Logan could suddenly see two lines. These lines linked the Emperor and the Black Knights. Logan’s senses were so strong, they went beyond the castle walls.
One line was like a magical thread of mana, the Emperor’s power. The other was a line of souls, showing how he controlled the Black Knights’ minds.
The Black Knights who had appeared were clearly created in a hurry, just as he had suspected.
Maybe that was why their brainwashing was incomplete, so the Emperor had to connect the lines of their souls and control them directly.
And as much as the souls of the Black Knights had weakened, the ‘hatred’ inside them was clear.
Logan thought, ‘In that case, there’s no need to cut the mana lines.’
Logan smiled slightly and raised his sword.
Flash!
A burst of golden light, as bright as the sun, filled the air. It felt warm and powerful, like a holy fire, and it sliced through the Emperor’s magic like paper. The soul lines connecting the Emperor and the Black Knights snapped cleanly.
The Emperor’s blue mana couldn’t stop the strike that was beyond normal magic.
“What…!?”
The Emperor’s voice exploded with shock. At that moment, the Black Knights seemed to grow stronger, their movements faster, their anger bursting out. A terrible mix of screams filled the air, a cacophony of pain and rage.
“I, I…”
“Don’t want to…”
“I don’t want to become a monster…”
“I, I will curse you, Empire…!”
“I hate you, Emperor…!”
The crazed look in their eyes showed that Logan’s plan had worked. Their anger was now directed at the Emperor.
“No!”
The Emperor’s face twisted, and the blue mana around his feet began to disappear quickly.
But…
“That won’t do.”
Crack!
The golden sword pierced the ground beneath the Emperor’s feet, not the Emperor himself.
At the same time, the golden power from the sword began to replace the Emperor’s mana, keeping the magic he had created in place and giving the scrolls’ power back to the Black Knights.
It was unbelievable: Logan, who was not a mage, was stealing and using the magic of a great mage.
“Impossible…!!”
The Emperor screamed, shocked by this.
A giant golden fist appeared in front of him.
Wham!
“…Ugh!?”
The Emperor couldn’t even scream properly as he was sent flying beyond the castle walls.
Logan watched the Emperor fall, feeling deep regret.
‘Too bad…’
He should have finished him off in one go.
He seemed badly hurt, but Logan couldn’t leave his position to chase him.
Woooong.
“Hate the Empire…!”
“The Emperor betrayed our loyalty…!”
Thud!
The Black Knights, like broken toys, twisted and turned. Red light glowed around them.
Right now, it was more important to stop the Black Knights’ rampage. It would be bad if they caused chaos on the battlefield.
Of course, there was a way to solve both problems.
[The Emperor is over there.]
Logan sent a telepathic message to the Black Knights.
“Emperor…!”
“The Emperor!!”
“Kill the Emperor!!!”
At the same time, the Black Knights began to head towards the eastern wall, their eyes gleaming with a chilling light.
“To the Emperor!”
“To the Empire!”
“Death!”
Slash.
Crack!
A red light began to spread from the center of the wall.
“Aaaargh!”
“Wh-what are these monsters!”
“S-save me!”
The soldiers with the ‘Golden Dragon’s Mark’ fell quickly.
But only ten or so Black Knights caused this destruction.
The remaining forty Black Knights ran madly after the Emperor, their minds set on killing him. They saw the Emperor, who had been thrown beyond the battlefield and was struggling to stand.
– Emperor!!!
The Black Knights charged forward, screaming.
– Insignificant test subjects!
Wham!
The Emperor and the Black Knights clashed away from the main battlefield, with a deafening explosion.
The Imperial Army began to fall apart.
“Save His Imperial Majesty!”
“Let’s save His Majesty!”
The Imperial Knights panicked and rushed towards the Emperor. Logan gritted his teeth, feeling his power running out.
[The power to keep you going is running out. Let’s finish this.]
The Black Knights’ power came from the scrolls, using the power of those who had died on the battlefield. But the Emperor’s magic was needed to send that power to them.
Logan could only change that magic and keep it working. Even though he could keep it going for a while with his enhanced powers, he wasn’t a mage.
Luckily, the Black Knights seemed to understand what he wanted them to do.
– No!
Logan could feel the Black Knights’ souls screaming, and he could also feel their strong resentment.
That resentment turned into a massive explosion, bigger than anything the world had ever seen.
Flash!
A burst of light exploded where most of the Black Knights were, catching everyone’s attention. Then, a mushroom-shaped cloud of dust rose into the sky, and the shockwave hit the battlefield.
– Wham!
The soldiers were thrown away, and even the knights lost their balance. The battlefield was a muddy field, littered with broken weapons and the bodies of fallen soldiers. Smoke drifted across the scene, and the air was thick with the smell of blood and fire.
But that wasn’t all. A wave of scorching heat swept across the battlefield, burning everything.
“Aaaargh!”
“Wh-what is it!? Ack!!”
“Kraaah!”
Rumble.
The center of the explosion was now a giant scar on the field, as if a giant had struck it with an axe. The ground shook.
All fighting in Luthphelheim stopped at the same time.
Everyone looked at the cracked field. Logan narrowed his eyes, seeing what had happened first.
‘…He got away.’
Even though the souls of the Black Knights were fading after the time was up, Logan could sense the Emperor’s soul moving away from the battlefield.
If he can control space, it’s impossible to hurt him with just physical force, but he was still seriously injured…
‘To think he still had mana left. What a tough bastard.’
Logan clicked his tongue in disappointment. Then, movement started again in the great explosion.
It was the Black Knights who were still on the wall.
“Emperor!”
“Empire!”
“Death!”
