Lee Han, looking very annoyed, pushed Professor Verdus ahead of him.
“Who are you hiding behind now?” Lee Han asked, his voice sharp.
Just then, Professor Voladi, Alsicl, Yukbeltire, and even the Death Knights arrived late.
“Good heavens. So many escorts?! Well, I suppose it’s understandable,” Avalkaigen said, immediately understanding the situation.
Of course, Professor Verdus would need a large escort. In some ways, this seemed like a small number.
“Still, the people of Einrogard certainly cherish Professor Verdus. They are remarkable people.”
Alsicl looked deeply displeased as he declared, “I am not an Einrogard wizard.”
To be mistaken for an Einrogard wizard, and to be thought of as cherishing Professor Verdus?
“And I didn’t come as an escort. I came to see if you were behaving yourselves… no, I came because of the magic.”
Alsicl caught himself just in time. A wizard from the Pengaerin family couldn’t very well say he’d come to watch someone crawl around on all fours.
“I am an Einrogard wizard, but I do not cherish the professor,” Yukbeltire said.
“Oh? Aren’t you Princess Yukbeltire?” Avalkaigen asked, recognizing her face.
As a wizard from the Buyeo Magic School, he knew Yukbeltire. Wasn’t she a rising star from Einrogard, greatly anticipated?
And also Professor Verdus’s top disciple!
“I don’t cherish him either,” Professor Voladi clarified, stepping forward.
The Death Knights, now the only people who might cherish Professor Verdus, hastily explained, “We’re just following orders!”
“My apologies. I didn’t realize everyone disliked him so much,” Avalkaigen said, feeling contrite.
He hadn’t expected the people from Einrogard to be so repulsed.
“More importantly, if he’s been working since his first year… is he a fourth-year? Why haven’t I heard of him?” Avalkaigen asked, turning his gaze back to Lee Han, puzzled.
If he was helping with magic, he would be a fourth-year, and if he had been helping Professor Verdus since his first year, his talent would be certain…
Was there such a student in the Einrogard Buyeo Magic School?
“A little lower.”
“Lower? Ah. You mean his year? Is he a third-year?!”
“A little lower…”
Avalkaigen scanned the Einrogard people with shock and horror.
Some, like Professor Voladi and Yukbeltire, remained nonchalant, but Alsicl and the Death Knights avoided his gaze, feeling guilty.
“What in the world are you people doing?!”
“Calm down, Avalkaigen,” Professor Verdus said from the floor, trying to mediate as if it were none of his concern, causing Avalkaigen to shout even louder.
“When you get right down to it, it’s all your fault!”
“Calm down. What good will it do to get angry at Professor Verdus?” Puyo tried to calm him, and Avalkaigen’s heavy breathing gradually subsided.
“And that boy from the Wodanaz family has outstanding skills regardless of his year. He even helped me with my work last year.”
Lee Han wondered inwardly, ‘Is that so?’
Frankly, it seemed like the Einrogard professors had forced him a bit…
“You assigned him work too, Professor?!” Avalkaigen seemed shocked in a different way.
Could it be that Puyo, whom he somewhat respected, was doing the same thing as Professor Verdus?
“Ah, no. I’m different from Professor Verdus. I strictly assign tasks that match their level…”
“How long are you going to chatter? Let’s just start the magic,” Professor Verdus said from the floor, sounding bothered.
As Avalkaigen’s attention shifted, Puyo breathed a sigh of relief. He had almost let his reputation be hurt because of Professor Verdus.
“Alright… wait a moment. Did you say the Wodanaz family?!” Avalkaigen asked, belatedly realizing, and was shocked once more.
Seeing this, Puyo tried to soothe him, saying that the family wasn’t important.
“Wasn’t he a fifth-year?!”
“Well, I don’t know what rumors you’ve heard,” Professor Verdus said, annoyed by their conversation.
“I said, let’s start the magic!”
“Alright!” Avalkaigen shouted back at Professor Verdus before preparing the magic.
It seemed that the disciple from the Wodanaz family was qualified to attend this gathering.
Princess Yukbeltire had proven her outstanding talent since long ago, so there was nothing more to say…
“But who is that one?”
Avalkaigen stiffened at Professor Verdus’s gesture towards his disciple.
He had been so busy talking about the unexpected guests that he hadn’t explained anything about his own disciple.
“This is my disciple, Avalkarn. Say hello.”
“H-hello,” the Orc wizard said shyly. He had been standing blankly in the corner, unable to join the conversation.
He was so physically imposing that people often mistook him for a warrior, but this Orc was a wizard with outstanding talent, so much so that his master cherished him greatly.
Avalkaigen’s affection for his disciple was very deep, as he had raised him from the moment he found him abandoned as a baby.
“Alright. I understand,” Professor Verdus nodded and turned his gaze away. He seemed utterly uninterested.
In fact, given Professor Verdus’s personality, it was a natural reaction. Unless they made a mistake when starting the magic, the teapot next to him and the Orc wizard were the same to the professor.
But that reaction hurt Avalkaigen’s pride.
Once you dislike someone, you dislike everything they do.
“He will be helping with this magic.”
“Alright.”
“Aren’t you going to ask? What kind of wizard he is?”
“Why should I ask?” Professor Verdus asked as if he genuinely didn’t understand.
Asking Professor Verdus, who didn’t even ask his own disciples questions, to ask about someone else’s disciple was too much to ask.
