Magic Learned in Vain – 38 (38/502)
# 38
Unintentional Training 3
Legion left the battlefield.
Leaving was as easy as eating bread dipped in soup while lying down.
I had died about a hundred times just trying to escape Spliya Plain, the largest battlefield in Ragnarok. Now, I could eat, rest, and even take a dump there and escape unharmed.
Oh, what is Ragnarok, you ask?
It’s a war of the gods. They call themselves gods, but honestly, I don’t really know. It’s supposed to have happened tens of thousands of years ago in the world I used to live in, but the plausibility is lacking.
The timeline doesn’t quite match up.
Anyway, it was a war involving all races, including the Southern Gods, Goddesses, Giants, Humans, Humanoids, Sea Gods, Orcs, Elves, Sea Kings, and Sky Gods.
Fifty million people died, or so they say.
Anyway, because of that, all races consumed most of their power, and thanks to that, humans were able to seize hegemony [leadership or dominance] over the continent after the war.
Humans are a bit cunning, you know.
It was a very interesting story at first, but now it’s annoying.
Everything is annoying. Living is annoying. Relearning magic is annoying. Leveling up is annoying. Learning skills is annoying.
Okay. I’ve decided.
This life will be as a homeless person.
I’ll live by begging until I die.
All stats are reset with each reset. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
What’s in my head remains the same.
I’m not very intelligent, but damn it, I can memorize all the 8th circle formulas.
After living about 3,000 times, I memorize them whether I want to or not.
What was his name, Lich Mamon? His name is a bit hazy, but like that guy said, it’s not about memorizing and solving, but it just stays in my head as if it’s engraved.
Ah, you can do anything if you live long enough.
I know why dragons are the progenitors [ancestors or originators] of magic.
Those lizard bastards can use 10,000 spells just by memorizing one magic formula a year. Damn it. No wonder they were so strong.
However, you can’t just use high-dimensional magic as you please.
You have to upgrade your body and mind accordingly.
That’s quite a troublesome task.
No, it’s a very troublesome task.
I’ve tried all sorts of training. I guarantee no one has done more training than me.
I don’t think there’s anyone like that in the history of mankind.
It’s a shame that you can’t level up with cash. The function is out of order, or so they say. Not knowing that, I once chewed on a gem-made sword and died. Damn it.
Well, what’s going to be different this life?
I’ve tried everything, but it’s useless. So, this life, I’m going to live comfortably as a homeless person. Homeless Master. Sounds good.
I left the battlefield and took a mountain path.
After walking for a while, I couldn’t smell the blood anymore. I couldn’t hear the screams either. From here on, it’s not within the sphere of influence of the war.
Let’s go to the village slowly.
And sleep all day. I’ll beg for food and die. Because this life is as a homeless person.
My mind becomes peaceful.
“Give me all your money!”
Five bandits appeared. Legion just walked on.
“This crazy bastard!”
A bandit swung his sword.
Legion slightly moved to the left. He put his hand into the guy’s pocket. If I remember correctly, this guy is the boss. He had quite a bit of money in his pocket. He took out the money pouch from his pocket.
Legion put it in his own pocket and kept walking.
The bandit boss may not have even realized his money was stolen. They chased after him for a long time, swinging their swords.
Legion dodged without looking.
You’d think they’d realize they picked the wrong opponent and run away, but they still don’t stop.
Later, they just cursed, panting.
Later, they realized the money was gone and chased after him, begging him to return the money.
“We became bandits because we had no choice. The whole world is at war, and we have to eat to live. I have five children. My friends here have many children too. If we don’t have that money, we’ll all starve to death. Sir, please return the money.”
Legion smirked.
-These guys’ repertoire never changes?
Mark also laughed.
At first, I was deceived by those guys’ words and returned the money.
I was so grateful that I followed them to the village without fear.
Damn it, I should have known then.
It was all a lie. Those bastards were deserters. Children my ass. I fell into those guys’ trap and died. I was so angry that I killed those guys twenty times after that. At first, I just burned them to death with magic, and then I stabbed them to death with a knife. Still, I couldn’t get rid of my anger, so I boiled them to death in boiling water.
“Get lost before I kill you again.”
Legion said in a low voice to the bandits who were shedding tears. The body is reset and remains fat, but knowledge and accumulated experience do not disappear.
His eyes were hard for ordinary people to approach.
The surprised bandits couldn’t meet Legion’s eyes and ran away.
* * *
Where would be a good place to be homeless?
-Do you really want to be homeless?
Why? Can’t I?
-Although it’s the smallest number, you’ve lived as a homeless person 117 times. According to the homeless, it’s not very good. Freezing to death, starving to death, being beaten to death by thugs, being thrown as food for monsters, being caught by organ trafficking organizations and having all your organs removed and dying. It’s too miserable.
Well, that’s true. Then what should I do?
-Live a little more comfortably. Keep a lot of slaves, watch gladiators, and have about 100 concubines and plant seeds.
Wow! Hey, hey. You’re saying things that will get you stoned by women without a care.
-Oops, sorry.
So, you want to live like a king? But I don’t want to be a king. It’s too much to do and it’s a headache. The power struggles are also severe.
I’ve done something similar to being a king three times.
It wasn’t a bad life, but it was glamorous on the outside, but not a very attractive position.
A position obtained in wartime.
Too easily exposed to poisoning and assassination.
Anyway, I was caught by the citizens and beheaded at the guillotine [a device used for beheading people]. Beheaded and reset again.
