A long time ago, before the Grandia Kingdom had problems, people whispered about superhumans.
Maybe the rumors were strong because these superhumans didn’t often use their powers in battles.
People always wondered one thing:
“Who is the strongest?”
Everyone knew aura users had different skills, but nobody asked a superhuman about their power level directly.
Since some superhumans were mages, it was hard to compare them, even if you knew their levels.
So, people argued a lot about this for years.
About ten years ago, they mostly agreed on one thing.
Unlike other rumors that some superhumans didn’t like, this one was mostly agreed on by the superhumans themselves.
People agreed on this: Luther Kyle, the youngest and a half-giant, and Wicken Kalia, called the Storm Blade, were seen as about the same strength.
Stronger than them were Jordan Valterheim, the Flame Blade, and Juan Douglas, the Freezing Wizard.
They were so close in power, no one could say who was better.
But at the very top, everyone agreed it was Felix Esperanza, the Sword of Loyal.
Now, on the battlefield, people could see that these rumors were true.
“Frozen grip!” shouted Juan Douglas.
His face was red as he used his magic.
He trapped his enemy with a spell that was quick and impossible to dodge.
“Haaah!” Wicken Kalia moved like a white wind, attacking so fast no one could see his sword move.
“Uwaah!” The Sword of Loyal was trapped, but he was incredibly strong.
He swung a huge war hammer, as big as himself.
*Kwaaaang!*
The ground around them exploded in dust.
In the dust, a red flash of light appeared.
Then…
“Kugh!”
“Damn it!”
“Are you even using your magic right?!” Suddenly, long cuts appeared on Wicken and Luther, who were fighting close to the Sword of Loyal.
Even Juan Douglas, far away, was hurt.
Luther Kyle was shocked that one sword swing could do this.
He cursed, annoyed.
“Could we even beat him if you weren’t distracted? Focus!” Juan Douglas, with a bleeding cut on his hand holding his staff, looked furious.
It wasn’t like they were losing.
Juan had said confidently that the Sword of Loyal was struggling.
And he was.
His face was pale.
The power around him felt weaker than before.
He was clearly very tired.
But…
Juan, Wicken, and Luther looked at him with worry.
They couldn’t believe the Sword of Loyal could still fight, even against all three of them.
Because of this, things were changing on the whole battlefield.
Juan and Wicken especially kept looking back towards their own camp.
“If you three can’t handle me,” the Sword of Loyal said, “why don’t you call Jordan too?”
His voice was tired, but he sounded like he was still in control.
The feeling of the battle was changing.
The Sword of Loyal looked pointedly to the south.
* * *
“Follow me!”
“Break through!”
*Tap tap tap*
After many hard fights, only about 150 knights were left.
And there were about 1,300 soldiers on horseback with crossbows.
They wanted to break through the enemy’s main camp, which still had almost 30,000 soldiers.
It looked like suicide to attack with so few men.
Even without a superhuman leading the enemy, crossbow soldiers are usually good for quick attacks, not charging straight into a huge army.
But surprisingly, this attack that seemed like suicide started to work easily.
This was because of a few things.
The first thing that helped them was Logan.
He was at the very front of the knights.
“Taa!” Just by pointing his sword, he made the horses stumble, throwing off the enemy’s attack.
Knights who were strong enough to stay on their horses and use their power still had their necks cut by Logan’s golden sword.
It moved like water, but was deadly sharp.
When there were many strong knights together, Logan’s giant golden sword cut through the front lines like they were nothing, destroying the enemy knights.
He had a powerful presence, much stronger than any normal knight.
Balton Oil, the best knight from Trumbel County, was cut in half in just a few moves.
After that, no one dared to get in Logan’s way.
After Logan’s huge sword swing, arrows rained down on the fallen knights.
The knights who lived were then attacked by the McLaine knights with swords and horses.
The second thing that helped was the McLaine knights behind Logan.
“Die!”
“Rot!”
*Scrak. Clang!* In the fight, one knight’s armor was ripped open, and another died.
“Kuh, krrk. C-crazy…” They attacked without caring about getting hurt, just trying to kill in one hit.
The McLaine knights were killing enemies like they were giving up their own lives to win.
Their focus on strong attacks worked well with their special swords, making them fight even better than they normally could.
And the third thing.
“What is this…!”
“Golems! Destroy them! Ack!”
“Aaaargh!” Suddenly, thirty golems appeared.
Each one was huge, three meters tall, and carried a war hammer in each hand.
No one knew what they were.
These golems were as strong as knights.
They came right behind Logan, at the front of the McLaine knights.
Their hammer hands just smashed enemies, even when enemy swords hit their bodies.
It was like they didn’t care about getting hurt, just about hurting the enemy.
It wasn’t a skillful fight, just a wild, crazy charge.
But because they were heartless monsters and so strong, it worked.
*Kwaaang!* Some smart enemy knights tried to fight back against the golems.
“Damn it! No core! Break their legs!”
“Aaaargh! Damn it! Find the mage! He must be close!” They could never guess that the one controlling these monsters, who could make their legs grow back in just ten seconds, was far away in the castle.
*Impossible magic…*
The golems were very helpful in this urgent situation.
Logan immediately knew that Clayton was the source of their magic.
But even with his special eyes that could see mana, he couldn’t understand how Clayton did it.
