A man soared into the sky wearing the Golden Dragon Armor.
Even in the middle of the fierce battle, many people noticed the blue magic glowing dozens of meters around him.
“Shoot! Shoot!”
“Kill him!”
“It’s the Emperor!”
Soon, attacks rained down on the Emperor.
The most impressive attack was a barrage of arrows with red flames, blue winds, white ice, and yellow lightning.
This was the Magic Archer Brigade, a symbol of power from the Kingdom of Lyndon, one of the strongest kingdoms in the west.
Almost a thousand magic arrows flew into the sky. The air became a storm of fire, ice, wind, and lightning – a true hell.
Kwakwakwakwakwakwakwang!
“Aaaargh!”
“Get down!”
A terrible explosion happened as the flames, lightning, wind, and ice crashed together.
The explosion was so strong that soldiers on the walls were thrown down.
But the Imperial Army used this chance to attack.
“Now’s the time! Charge!”
The Imperial Central Army knights climbed the walls while the enemy was busy attacking the Emperor.
“Stop them! Stop them, I say!”
“There are too many knights!”
“Stop them at all costs!”
“Aaaargh!”
The battle quickly changed. Clark and Claude, the twin mages who led Lyndon’s proud archers, gritted their teeth and yelled.
“Just kill the Emperor!”
“Use all your mana!”
They weren’t just giving orders. They were using every last bit of magic to prepare for a final attack.
Whirrrr.
They used Lyndon’s national treasures: 5-class artifact bows made from magical beasts. The lightning mage and the flame mage put all their power into these bows, called ‘Primal Lightning’ and ‘Genesis Flame.’
Kwaaaaaaang!
The yellow and red arrows shot out with a loud explosion, hitting their target head-on.
Flash!
Kwaaaaaaang!!!!
A bright light flashed, and then a deafening roar swallowed all the sounds of the battle.
Everyone looked toward the explosion.
[That was quite something. Twin mages, were they?]
The Emperor’s voice, a little tired but strong, rang out, and everyone knew the battle was decided.
“His Imperial Majesty has triumphed!”
“Uwaaaah!”
“Long live the Empire!”
The Imperial Army’s morale was high.
“N-no way.”
“What kind of monster is that….”
“W-we have to run….”
The Lyndon soldiers were collapsing in fear.
The Emperor’s cold voice spoke again.
[For daring to want the Empire, you will pay with your lives. Mekido.]
A wave of blue flame erupted, swallowing a section of the ramparts in crackling fire.
– Aaaargh!
– Kraaah!
The twin mages melted away, their faces showing their horror. This secured the Empire’s victory.
“Aaaargh!”
“E-everyone, run away!”
“Save me!”
Bang!
Pabababak.
Kwaaaaang.
The Kingdom of Lyndon fell just two weeks after taking the city of Gritheim in the western Empire.
“Well done, Your Majesty.”
“Homage to His Imperial Majesty!”
“Glory to the Empire!”
Inside Gritheim’s castle, which was being cleaned up after the war, a loud roar filled the hall.
The Emperor sat heavily at the head of the table, his right hand raised to quiet the cheers. Even victory felt tiring now.
“It was merely what had to be done, merely the inevitable result.”
The new head of the Imperial Special Inspection Department watched the Emperor’s calm face and felt relieved.
‘He’s finally regained his composure.’
The Emperor, who had been irritable since losing his left arm, was now calm. The head of the department felt like the frustration that had been building up since the Battle of McLaine had disappeared.
He was sure the Emperor felt the same way, as he was subtly smiling.
“What’s the news from other fronts?”
“The Mage of the Cutting Wind has won in Lugenheim.”
“That is expected. What about the others?”
“We are pushing forward on other battlefields. But the remaining nations are trying to form an alliance.”
“Tsk. I see.”
Only two victories had been confirmed, but the Emperor and his advisors remained calm.
Most of the superhumans were fighting in Lugenheim with the Mage of the Cutting Wind, or in Gritheim with the Emperor. The plan was to defeat Gaia and Lyndon first, the two strongest kingdoms in the west.
“Your Majesty’s plan has succeeded perfectly. Congratulations.”
“Congratulations!”
“Hmm.”
The Emperor nodded, looking calm but pleased, as the roar echoed through the hall.
The fifteen armies that had joined together had lost a third of their soldiers. Even if the eight nations left tried to fight together now, the Empire was sure they could be easily defeated by just the Western Legions.
Of course, the remaining forces still numbered 500,000, which was a lot, but they were not as strong as the Empire’s forces.
So, the Emperor was more interested in other things.
“What about the Divine Sword?”
“I am sorry to say, we still haven’t found a trace.”
The head of the Imperial Special Inspection Department, known as the Ghost Chief, knelt down.
“Still haven’t found a trace?”
“I-I am sorry.”
“No, no. If it’s the Divine Sword, it can’t be helped.”
The Emperor felt truly confident. That’s why he could speak calmly, even to a servant who had failed.
The Holy Nation was also looking for the Divine Sword, so he couldn’t use that as an excuse to pressure them.
