Lux had saved his speed boost for the perfect moment. Even though things were very bad, he used it now, at the very last second.
Did Lux feel too proud thinking his blank face, like he didn’t care if he lived or died, had also helped? Maybe it had tricked Jordan.
“Ugh, cough…” Jordan coughed, blood dripping from his mouth. His eyes, like a snake’s, glared down at his own body. All he felt was burning anger and hate.
*He has every right to be angry,* Lux thought. Jordan thought Lux was weak and slow. Then, suddenly, Lux was three times faster! Jordan couldn’t believe it when part of his power was cut off as they hit. And he *really* couldn’t believe the attack that came right after, breaking his favorite sword and stabbing him in the neck.
Even Lux was surprised it worked so well. *I was so lucky,* he thought, breathing heavily. It was a mix of his speed boost, his fire attack, and pure chance that made it work.
Lux started to relax and wipe sweat from his forehead. But then he saw his friends still fighting and surrounded! Quickly, he finished Jordan off, making sure he was really dead.
Then, another enemy soldier, panicking, yelled, “S-stay back! How dare you! Do you even know who I AM?” *Thwack.* Lux didn’t waste time listening. He swung his sword and cut off the man’s head. The words weren’t even worth hearing.
Lux held up his sword, the enemy’s head still on the tip. Then he roared, “The princes are dead! The fight is over!”
His shout boomed across the battlefield. Suddenly, everything changed. “The Grand Prince did it!” someone yelled. “He killed the prince!” “We won! We won!” McLaine’s best soldiers, who had been fighting hard and almost losing, were the first to hear. They cheered as loud as they could, wanting everyone to know.
Then, the Valterheim Knights saw it was true. Their lord and prince were dead. Slowly, they dropped their swords. Their faces were empty, shocked. “No… it can’t be…” one whispered. “How could our lord…” As their best knights, the ones who led the fight and kept everyone going, gave up, the other soldiers also stopped. They looked around, confused.
“W-what’s happening? Why are they stopping?” “Is the war… over?” “That’s crazy!” Some soldiers still wanted to fight, but more and more started dropping their weapons, especially near the 2nd Prince’s camp. Soon, the fighting stopped completely.
The lords and baronets, who had been pushing their soldiers to fight McLaine and the Esperanza Knights, changed the most. “There’s no reason to fight anymore…” one lord said. “It’s pointless. I give up.” Another said, “We were just doing what our lord told us.”
This whole war was to make their prince the king. But now, that prince was dead. They couldn’t even hide him safely! The strongest fighters always protected him. And Jordan Valterheim, the best fighter who protected the prince and led them all, was also dead. Killed by someone they never expected.
They knew what they had to do. “The Fractal Barony stops fighting!” one lord shouted. “The Rohen Barony too!” yelled another. “The Anthony Barony lowers its flag!” These were important families, not the leaders, but still vital. Their soldiers dropped their weapons as their lords ordered. Flags were lowered, and family after family began to pull back their troops.
The 1st Prince’s army, who had been rushing forward because Juan Douglas told them to, finally started to realize what was happening. “Is the Dukedom really finished?” one soldier asked. “The war…?” another wondered. “What now?” Voices buzzed with confusion. The crazy fighting slowly died down.
But not everyone stopped fighting. Juan Douglas couldn’t believe it. “Huh… this is crazy…” Now that everything was ruined, he just wanted to destroy his enemy too, even if he was destroyed as well. He didn’t even realize that his enemy was about to die right there. This was worse than anything Juan Douglas could have imagined.
*Everything is gone,* he thought. His face, twisted with anger, slowly went blank. They say when you get angrier than you can handle, you just become calm. He never thought it would happen to him.
*It’s all because of that kid,* he thought. He saw Lux in the distance, holding the prince’s head and shouting. *That one boy ruined everything.* Under his blank face, his anger was still burning, focused on just one person. All his dreams were broken, and he couldn’t fix it. So, shouldn’t he at least make that boy pay?
*I will kill you, Lux McLaine, no matter what,* he thought. Right then, Juan Douglas stopped using his magic against the Sword Master. He lifted both hands high in the air, like he was giving up completely. “I surrender, Sword Master,” he called out.
“What?!” “Your Excellency!” Luther and Wiken, who had been fighting the Sword Master hard, yelled in shock. They were facing the strongest fighter in the kingdom and hadn’t understood what was happening. It was like their own side had suddenly attacked them. “Good choice, Juan,” the Sword Master said, his face pale, blood dripping from his mouth. He looked tired, but now that Juan Douglas wasn’t using magic against him, his power was scary. *Rumble!* In a flash of light and thunder, the Sword Master disappeared. Then, screams! “Aaargh! Ugh, cough!” “Gah… you traitor…” He had appeared behind Luther and Wiken before they could even blink.
Though the two soldiers with special powers collapsed instantly, Juan was not surprised.
He knew that the unbelievable attack, with its loud roar, was the Sword Master’s strongest move.
‘That’s already a dangerous move, and now it’s even scarier. That old man is a monster.’
It made him grind his teeth, but there was also a lucky thing.
