Dirette was about to ask a spirit to paint when an idea popped into her head.
“By the way, junior.”
“Yes?”
“Didn’t you say you got a key last time by talking to Professor Verdus?”
“Wouldn’t it be better to just smash it open?”
“……”
“Senior, I was just joking.”
“Who would think that was a joke!”
Dirette scolded her junior. Leehan looked sheepish.
Leehan explained again.
“I did get the key to the underground warehouse, but it’s only for the warehouses that store materials and reagents. To get into the professor’s workshop, we still have to break through these golems.”
“I see.”
Dirette nodded, but she still wondered if Leehan’s key really didn’t fit the passage to the underground workshop.
They reached Professor Verdus’s workshop on the first underground floor. The heavy metal door loomed before them, cold and uninviting.
Jo-Orin bounced on his toes, his eyes wide with excitement. “Professor Baegreg!” he yelled, “Smash this door too! Go on, smash it!”
Professor Voladi gently shook his head, his voice calm but firm. “Your Highness,” he said, “this door is different. It cannot be smashed.”
He explained, “The golems outside were one thing – they had weaknesses. But this workshop… Professor Verdus really didn’t want anyone getting in here.” Professor Voladi gestured to the door with a worried look. “If we just touch it the wrong way, it could set off alarms all over the tower.”
Dirette stepped forward, placing a hand on Jo-Orin’s shoulder to calm him. “Yucbertire,” she said, turning to the older student, “this is where you can help us.”
As Professor Verdus’s student, Yucbertire knew the magic that was cast and would surely explain it in detail.
If they could figure out the magic, they could break through it with Professor Baegreg.
“Yucbertire, what kind of magic is on this?”
“I don’t know.”
“…What?”
While Dirette was speechless, Yucbertire took out a workshop key he had secretly copied from Professor Verdus.
Then, he opened the door to the underground workshop. Everyone in the group (including Jo-Orin) was speechless.
“…No, when and how did you get that?”
Leehan asked in surprise.
Of course, the defenses of the underground and outer warehouses were also very strong, but that was just the beginning from Professor Verdus’s view.
He would never easily give out the key to the workshop where he kept his truly important works.
If he were caught, he would have changed all the defensive magic in the workshop.
“I got it by chance three years ago.”
“How did you not get caught all this time?”
“Simple. I never used it.”
“……”
Leehan was shocked again.
Yucbertire, who hadn’t used the key for three years, was amazing, but the fact that he was using it now was even more surprising.
“It’s not my place to say this, but… are you sure it’s okay to use it?”
“Look, I’m just helping out a smart kid. Makes sense, right?”
“Ah, yes.”
Jo-Orin, behind Yucbertire, pretended to make horns on his head with his front paws. Leehan immediately understood what he meant.
-Aren’t you angry?
‘Let’s just say no for now…’
Leehan was slightly worried that he was taking advantage of his senior, who had lost his reason because of anger.
“Professor, what do you thin…”
He was about to ask Professor Voladi, but the professor was nowhere to be seen.
Looking up, Professor Voladi was already inside the workshop, looking for a magical drafting tool.
“…Professor…”
“?”
“It’s nothing.”
Leehan went inside.
Professor Verdus had several workshops of his own, just as a cunning rabbit digs three burrows.
Although great artists have multiple workshops and create in each, Leehan thought that Professor Verdus had multiple workshops to reduce damage when one was raided.
The underground workshop was quite nice.
The quality of the works there was much higher than the workshop Professor Verdus showed to students when working with them.
It seemed that Professor Verdus kept artifacts there that he delivered to others or made according to his own tastes.
‘Shouldn’t he usually show these things to students for teaching?’
“I found it. It’s here.”
Yucbertire called Leehan.
