Kevin remembered it clearly, even now.
He was training when he heard the news about Roman Dmitry’s disappearance. He could not believe it.
“The Emperor has disappeared! That’s absurd….”
Why did he feel this way? Suddenly, a bad feeling came to him.
His last meeting with Roman Dmitry had been different.
He hadn’t thought it strange then, but when he heard about the disappearance, the pieces of the puzzle in his mind began to fit together.
He remembered their last talk, where they spoke honestly. He also remembered Roman teaching him the Celestial Demon Sword Technique, like he was getting ready for something.
His heart sank.
What if Roman Dmitry never returned?
Could he live without him?
“Impossible!” Kevin thought.
Roman Dmitry meant everything to him.
Roman Dmitry was more than just his leader. For Kevin, who was once nothing, Roman Dmitry was like the sky above him.
Everything that people admired now had come from Roman Dmitry.
The boy who once couldn’t even hold a sword was now a strong warrior for Dmitry. The boy who used to live in poor areas now had wealth and fame, important in the Dmitry Empire.
His whole life depended on Roman Dmitry.
He had vowed to live for him, and Kevin felt alive when he lived for him.
But he had disappeared.
His world had fallen apart.
The reality he had tried to deny became the truth as time passed, and the image of Roman Dmitry saying goodbye flickered in his mind.
What on earth had happened to him? He didn’t know why he had to leave, but Kevin wasn’t ready to accept this sudden farewell.
For the past month, he had been living in hell.
He tried to ignore his worry and searched everywhere for Roman Dmitry.
He searched all over, from one side of the land to the other. He went to the southern jungle, across huge mountains, even to places no one knew. He became very thin because he felt hopeless, but he couldn’t stop looking for Roman Dmitry.
He had to do it.
Who would give up on life just because it was hard?
While he was searching, day and night, Isabel called him. Her call was too important to ignore.
And so, he faced the truth. It was shocking.
She said, “Sacrifice.”
He couldn’t believe Roman Dmitry had sacrificed himself. He wanted to believe Roman would come back.
Kevin pressed her, “Explain it clearly. Don’t guess or say ‘maybe.’ Tell me exactly what happened.”
He didn’t want to believe it was real.
Isabel didn’t guess.
She spoke the truth, but Kevin’s trembling eyes seemed to wish she would correct what she had said, even now.
But the truth was the truth, no matter what anyone wanted.
Isabel said, “…If I could have delivered hopeful news to you, I would have revealed the truth before this chaos began. It is an undeniable fact that Emperor Roman Dmitry chose to sacrifice himself at the cost of eliminating the threat to humanity. However, that does not mean he is dead.”
“Then does that mean he is alive?” Kevin interrupted again.
Isabel nodded at his eyes, burning with longing.
“Yes. Emperor Roman Dmitry is alive. He left to protect this world from danger. He is alive, but in another place, another world. This is all I know. In fact, I wanted to tell you the truth from the beginning, but I couldn’t break my promise with Emperor Roman Dmitry. I’m sorry. I wanted to apologize for listening to your news for the past month.”
When Isabel’s words came to an end, people squeezed their eyes shut.
No. No. This was not the news they wanted to hear.
Silence lingered.
No one could speak rashly.
Sacrifice.
It was an unexpected truth.
Roman Dmitry, whom the entire continent had been searching for, had actually chosen to sacrifice himself for humanity.
It was devastating.
Some shed tears of sorrow, while others tore at their hair, unable to hide their despair.
The people gathered here had all received Roman Dmitry’s grace at least once. Regardless of their interests, they hoped for Roman Dmitry’s safe return.
For a long time, they spent a long time in silence.
It was then that Chris, breaking through the heavy silence, opened his mouth for the first time.
“In fact, I already knew the truth. That something had happened to Emperor Roman Dmitry. But I couldn’t accept it, so I kept denying it. I’m rather relieved. Emperor Roman Dmitry is not dead. He is alive and surviving somewhere beyond the dimensions.”
His eyes changed.
Sadness, anger, confusion. Everyone there felt many strong emotions.
