Hwaaaah!
The Blood Demon Cultist’s eyes went wide, like they might burst from his face.
Where his enemy had stood just a second ago, there was now a swirl of red flower petals. They looked like they had bloomed from nowhere.
“An illusion? Or some kind of sword trick?” the Cultist thought, his mind racing.
“Terrible,” he thought, feeling a chill despite himself.
The Blood Demon Cultist’s ugly sword stopped for a moment, then swung again. This time, it was even stronger.
It was a strange sword move. But even a quick look showed that the power inside wasn’t that strong. Even if he hid himself with that weird sword energy, the person behind it wouldn’t vanish. He could just cut through the energy.
“Die!”
But then, the red flower petals around Yoon Jong burst out like a whirlwind.
Pahaaa!
“What?”
Before they could react, the storm of sword energy pierced the Blood Demon Cultists.
Scritch! Scritch! Scritch!
The flower petals swept the Blood Demon Cultists away, throwing them backward.
Their bodies, usually as tough as rubber and hard to cut, were easily pierced by the thin flower petal sword energy.
Thud! Thud!
The cultists slammed into the ground and rolled.
“Hoo.”
Yoon Jong stood up straight, though he had been crouching low. He wasn’t breathing hard, but sweat poured down his face like rain.
Even though it was just one strong sword strike, he felt like he could collapse. It was as if everything inside him had been drained.
“Heeuh……”
He heard a Blood Demon Cultist’s voice. The cultist had fallen.
“Damn bastard. Playing tricks.”
The cultists, covered in black holes, were getting up as if nothing had happened.
Yoon Jong’s eyes darkened for a moment. The strange tentacles were wriggling in the black holes.
‘Did I fail?’
He wasn’t sure. He couldn’t explain what he had done.
“Not bad for a last try.”
The Blood Demon Cultist facing Yoon Jong wiped his mouth. The wriggling tentacles in his cheek made Yoon Jong feel sick.
“You’re just non-believers.”
Even before their wounds healed, the Blood Demon Cultists came at Yoon Jong again. They didn’t seem to care about the holes in their bodies, which made Yoon Jong feel trapped.
“Those who don’t have the cult’s blessing can’t beat us. You’ll regret not joining sooner……”
The Blood Demon Cultist was speaking slowly, but then he stopped.
He wasn’t the only one. The others surrounding Yoon Jong stopped too.
‘What is it?’
Yoon Jong was confused. But the Blood Demon Cultists looked even more confused.
“What… Ugh! Urgh!”
The Blood Demon Cultist in the middle grabbed his chest and fell to his knees. He vomited black blood, filling a bowl.
“Th, this is…? Ugh!”
The Blood Demon Cultist vomited again and looked at his body in horror. The wounds that had been healing started bleeding again. It was like the miracles they had shown were reversing, and the wounds were getting worse quickly.
“The cult, the cult’s blessing?”
The Blood Demon Cultist’s eyes shook. He was terrified.
“Th, this is ridiculous!”
Maybe it was because his wounds were opening, or because the tentacles weren’t moving, but the Blood Demon Cultist’s hand trembled.
“You! What did you do… Urgh!”
The Blood Demon Cultist vomited thick, black blood again.
“Haa! Haa! Haa!”
The Blood Demon Cultist gasped for air and looked at Yoon Jong again. His eyes were filled with fear.
The Blood Demon Cultist bit his lip hard, as if struggling with something.
“Retreat.”
“Yes? But…”
“Retreat!”
The Blood Demon Cultists nodded.
They glared at Yoon Jong, then slowly backed away and ran.
“There…!”
Yoon Jong started to chase them, but then stopped and calmed down.
‘Stay calm.’
If they can’t heal anymore, they’re not that hard to beat. Even Yoon Jong could handle them alone. But it was too soon to say they had lost their strange power.
Besides, he wasn’t there to defeat them.
“Hoo……”
Yoon Jong took a deep breath and looked at his sword. It looked normal. But something felt different.
‘No. It’s not different.’
He didn’t know what divine energy was, but he knew it was inside him.
Swish.
Yoon Jong put his sword away. It wasn’t the time to think about it.
“Are you all right?”
“Oh… Ah! Yes!”
The injured men nodded quickly.
“Is the Chief alright?”
“I’m a bit of a mess… But I’ll be okay.”
The Heavenly Union members nodded.
