For the past month…
Marquis Valentino had waited for this moment. He watched Roman Dmitry finish his work. He held his breath, afraid to make a sound.
His heart beat very fast, like a drum.
When morning came, Roman Dmitry walked outside. Valentino went to greet him right away.
Valentino’s body shook. Being outside for so long in the cold made him very tired. But his spirit was still strong.
“Y-Your Majesty. Have you finished the work?”
He struggled to speak because his lips were frozen. Roman Dmitry looked at Marquis Valentino.
He knew what the other man wanted.
This was Marquis Valentino. He was the richest man in Cairo. He loved to collect rare and special things. Roman Dmitry knew Valentino understood why he was waiting, even though he looked messy and tired.
He was quite the character.
Someone as important as Valentino could have lived comfortably in Cairo. But he was waiting like a beggar just to see a sword.
Even though he was strange, Roman Dmitry liked people who were passionate.
Roman Dmitry silently took the sword and held it out to Valentino. Marquis Valentino stared at it with wide eyes.
“Ah…”
He gasped in amazement.
The sword gleamed in the moonlight. It immediately caught his attention. Its sleek shape was beautiful to see.
It was a little different from the swords he had made before.
Of course, the sword looked perfect. But it also felt magical and amazing. Valentino took the sword with shaking hands.
The sword slid perfectly into his hand.
The feeling in his hand, the perfect weight, and the wave of magic made him bite his lip.
It tasted like salt.
Valentino was so focused on the sword, he bit his lip hard. He didn’t even feel the blood.
Roman Dmitry didn’t think he could make a sword better than Disaster.
Disaster was perfect, but the sword in front of him was even better.
Did he need to test its magic or strength?
No, there was no need to check. Anyone who collects things, even a homeless person, would know how amazing this sword was.
His mind raced. He hadn’t found the past month difficult at all.
Even though it was cold and uncomfortable outside, watching Roman Dmitry work made him forget all his complaints.
When Roman Dmitry showed the finished sword, like the last brush stroke on a painting, Valentino felt happy and satisfied for waiting.
This was it.
He had given up his social life and lived like a beggar because he wanted to be the first to see the result.
Then…
“The sword’s name is Spirit.”
“Spirit. That’s a beautiful name for a sword.”
Spirit.
He remembered the name. He was grateful to Roman Dmitry for understanding him and giving him the sword. Then, Marquis Valentino noticed something else.
It was another sword.
Roman Dmitry had made one sword at the beginning and then focused on Spirit.
So…
What was that sword?
Spirit was the sword Roman Dmitry would use, so he couldn’t buy it. But maybe the other one was different.
“Could I see that sword too?”
His eyes sparkled with greed.
He imagined adding that sword to his Roman Dmitry collection and being very happy.
He couldn’t think clearly.
After seeing such an amazing sword, Valentino forgot something important he already knew.
“You cannot see this one.”
That was…
It was a shock.
Marquis Valentino looked sad. Roman Dmitry took the sword without showing any emotion.
“This sword already has an owner. The first person to see the sword must be its owner.”
Day broke.
People came to watch after hearing that Roman Dmitry had finished his work. Roman Dmitry did what he had promised a month before.
“This is the sword I promised.”
“Thank you.”
The man knelt down.
It was Kevin.
Kevin took the sword from Roman Dmitry. He looked at every part of it with a face full of emotion. Kevin knelt, remembering the hard life he had escaped thanks to Roman Dmitry.
It was a wonderful sword.
He had faced death many times. He knew how valuable the sword was that Roman Dmitry had given him.
He felt very emotional.
Roman Dmitry could have ignored the request of a simple servant. But instead, he had shown everyone how he made it.
He could not forget that.
He was filled with emotion, knowing that the result of that hard work was his.
“Your Majesty once told me that he would use me, a boy from the slums, as a sword. From that moment on, my life belonged to Your Majesty. Whether it is Chronos or the demons of the Demon World, no matter what enemies stand in Your Majesty’s way, I will always be Your Majesty’s sword.”
He lowered his head.
Roman Dmitry smiled slightly when he saw how loyal he was.
It was a heartwarming scene.
The people watching whispered about how nice it was to see. But one person could not smile.
It was Marquis Valentino.
Roman Dmitry had kept his promise.
He had given Disaster as promised while making the new sword Spirit. But he had forgotten about Disaster ever since he saw Spirit.
Of course, the sword used during the conquest of the continent was important.
The problem was that people are greedy, and they always want what they don’t have.
Valentino quickly glanced at Kevin’s sword.
It was beautiful.
He wanted it.
Even if it wasn’t as good as Spirit, the sword was better than Disaster because it had some of the same magic.
He slowly turned his head to look at Disaster again.
It was also great.
But he was disappointed.
His insides twisted.
This was definitely a good choice.
His eyes narrowed as he looked at Kevin’s sword.
A frown appeared on his face as he looked back at Disaster.
His eyes narrowed as he looked at Kevin’s sword.
A frown appeared on his face as he looked back at Disaster.
His eyes narrowed as he looked at Kevin’s sword.
A frown appeared on his face as he looked back at Disaster.
His eyes narrowed as he looked at Kevin’s sword.
A frown appeared on his face as he looked back at Disaster.
His eyes narrowed as he looked at Kevin’s sword.
A frown appeared on his face as he looked back at Disaster.
His eyes narrowed as he looked at Kevin’s sword.
A frown appeared on his face as he looked back at Disaster.
Marquis Valentino looked at the swords again and again. He hit his forehead with his hand and sighed loudly.