“Before Dmitry became powerful, I doubted Roman Dmitry. But since I started to respect him, I have always followed his orders. Isabel, the fact that he told you not to reveal the truth must mean that Emperor Roman Dmitry wants us to accept this reality. We must follow our lord’s orders. We must not let his sacrifice be in vain, forget the past, and be strong now.”
Gritting his teeth, he, who always maintained his composure, did not suppress his emotions as much as he did now.
“But I cannot obey this time. I respect Emperor Roman Dmitry’s wishes, but as one who has only received grace from him, I cannot allow my lord to be sacrificed like this. Isabel, I have only one question.”
“…Speak.”
“Is the Emperor really alive?”
“I’m sure of it. God clearly told me that Emperor Roman Dmitry had left for ‘another dimension.'”
“That’s all I need to know.”
What Chris needed was certainty.
Roman Dmitry.
The certainty that he was alive.
That one fact was enough.
Chris looked around at the people in turn and said, “I ask for your help. Please, everyone, lend me your strength. Let’s bring back the Emperor from that other world. And let’s find out why he had to leave this place. At least, this is not how we should part ways. So please….”
Chris, too, was just like Kevin.
His life was only whole when Roman Dmitry was with him.
“Friends,” Chris said, his voice strong but worried. “I ask you to join me. We must defy what has happened.”
Saying it was easy, but doing it was very hard. Chris was talking about dimensional travel – going to another world. It was always dangerous and would cost them a lot. But that wasn’t the biggest problem. Everyone knew that even Roman Dmitry, a hero so powerful he seemed like a god, had been forced to leave this world. No one knew exactly why, but it was a huge problem. Even if everyone here worked together, they might not be able to fix it.
But then, something surprising happened. Before Chris could say more, Kevin spoke up. He didn’t even pause to think.
“No matter what it takes to defy this,” Kevin said quickly, “I believe Roman Dmitry must come back. If we need to try something new, something risky, I will do it. I would do anything for him to return.”
It was like Kevin had lit a fire. Next, Marquis Valentino, known as the richest man on the continent, spoke.
“You all know I, Valentino, have a lot of money,” he said. “Just tell me what you need. If you need people to help, I’ll get them. If you need money for this experiment, I’ll pay for it. I, Valentino, will take care of all the problems we can solve with money and resources.”
Marquis Fabius, a powerful merchant family leader, added his support. “Hey, Valentino, do you think you can do everything yourself?” Fabius joked. “I’m helping too! My family is already looking everywhere for Emperor Roman Dmitry. We don’t care if we have less for ourselves. We owe Roman Dmitry everything, and my family will give back everything we can to help him.”
Valentino and Fabius were merchants. Merchants are usually very careful with their money and always think about profit. If they were thinking like business people, they would just say some nice words but not really help. It would be easy to just pretend to care.
Because if you thought about it like a business deal, spending huge amounts of money on something that might not even work was crazy. But Valentino and Fabius weren’t thinking about what they would get back this time.
They felt it was the right thing to do. They didn’t want to be their usual selves, always planning and trying to get the best deal, when it came to finding Roman Dmitry. He had risked his life to save everyone. This was about believing in him, even without proof. It was pure faith.
More and more people spoke up, offering to help in any way they could. Then, Edwin Hector, the most famous magic expert in the kingdom, spoke.
“Magic experiments are what I do best,” Hector said. “Ever since the terrible war with the Demon World – a world of monsters and demons – I have been studying how to travel between worlds. I will share all the information I have collected. If it can help find Emperor Roman Dmitry, I will give it all, happily.”
“Thank you,” Chris said, his voice full of emotion.
“We will remember what you are doing, Hector,” Valentino added seriously.
People gasped. They looked at Hector in shock. Hector’s magical research was very important and secret. His country wanted to keep it hidden from everyone else. But Hector said he would share all of it.
Edwin Hector knew that by doing this, he was giving up his country’s secrets and advantages. It wasn’t just because he was thankful to Roman Dmitry. He also truly believed that Roman Dmitry was needed for the world to be safe.
