The Imperial Army is getting bigger as they move east. They are finding soldiers from the old Eastern Legion again. But because of the rumors, they are not as many soldiers as we thought. People are still saying that soldiers are running away.
A smile spread across Logan’s face when he heard Damian’s report.
“The rumors are working! This war will be easier than I thought,” Logan said, sounding confident.
Damian spoke calmly and said something different, “Even so, we think the Imperial Army has over 300,000 soldiers. It might even be 350,000.”
Logan kept smiling. “I thought it would be more than 400,000, so that’s good news. That’s enough.”
Logan was very confident, especially since McLane’s army in Luthspellheim had less than 150,000 soldiers. They had won battles, but they had also lost soldiers. The five groups of legion-level forces had become three. And 20,000 of those soldiers were from the Kingdom Alliance. This meant McLane’s own soldiers were less than half the size of the enemy’s army.
But everyone there was confident.
Luther joked, “The other army is not much bigger than us. This will be an easy fight!” This was the best situation they had been in during the wars with the Empire.
Eileen, sitting next to Logan and stroking Tyr, agreed. Tyr purred as if he felt good. “The Emperor and seven other strong fighters are left in the Empire. Maybe there are one or two more hiding somewhere.”
Geom-gong smiled and added, “His Majesty will fight the Emperor, and I will fight the Frostwind Magician. Even the weakest of us can beat the legion commanders. So we will have extra people to help.”
Someone felt guilty when they heard that.
“Are you saying I’m the weakest…?”
“Who else would it be?”
“Hey! You’re the weak one!”
“Should we fight for real for once?”
“Anytime!”
Luther and Wiken started arguing like they always did.
No one paid attention to them. They were used to it.
Everyone felt confident.
But not everyone was completely sure.
Damian spoke cautiously, “The Cassel Magic Tower is a problem. Now that they are trapped, they might join the war.”
Logan nodded. “They will probably help in some way. But if there’s a problem…”
“The Tower Lord, who is a Great Mage, and his mages might fight us directly,” Damian said.
“That’s right,” Logan agreed.
This meant their strong fighters might not be stronger anymore.
But Logan looked calm. “Even if that happens, I will fight the Emperor and the Tower Lord.”
It sounded like he was bragging, but no one argued. Logan had done so many amazing things since he took Luthspellheim.
Also, the soldiers were starting to worship him more and more. They felt better just by hearing his messages. Everyone believed that Logan had become even stronger.
No one thought that an army led by Logan could be beaten by an army that was only two or three times bigger.
Besides, the Great Magic Circle and Liberatio were still working well, and they still had the repeating crossbows.
So what was left?
“I heard there are only five mages left in the Cassel Magic Tower. We should have more mages than them, right, Ronian?” Logan asked suddenly.
Ronian, who had been thinking to himself in the corner, looked surprised and raised his head.
“Ah, yes! Yes, Brother. Actually, there are only four. ‘She’ won’t fight.”
Damian looked happy. “So we have more mages than them, including Lord Latin of Teronan and Lord Gustav.”
“Don’t forget Lord ‘Haymon,’ Damian. He will be very helpful against the mages of the Cassel Magic Tower,” Logan said.
“Ah, that’s right.” Damian remembered Harman, who was spreading rumors about being a messenger of God. Harman didn’t want to be connected to the temple anymore, so he wanted to completely hide who he really was. Logan agreed and made his fake identity real. He became a temporary commander, just to fight the mages of the Cassel Magic Tower.
Damian thought, ‘It’s not likely that an Aura User will suddenly appear.’ He was happy to have Harman on their side.
“Good. How are we getting ready?” Logan asked.
“The soldiers are training less and resting to get ready for the war. They are very happy because of you,” someone answered.
“We have enough Liberatio and magazines, and enough food,” someone else said.
“The Great Magic Circle is working well,” another person reported.
The reports made everyone in the room feel even more confident.
Then, someone gave another report that made them even more confident.
“We don’t need to worry about the people in Luthspellheim. They are starting to worship you. I’ve never seen people in a conquered land so easy to control.”
“The soldiers are not acting strange after the war. No one has broken the rules recently.”
The soldiers were getting ready better than anyone expected.
Everyone looked at Logan with trust because he had made all of this happen. They didn’t worry about having fewer soldiers anymore.
Logan felt the confidence in the room.
‘I’ve done everything I can. More than that,’ he thought.
Logan clenched his fist and felt determined. “Good. When will the Imperial Army arrive?”
“They haven’t moved from Regal in three days, so they must be getting the army ready. We are still finding out more, but it seems like things are not going as they planned,” someone answered.
“When will they leave Regal?” Logan asked.
“It will take them a week to get here, even with a big army,” someone said.
“Okay. We don’t have much time. Get everything ready. Here in Luthspellheim, I will defeat the Emperor and the Empire, and start a thousand years of peace for McLane!” Logan declared.
“Yes!”
“Glory to McLane!”
“Respect to the Unquenchable Flame!”
The voices in the office became louder after Logan’s declaration.
“Your Majesty.”
“Brother.”
Logan turned around when he heard Victoria and Ronian calling him as he left the office. They looked embarrassed.
Ria had been worried during the meeting, and his brother seemed to have many concerns.
He was planning to talk to them after training, but they spoke first.
“Lord Ronian, you go first…” Victoria said.
“No, Ria, you go first…” Ronian replied.
The two of them were awkward because one was a lord’s brother and the other was a friend’s brother.
“Ronian, you speak first,” Logan said.
Logan watched his brother, Ronian. Ronian, usually so strong, now looked like a child who was scared to speak.