“I am such a silly fool!” he thought. “I should have asked them to make a special sword just for me. If I had, that sword would be mine, and I could have had Disaster too!”
He knew it clearly. He was a man who wanted to own everything. He was indeed a very greedy man.
Later that day, Marquis Valentino found Kevin.
He offered to pay Kevin any amount of money he wanted for the sword. But Kevin looked at him with a cold face and said,
“No. I will not sell it. This sword is mine. Only when I die will this sword belong to someone else.”
Kevin’s answer was firm and strong.
His reaction was so angry, almost like he wanted to fight. Marquis Valentino understood that money would not change Kevin’s mind.
Valentino sighed again. This was truly annoying.
If he had not seen the Spirit of the sword, maybe it wouldn’t matter so much. But now that he had seen it, just having Disaster was not enough for him anymore.
“Fate is unfair,” he thought.
“If I were just a little less greedy, I could be happy with what I have.”
For the next few days, Valentino could not stop thinking.
He was troubled by his strong desire for the sword. Then, he heard some surprising news from people he knew.
“Did you hear about Count Pattison?” one person said. “He had a very important business deal, but he was late and ruined everything. But he was smiling like it was a good thing! It was strange. But I think I understand. 500 gold coins for ending a bad business deal is not so bad, right?”
Right then, Valentino had a sudden idea.
‘It’s true! Money can do anything. If something seems impossible with money, it just means you don’t have enough money!’
Life can change suddenly.
What if, maybe, Kevin would need money someday?
If Valentino offered him a huge amount of money that Kevin could not refuse, wouldn’t Kevin change his mind?
He wasn’t thinking about just the next year or two.
Maybe when Kevin gets old and cannot use the sword well anymore, he might think about selling it to have a peaceful life.
Of course, Valentino didn’t think about himself getting old and dying first. He pretended that wouldn’t happen.
He knew this was a small chance. But to be ready for that chance, he needed to prepare carefully.
He called his most important advisors to meet him.
When they were all together, Marquis Valentino announced loudly,
“From now on, I will focus on business and trading! I will make the Valentino family the richest family in the whole land! We will have more money than anyone has ever seen before! We will be even richer than the Golden Bank, which used to be so powerful!”
Could anyone have guessed what would happen?
This sudden decision, like a surprise from nowhere, would make the Valentino family strong and successful again.
Years later, people would say,
“The difference between a successful person and a crazy person is very small.”
While all these things were happening, and Roman Dmitry was making a sword for everyone to see, another person was feeling something different.
“Time really goes by fast…”
It was Romero Dmitry.
He stood in his office, looking out the window, and remembered talking to Hendrik.
“Let me be honest with you,” Hendrik had said. “His Majesty is much better than you were, Lord, when you were called the best blacksmith in Dmitry. The swords he makes are amazing, like nothing ever seen before. I am learning so much from him. The world is truly surprising. Just a few years ago, everyone thought that no one in the Dmitry family would be a blacksmith after you, Lord, right?”
Hearing that he had been surpassed, Romero felt good.
Blacksmithing was the most important thing for the Dmitry family. Romero Dmitry had always wanted one of his three sons to become a blacksmith and continue the family tradition.
But it didn’t happen the way he wanted.
Rodwell Dmitry seemed interested for a little while, but Romero knew he wasn’t serious.
He couldn’t force him.
Being a blacksmith, even though it was important work, was not seen as good for a noble family.
People thought it was a low job for nobles.
So, Romero always felt a little sad about this. But now, his oldest son, who he thought would never do it, had become a blacksmith! This made him truly happy.
In the past, Romero Dmitry was the most important person in Dmitry.
There was a time when everyone respected him. But now, not many people missed Romero Dmitry as the leader.
They just remembered the old days. They didn’t want Romero Dmitry to rule Dmitry again.
He laughed quietly to himself.
The fact that he was now old news made him feel surprisingly happy.
“Good,” he said softly.
The day was bright and sunny.
That night, Romero Dmitry couldn’t sleep easily.
He, as a father, would also remember this day and keep it in his heart for a long time.
A few days later.
At the training area in Dmitry.
For the past month, everyone had been talking about Roman Dmitry’s sword making. But in a quiet place away from all the noise, someone was there every day.
From morning until night.
Chris was the one swinging his sword until he was completely wet with sweat. Even now, a few days after Roman Dmitry finished making the sword, Chris was training as usual.
*Huff.*
*Huff, huff.*
He moved his sword with the same speed and the same strength every time.
His eyes were sharp and focused.
He had done this movement thousands of times, but Chris did not lose his focus even for a second.
‘I will not lose to anyone except His Majesty,’ he thought.
The upcoming tournament.
News had spread that Chris and Kevin would both be in it. People were already arguing about who would win.
Before the war with Chronos, most people thought Chris would win.
But now, because Kevin had defeated Ares, many people thought Kevin would win.
Chris would not let that happen.
Even if he couldn’t be the best, he would not let himself be used to make someone else look better.
He put all his energy into training.
There was not much time left.
The tournament was getting closer, and Chris could not waste even one day.
Just then,
“Chris! Chris!”
From far away,
A soldier came running, out of breath.
He reached Chris and tried to catch his breath. He spoke with a worried look on his face.
“S-Sir, something amazing has happened!”
“Take a deep breath and tell me what it is,” Chris said.
But the soldier was too excited to calm down.
It was news that would shake Dmitry.
It was something that would greatly affect Chris, and maybe even change the whole continent.
“Actually, just a little while ago…”
And then he started to tell the story.
One hour before, Edwin Hector had come to Dmitry. And a problem had started that would shock everyone.