Puyo quickly stepped in, worried that Avalkaigen might spread Professor Verdus’s personal information to the Empire’s bounty hunters and assassins.
“Since we’re here, let’s briefly introduce our disciples to each other before we start.”
“Why?” Professor Verdus blatantly showed his dislike.
He wanted to quickly exchange magic and go their separate ways, so why introduce disciples he had no interest in?
Puyo looked at the professor’s disciples, asking for their help.
Lee Han hesitated before looking at Professor Voladi, asking for help.
“Come with me for a moment,” Professor Voladi said.
“Why?”
Professor Voladi ignored the question and dragged Professor Verdus to the second floor. Lee Han could feel the waves of magic coming from the second floor. It was a soundproofing spell.
A moment later, Professor Verdus returned, looking even more dejected.
“Introduce your disciples…”
Puyo stared at Lee Han with astonishment. He had asked him to persuade him as a disciple!
Lee Han was unashamed. ‘I’m sorry. I’m not confident.’
It was impossible to persuade Professor Verdus with words.
“Avalkarn, show them what you’ve been working on recently.”
“H-here it is,” the Orc wizard said shyly, taking out a strangely shaped mirror.
The frame was decorated with ancient-style gold ornaments, carvings of animals and plants, and the mirror’s surface was made of bronze, with new patterns of magic spreading from within whenever light touched it, swirling and glowing.
Yukbeltire was thrilled by the artifact, which was clearly superior to the artifacts she had created.
“H-h-how c…”
“Senior, that’s an ancient artifact. He must have repaired it, not made it himself…”
“Ah,” Yukbeltire said, immediately understanding.
Alsicl, who was listening, asked, “It’s obviously an ancient artifact… did you think he made that himself?”
Having been around monstrous wizards lately, her common sense had slightly collapsed.
Yukbeltire’s fingertips trembled with humiliation.
“Avalkarn repaired it.”
“Amazing. It’s not easy to repair ancient artifacts like this,” Puyo said, honestly impressed. He could see why Avalkaigen cherished his disciple so much.
The current magic system of the Empire was quite different from the ancient magic system. It was a form that had been built up and changed over a long period.
Because of this, it was more difficult for the Empire’s wizards to restore ancient artifacts. It was often difficult to even guess what some of the damaged spells were.
Therefore, wizards who specialized in ancient artifacts had to have excellent magical abilities to replace them with Imperial magic if necessary, extensive historical knowledge to find and restore the necessary magic from ancient documents, and the connections and tact to visit and beg great wizards who knew the magic of that era.
“Is that Avalkain’s Bronze Mirror? I knew you had acquired it, but I didn’t expect you to complete it so quickly.”
“Thank you for the compliment.”
“Not just anyone can engrave Avalkain’s diffraction magic to such a high level. You should be proud. Professor Verdus, what about your disciple?”
As Avalkaigen’s disciple introduction ended, Puyo called out to Professor Verdus.
Professor Verdus’s voice came from under the table. “Go on. Introduce them.”
“Ah, no. You should introduce them… why are you asking the disciples to introduce themselves directly? Do you perhaps not know what your disciples have been doing lately?”
“Huh? Yeah.”
The old building fell silent with contempt. Avalkaigen felt the wariness he had towards Professor Verdus’s disciples disappear, replaced by sympathy.
He had been worried that they might be better than his own disciple, but after hearing him speak, he no longer had to worry about that.
“Show us what you’ve been working on recently,” the Wood Elf hybrid wizard said with a tired voice.
Lee Han glanced at his staff. ‘Is this too simple?’
Of course, making this staff was a great achievement, but since he had received so much help from the spirits, he wondered if he should take it out.
“Senior, don’t you have anything better?”
Yukbeltire, who was about to take out the Adamantite Plate, looked at her junior with a puzzled expression.
If they were asking about what she had been working on recently, she should naturally talk about this achievement of fusing the Dimensional Rod and Refraction, what else was there to talk about?
“Ah. Were you going to talk about this? I received so much help from my master that I was thinking about something else… no. Let’s talk about this!” Lee Han said, noticing the senior’s fingertips trembling again and realizing his mistake.
That wizard Avalkarn probably did magic with his master’s help, so there was no need to be so strict.
“I don’t need it. I’ll take out something I didn’t get help with, so wait a moment.”
“Ah. Why are you really doing this?”
Yukbeltire stubbornly checked the list of artifacts she had recently made.
As the two seemed to be arguing, Avalkaigen asked out of curiosity, “What are you talking about?”
“Senior is embarrassed about what she’s been working on recently and doesn’t want to take it out.”
“A wizard shouldn’t hide their work. Professor Verdus, didn’t you teach them that?”
“Didn’t teach them?”
“I’m an idiot for saying that. Anyway, take it out.” Lee Han snatched the Adamantite Plate from his senior’s hand and placed it on the table.
Avalkaigen’s face turned pale as he stared at the Adamantite Plate. Intricate lines of glowing silver magic pulsed across its dark, metallic surface, like captured lightning frozen in place. He had never seen magic so powerfully concentrated.
“N-no way! You two did this together?!”
“Right? You think it’s impossible too, don’t you?” Professor Verdus’s voice seemed to brighten from under the table.
Avalkaigen, while horrified, asked, unable to understand, “Wh-why is that person like that?”
“Ah. You can ignore him. The professor said he would crawl on all fours if we completed it.”
For a moment, Avalkaigen was about to say, ‘I could crawl on all fours if my disciple completed this,’ but he caught himself. His disciple was still next to him.
