Busan’s final defense line was all that stood between the city and complete destruction.
Beyond the fortress walls, a horrifying sight unfolded. Monsters surged forward like a dark, relentless tide. This was the Monster Wave.
Fortunately, the seawater hadn’t reached the fortress, but the grotesque creatures emerging from the depths formed a wave of nightmares, fully deserving of the name ‘Monster Wave’. To remind you, the Red Time is a period of extreme danger when monsters relentlessly attack, and this time, it was even worse, a Monster Wave, a massive assault of creatures from the sea.
The sight alone was enough to make even the bravest soldiers’ legs tremble. Just looking at the monsters made your knees shake. They were huge and slimy, with too many eyes and sharp teeth that dripped with seawater. The ground trembled under their heavy feet as they came closer.
Facing this desperate situation, Cha Young-min, the leader of Busan’s defense, urgently summoned the company commanders and issued critical orders.
“Use the magic bombs now. You may use all the magic bombs we have. Prevent the enemies from reaching the fortress walls,” he commanded, his voice firm despite the gravity of the situation.
One of the commanders responded with surprise, “…Already?”
“Yes,” Cha Young-min confirmed, his expression grim.
The company commanders were taken aback by this sudden order. The company commanders looked surprised. One of them blinked and asked, ‘…Already?’
Magic bombs represented the pinnacle of magical technology, the most powerful magic available. These bombs, crafted using precious mana stones, possessed undeniable destructive power. However, they were incredibly expensive, making their use a decision not to be taken lightly.
The Busan government had carefully stockpiled hundreds of these magic bombs in preparation for the Great Disaster. While it seemed like a substantial amount, those who had experienced the horrors of the Great Disaster knew that even hundreds of magic bombs would barely last two days. Monsters attacked relentlessly, day and night, and resources were inevitably finite.
The standard procedure was to use them sparingly, holding out as long as possible. Since help from the central government was expected only about fifteen days after the start of the Red Time, they conserved their resources and only actively deployed magic bombs when the situation became truly dire. That was the established protocol.
The Busan company commanders had trained rigorously under this strategy. Yet, Cha Young-min was authorizing the use of magic bombs even before the final defense line was seriously threatened. What kind of leader is he? Is he brave? Is he worried? Let us know what’s going on inside his head.
Cha Young-min explained his reasoning, his voice filled with urgency.
“In two days, the Incheon government has promised support. Our goal is to hold out until then. If we conserve resources, we might be swept away by the Monster Wave. So, do not hesitate to use the magic bombs.”
The commanders responded with a mix of determination and apprehension.
“Understood.”
“We will follow your orders.”
The promise of help from Incheon was almost unbelievable. The fact that they would solve Busan’s problems was a welcome surprise. Why is Incheon helping Busan? Is there a history between them? Is it just a general promise of help between cities? Knowing more about this promise will make Cha Young-min’s decision more believable.
Trusting that Cha Young-min had a valid reason for his orders, the Busan company commanders swiftly moved into action.
“Use the magic bombs!” one commander shouted.
“Attack the enemies!” another echoed.
Clang!
Rumble!
The magic bombs were activated. As they poured power into the mana stones, they began to shake violently. The magic inscribed within erupted like an active volcano.
[Thunder Cannon]
[Thunder Cannon]
[Thunder Cannon]
The electric magic bombs struck the sea monsters, who had just emerged from the water, with devastating force.
Bzzzt!
Boom!
Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham!
The monsters were torn apart and swept away by the explosions. The monsters screamed in agony at the tremendous destructive power. Those at the front, charging relentlessly, were charred black and collapsed to the ground.
Yet, their places were immediately filled by other monsters. They showed no concern for their fallen kin, trampling over the corpses as they surged forward with unwavering determination. The company commanders continued to order the use of magic bombs, unleashing their full power from the start. Even the monstrous wave struggled to breach the fortress walls.
However, the Great Disaster was not an event that would end quickly. They had already used over a hundred magic bombs in a short amount of time.
Seeing no end to the Great Disaster, one company commander wore a despairing expression. The company commanders looked surprised. One of them blinked and asked, ‘…Already?’
“…How are we supposed to stop this?” he muttered, his voice filled with dread.
This was his first experience with a Monster Wave. Facing the grim reality, he realized that they wouldn’t have lasted even a day if they hadn’t used the magic bombs. If they had waited for the central government, Busan would have been destroyed.
He placed his trust in Cha Young-min’s judgment. No, he had to trust it. The single promise that Incheon would provide help in two days was Busan’s only hope for survival.