The sight of Ronian, a big man hesitating like a shy child, made Logan feel uneasy.
“Why are you so worried? Is it about the war?” Logan asked.
“Maybe… yes. To be honest, Logan, I don’t know if I should even tell you this now,” Ronian replied.
“What is it?” Logan asked, pressing him.
“It’s the last information she passed on.”
“She…? Ah, Princess Louisa?”
“Yes.”
“And why is that…? Wait, don’t tell me, you’ve been in contact with Princess Louisa all this time? Even after that incident?” Logan asked, dismayed.
His brother avoided his gaze.
“It started because I thought it would help the kingdom, but somehow it just ended up…” Ronian trailed off, his face flushing with embarrassment.
‘Well, fancy that?’ Logan thought, utterly dumbfounded.
He wanted to say so many things, but now was not the time to discipline his brother.
“Wait, are you going to talk about your own problems now?” Logan asked.
“No, it’s not about *us*,” Ronian said quickly. “I mean… her last words were important. They were like a bad sign.”
He waved his hands dismissively, his words tumbling over each other, which did little to inspire confidence.
Even in the midst of all this, the way he glanced around cautiously suggested the matter was indeed serious.
Logan stamped his foot lightly, conjuring a golden barrier that enveloped all three of them.
“Now, speak freely. Nothing said within this barrier will ever leak out,” Logan said firmly.
“Surely you don’t distrust Lia, do you?” Logan asked, his brow furrowed involuntarily, causing Victoria, who had been silent until now, to flinch.
Seeing this, Ronian visibly panicked and hastily continued.
“No, it’s not that! It’s just that I’m not entirely sure myself… Anyway, let me explain.”
Ronian swallowed hard and began to speak.
“The Master of the Cassel Magic Tower is said to be conducting a ritual at some location that requires large-scale magical facilities. All of the Tower’s reserve forces have been gathered and sent there, and she was among them.”
“Hoh?” Logan responded, intrigued.
“She suspected it was a summoning ritual for Jibrik Cassel. And she left me the location of where she was last headed.”
Logan’s eyes widened at those words.
A summoning ritual for Jibrik Cassel? This was information that could not be ignored.
“However, I hesitated to tell you because the timing didn’t seem right. And also…”
“You weren’t sure if you could trust her?”
“Yes.” Ronian nodded with difficulty.
In truth, he could trust Louisa.
However, he didn’t want to put personal feelings, which had no basis whatsoever, ahead of such an important matter.
From the start, the other elders, that is, the other mages of the Cassel Magic Tower, had headed towards the Imperial Army, but she alone had been sent there, and he had suppressed his personal worries about this.
‘She’s not someone who would be easily defeated,’ he thought.
With that belief, he would only convey the objective information that the kingdom and his brother needed right now.
After a moment of contemplation, Logan spoke.
“But the last piece of information? Are you saying you haven’t been able to contact her since then?”
“Yes.”
“And you’re not implying that you want to go and save her?”
At the unexpected, sharp question, Ronian flinched. He didn’t want to show his flustered emotions, but his instinctive reaction was unavoidable.
Watching him, Logan sighed softly and shook his head firmly.
“Even if that information is true, we can’t spare anyone in the current situation. That’s a problem we can only consider after the war.”
“I know,” Ronian answered, a little late.
And at that moment, Ronian realized his true feelings.
The reason he had brought up this story, even though he had already anticipated this answer.
‘I wanted to go and save her,’ he admitted to himself.
Black hair and snow-white skin, blue eyes shining even more vividly against the contrast of black and white.
A woman who boasted such outstanding beauty that her somewhat cold impression only made her more attractive.
Only then did he realize that she occupied a larger place in his heart than he had thought.
“You, this rascal. Don’t tell me…!”
And seeing his brother’s surprised expression, he could realize one more thing.
‘Ah, he reads souls…’
That his embarrassing and absurd feelings had been exposed to his brother.
Even so, Ronian could only shake his head.
“No, it’s not like that, Brother.”
“What’s not like that…?”
“I am also a knight. Whatever it is, absolutely not. My family, our house, the kingdom comes first, Brother,” Ronian said, the words spat out in a resolute tone, as if trying to engrave them in his heart.
But Logan could only fall silent at those words, which somehow sounded sad.
Soon, their red eyes met in the air.
A moment of silence passed, and then Logan sighed and spoke again.
“Alright. I trust you know what takes priority, Roni,” Logan said.
An affectionate nickname that he hadn’t heard in a long time, since he became an adult.
The touch of his brother’s hand patting his shoulder felt unusually heavy today.
However, Ronian forced himself to compose himself and nodded.
“Of course, Brother. No, Your Majesty.”
Logan continued in a calm voice.
“Well, it’s not like we necessarily have to go. Contact the Saintess and tell her the location. If it’s a summoning ritual for Jibrik Cassel, there will be people who will rush in without hesitation.”
“Bro, Brother!?”
“Make sure to tell them that the informant is Louisa von Aserian. If, by any chance, Princess Louisa is in trouble, the temple might be able to save her. Well, that’s only if the information is true, though.”
“Ah…!”
The moment an unexpected solution came from his brother’s mouth, Ronian felt his heavy heart lighten considerably.
“So, for now, it’s best to just focus on crushing the Empire. We can figure out a way to deal with it after that,” Logan said.
“Yes, Brother!” Ronian, filled with fighting spirit.
Logan, who was looking at his brother with a satisfied expression, smiled at each other, their smiles almost identical, and strode forward with vigor.
“Your Majesty, what about my story…?” Unbeknownst to them, the youngest mage, left alone, was making a tearful face.