Everyone agreed. They all wanted the same thing: to find Roman Dmitry.
The most important people from all over the land had said they would help, every single one of them.
“Everyone wants the same thing,” Chris said. “Romero Dmitry, you are now speaking for Roman Dmitry. Please decide what we should do.”
Everyone looked at Romero Dmitry.
Romero Dmitry. He was Roman Dmitry’s father.
Now it was up to him to decide. As his son’s representative, they were waiting for him to tell them what to do.
‘My son,’ Romero thought.
Looking at everyone waiting for his answer, Romero Dmitry felt a wave of emotion wash over him.
Romero was ready to give up anything to find his son. But these people in front of him? They didn’t have to help him.
Yet they were all helping without any doubt. Romero could see how truly they meant it, their willingness to stand by Dmitry even in this hard time. He was so grateful.
But right now, he couldn’t give in to his feelings.
He knew that if he stayed strong and firm, they would have a better chance of finding Roman Dmitry.
“I will never forget your kindness,” Romero said, his voice clear and strong. “As the one speaking for the Emperor, I announce to everyone: From today, the whole continent, including our Dmitry Empire, will put all their energy into finding Emperor Roman Dmitry!”
That day, everything changed.
The world changed quickly after that day. People started working together in ways they never had before. Scientists started new experiments. Merchants used their networks to search. Messengers rode across the land, spreading the word. All to find Roman Dmitry, just one man.
The meeting was over.
Kevin went outside. He walked to a quiet place where no one could see him. Then, his legs gave way, and he fell heavily into a chair.
*Plop!*
“Keuh, keuh,” Kevin gasped, trying to breathe.
All the emotions Kevin had been holding back burst out. Tears streamed down his face.
Roman Dmitry.
The thought that Roman Dmitry might have given himself up was terrible. But then Isabel had said he was alive! Kevin was so thankful that Roman Dmitry was still alive.
“If… if Roman Dmitry had chosen to die,” Kevin choked out, “I would have gone with him.”
He couldn’t stop sobbing.
It was such a relief.
Yes. A real, deep relief.
Even though he trusted Roman Dmitry’s strength, Kevin had been unable to sleep well. He was always worried that something terrible had happened.
But now he knew Roman Dmitry was alive. That was enough. He knew it would be hard to get Roman Dmitry back, but just knowing he was alive made Kevin cry with relief.
Just then, someone spoke.
“Kevin? Are you alright?”
It was Hans. Kevin knew that gentle voice anywhere.
Kevin looked up. Hans gently wiped Kevin’s tears with a handkerchief.
“I’ve been crying every night too, Kevin,” Hans said softly. “I felt like I was in hell, even though everything seemed peaceful. I was so afraid something had happened to Emperor Roman Dmitry. But not anymore. We know he’s alive now. So, we can only cry today, okay?”
Hans looked different than usual. His face was serious, determined.
“I’m just a servant,” Hans continued. “I can’t do anything big. So, Kevin, please, you have to find Emperor Roman Dmitry. If you say you will, I will believe you and wait. I remember you as a boy from the slums who became the best swordsman in the Dmitry Empire. You’re the Kevin who can do anything. So please, say you will do it.”
Hans’s voice broke, and tears filled his eyes.
This was new for Hans. Hans had always been the one taking care of Kevin. He had never asked Kevin for anything like this before.
Kevin stopped crying.
He looked at Hans and nodded, his eyes full of determination.
“Yes,” Kevin said firmly. “I will definitely do it. If demons from the Demon World, or even God himself, try to stop me from getting Emperor Roman Dmitry back…”
Kevin gritted his teeth.
His eyes flashed with anger, showing the fierce warrior inside him. “I will defeat anyone who stands in my way and bring him back, no matter what.”
Kevin believed in himself.
He knew he would keep his promise to Hans, no matter what happened.
Time moved on.
Or maybe time didn’t move the way it usually did. It was hard to tell.
In that strange, confusing flow of time…
*Flash!*
Roman Dmitry opened his eyes in a new world.
