What was the most surprising reward given out? It wasn’t Jonathan, the commander of the Knights, or Felix, or Fernando.
Jonathan, Felix, and Fernando getting rewards was expected. But giving Hans, a servant, the title of Baron right after the coronation? That was very surprising.
Hans hadn’t done brave things in war.
Hans was just a servant. Becoming a noble was something he couldn’t understand.
Hans hurried to Roman Dmitry’s office. He found Roman sitting calmly at his desk. Taking a deep breath, Hans spoke.
“…A Baron title?” Hans asked, his voice barely above a whisper. “This reward… it’s too much for me. I really don’t understand.”
Hans’s mind raced. *Baron? Me?* He felt his heart beat fast and his hands were a little shaky. He couldn’t believe it.
People had told him to just accept it, to be happy. But in Hans’s world, nothing was free. Rewards always had a reason. This felt too generous, too unbelievable.
If Hans had done brave things in war, like Chris and Kevin, he would deserve a reward. But while the world was in chaos, Hans was safe and far away from the fighting.
He wanted to know why. He had never wanted to be a noble, so his eyes showed that he was asking for the truth.
“How amusing,” Roman Dmitry chuckled softly, a small smile playing on his lips. “How amusing,” he repeated, his eyes twinkling with amusement.
Most people would be very happy about such a thing, but Hans didn’t take it for granted.
Roman Dmitry said.
“Hans, rewards aren’t just for fighting in wars. During everything that has happened, you have taken care of my life very well. And the person you served is now the Emperor of the Dmitry Empire. Why do you think this reward is too much? If you are going to keep taking care of the Emperor’s life, don’t you think you need a reward and a position that is good enough?”
Hans couldn’t speak.
People said that Hans was lucky.
Even though he was just a servant, the Dmitry family didn’t treat him like one. They respected what Hans did and helped his family live comfortably.
When he started working as a servant, he didn’t think his life would turn out this way.
Servants were usually ignored and seen as tools, but Roman Dmitry treated him like a person.
And now, he was getting a noble title.
Hans felt many strong emotions. He didn’t know what to do or think.
“To give you a title and still ask you to work for me might be selfish of me. Hans, you don’t have to work as a servant anymore if you don’t want to. But if you still want to work for me, I hope you will accept this reward and feel better about it.”
He let Hans choose.
He didn’t force him, but wanted him to choose for himself.
Hans kept biting his lip.
He had never thought about leaving Dmitry, and the fact that he was being respected made him feel like he had received a great gift.
Dmitry had accepted him as family.
His past actions showed this was true. And now, even as Dmitry became an empire, it was still true.
People have different dreams.
Just like they asked for different rewards, Hans, besides getting a title, felt very emotionally rewarded.
No matter what happens to Dmitry in the future, Hans would be there, wishing for Dmitry’s peace.
“…I will. Of course, I will. From now on, I will live for Dmitry.”
He nodded.
When Roman Dmitry saw him nodding so much, he smiled.
News of Hans’s reward spread quickly. Soon, people were talking about it everywhere, even at the big International Conference happening in Dmitry.
“Has a servant ever been given a noble title before?”
“Never. The noble society is very closed off. Who would give a noble title to a servant? This is very special. His Imperial Majesty, who was strict with war criminals like Ares, has broken down the barriers of status!”
Everyone was impressed. People’s eyes widened in surprise. They whispered to each other, nodding in agreement.
Roman Dmitry’s good attitude towards ordinary people was well-known. Nobles usually ignored people who weren’t nobles, but Dmitry respected the working class.
Dmitry valued jobs like blacksmiths and miners, so it was called a land without discrimination.
The members of the Haho Moon were ordinary people like restaurant workers and fruit store owners, which made Dmitry’s special qualities even more obvious.
Still, giving a noble title was different.
No one thought he would let Hans, a servant, break down the barriers of status.
In a pub near Dmitry, people who had nothing to do with Hans were talking with flushed faces.
“This shows that His Imperial Majesty is sincere. He said he doesn’t have prejudice, and punishing Ares and giving Hans a title proves that he keeps his word. Dmitry won’t be unfair to us.”
“You know what? After seeing this, I want to move to Dmitry. Kevin and Hans weren’t born nobles. One was a boy from the slums, and the other was a servant. But His Imperial Majesty remembered their hard work and rewarded them. Dmitry will never forget those who have worked hard for this country.”
Trust takes time to build.
His actions, like respecting the working class, creating a system for those who died in the war, and giving out rewards in a new way, made people cheer for Dmitry and raise their glasses.
They were happy.
The Salamander Continent was in a bad state. The Chronos Empire never apologized for its wrongdoings, and many people suffered because of their desire to conquer the continent.
Roman Dmitry not only defeated the Chronos Empire, which was evil, but also inspired people with his ideal system.
Some people were afraid of Roman Dmitry.
But ordinary people were happy about the changing world.
The story of Hans made the people working for Dmitry more motivated.
Back to the present.
William was nervous. As soon as he realized that he was facing Baron Hans, he became worried.
‘Damn it. I had to cause trouble with Baron Hans.’
William consulted the Dimitri file. The words about Hans Baron were stark and clear.
The file described Hans as Roman Dimitri’s closest friend. It said Hans had looked after Roman since they were children, making them very close. Roman Dimitri clearly liked Hans a lot, even sending gifts to Hans’ parties. Hans’ family was completely supported by Dimitri. Recently, Hans was made a Baron. This showed everyone that Hans was truly powerful in Dimitri’s empire. The file warned: *If you meet Hans in Dimitri, do not make the mistake of treating him like a servant just because of where he came from.*
Baron Hans. The file made it clear he was a key figure.