Meanwhile, in Incheon…
Deep beneath the city, in Incheon’s underground shelter, a vast space had been prepared for emergencies. Civilians gathered in small groups, their faces etched with anxiety. The underground shelter was dark, crowded, and damp. What does it smell like? Use sensory details to bring it to life.
One man voiced the fear that gripped many hearts.
“…Can we really survive? It’s not just an attack; a Monster Wave has formed near Incheon. In the history of South Korea, I’ve never heard of a city stopping a Monster Wave without the help of the central government.”
They were cut off from the outside world, with little information about the ongoing battle. Mayor Kim Jun-hyuk had urged them to trust him, but some people couldn’t shake their growing anxiety.
His words resonated with others who shared similar doubts.
“Honestly, it’ll be tough. We might last a day or two, but the never-ending hell will destroy all of Incheon.”
“I sincerely respect Mayor Kim Jun-hyuk, but I think the decision to reject the central government was rash. It’s not for nothing that local people endure the unfairness of the central government. If a national-scale force doesn’t step in during this situation, a single city like Incheon can never withstand the Great Disaster. We have dug our own graves, and now the only way to survive is to grab onto the central government’s coattails.” Why did Incheon reject the central government? The people in the shelter talk about this. It’s a big point, but we don’t know why. Giving a hint about this reason will add depth to the story.
Despair filled the air. Trapped in a space cut off from the outside world, these people had entrusted their lives to others. As time passed, their anxiety deepened.
But that was all. Although there were complaints, most people tried to suppress those feelings. The people are anxious and despairing. Their words should reflect these strong feelings. Maybe some people are crying, some are angry, some are trying to be brave.
A middle-aged man stepped forward, his voice firm despite the surrounding fear.
“Everyone, let’s trust Mayor Kim Jun-hyuk. Let’s trust Roman Dmitry, whom he chose. Mayor Kim Jun-hyuk has never turned a blind eye to Incheon in any situation. Let’s not become a hindrance to him, who told us to trust him and wait, and let’s not hold Mayor Kim Jun-hyuk back, even if we can’t be of help.” The middle-aged man who speaks up is a good start, but we could see his face, his clothes, something to make him more real.
“That’s right. We are in a safe space, but those with power are risking their lives to fight outside. Rather than doubting their efforts, let’s all join hands and pray for Incheon’s survival.”
Time seemed to stretch on forever. In a space where they couldn’t even tell day from night, the citizens of Incheon struggled to contain their anxious hearts. Some hot-blooded individuals even argued to go out and fight.
Kim Jun-hyuk had sent them to the shelter to prevent indiscriminate deaths of civilians, but he understood their desire to help, even if it meant not directly fighting on the battlefield.
It was a truly anxious and nervous time. They had never experienced a leader like Roman Dmitry. Having never been ruled by a strongman, the end of waiting was always despairing.
A day passed.
Two days passed.
Then three days passed.
People grew increasingly agitated. The silence was unsettling.
“…Could it be that all of Incheon’s soldiers have died? And we’re safe because the monsters haven’t found the underground space?”
They dismissed the possibility of victory, deeming it unrealistic. Solving the Monster Wave was impossible. Surely, by now, desperate news should have arrived, but their imaginations ran wild in the unnerving silence.
Suddenly,
Creak!
The door opened. The sealed entrance opened, and a man with a surprisingly clean appearance entered. Who is Kang Min-ho? He just appears at the end. Is he important? Is he a soldier? Giving him a little introduction will make his appearance more meaningful.
It was Kang Min-ho.
He announced, his voice calm and reassuring, “Red Time is over. Minimal safety has been secured, so you may come outside now.” What does
Minimal safety has been secured
mean? Kang Min-ho says this. It’s a bit vague. Does it mean all monsters are gone? Are there still some dangers? Be more specific. Red Time is finally over. It’s been hard, but we made it. It’s safe enough to come out now.
The news was met with stunned silence. Red Time was over. When they first heard Kang Min-ho’s words, people couldn’t accept the literal truth. We want to know how people react to this news. Are they relieved? Are they still scared? Show us their faces and actions. This is a good place to add emotion and make the ending more impactful.
‘Maybe the monster wave changed direction? The Red Time was too quiet otherwise.’ He was sure of it. Luck must have been on their side. Incheon was safer than he expected. But then…
“Huh…”
“Are those… all monsters?” People looked around, confused. They stepped outside and stopped. Everywhere they looked, there were dead monsters. Outside the high walls of the city. The monsters that were climbing the walls just a little while ago were now lying still on the ground. Smoke was rising from their bodies. There were so many dead monsters, it was impossible to count them all. It was clear a monster wave had attacked, but it was hard to believe that Incheon’s soldiers alone had defeated it.