Luther and Wicken had been badly hurt and were unconscious, but they didn’t seem to have any deadly wounds.
Knowing the Sword Master wanted to capture them, not kill them, made Juan feel a little better.
‘First, I’ll let them capture me. Then, I’ll make that jerk pay…’
He glanced at the red hair in the distance, and the anger inside him started to boil again.
Juan tried to calm down and looked at the Sword Master coming closer.
“I only ask that you let me live and treat me fairly. I will accept that you have won.”
“Yes, I thought you would say that. But…”
“…?”
The Sword Master’s smile seemed scary.
“Juan, it’s easy to see what you are thinking. You are called the Ice Magician. Control your anger before you speak.”
“What are you…?”
Juan tried to answer, but—
There was a sharp slicing sound.
Suddenly, he felt like the world was tilting.
Soon, he couldn’t even think about what that feeling meant.
His head was gone, and his body fell to the ground with a fountain of blood.
A magician who didn’t use magic couldn’t even see the Sword Master move.
The nobleman, once called the Ice Magician and very powerful in the kingdom, died without meaning.
The one who killed him smiled sadly as he looked at his student, who was cleaning up the battlefield in the distance.
“I never planned to let you and Jordan live. See you in hell, Juan.”
Juan would have been even more angry if he had heard those words, but—
His soul had already left his lifeless body.
It wasn’t just very strong people who couldn’t stop fighting.
“Fight to the end, everyone! What are you doing! Why aren’t you moving?!”
Julio Tritan, the Northern Margrave, kept shouting at his troops.
A little further away, Famil Czerno, the Northwestern Margrave, was also yelling loudly.
“Who said you could stop! Fight! I said fight! Destroy those McLaine jerks!”
As the main leaders of the Second Prince’s group who started the civil war, they would not be welcomed if they surrendered.
They had to fight to the end.
The same was true for the margraves of the First Prince’s group who were causing trouble in the south.
Of course, Logan didn’t plan to just watch them struggle.
“They are the ones who started the civil war! Capture the margraves! Anyone who catches them will be rewarded as a hero!”
The shout echoed across the battlefield and confused the allied forces even more.
Some of the margraves realized the war was lost and ran away with only their trusted knights, which started a new trend on the battlefield.
“The margraves are running away! Catch them!”
The allied forces, who had been unsure, and those who had been under the margraves, began to chase after their ‘former’ lords.
On top of that.
“The McLaine forces are to capture the fleeing margraves!”
“The Esperanza Knights are to kill the ones who started the civil war!”
With the orders from Logan and the Sword Master, the leaders of the two forces that had ended the civil war, they quickly surrounded the enemy from the east and west.
“Catch them!”
“They are the ones who tried to ruin the country!”
“Get rid of them all!”
The fleeing margraves only had about 100 loyal knights.
That wasn’t enough to fight the McLaine or Esperanza Knights.
Most of the fleeing margraves were captured and beheaded right away.
However, not all the margraves died so easily.
“Count Luchen Talos of the Second Prince’s group has disappeared. His knights don’t know where he is either.”
“A very small group, probably Count Kyrun Wolves of the First Prince’s group and his men, escaped the Esperanza Knights by using crossbows to cover them as they ran.”
Logan clicked his tongue in disappointment as he listened to the report.
But he spoke without hesitation.
“Well, there’s nothing those two can do now. They’ll probably escape to another country. Just clean up the battlefield.”
“It seems that we have roughly identified who is friend and who is enemy.”
The Sword Master nodded with relief at Logan’s words.
Even with all the deaths, the surviving enemy forces totaled almost 60,000 from both groups.
The Esperanza Duchy and McLaine forces together only had about 20,000 soldiers. It was a strange outcome where the losing army was three times bigger than the winning army.
So, it took a while to identify friend from foe and take and organize the defeated soldiers’ equipment, but even that didn’t feel too bad.
Because all of that proved that this long war was over.
‘Thank goodness. Really, thank goodness.’
Just as the Sword Master was sighing with relief, Logan said something unexpected.
“Master, I will go to the capital first. I’ll leave the rest to you.”
“What?”
“We must also clean up the remaining forces in Gran. If they have already run away, I don’t know, but if they are still there, they might try something.”
“The people left in the capital are just government workers, right?”
“Since there are people who weren’t caught here, I want to be ready for anything that might happen. Besides, you being here will clear things up much faster than I could.”
Also, the Sword Master had to stay because of the two captured people with special powers.
“Hmm. Alright, I understand.”
Most of the knights, who were the main military force, were captured here, including the two margraves who ran away.
Even if they tried something, it wasn’t a big worry, but the Sword Master let his student do what he wanted.
‘It’s better to finish things completely than to still be worried.’
He nodded, but—
“The war is not over yet! McLaine Knights! Except for the injured crossbow soldiers, gather everyone!”
Seeing Logan quickly call only the best soldiers who could ride horses and ride away, he felt a little worried.
For some reason, his student looked like he had serious anger.
‘That guy, could it be…’
With that thought, the Sword Master decided to finish the war as quickly as possible.
