Swordmaster Wants to Live Peacefully – Episode 164
Vlad Țepeș
Yuseongwoo had never traveled abroad for leisure in his life.
Even after returning to Earth, his overseas trips were all work-related.
He had never gone sightseeing.
However, this time he needed to act like a tourist, so he strolled through the streets of Romania with Bathory and Schuaanel.
It wasn’t for sightseeing, but it could be said to be his first real experience as a tourist.
“Why is the neighborhood like this?”
But the atmosphere of the neighborhood was grim for sightseeing.
The streets were desolate, and the people seemed on edge.
The atmosphere was not conducive to sightseeing, so he clicked his tongue.
He wanted to have a unique experience since he came abroad.
“When those who create fear through violence seize power, this is what happens.”
“Gangsters should only be admired in movies.”
“What are you talking about?”
“It’s just a saying.”
Yuseongwoo harbored a quiet desire for a peaceful life. [Referencing the idiom of living safely and uneventfully, like a turtle withdrawing into its shell.]
But he didn’t want to become a gangster.
“Let’s go this way.”
Bathory led Yuseongwoo and Schuaanel to a restaurant.
It was a pub reeking of alcohol, but they didn’t seem to care about checking the IDs of the young-looking Schuaanel and Bathory.
“This restaurant is surprisingly good. If you want to enjoy Romania, you have to start here.”
“You know a lot about Romania.”
“My hometown is near here.”
Bathory brought them to a place specializing in Romanian cuisine.
The dishes were generally acidic, making them perfect for those who, like stowaways, didn’t have much appetite.
Sarmale, minced meat and rice wrapped in pickled cabbage and steamed.
Mici, a thick sausage-shaped mixture of various meats and spices grilled to perfection.
And various soups suited Yuseongwoo’s slightly upset stomach.
Schuaanel also seemed to enjoy the food, flapping her ears as she ate.
The taste was incomplete without beer, so Yuseongwoo ordered a cold beer.
“Give me a sip too.”
“Do elves drink beer?”
Yuseongwoo asked, handing Schuaanel his beer glass.
Schuaanel, who said she would only take a sip, emptied the glass that was half full, so Yuseongwoo had to order more beer.
“Does it suit your taste?”
“It’s strange that there are no customers when it’s so delicious.”
As Yuseongwoo ordered one thing after another, a man who appeared to be the chef and owner served the food and asked.
“Since you’re a customer who hasn’t been here in a while, I put some effort into the cooking. Are you here on a trip with your daughters from out of town?”
“Something like that… Both of them are adults, even if they look young, so don’t say anything about them drinking.”
“You have lovely daughters. It’s rewarding to cook when they eat so well.”
He suddenly had two grown daughters, but he didn’t care and continued to speak.
He realized that it was more annoying to correct such misunderstandings.
Bathory, who had been quietly enjoying the food, opened her mouth.
“The last time I came, an older man was cooking… Where did he go?”
“Ah, if you’re talking about my father… it’s been a while. He got caught up in a mafia feud and passed away. I took over the store after him, but… it’s not going so well.”
“…I see. But the taste of the food hasn’t changed. It will get better soon.”
Bathory said with a sad smile.
“Then call me if you need anything.”
As the owner went into the kitchen, Bathory fiddled with her water glass and said.
“This place used to be much noisier, but now there’s only silence left.”
“Isn’t silence a good thing? It’s better than screams.”
“If you say that, I have nothing to say, but I liked the hustle and bustle.”
Bathory knew the restaurant’s past.
The days when Romania was still decent, when smiles overflowed from people’s faces.
The store, which had been run for generations, occupied a large part of her long life.
A sanctuary where everything was sorted out by coming to this store and having a warm bowl of soup when she was troubled.
It had been more than ten years since she last came, so it was understandable that the new owner, the son, wouldn’t remember her.
“Faint memories are increasing one by one. I wonder if this is a problem with living too long.”
“That’s why those who live long must be indifferent. If you give meaning to everything and focus on the present, you won’t want to move forward to the future.”
It was Schuaanel who answered Bathory’s words.
It was too solemn for words spoken while holding forks in both dainty hands.
Yuseongwoo sarcastically said to Schuaanel.
“Considering that, you’ve been enjoying the present too much lately. High Elf.”
“Ugh, that’s… just playing along with the humans’ games for a while.”
“Is that so.”
Yuseongwoo chuckled at Schuaanel, who was hastily making excuses, and took a sip of beer.
“Life is about living as you please. You only live once, whether you live long or short… shake off the bad memories and take only the good ones to the future. And find another fun.”
“Those are good words.”
“…It’s what a colleague I knew said. She said she had lived too long and life wasn’t fun anymore. So she lived with the purpose of killing demons, but she said she had fun after meeting me.”
“What kind of person was she?”
“A winged person… was it a crane? She was a beast-kin woman, a skilled swordsman with a flexible sword. She lived a long time and had wings, so she was often mistaken for an angel.”
Yuseongwoo recalled his conversation with her. They were only together for a short time.
A relationship where they formed a temporary alliance out of necessity.
“I don’t know what was so fun after meeting me, but she kept giggling. I wanted to crack her head open every time, but she was better than me, so I couldn’t win.”
Back when he was still weak.
