sir, I was just passing by. I didn’t even touch the shared bike. It fell and hit your car; it had nothing to do with me. How many times do I have to say it?”
The man retorted unreasonably, “How could it be such a coincidence? I’ve been parked here for over ten minutes, and the bike didn’t fall. It only fell when you walked by. Are you seriously claiming you didn’t touch it?”
“Why are you cursing? There’s no need for that!” the girl retorted angrily.
Her point was valid. Regardless of whether she had touched the bike or not, his language was uncalled for.
However, the man seemed accustomed to being unreasonable. “Why can’t I curse at you? I just bought a BMW X3 last week, and I take meticulous care of it. Now you’ve caused a dent, and you won’t admit it. Cursing is letting you off easy. Keep arguing, and I’ll slap you!”
Yang Chen began to piece together the situation.
If he didn’t complete this ride with the girl, he wouldn’t be able to accept another order.
He had two options: persuade her to cancel the ride, or resolve the issue and take her to her destination.
As a 24-year-old with a strong sense of justice, Yang Chen decided to intervene.

“You two are at an impasse,” he said, “so why not check the security footage from the bakery next door? Their camera faces the street; it should have captured everything. We can see if Miss Zhao knocked over the bike and damaged this gentleman’s car.”
The girl nodded eagerly. “He’s right! The surveillance video will show the truth.”
At that moment, her eyes reflected admiration for Yang Chen.
She had been arguing with the man for several minutes, and no one had offered to help.
She was genuinely grateful that Yang Chen had stepped in to find a solution.
However, the man seemed unwilling. He stepped closer to Yang Chen, almost nose to nose.
He whispered menacingly, “Mind your own business. I see your car has a temporary license plate; it must be brand new. If you interfere, I’ll make sure your new car gets a dent, too.”
His words revealed his true intentions.
Yang Chen smiled. “Sir, you both have your perspectives, and neither of you can convince the other. Wouldn’t it be best to let the surveillance video speak for itself? If she really damaged the car, she’d have no argument. That’s a win for you. Why threaten me? Are you implying that you know Miss Zhao didn’t touch the bike, that it fell on its own and hit your car, and you’re just trying to extort money? If that’s the case, you’re wrong. A big guy like you, trying to scam a little girl, isn’t right.”
“This is none of your concern! Don’t go looking for trouble!” the man repeated, his voice rising.
“She requested my car, and if I don’t complete this order, I can’t accept another one. So, yes, it is my concern. Either you let her go now, or I’ll go inside and ask for the surveillance footage. You choose,” Yang Chen countered.
The man turned and retrieved a baseball bat from his trunk. “Do you want me to smash your car?”
Yang Chen’s Buick had just been wrecked by Zhang Hengzhi, and the threat to his new car ignited his anger.
“Smash it if you can afford to pay for it. I won’t stop you. Go ahead,” Yang Chen challenged.
The man scoffed. “A beat-up Passat, worth maybe ten thousand. My X3 cost twice that, and I still have gas money left over. What are you pretending for?”
“Then smash it! Enough talk! Go ahead!” Yang Chen snapped back.
The man pointed the bat at Yang Chen. “Don’t push me. I have a bad temper, and I hate reverse psychology. If you provoke me, there will be consequences.”
“Why are you talking so much? If you’re going to smash it, do it. If you don’t dare, I’ll take her away. Are you even worthy of your height, being so indecisive?” Yang Chen taunted.
“Argh! I can’t take it anymore!” the man roared, charging toward Yang Chen’s car.
The girl quickly intervened. “This is between us; don’t involve him.”
Yang Chen stepped forward and pulled the girl close. Enhanced by the system, his strength was considerable, and the girl was petite, so he easily drew her into his arms.
It was summer, and Yang Chen wore only a T-shirt.
The girl immediately felt his strong chest and abdomen. Her heart raced, and her face flushed.
“Don’t stop him; let him smash it. I’ve already dealt with a few incidents; one more won’t hurt,” Yang Chen said.
The girl lowered her head, her forehead brushing against Yang Chen’s chest, and whispered, “Wouldn’t that be too embarrassing for you…?”
Yang Chen chuckled. “It’s okay. Consider it a public service. Go ahead, smash it! Put some force into it; turn it into scrap metal.”
“Argh! Are you still provoking me? Damn it, I’m in the mood now. If I don’t smash your car today, I’ll lose face!” the man yelled, raising the bat and charging forward.
But as he was about to strike, he noticed letters beneath the car logo.
He abruptly stopped and bent down to examine them.
Although he didn’t recognize the letters, he had heard the saying, “Don’t fear BMWs or Land Rovers; fear Volkswagens with letters.”
Could this be the legendary Phaeton [Volkswagen’s luxury sedan]?
Unable to decipher the word, he quickly pulled out his phone and searched for the English spelling of Phaeton, comparing each letter.
After confirming, the man immediately backed down.
“Lucky I noticed the letters; otherwise, that swing would have cost me over ten thousand,” he muttered.
The onlookers were baffled.
“What’s he doing? I had my phone ready; why isn’t he smashing it?”
“What’s there to see? It’s just a beat-up Volkswagen.”
“Hey, big guy, smash it! We’re waiting for the show. I’m recording for Douyin [Chinese TikTok].”
…
The crowd egged him on, but the man didn’t dare to proceed.
“What are you looking at? Smash it!” Yang Chen shouted.
The man quickly approached with a forced smile, offering Yang Chen a cigarette. “Brother, misunderstanding, a complete misunderstanding. I suddenly remembered, the wind must have blown the shared bike into my car; it had nothing to do with this young lady. You can take her; sorry, sorry.”
“Not smashing it?” Yang Chen pressed.
“Brother, don’t embarrass me further. It’s my fault, all my fault. Come on, you two, get in the car; don’t waste your time,” the man said humbly, gesturing towards the car.
Yang Chen put his arm around the girl and walked towards his car.
At that moment, the girl felt like she was the center of attention, basking in the glow of admiration.
Yang Chen opened the back door for her, then got into the driver’s seat and drove away.
The onlookers were dumbfounded, unable to comprehend the sudden change.
“Hey, what’s going on? You were so arrogant just now; how did you become so meek?”
“Yeah! What happened?”
…
The man turned to the crowd, his demeanor shifting back to fierce. “Damn it! That car is a Phaeton, a luxury car worth two million [RMB, approx. $300,000 USD]. If I had smashed it, I would have had to sell my own car to compensate him. You were all so loud; why didn’t you smash it yourselves and post the video on Douyin?”
The crowd suddenly realized their mistake, having mistaken the Phaeton for a common Passat.
The crowd turned to watch the Phaeton disappear into the distance…