Kang Min-ho spoke to them. “It’s all because of Roman Dmitry. He destroyed the monster wave and defeated the S-rank monster, the Green Dragon, that came near Incheon. We are safe now. The Blood Rain happened again just a short time ago, but our strong defenses in Incheon protected us from the monsters. The Red Time is finished. I believe nothing else bad will happen, so we have opened the shelters for you to come out.”
He continued, “Now, we need your help. Please go to the walls and help us move the dead monsters.”
Everyone stood still, shocked. Each word Kang Min-ho said was unbelievable. They did what he asked, walking towards the fortress walls. As they walked, they thought about his words, and started to move the huge pile of dead monsters. Roman Dmitry… Who was this person? He had not only destroyed the monster wave, but also defeated the S-rank Green Dragon! It was true. Incheon was safe. Roman Dmitry had brought safety to Incheon.
A middle-aged man spoke up, his voice full of feeling. “Where is Roman Dmitry? I really want to thank him.”
“Yes, me too!” someone else shouted.
“We want to meet him!” Everyone agreed, pushing forward a little. To the people of Incheon, Roman Dmitry was like a hero who saved them. They all wanted to see him.
Kang Min-ho smiled kindly at them. “You will meet him soon. But not right now. As soon as Incheon was safe, Roman Dmitry and the White Magician went to Busan to help people there. Don’t worry. Roman Dmitry told me, ‘If Incheon is in danger again, I will leave everything else and come back to Incheon instantly using magic.’ ” This made everyone feel calmer. Kang Min-ho looked like he truly believed in Roman Dmitry.
“Remember how you feel right now. We are alive because of Roman Dmitry.”
The Red Time was over in Incheon. But the disaster was not finished. Even if nothing new happened, the world was still in terrible trouble.
Thwack! Splurt! Cha Young-min chopped off a monster’s head. He had just barely managed to do it. He breathed heavily, his face covered in monster blood.
“Haa… haa…” He was on the fortress wall in Busan. It was a terrible scene. Dead bodies were everywhere. So many people who had promised to defend Busan were now dead and cold. Monsters kept attacking and attacking, and time seemed to stop. Cha Young-min’s own body was a mess. Cuts and tears were all over him. He had been fighting day and night. He couldn’t even feel the pain anymore.
Kyaak! Grrrr. More monsters climbed onto the walls. They had used up all the magic bombs. Now, they had to fight the monsters with just their tired bodies and weapons.
“Don’t give up! We can still live…” Just then, Cha Young-min’s eyes opened wide.
Beyond the walls, even more monsters were coming. More than before! The monster wave should have been getting weaker, but it was getting stronger. It felt like the monsters were using even more powerful magic, and there were even more of them than before. It was hopeless. Humans could not stop this. Even if the government sent help now, they would be destroyed by this monster wave. ‘Is this really the end?’ Cha Young-min felt all hope leave him. His eyes became empty. He had made a promise to Roman Dmitry. He had forgotten about it in these terrible times. At first, he had waited for him. But now, he was too tired, too broken. He just accepted that he was going to die. He gripped his weapon tightly. ‘If I’m going to die, I will kill one more monster before I go.’ He bit his teeth hard. It wasn’t fair. What had people done to deserve this? Facing the terrible truth that they were going to die, the hunters in Busan, including Cha Young-min, fought with all their might.
“Attack! Don’t give up!”
“Fight like you are going to die!” Chaos everywhere. Busan had become a living hell. In just a few hours, everyone in South Korea would hear that Busan, the city they knew, was gone.
Just then, as a monster bit into Cha Young-min’s arm and he screamed in pain, the sky seemed to bend and crack. Something was appearing in the air! ‘Could it be…?’ Cha Young-min’s eyes went wide with hope. Yes, it was him. It was Roman Dmitry.
Thump. Roman Dmitry and Park Min-woo landed heavily on the ground in Busan. Only two of them had come. Roman Dmitry wanted to be able to get back to Incheon quickly if needed, so he only brought Park Min-woo.
Kyaak! Kyaaaa! Monsters charged at them, showing their sharp teeth. But before they could even get close, their heads exploded.
Swoosh! Blood flew everywhere. Roman Dmitry quickly looked around and saw Cha Young-min. He already had his sword out. He glanced at Cha Young-min, then turned to face the huge wave of monsters.
“Time to keep my promise, Park Min-woo.”
“Yes, sir.”
“Make a path.” It was a crazy command. But Park Min-woo didn’t even hesitate. He stepped forward and let out a burst of powerful magic.
“I will do as you command.” Just two men had arrived. But this was the start of things changing.