An artifact box with >Bible’s Drafting Tool< written on it was visible on the workbench. “…Isn’t this an artifact that the professor still uses, not one he made in the past?” “?” Yucbertire looked at his junior as if to say, ‘So what?’ Professor Voladi also looked at his student with a ‘What does it matter?’ look. Dirette put his hand on his junior’s shoulder. ‘I understand your feelings.’ ‘Thank you, senior.’ Leehan felt grateful that there was at least one normal person. “It’s nothing. I’ll use it well…” “Wait.” Yucbertire stopped Leehan and explained. The moment someone other than Professor Verdus touched the items on the first underground floor, the magic of the entire magic tower would start. Leehan wondered if he was talking nonsense. “You could put magic on the door, but you put such complicated magic on each and every item?” To make the whole tower's magic start just by touching something, not by stopping or breaking it, would usually take a lot of work. You would have to put tremendous effort into each item to cast the magic. Professor Verdus wasn’t a leisurely person, so there was no way that was possible… Yucbertire answered immediately. “Yes.” “……” Leehan felt Professor Verdus’s extraordinariness again. He didn’t know because he always stole materials, reagents, and sometimes even airships that were being worked on, but the things Professor Verdus was really determined to protect couldn’t be taken easily. ‘And I’m trying to steal the favorite item of such a person.’ Leehan, who had been thinking for about a second, steeled his resolve again. Even if he got caught later, it was right to steal it for now. Especially if the opponent was Professor Verdus. “We’ll have to escape as soon as we grab the item.” “That’s right.” “We can probably take one or two more. Check it out.” “…Perhaps Professor, are you also angry with Professor Verdus… No, it’s nothing.” Leehan was almost overwhelmed by Professor Voladi’s thoroughly profit-seeking appearance. ‘I should watch a little more for now.’ Leaving the drafting tool alone, Leehan looked around the workshop again. Amulet of Aging Resistance ‘Amazing!’ Leehan was impressed by the amulet hanging on the wall. He was not simply admiring its appearance, its craftsmanship, or the sparkle of the jewels, but the intricacy of the magic inside. Just as small gears are connected to form a huge movement, small magics are connected to drive away the user’s old age and bring youth. ‘There’s an explanation written below too.’ Even if it was difficult to steal because of the defensive magic, he wanted to read what Professor Verdus had written. Made by request of the Pengaerin family Delivery deadline 7 years late “……” Just deliver it! Leehan was speechless. With this level of perfection, he felt like he could just give it away, but he had been holding onto it for 7 years. It was strange that the Pengaerin family hadn’t sent an assassin. ‘No. I just don’t know about it, but they might have sent one…’ Upon closer inspection, the other works were similar. Each one was outstanding, beautiful, and had phrases like >Delivery deadline several years late< written below. If you’re late one more time, I’m really going to send you to hell - Oh-Soo If you’re late one more time, I’m really going to make you lecture in the deep disciplinary room - Oh-Soo If you’re late one more time, I’m really going to burn down your workshop and hang you on the castle gates - Oh-Soo If you’re late one more time… What’s wrong with you? Please do your work on time! - Oh-Soo Leehan discovered a thick pile of curse letters and shook his head. It wasn’t easy to feel sorry for the Skull Headmaster, but Professor Verdus was accomplishing that difficult task. Star Guide, Passelt Kraer, for 3rd grade exam Leehan was startled by the giant brass telescope and the name written below it. The exam for the lecture Leehan was taking was here too! Well, Professor Verdus was an outstanding artifact craftsman, so it was natural for other professors to commission exam artifacts. Leehan, who was looking around, stopped and peered at the brass telescope, and the others gathered, wondering what was going on. “What is it?” “Junior, what are you looking at?” Jo-Orin said that there was a bigger and more wonderful telescope than this. His Majesty had it now, but if Leehan needed it… ‘That sobers me up.’ Leehan pressed Jo-Orin’s mouth tightly shut and said. “I was surprised because there was an artifact used for the exam I’m taking.” “Indeed.” “Aha.” “Take it.” “?” Leehan paused, thinking that one of the answers he had just heard was strange. Surprisingly, it was Professor Voladi who had spoken. ‘No. Now that I think about it, it’s not surprising.’ “Professor, this is another professor’s exam.” “Getting it first is also a student’s skill.” Yucbertire agreed with Professor Voladi’s words. “It’s also something Professor Verdus should have prevented.” While Leehan was speechless, Dirette whispered next to him. “Junior.” “Yes. I guess taking this is a bit…” “Let’s just take it. You need to reduce even one more exam.” Iaktus: Professor Verdus’s workshop has been robbed! Professor Verdus’s workshop has been robbed!! Professor Verdus’s workshop has been robbed!!! Beaver-Penguin-Fox: Write only one line. Why are you making such a fuss? It’s not the first time. Iaktus: I must have misread. Not the warehouse, but the workshop was robbed! And it’s the underground workshop! Beaver-Penguin-Fox: …Professor Verdus’s workshop has been robbed!!!! The whispers of Einrogard were like madness, only the words ‘Professor Verdus’s workshop has been robbed’ were constantly being written. It was that surprising. Not the warehouse, not the first floor workshop, but the underground workshop was robbed? Bakwantalana: Professor Verdus had many enemies. He’s paying the price. Iaktus: No. You can’t just say that. Professor Verdus always had many enemies, but his personal workshop has never been robbed. Beaver-Penguin-Fox: Could it be related to the dragon that came this time? With the power of a dragon… Iaktus: No way. He’s a royal. A proper royal who didn’t even enroll in Einrogard. Would such a royal steal? Bakwantalana: Just because you enroll in Einrogard doesn’t mean the royal becomes normal. Iaktus: What. If you enroll in Einrogard, you’re just an Einrogard student. Beaver-Penguin-Fox: I agree. I saw a royal junior once, and he was eating bread more desperately than a beggar in the back alley. Once you enter Einrogard, there’s no such thing as royalty. Leehan, watching carefully, chimed in. Gonadaltes: How did you find out that Professor Verdus’s workshop was robbed? Isn’t it a fake rumor? Iaktus: No. Professor Kraer is trying to kill Professor Verdus right now. Beaver-Penguin-Fox: Didn’t someone steal it and then secretly take it out? Iaktus: Surely not another professor’s item… um… maybe they could. Gonadaltes: Certainly, they could. Bakwantalana: I don’t think so. Gonadaltes: More than that, the Headmaster hasn’t been seen lately, does anyone know why? Leehan asked what he was curious about. Then, curses immediately flew. Iaktus: Everyone is happy that he’s not around, so why are you asking why? Beaver-Penguin-Fox: If you ask and he comes back tomorrow, will you take responsibility? “……”
