“Father.”
“Are you going to see the Grand Duke?”
My father’s expression wasn’t very pleasant as he asked.
Celonia couldn’t lie, so she nodded lightly. Tan was already waiting in front of the Duke’s mansion.
“Do you have a moment?”
“Of course.”
“Let’s have a cup of tea.”
My father turned and started walking back towards the house.
“Ella, tell Tan I’ll be there soon.”
“Yes, Miss.”
Celonia sent Ella to inform Tan, who must be waiting, and followed her father.
Celonia entered the still splendid and magnificent drawing room of the Duke’s mansion and took a seat on the velvet sofa next to her father, Galloway, who was already seated at the head of the table.
However, her father didn’t say a word until the fragrant tea was placed on the table.
Celonia waited for him to speak first. His expression was quite serious, and she wondered what he was thinking.
How much time had passed?
Only after the tea had cooled down a bit did her father finally open his mouth.
“Seli.”
“Yes, Father.”
Celonia answered eagerly, as if she had been waiting for it. At least 20 minutes had passed, so she was eager to finish the conversation and leave.
“I don’t know how this will sound, but your father doesn’t like that guy.”
There was no hesitation in her father’s voice.
The guy he was talking about was Tan. He had expressed his displeasure with Tan once before, so it wasn’t surprising.
“Offering glory at the hunting festival seems to have been a bit premature.”
Galloway stared at Celonia with a stern expression.
Celonia fidgeted with her hands on her skirt at her father’s words, which felt like a reprimand.
She hadn’t expected him to react this way…….
But she couldn’t lie. She already knew all his secrets and still liked Tan. It was her decision to pursue a relationship with him.
So, she had to be honest with Galloway about her relationship with Tan, because he was her father.
“Father, I’m seeing the Grand Duke with romantic feelings.”
“Celonia.”
“He is a great source of strength to me. More than anyone else.”
“Haa. It’s not just because he’s a powerful figure, is it?”
Galloway sighed and rubbed his forehead as if he had a headache at Celonia’s firm words.
“I’m worried because you seem to get hurt more often when you’re involved with him.”
“…….”
Celonia was momentarily stunned by the unexpected words.
Galloway’s brow was furrowed with concern for his daughter. Seeing the worry and concern etched there, she couldn’t easily respond.
Looking back, her father had reason to worry.
The first time she met Tan, there was an attack by stray dogs, and as a result, she was thrown around by his power and broke her bones.
Even on the day she released Emily from her spell, she was carried back to the mansion in Tan’s arms. From her father’s point of view, who didn’t know the full circumstances, it was natural to be worried.
“Besides, I keep hearing rumors that he’s suspicious and dangerous, so I can’t help but worry about you.”
“It’s a misunderstanding, Father. You know the Grand Duke too; you know he’s not that kind of person.”
Celonia immediately refuted those words.
She was the one who knew Tan better than anyone else. If her father saw how Tan treated her, he would be a little relieved.
“Yes, but Seli, I’m worried you’ll get hurt again.”
Her father was talking about the betrayal of the male leads. Their relationship, which seemed like it would never change, eventually fell apart.
“I’m okay.”
“Your mother also passed away, and if something happens to you…….”
“…….”
“Please understand your father’s concerns. So let’s think about this a little more.”
Celonia couldn’t bring herself to push her relationship with Tan firmly when she saw her father’s expression, which had become so gloomy that the corners of his eyes drooped sadly.
She felt a sense of guilt, as if she would be committing a filial impiety if she did.
It seemed that this was an issue that needed to be handled slowly over time.
“I understand.”
“Okay. You can go now.”
At the order to leave, Celonia slowly got up from her seat. Tan was waiting outside, so she was in a hurry, but she couldn’t show it in front of her father.
“Oh, Celonia.”
“Yes.”
Celonia turned her head at her father’s voice, which followed again as she was about to turn around.
Her father lifted his teacup with an elegant posture.
“You are my jewel. You must not get even the smallest scratch. It will bring tears of blood to my eyes.”
Galloway finished speaking without looking at her and brought the teacup to his lips.
‘What is it?’
Celonia shuddered for a moment, feeling an inexplicable chill. She felt a slightly different feeling from her father, who didn’t make eye contact with her.
Was it because his blue eyes, which looked just like hers, had a cold look? Or was it because of the words comparing his daughter to a jewel?
But the thought didn’t last long. Galloway often told her to take care of her body out of concern.
“I will. I’ll be careful.”
Celonia readily answered, responding to her father’s concern, and left the drawing room.
As soon as the door closed and Celonia left, Galloway put down the teacup he was holding.
* * *
Today, Grace, dressed in the most extravagant clothes, was rolling her eyes with a stiff expression.
She had been invited by Countess Evangeline to a tea party held at the Countess’s mansion.