A loud crash shook the ground.
Suddenly, everyone saw black knights rushing forward. The knights were attacking the Imperial soldiers. Before, the Allied soldiers were just watching the explosions, confused. Now, they woke up and knew they had to fight!
At the same time, many explosions blew up the eastern wall. The middle of the wall crashed down!
“It’s collapsing!” someone yelled. “Get out of the way!” another voice screamed. In all the chaos, a bright golden light shot up from one part of the wall that was still standing. It looked like a tower of gold reaching for the sky.
“The Emperor has run away!” a voice boomed. “We, Mac Laine, have won!” The shout was so loud, it cut through all the noise of the battle. It was amazing anyone could hear anything in such chaos.
The Imperial soldiers didn’t think about *how* the shout was heard. They only heard *what* was said. *We have lost.* Those words hit them hard. They felt only despair. Everything was lost.
Soldiers jumped wildly from the parts of the wall that were still standing. Soldiers who lived through the wall falling were screaming. Some were still trying to run, even with blood gushing like fountains from their cut arms and legs. They just wanted to live.
As Logan shouted victory, the Imperial army started to fall apart. It was like a sandcastle washed away by a wave. Soldiers threw down their weapons and ran. The fight was gone from them.
But not everyone gave up. A few knights were still strong. They loved the Emperor and the Empire like crazy people. They tried to get the other soldiers to fight again, or at least retreat together. They didn’t want the Empire to fall.
“Keeugh.”
The Imperial Knight, Gigs, forcibly roused his mortally wounded body, using what little Force he had left.
‘I can’t end it like this.’
The enemy king was before his eyes.
He was no match for the one who had withstood the aftermath of the clash with His Majesty the Emperor. Far from being a match, his life would easily be cut short by just a fraction of the power contained in the light that he had scattered into the air a moment ago.
But even so.
‘I must show the spirit of an Imperial Knight.’
Gigs steeled himself for death.
No, the amount of blood he had already shed was enough to be fatal. He was merely clinging to life by scraping together what little Force he had left.
In other words, he was doomed to die anyway.
If his sacrifice could give even a little courage to his retreating allies, he would gladly give his life.
‘For the Empire! It was the only thing that mattered to him now.’
The ideology that he had engraved in his heart since he was a mere soldier, his firm resolve, infused strength into his body, which had already exceeded its limits.
Gigs spat out that resolve and burned his last will of life.
“For the Empire!!”
His sword, imbued with all his energy, rippled with red Force and was swung towards the enemy king.
Slice. And blood spurted out.
Gigs saw that his sword had shallowly cut the ‘monster’s’ cheek.
And the sight of the opponent’s red eyes shaking violently.
‘…Huh?!’
A situation unexpected by both the attacker and the attacked.
‘What is this…?’
For a moment, Gigs thought that some superhuman power had been imbued in his sword, which he had swung thinking it was his last.
But that was only for a moment, and he soon realized the reality.
‘That’s not it. He’s… weakened.’
He didn’t know why.
He had no way of knowing how the enemy, who had defeated His Majesty the Emperor and emitted a light that pierced the sky, had been wounded by his sword.
But the thought of seizing this opportunity, the thought of having to let this fact be known, dominated his soul in an instant.
“The enemy is…!”
Exhausted.
Just as he was about to shout that, a chilling sensation swept through his entire body.
“…Exh…”
*Splat.* Gigs only got out one sound before he fell apart in two pieces. Behind him, the female knight, Eileen, stood with her sword. She had saved Logan. She smiled, but her face was pale and drawn, like she was completely worn out. “I’ve taken care of the Steel Magician,” she said, her voice quiet.
Logan’s face had been white as a ghost, but now some color came back. He gave a small, weak smile. “Good work,” he whispered.
Logan was still weak from using his special power. All his energy was gone. That’s when Gigs attacked and almost hurt him badly. He was very close to losing, even though he had almost won the war! Eileen gently held him up because he was about to fall from relief.
“Get your strength back quickly,” she said quietly. “The soldiers are watching.”
“Thank you,” Logan said. Inside, he felt tired and worried, but he made his face look strong for everyone else. He used his Force Core to get a little bit of energy back. He had to look like he was in charge.
The other powerful fighters on Logan’s side came to him. “Sorry, Your Majesty,” one said. “I missed the Frostwind Magician. The Shadow Magician died stopping him…”
“I fought four Imperial Guard superhumans,” another boasted. “I got three of them! Viktor got one!”
“Hey, *I* got two!” Viktor argued. “You only got one! And you missed Jerome Dicade because you went off on your own!”
“Hey!” the first one started to say angrily.
*Thump! Thump!* *Scratch. Scratch.* In the corner, the three golems were still writing on the wall, but no one paid attention.
“Where’s Burdel?” Logan asked, looking around for another of his best fighters. Just then, a voice came from behind him. “He chased after the Imperial soldiers who ran away. He said he’ll defeat thousands more of them.” It was Wiken Kalia. He seemed to float towards them, surrounded by swirling silver wind.
Wiken went on, “Luther is telling the soldiers what to do to finish the battle here. The army from the South Gate is now inside the city. The Iron Wall and Tsunami Magicians are with them.”
“Thank you for all you’ve done, Duke Wiken,” Logan said. Wiken knelt down, looking sad. “I am so sorry I was late, Your Majesty,” he said. Even though Logan praised him, Wiken stayed kneeling, his face full of regret. He looked at the eastern wall, now broken in the middle, and the ground, which was ripped apart like after a huge earthquake. He really wished he had been there for the biggest fight. But even though he was sad about missing the battle, you could see the happiness in his eyes. They had won!
