The King of the Underworld is Tired 4 (4/82)
The Tale of the Gigantes – (1)
This is the Underworld, ruled by Hades, god of the dead.
A cold, dark place where dead souls come to find rest.
Due to the nature of the Underworld, most gods avoid it, making it a very quiet place.
I rather like this Underworld.
The silence I feel when I close my eyes brings me peace rather than loneliness.
But there were nasty, wicked intruders who dared to invade Hades’ sanctuary…
“As Mother Gaia said, there really is an Underworld!”
“Attack them all! Kill Hades, the king of the Underworld, and liberate Tartarus!”
“Gigantes brothers! Free the Titan gods!”
They were hideous monsters with snake-like lower bodies and human-like upper bodies.
These gods, calling themselves Gigas [Gi-gahs, giants born of Gaia], must have been sent by someone to attack us.
Listening closely to their words…
It seems my grandmother Gaia is very displeased that we imprisoned the Titans in Tartarus [the deepest abyss of the Underworld].
The Earth Mother, who married the Sky God Uranus and gave birth to our father Cronus, is not someone to be taken lightly.
I suppose she has her pride, so she won’t directly try to expel us, but…
[Hee… I’m sorry, Hades. I couldn’t stop them with my power alone!]
The urgent voice of the goddess Styx [goddess of the River Styx, a boundary between the living and the Underworld] echoed in my head.
These beings who have invaded the Underworld and are causing chaos are all gods born from the power of Mother Gaia.
With dozens of hostile creatures swarming in, it’s no wonder the goddess Styx can’t handle them.
I also sent her my will, telling her to take refuge in a quiet place for now.
[I’ll run to Zeus and ask for support! If all your brothers gather, even those things…]
I appreciate the goddess Styx’s concern, but asking for help will be useless.
The Gigantes, who call themselves Gigas, invaded the Underworld under the orders of Grandmother Gaia.
If so, they must have invaded not only the Underworld but also the sea ruled by Poseidon and Mount Olympus, where Zeus resides.
[Then… aren’t the other gods in danger too?]
“It depends on how many of them there are.”
But you don’t have to worry, Goddess Styx.
The Underworld will not be captured by those kinds of guys.
The entrance to the Underworld is narrow, and they seem to have underestimated me, thinking I don’t have powerful weapons like Poseidon or Zeus, and only sent a few dozen of them…
I couldn’t help but laugh in disbelief. Because I couldn’t feel any immortal power from them, even though they are gods.
It’s not even like they’re fighting on the ground, but they’re invading my home turf. How is this any different from fighting Poseidon in the sea?
I mocked the impudent bastards to my heart’s content.
Workers to manage the underworld have come in on their own feet,
Killing them all and enslaving only their souls would be perfect.
I rose from the throne and put on the invisible helmet, Cyneē [helmet of invisibility], placed next to me, completely concealing my presence from this world.
I drew the sword forged in the River Styx, the evidence of a promise that even the gods must keep when swearing upon it.
Darkness naturally clung to my body, forming armor, and I climbed onto the ramparts to survey the invaders.
Dozens of masses of divine power are madly pounding on the gate, those are the Gigantes.
I scanned the Gigantes, half-god, half-snake giants, pounding on the gate and quietly jumped down below the fortress.
It would be nice to just sweep them away with divine power or authority, but they are as strong as the Titan gods.
I don’t know how many more enemies there are outside the Underworld, so it would be less draining to cut off their heads one by one with the Styx Sword.
Just like this.
Swish-
“Kuaaak!”
“Wh-what! I was suddenly attacked!”
“I didn’t feel anything!”
I moved again and cut off another Gigantes below the waist.
I took my eyes off the Gigas collapsing with an incomprehensible expression and turned to the next enemy.
“Uwaaaak!”
“No presence is detected! Where are you! Hades!”
The Gigas stood back to back, guarding all directions, but it was useless.
The monsters, who seemed to have been born not long ago, didn’t know how to use their strong powers, no matter how strong they were.
“Let’s throw the rocks on the ground! Brothers!”