When he wasn’t even worthy of being called a Swordmaster.
“You had times like that too?”
“What, did you think I was strong from the beginning?”
Maybe it was because he drank alcohol, but the words came out easily.
Even past stories that he wouldn’t normally tell.
Even though he wasn’t drunk.
“I thought you were born with a sword in your hand.”
“Don’t be silly… I first held a sword in my late twenties.”
“You first held a sword in your late twenties? How old are you now?”
“I remember being a little over seventy. I don’t count them one by one.”
“You reached the realm of slaying gods in a little less than 40 years… It’s something I’m saying again, but you’re really a monster. You are.”
“I’m a bit much.”
“Witches live for hundreds of years, but only a few reach the realm of Archmage. Not all witches are talented in magic… In the first place, decades are too short for the path of magic.”
“This crazy bastard learned the Elves’ secret spirit swordsmanship in less than a month. He’s a guy who’s out of the ordinary. He’s beyond common sense.”
“It’s funny for an Elf to talk about the ordinary. Isn’t it just because Elves are lazy that their learning is slow?”
“We have a tendency to be optimistic, but it’s not like that!”
Schuaanel retorted.
Yuseongwoo chuckled again at the sight and ordered more beer.
Schuaanel and Bathory also ordered alcohol, and the three of them started a drinking contest without even saying they would.
It was because they thought they should increase the sales of Bathory’s favorite restaurant, and the owner’s face was filled with a smile at the continuous orders.
Only the recession continued, but a great boom came thanks to the three of them.
Not only alcohol but also endless orders for snacks…….
It was to the point where service snacks kept coming out even though they didn’t order them.
Yuseongwoo didn’t usually get drunk easily, and he didn’t get drunk even more after becoming a Swordmaster.
However, the magicians were different, and Schuaanel and Bathory were starting to get drunk.
“Why, why aren’t you getting drunk?”
“I can hold my liquor.”
“Hic, I, I’ll beat you someday…….”
“Not only are you strong, but you’re also good at drinking! We should call you Alcohol Master instead of Swordmaster!”
Schuaanel kept spouting nonsense with a queasy face, and Bathory kept laughing as if she was enjoying it.
Yuseongwoo watched the two of them make a spectacle of themselves and drank his beer.
No matter how much he drank, he didn’t get drunk.
He could get drunk if he wanted to, but his body seemed to know that it would be dangerous if all three of them were completely drunk in a place like this, so he didn’t allow himself to get drunk.
‘Still.’
The day will come when I can get drunk without worry.
Yuseongwoo believed so, put down his beer glass, and looked at the entrance of the restaurant.
The entrance of the restaurant, which had been quietly closed, opened, and several men with fierce expressions entered.
They looked around the interior and approached the table where Yuseongwoo was sitting.
‘It seems they’ve already heard about it.’
Romania is currently like the kingdom of Vlad Țepeș. [Referring to the historical figure Vlad the Impaler, known for his ruthlessness and control.]
There are eyes and ears everywhere.
It’s only natural that strangers in unfamiliar clothes would stand out when they walk around the streets.
One of the men, dressed in a stylish suit, said.
“Are you the foreigners who have been causing trouble in the streets?”
“I don’t remember causing any trouble…….”
All they had done since arriving in Romania was walk around the streets and enter a restaurant.
Yuseongwoo glanced at the kitchen.
The owner was looking at the people with an uneasy face.
And the faint hatred in his eyes.
‘He said his father died after being caught up in a mafia feud…….’
If so, are these the mafiosos who caused the owner’s father to die?
‘Well, the only ones who would come with this kind of atmosphere are the mafiosos…….’
Yuseongwoo put down the glass he was holding and opened his mouth.
“What’s your business?”
“Do you need a reason to arrest illegal immigrants?”
“I guess not.”
He couldn’t argue.
Yuseongwoo thought it was fortunate that Bathory and Schuaanel were drunk and asleep.
If they had been awake while drunk, things might have gotten bigger.
“Come with me. Or do I have to put a few holes in your body for you to listen?”
“Nine holes in the body are enough. It’s not good for the body to have more than that.”
Yuseongwoo got up from his seat and took care of the two of them.
The two limp bodies were held in his arms without much resistance.
“Let’s go.”
The man stared at him for a moment before turning around.
Yuseongwoo secretly took the wallet from Bathory’s pocket with his aura, left a wad of cash on the table, and followed the man.
He obediently carried the two in his arms and moved his feet.
“Aren’t they heavy?”
“They’re as light as feathers.”
It felt like the beer in their stomachs was sloshing around…….
It was fortunate that they didn’t throw up.
The place they were headed to was a nearby abandoned factory.
As Yuseongwoo entered the lit abandoned factory, several men closed the factory door.
The man in the suit sat down on the sofa prepared inside the factory and said.
“I’m curious about what purpose you came to Romania for. Surely, you didn’t come without knowing that Romania is now the Vlad Family’s, did you?”
“Is that so? I just came for sightseeing.”
At his answer, the man flicked his finger.
Then, a man who had been sneaking up from behind swung a wooden club at the back of Yuseongwoo’s head.
Crack!
A cheerful sound rang out.
The wooden club broke.
Yuseongwoo frowned and looked at the man.
“What do you think you’re doing?”