He guessed that something good must have happened to Clayton.
‘He’s reached the 6th Circle, the level of a Magician! But what new ability made this possible?’
Clayton’s magic might not be as strong as a Magician’s big attack all at once. But it could reach very far and last for a long time. This made up for the weaker power.
In any case, it made Logan’s job much easier.
“Increase the speed even more!”
Logan shouted loudly, adding Force to the horse he was riding.
The Force, moving exactly as he wanted, made the tired horse’s lungs stronger, relieved its tired muscles, and gave it more power.
Also, his skin became so strong that when soldiers suddenly attacked with spears, they only left small scratches. This was a bonus effect of his power.
It was a miracle created by his amazing skill in Force horsemanship, without Logan even thinking about it.
Logan pushed Force into his tired horse, and the animal’s eyes glowed like hot coals.
With a snort, the horse surged forward, faster than before. It smashed through the enemy soldiers like a lightning bolt, leaving a wide gap in their lines. A fierce smile spread across Logan’s face.
It seemed strange that he had been ready to lose Liberatio or have many knights hurt, because the enemy lines were being broken so easily.
‘Th-that……?’
Juan Douglas’s eyes, which had been focusing his magic to trap Geom-gong, started to shake.
He saw McLaine’s Knights charging through his main camp, splitting it like dry firewood.
Juan felt confused because of what was happening. It was not what he expected.
Scritch.
“Kugh!”
Juan had to pull himself together as a blade of Aura almost hit him.
Aura Shot.
This showed that Geom-gong was now a high-level Aura user, and it was why Juan was struggling so much.
“Concentrate!”
This was an emergency, so Juan had to focus, even though his rude son-in-law was talking back.
The skills Geom-gong had shown at the coming-of-age ceremony were not this good.
‘Old man, you’ve been hiding your skills all this time?’
If Juan made even a small mistake, he could die. He didn’t have time to worry about the main camp.
Most importantly, he was sure that the worst thing wouldn’t happen.
‘No matter how annoying he is, he can’t break my barrier unless he’s superhuman. He probably can’t even see it. At least not for a day.’
If the Prince was safe, then the Knights who had broken into the main camp would soon be surrounded and defeated.
Juan told himself this to feel better.
He tried to ignore the worry that was starting to grow inside him.
After breaking through the Knights on the front lines, the path ahead was now open.
This showed that the 1st Prince’s army had changed their plan.
Logan knew they were planning to surround him and stop his strong attack, which they couldn’t stop head-on. But he saw it as a chance to go even faster.
‘I have to find the Prince.’
The Prince would probably be heavily guarded deep inside the main camp.
Under the phoenix flag, which showed the Grandia Royal Family, was the symbol of swords crossing. Logan ran straight ahead, looking at the flag that showed the Douglas County.
But now that the path was open, he couldn’t see the Prince and his guards, who should have been in the deepest part of the camp. He couldn’t sense them.
‘Even if Juan is gone, shouldn’t the best soldiers be guarding him?’
He couldn’t feel any strong people around him. He only saw enemy soldiers moving to surround them.
As Logan focused as much as he could in this strange situation, his very strong senses noticed something strange.
He quickly charged forward and swung his sword at the space where a strange, cold power was flowing.
Kwaaaang!
The space looked empty, but when Logan’s sword hit it, it bounced back with a loud explosion.
“It’s here! Break it down!”
This must be something Juan Douglas had done with magic. But since he wasn’t here, it was only a matter of time before they broke through the magical barrier.
That’s what he thought.
But the strange energy he had sensed didn’t change, even after many knights attacked one after another.
Clang!
Wham!
Tap tap tap.
“……Fall back!”
After the knights moved back, a golden greatsword flew into the air.
The strongest physical attack Logan could do right now hit the invisible barrier.
Kwaaaang!
Oooooong.
But the strange energy only shook once, but it was still very strong and did not break.
“This is…….”
Logan looked worried.
Thud. Thud. Thud.
Suddenly, one of the golems came up and quickly wrote on the ground.
[This is a magical barrier made by a Magician using a lot of power. It won’t break unless you attack with Aura or magic. I can’t do it now because I’m too far away.]
“This is ridiculous……!”
What the golem wrote was even more surprising than the new magic Clayton had just shown.
[Since the person who made it isn’t here, it will disappear eventually, but it will last at least an hour or two. You should retreat.]
“Absolutely not!”
Logan ignored the golem’s message and stepped forward again.
Logan thought it would be a waste to give up now, after coming so far and getting this chance. He still had more options.
Logan ignored the golem, which kept writing on the ground, and focused his mind and raised his sword.
‘It’s still not perfect……’
He had a power that allowed him to resist Aura’s destructive power, even though he wasn’t superhuman yet. He had even managed to split Yordan’s Flame Aura for a moment, even when he was weakened.
‘I can do it!’
Divine Sword Secret Art, 4th Form: Flame Cleave.
This special move was about cutting through magic itself, not just physical things like his other moves.
For a moment, the golden light from Logan’s sword, Lux, became blurry.
Tear!
The empty space broke open with a loud noise, showing what was inside.
Logan smiled fiercely when he saw many knights and magic users with confused faces, and a man with white-blonde hair and blue eyes inside the broken barrier.