“Sprinkle blood to find out where he is!”
If they had the experience of surviving on the battlefield for a long time, I don’t know, but right now they are just puppies.
Killing them was too easy for me, who had years of war experience with the Titan gods.
“Why! I definitely confirmed this direction!”
“Kuaaak! My waist… my waist…!”
Do you think my helmet, comparable to Astrape [Zeus’s lightning bolts] and Trident [Poseidon’s weapon], would show my location with just that much?
I whispered in the ear of a Gigas who had fallen into fear and pierced his heart with the Styx Sword.
Now that there are enough corpses, shall we start making subordinates?
[Arise.]
“Ugh… ueoee…”
“…Ugh.”
“The souls of our dead brothers are rising! It’s the power of the god of the underworld!”
“We should have brought more brothers!”
The dead Gigas were enveloped in black smoke, and only white figures rose up and attacked the other Gigas.
Every soul that comes to the Underworld belongs to me, Hades. There are no exceptions, even for gods.
“Uwaaa! Sa… save me!”
“Our mother is Gaia! We are of the same blood as you!”
So what? You guys came to kill me, so what are you talking about?
The semi-transparent souls surrounded the last remaining Gigas, and I quietly took off Cyneē.
Wearing a helmet on my head is more frustrating than I thought.
Especially since this Cyneē wraps me in an intangible aura, it feels like I’m wearing something all over my body.
The last intruder, who has finally discovered me, trembles and begs for his life.
When you confidently invaded the Underworld, did you never think this would happen?
“J-just a moment! If you spare me, I will never return to the Underworld…”
Swish. Pu-hwak!
The winds of time turn even the souls of weak modern people of the 21st century into ruthless gods of the underworld.
The Gigas, who dared to set foot in the Underworld without fear, all turned into a handful of spirits.
* * *
[Hades. You have killed all the intruders who came to the Underworld.]
[You can come out now.]
[What on earth is this commotion…]
I ordered the Gigas in soul form, who now only obey my orders, to clean up the soiled underworld and called the goddess Styx.
Soon, a stream of water gushed out of the River Styx, and the goddess Styx, bleeding from one arm, appeared before me.
“Hoo… I really think Gaia wants war.”
“The reason why the Earth Mother has been so quiet until now may be because she has been focusing her energy on creating these Gigas.”
The current era has not yet established the Twelve Olympians.
No, not even gods, there are no humans yet.
Gradually, my future knowledge, knowledge of mythology, was being forgotten in my head, but one thing I remember.
Like Odin of Norse mythology preparing for the Ragnarok War, Zeus is also fostering human heroes to help us.
However, there are not many Olympian gods now, and there are no human heroes to take the side of the gods.
Now is the perfect time for Gaia and the Titan gods to seek an opportunity for rebellion.
I ordered the spirits who had the vain dream of sweeping away the Underworld to defend this place well and prepared to go to Olympus.
With the Gigas invasion happening now, the most urgent place is not Poseidon, who boasts invincible power in the sea, but the Olympian Palace.
“Are you going to Olympus now? If so, I’ll go with you…”
I told her to stay here and protect the Underworld in case those guys come again.
If Tartarus is breached, our defeat is certain, so someone must stay here.
“Then how about I go and you protect the Underworld?”
The Gigas gathered in the Underworld are powerful gods, but only a few dozen at best.
Grandmother Gaia must have guessed that she couldn’t beat us with just them.
Clearly, hundreds, if not more, of Gigas are swarming into Olympus and causing chaos.
If a meaningful support force that can affect the war situation is to go, I have no choice but to head there myself.
Well, I’m not expecting anything from that bastard Zeus anyway.
“Ugh… be careful.”
I soothed the goddess Styx, who had a tearful face, crossed the five rivers surrounding the underworld, and headed to the surface.
The warm sunlight and vibrant plants on the surface, which I saw after a long time, welcomed me, but the air was very heavy.
Evidence that a large-scale war of the gods is affecting the world.
I must quickly head to Mount Olympus.