I’m hungry first. Let’s eat and think about it.
-Okay.
Legion headed to a nearby gambling house.
“Welcome!”
A large employee smiled at Legion. Legion also smiled.
In less than an hour, Legion swept all the money from the gambling house and went outside.
I’ve been here about five hundred times.
I knew who would win with what hand.
In short, the gambling house was the first place Legion procured money.
Soon, several men with knives chased out of the gambling house. They looked very fierce. Seeing them, the citizens were surprised and scattered to the left and right.
“Stop right there!”
Legion said.
“Stop right there!”
A man with a shaved head shouted.
“You bastard, you’re cheating. Looks like you don’t have enough necks.”
Legion said again.
“You bastard, you’re cheating. Looks like you don’t have enough necks.”
The shaved-headed man also said.
“If you hand over the money and leave, I’ll spare your life.”
“If you hand over the money and leave… I’ll spare…”
The bald man couldn’t finish his sentence. He felt strange and looked at Legion.
“Have we met somewhere before?”
“We have.”
“Where?”
“More than your wife has.”
The bald man frowned. What is this crazy bastard saying? Is he mentally ill?
“Catch this bastard and bury him in the mountains. After all, no one will know even if one of these guys disappears.”
Legion said.
A question mark popped up in the heads of the bald man and his subordinates. What is he talking about?
“That’s what you’re going to say.”
“What?”
The bald man and his subordinates looked at Legion with uneasy eyes. Something’s a little strange…
“Who are you?”
“I strangely don’t like being spoken to informally. You should say, ‘Who are you, sir?'”
“What?”
The bald man had a dumbfounded expression.
“Shall I make a prediction?”
“Wh, what.”
“Your wife is pregnant, right?”
“So…”.
The bald man looked at Legion with suspicious eyes.
He had to take the pig’s money, but he couldn’t approach him rashly. Somehow. A subtle sense of incongruity continued to touch the bald man’s senses.
“The name of the guy behind you is Kaligi, right?”
Legion pointed to a handsome man behind the bald man, who was a gangster.
“How do you know Kali?”
The bald man asked back.
“I told you, I’m a prophet. Listen carefully. The child in your wife’s belly is not your child. You will probably raise another man’s child.”
What is this again? It’s a terribly cruel thing to say.
“Wh, what nonsense!”
“You escorted a caravan to the capital two months ago, right?”
“Th, that’s right.”
“It’s been since then.”
The bald man’s heart began to beat loudly. Thump, thump, an ominous premonition strongly enveloped his whole body.
Legion sighed deeply and pointed to Kali.
“Kali and your wife must be very close. When the baby is born, see who it looks like.”
“Lies! You crazy bastard! What are you talking about!”
“It’s a prediction. Don’t curse at me, ask Kali. Hey, Kali. How many moles were on this bald guy’s wife’s butt? Three? Hey, bald guy. Is that right?”
The man named Kali’s face turned pale.
“H, how do you know?”
Kali asked Legion, but he didn’t answer.
“Is that important now? The most important thing is whose seed is in the bald guy’s wife’s belly. Well, I’ve made a prediction. So, do whatever you want with the rest.”
Legion smiled and left the scene.
The bald man stared at Kali with eyes blazing with murderous intent.
“You… you bastard… I told you to take good care of my wife while I was gone, and you did that? It’s like entrusting a fish to a cat. You son of a bitch.”
“Hy, hyung [Korean term for older brother or close male friend]. Th, that’s… I’m sorry. I was drunk at the time…”
“I’m going to kill you. I’m going to kill you!”
The bald man swung his sword at Kali.
Legion, as if he was already used to it, didn’t care what they did and went on his way.
Legion stopped walking.
A great beauty was standing in front of him. She was a woman with a very mysterious atmosphere.
She was much taller than him.
About 170 centimeters [approximately 5 feet 7 inches]. Her breasts were also full. Her waist seemed thinner than Legion’s thigh. Her hair was as black as the night sky. The color of her eyes was so deep that it was impossible to know what she was thinking.
I’ve been to this village over thousands of times.
I knew all the people’s private lives like the lines on the palm of my hand.
But I saw this woman for the first time.
That’s strange.
-This is a very different situation than before. I warn you. If you treat that woman like a joke, something big will happen.
If something big happens, I’ll die, right?
-Probably.
I’ll come back to life, right?
-Probably.
What’s the point of warning me?
-Sorry, just die if you think something’s wrong. Don’t struggle to live and suffer.
Yeah, that’s better.
“Who?”
Legion asked the woman in front of him.
“My name is Lilac. I’m an NPC.”
The woman who introduced herself as Lilac said. She moved only her lips without expression. It was like looking at a doll.
Hey, hey, what’s an NPC?
-It’s an abbreviation for Non-Player Character.
What’s that?
-It’s an artificial intelligence character created by the person who created the Hidden Dungeon.
Wow! Really? Then you’re the same artificial intelligence as you?
-Don’t compare me to her, it makes me feel bad. She’s 5 levels lower than me in artificial intelligence.
“But what business does an NPC have with me?”
Legion asked.
“Your name is Alexander de Legion.”
“That’s right.”
“You have been identified as a virus in the Hidden Dungeon.”
“Virus?”
“Yes.”
“What’s a virus?”
-That NPC is calling you a germ.
Damn it. I’ve lived so long, and I’m going through all sorts of ridiculous things. Calling me a germ?