But the main question remained.
‘Why did he do such a thing?’
The Divine Sword’s actions didn’t make sense.
He had interfered in the war in McLaine and made the Empire angry. He had also gone back to his country and assassinated the Pope, its leader.
Even a simple person would think something was wrong. The Emperor felt uneasy.
‘There’s something more to it. Something hidden that I don’t know about….’
He didn’t think the Divine Sword was crazy, like the rumors said.
The Divine Sword was a superhuman who was close to becoming an Aura Master.
It was more likely that there was another reason for his actions, not that someone so strong would suddenly go mad.
But he didn’t know what that reason could be.
“There’s not enough information. Investigate everything that’s been happening in the Holy Nation recently. Start from the beginning.”
“Yes.”
The Ghost Chief bowed his head.
– Your Majesty! Urgent news!
A hurried voice came from outside the hall.
The knight rushed in and delivered the news, shocking everyone.
– McLaine has begun its advance toward the Empire!
“These crazy people…!”
“Those small nations have become brave after one victory!”
“Your Majesty, we must retreat at once!”
The generals and ministers shouted, still excited from the victory. The memory of defeat also made them anxious.
The Emperor gritted his teeth.
“They broke out of their own shield? Logan McLaine has truly gone mad!”
But he also thought it was a good thing.
‘If they broke out of the Great Magic Circle, the Eastern Legions should be able to stop them.’
Even if things got worse, they should be able to hold out. He would defeat the smaller enemies first, and then punish McLaine.
“Prepare for battle again! Defeat the Western Allied Forces quickly, and show McLaine the power of the Empire!”
“Yes!”
The ten western nations, now eight, were trying to unite, but the Empire was pushing them back.
The Emperor decided to gather them together and defeat them all at once. He thought that would end the war faster.
The eight western nations gathered their forces, and the Empire’s Western Legions and Central Army advanced quickly.
Then, terrible news arrived.
– Half of the Eastern Legions were destroyed by McLaine on the Ruspelheim Plains!
This unexpected defeat shocked the Empire’s leaders, especially since it happened so soon after McLaine’s invasion.
“H-how!?”
“They have that much power even without the magic circle?”
“What was Commander Zipen doing!?”
The leaders were confused. The Emperor made a decision.
“Send all the remaining Black Knights to Ruspelheim! I will go to Ruspelheim too. Take half of the knights from the Central Army to follow me!”
His advisors were shocked by this unusual order.
“Y-Your Majesty!”
“What about the current battlefield…!?”
“I will leave the defeat of the eight western nations to Galen.”
No one dared to disobey him.
“I shall obey your command.”
Galen Dicaid and the Empire’s five mages (two of the seven Magic Tower Masters had died in McLaine) would handle the west.
“As His Imperial Majesty wills.”
Ivan Rodriguez and the five Western Legion commanders (5th Legion Commander Balton Krassen, 6th Legion Commander Rodrigo Blanc had died during the invasion of the Western Kingdom) would also go.
“For the glory of the Empire!”
The remaining five superhumans of the Imperial Guard, including Jerome Dicaid and Matt Dickerson, bowed down and prepared to go.
But then, more news arrived.
“Y-Your Majesty. Something terrible has happened!”
This news would change everything.
– A Great Mage has appeared in the Western 8 Nations Allied Forces!
– It is suspected to be the Magic Tower Master of Kassel!
– He is estimated to be followed by at least four other mages, and about 300 or more mages below them.
The most shocking news was that the Western 10 Nations were supporting the Kassel Magic Tower.
– The Kassel Magic Tower has only become an enemy because of the Empire’s unfair treatment. They have never committed any crimes. The events in the Holy Nation were misunderstandings, and we will resolve them through talks with the new Pope.
This was a way to save face, but it was a devastating surprise attack for the Empire.
The only good news was….
– The Holy Nation will not listen to the excuses of those who support the Kassel Magic Tower. We will destroy all the demonic spawns who have deceived the Holy Nation and brainwashed Karl Harmon Killerbrew.
The Holy Nation was on the Empire’s side and would join the Western War.
But that wasn’t enough to solve the Empire’s problems.
“It will take at least two months for the Holy Nation’s forces to join the Western Front.”
“The Holy Nation will not help with the war in the East.”
The Emperor pressed his head, not liking any of this news.
Then, a secret message came to the Emperor.
[Greetings to His Imperial Majesty, Emperor of the Ares Empire. It seems this is our first time meeting, heh heh. You seem to be in trouble, and I have a proposal that might improve our relationship.]
The Emperor finally lost his temper when he saw a message from his enemy, the Magic Tower Master of Kassel. The old mage had somehow hacked into the Imperial family’s secret messages!
“That damned old snake dares to…!!!”
He was furious and wanted to destroy the message, but the Emperor didn’t let his emotions control him.
[Heh heh heh. Just listen to what I have to say, Your Imperial Majesty. It won’t be a loss.]
The conversation between the smirking old man and the enraged Emperor continued for a long time.