Of course, she intended to attend with Reyev and Mac라이언 [likely a typo and should be Mac, followed by a Korean name]. As always, she had to show them off like sculptures.
But what was going on? They both refused her request, saying they had work to do.
She was dumbfounded, but since she couldn’t skip the tea party, she dressed up with new jewelry and attended alone.
The tea party, attended by about ten people, went quite smoothly, until an uninvited guest suddenly showed up.
“What are you doing? Hurry up and talk!”
The noble ladies sitting at the table all looked at each other at the sharp and arrogant voice.
“What are you doing! I’m feeling down! Do you all want to die?”
Princess Titania was acting like a tyrant.
The princess had suddenly appeared at the noble ladies’ tea time.
The princess kicked out Countess Evangeline, who was hosting the tea time, and sat in the highest seat, glaring with her poisonous eyes.
It looked as if she was going to grab all the hair of the ladies in front of her if she caught even one thing.
“Y-Your Highness, would you like to try this financier [small French almond cake]?”
Countess Evangeline, who had plucked up the courage from the continued adversity, opened her trembling lips and offered a delicious dessert.
“Are you telling me to eat this cheap dessert now? You! Are you thinking or not?”
“I-I’m sorry, Your Highness. I didn’t mean that…….”
“Shut up!”
When Titania shouted fiercely, the Countess’s mouth was shut. She looked like she was about to shed tears if she was touched.
As a result, the atmosphere at the table became even more frozen. Everyone was trembling with fear, as if they were standing on thin ice.
The princess was urging them to say something again, but no one could open their mouths.
It was obvious that no matter what they said, she would find fault with it and humiliate them.
“…….”
Grace, who was reading the atmosphere, was breathing very quietly, afraid of being noticed by the princess.
She didn’t know what was going on, but she had a feeling that the princess was taking out her anger after being slapped in the face somewhere else. She had a very angry face since she came to the tea party.
However, no one could scold the princess here right now.
“What? Don’t you talk? Are you trying to disobey the princess’s words?”
Everyone was surprised and closed their eyes tightly at the princess’s action of jumping up as if she was going to overturn the table.
“Your Highness.”
“What!”
“That…….”
However, the princess’s maid, who came like a savior, whispered in the princess’s ear as if it was an urgent matter.
“Everyone is waiting.”
The princess, who heard the words from the maid as if something urgent had happened, glared at the ladies sitting at the table and turned her body away.
As she left the glass garden completely with rough steps, the ladies who had been stiffened up exhaled the breath they had been holding in.
“Haa…….”
“Hic, hic…….”
Evangeline finally burst into tears.
“Don’t cry, Young Lady.”
“That’s right. What on earth is Her Highness doing…….”
The ladies came forward to comfort her.
Grace thought this was the time and quickly got up to go to the bathroom, which she had been holding back.
If she moved while the princess was there, arrows would fly, so now was her chance.
Grace quickly left the glass garden and went to the bathroom in the mansion, finished her business, and walked down the hallway. Her steps quickened because she had to sit down again before the princess came back.
‘I think I should just abandon Ian now.’
Grace thought as she walked.
There was no reason to accept Ian’s arrogant behavior anymore.
Yesterday, he ignored her call until the end and left alone.
She couldn’t use Ian to provoke Celonia anymore, so there was no reason to keep him by her side. The side effects were also starting to appear, and Ian’s usefulness had disappeared.
“But where is this?”
Grace looked around. She must have taken the wrong way, because the glass garden she was supposed to be in wasn’t visible and she was in the wrong place.
“Just kill them!”
It was then.
At the loud voice, Grace hid behind the pillar in front of her without realizing it. It was the princess’s scream that she had heard throughout the tea time.
‘What are you telling me to kill?’
Grace peeked out, holding her breath.
The princess, her maid, and a man wearing black clothes and a black mask were standing in a secluded and shabby place where no one was around.
“It is difficult to deal with Princess Besian.”
“Are you questioning the princess’s orders now?”
“I’m sorry.”
“Aah! Then come up with another plan! Think of a way to win the Grand Duke’s heart!”
The man in the black mask showed courtesy, saying he understood first to the princess’s hysteria, and then disappeared over the wall in an instant.
‘The princess is after the Grand Duke?’
Grace’s eyes gleamed strangely as she overheard everything.
The rumor was true: the rumor that the princess had proposed to the Grand Duke and was rejected.
It seemed that she was quite angry that Celonia had offered glory to the Grand Duke at the hunting festival yesterday. That’s why she came to someone else’s tea party and made a mess.
‘Ah, no. If that woman dies…’
“Your Highness.”
Grace approached the princess, raising the corners of her mean lips.
She had a good plan to help the princess achieve what she wanted.