“We should treat your injuries, but we don’t have time. There are no more enemies here, so please go up the mountain and help the others.”
“Yes. Chief… Ah, no, Deputy Chief! What about you, Deputy Chief?”
“I have to help other places.”
Yoon Jong held his sword tightly.
Just because he could use divine energy didn’t change much. He couldn’t control it yet.
But he felt more confident. Maybe it was because he knew he had something special inside him.
“Then.”
“Please be careful.”
“Thank you.”
Yoon Jong bowed politely and flew away. As he disappeared, the others sighed.
“Are you all right?”
“Yes, Brother. But…”
The man touched the cut on his shoulder and smiled sadly.
‘We were running away with ten people.’
That person jumped in alone and beat everyone. Someone younger than us.
“Hwasan’s Five Swords. Yoon Jong, right?”
Everyone knew him. He was the Deputy Chief of one of the Heavenly Union’s five groups. If a member didn’t know him, they’d be called a spy and killed.
But the Yoon Jong he knew was just someone who didn’t stand out among the Five Swords. He was just famous because of his age and training.
‘That person?’
He laughed. It wasn’t that he was hidden among the Five Swords, but that the others were so good that he didn’t get attention.
“I see now how wrong the rumors are.”
“I know what you mean.”
The Heavenly Union members sighed and stood up. They had to help the others, like Yoon Jong said.
“Let’s go up.”
“Yes.”
The man turned and looked where Yoon Jong had gone.
‘But what was that?’
The last sword he used had a strange energy. Something warm, clear, and special.
“What are you doing?”
“I’m going.”
The injured men found their strength and started climbing the mountain.
“Damn it! Damn it!”
“Focus.”
“Aaargh! It’s not easy!”
Jo Gul cursed and swung his sword.
Stopping them wasn’t just about blocking their attacks, but about stopping them from attacking at all. But these guys didn’t care about losing limbs or getting stabbed.
Stopping them from moving was hard. Jo Gul could barely do it.
But he was still able to fight them because…
Scritch!
“Well done.”
“What did I do?”
No matter how well Jo Gul held them down, Yoo Iseol could always cut off their heads.
“Dodge.”
“Damn it!”
Jo Gul rolled away. Several ugly swords stuck into the ground where he had been.
‘Damn bastards!’
He could beat one enemy easily, but there were too many that could only be stopped by cutting off their heads.
Jo Gul was covered in sweat. It was just a small fight, but he was scared to think what would happen if these guys were in a real battle.
“You’re breathing hard.”
“I know. Damn it!”
Jo Gul tried to calm down. Compared to Yoo Iseol, who wasn’t even breathing hard, he was too excited.
“How dare these guys!”
The Blood Demon Cultists’ eyes glowed red. The deaths of their friends had made them angry.
‘They’re not that skilled.’
Well, their sword skills weren’t everything. If their strange bodies were a kind of energy skill, then they were strong.
“I’ll tear you apart!”
The cultists growled and came closer. They seemed crazy, but they were careful.
If they weren’t careful, they’d be beheaded. So they were planning to attack at once.
‘Not good.’
Jo Gul frowned. Their ugly swords could cut you just by touching you. They had to cut off the enemy’s head in one hit. If the enemy attacked together, someone would get hurt, and those swords would tear them apart.
‘If we had more people… It was a mistake to come with just two of us.’
He had made a mistake by not knowing how strong the enemy was. But now wasn’t the time to think about that.
“Sa-hyung. Will it work?”
“It has to. It has to work.”
“I thought I was the strongest in Hwasan.”
He felt like others were taking his strengths.
“They’re coming.”
“Damn it!”
Jo Gul put all his energy into his sword. He wasn’t good at strong attacks, but he needed to cut through their tough necks. His sword wasn’t as graceful as Yoo Iseol’s.
“Come on! I’ll cut off all your heads!”
Just as Jo Gul was about to attack…
Pahaaa!
“Huh?”
“Hmm?”
Plum blossom petals swirled above them.
“Sa, Sa-hyung! It’s no use! That won’t work…”
Jo Gul saw Yoon Jong and shouted. Hadn’t they already seen that this sword didn’t work?
But then…
“Kraaah!”
“Wh, what is it? This!”
The enemies grabbed their bodies and fell. They screamed in a way the others had never heard before.
“It works?”
Jo Gul blinked. The tentacles weren’t rising from their bodies.