William had looked at Hans’ picture many, many times. He wanted to remember his face perfectly. But now, William felt dizzy. *How could I have made such a stupid mistake?* he thought.
What on earth was he to do?
Usually, William wouldn’t care about being rude to a servant. But this was Baron Hans! William’s mind went blank.
He had to apologize. Immediately. Without thinking, William bowed deeply.
“I am so sorry! Baron Hans, I didn’t know it was you. I was very rude!”
“No problem at all,” Hans said with a smile. “I can see why you made the mistake, looking like this.”
Hans smiled. He was letting it go so easily! William was really impressed. He looked at Hans, his eyes wide with respect.
“I’ve heard people say you are a very kind man, Baron Hans. It’s true! I promise you, this will never happen again. I will tell everyone in the Frank Kingdom, myself included, to be more careful. Never again, Baron Hans, never again!”
William didn’t care about his pride anymore. The Frank King! He worshipped Roman Dimitri like a god. If William caused any trouble here, the King would be furious when he got back to Frank. He had to be careful.
The world had changed. Dimitri was now the most powerful place. Even if Roman Dimitri didn’t complain, countries like Frank *had* to be careful. Dimitri was in charge now.
It was simple. In a world where the strong eat the weak, everyone except the strongest had to be careful. Like animals avoiding a lion.
Hans spoke after quickly talking to a manager nearby.
“Everything the Frank King asked for is ready,” Hans said. “I wasn’t told exactly what to do, but I made sure to find out what was important. Don’t worry, it’s all taken care of.”
Hans. His main job was to look after Roman Dimitri. But when Dimitri didn’t need him, Hans carefully checked everything in the Dimitri Imperial Palace.
This time was the same. When he heard about the international meeting, Hans looked up information on all the kings. He found out what they liked and disliked.
People said Hans was the real power in the palace. Hans knew his job well. Even though he was now a Baron and more important, he didn’t forget what he was supposed to do.
William was even more impressed. He kept thanking Hans again and again. Hans just smiled kindly.
“I hope you enjoy your time in Dimitri,” Hans said. “If you need anything at all, please come and ask me.”
That day, the people from the Frank Kingdom had a new story to tell about Hans. They said he was a true gentleman, kind and noble, despite his power.
Meanwhile, in the Imperial Palace meeting room, the international conference was in chaos. They couldn’t agree on one important thing.
King Redford spoke. “I agree we should bring back the ranking system. But I can’t agree that the winner can challenge the Emperor! The Emperor rules the whole continent now. No one should question Dimitri’s power.”
“I agree too,” said Daniel Cairo. “A sword fight? That’s too dangerous! We can’t allow it.”
The representatives from other countries nodded. They liked the idea of a ranking system. But they were strongly against Chris’s idea – letting the winner fight the Emperor.
Before, Roman Dimitri was just going to be a noble. It was okay if he took risks then. But now he was the Emperor of Dimitri! They couldn’t let him do something so dangerous.
It was a tricky problem. Most people disagreed. But Roman Dimitri spoke, his voice calm and strong.
“I am a swordsman first, Emperor second. I got to be Emperor because of my sword. For me, proving I am still strong *is* showing my power as Emperor. Do you think I will lose?”
“……No, of course not,” someone mumbled. Roman Dimitri continued, “I want to prove my power myself, not just because I am Emperor.”
After those words, no one argued anymore. Roman Dimitri was right. He had always proved himself with his sword. No one could imagine him losing a fight.
It was just like Roman Dimitri. Becoming Emperor hadn’t changed him. He wasn’t going to hide from a challenge. He wanted to prove himself again and again. Everyone in the room could feel his incredible confidence.
Finally, Chris’s idea was agreed upon. The ranking system would be back. Then, Lucas stepped forward to talk about the next thing on the list.
“A few days ago, we got some news from Chronos,” Lucas said. “Let me show you.” He nodded to some wizards. They quickly set up a device, and a magical screen appeared in front of everyone.
“[Disaster is here. The door to darkness will open. You cannot stop it. Just because you can’t see it now, doesn’t mean it’s not happening. Humans, be careful. Get ready. Fight back. When the darkest night falls on the world, humanity will face the worst disaster ever seen.]”
It was a prophecy. This was why Roman Dimitri had called all the leaders here.
Lucas said, “This prophecy was found in a secret room in Chronos. Alexandre showed us that demons from the Demon World are planning something bad. And this prophecy says their plan is already happening. Soon, darkness will cover the continent.”
Everyone’s faces went pale. The Demon World. This was a huge problem. Roman Dimitri had already told the world about the Demon World. The leaders knew it was real and terrifying.
But no one knew what to do. The Demon World was not like anything human. Even monsters like Alexandre were just servants of the demons. Everyone felt a cold fear.
Silence fell. No one dared to speak. Roman Dimitri looked at them all, his face calm but serious.
“The Demon World is real,” Roman Dimitri said. “I promised my people I would deal with this, and I will. I won’t just wait and see. There’s a doorway to the Demon World somewhere. They could attack at any time. We could live in fear, never knowing when they will come.”
It was a strange thing to say. The leaders looked at each other, confused. Then, Roman Dimitri said something that shocked them all.
“I’m not going to wait for them to attack us. I’m going to attack them first, through their own doorway. That’s why I called this meeting.”
