Swordmaster Wants to Live Peacefully – Episode 236
Tower Lord Meeting (2)
The Tower Lord meeting was incredibly boring. There weren’t any heated arguments or debates, just calm discussions about the agenda.
I would have preferred a meeting filled with curses…
‘It would be more fun if the Ascension Church showed up quickly.’
As I yawned loudly, Reina gave me a sharp look.
Yuseongwoo smacked his lips and glanced around at the Tower Lords again, making eye contact with one of them.
It was Medea, the Wind Tower Lord of Greece.
She winked at Yuseongwoo, who returned her gaze.
‘…What is this?’
I don’t recognize her.
Yuseongwoo averted his gaze and scanned the other attendees again.
There was a rule that the faces of those participating in the Tower Lord meeting should not be covered, so everyone’s face was visible.
There were a few individuals who had altered their appearances, like him.
‘The flow of magic power…….’
Whether it was due to the high concentration of wizards or some trickery, the flow of magic power felt strange.
Maybe it was because the space itself was unique.
While he was considering various possibilities, the first agenda item concluded.
“Then, the proposal to establish an additional magic tower is rejected with three votes in favor, one abstention, and three votes against.”
The first agenda item, the establishment of an additional magic tower, was rejected.
The agenda proposed building a new magic tower in China, but selecting a suitable site proved difficult due to the country’s vast size.
The locations under consideration were the Demonic Cult’s territory and the fortress being newly constructed under the Seomun Family’s leadership.
However, there were no reliably powerful Grand Mages in China yet, and after much deliberation, the proposal was voted down.
The establishment of a new magic tower was rejected.
And the next agenda item concerned the ‘upcoming disaster’.
Bertrand had proposed this agenda, but everyone seemed to have only a vague understanding of it, and they wore suspicious expressions.
“The second agenda item concerns the upcoming disaster. I believe everyone is aware, but……”
When Bertrand clapped his hands, a holographic globe appeared above the round table.
Numerous pins were stuck into the globe.
Yuseongwoo glanced at the globe and immediately understood its significance.
‘It’s the Abyss.’
The numerous pins, each a different color, seemed to represent the number and danger level of each Abyss.
First-class Abyss were marked in red, and the entrances to special-class Abyss were all black.
“The appearance rate of the Abyss is increasing. The grade of the Abyss is also continuously rising, and we’re even observing the unusual phenomenon of the Double Abyss.”
“So, what’s the problem?”
“Kasim, if you had any sense, you’d understand. The acceleration of the Abyss means that the cracks in the dimensions are widening.”
“So, what does that matter? Isn’t it beneficial for the magic tower because the flow of magic power becomes stronger as the dimensional cracks widen?”
“The fact that cracks are occurring means that they will eventually break, Kasim. What if a monster that we can’t handle emerges from the Abyss?”
“That doesn’t make sense. The larger the crack, the greater the magic power a wizard can wield. Shouldn’t we be able to subdue them based on that power?”
“You’re pathetic for a Grand Mage. You’re thinking based on the premise that the two forces are in conflict.”
Even Yuseongwoo thought that the guy named Kasim seemed a bit dim.
How did he become a Tower Lord with such a limited intellect?
As the argument threatened to escalate, Bertrand clapped his hands again.
A strong wave of magic power erupted, silencing the Tower Lords.
“Both of you are correct. As the cracks in the world accelerate, the magic power that wizards can wield is maximized, but the associated threats also increase.”
When Bertrand spread his arms, various numerical charts appeared next to the holographic globe.
They displayed data related to the Abyss over the past few years.
“There hasn’t been an Abyss of this magnitude since the Great Disaster, but looking at the recent figures, I believe it wouldn’t be surprising if a second Great Disaster were to occur at any time. All magic towers are advised to stockpile their power in preparation for it.”
“A second Great Disaster, huh…….”
“The dimensional wave values are being measured higher than in the past, and I believe they will soon reach the levels recorded at the time of the Great Disaster.”
Bertrand presented various data to support his claims.
“Grand Mages, isn’t it your duty as those who glimpse the truth [those who have achieved a higher understanding of magic and the world]? To stand at the forefront of humanity, protecting those who have not yet reached the truth. Please give your opinions on building a linkage system between magic towers.”
“A linkage system between magic towers? Not a bad idea. What kind of structure are you envisioning?”
“If it’s a linkage system between magic towers, a warp system would also be possible, allowing us to share each other’s power.”
“Before that, we need to finish verifying the safety of the warp gate, but it’s a good idea.”
“What do you think about sharing the magic system between magic towers to cultivate more outstanding wizards?”
“Sharing the magic system? Don’t say ridiculous things, Grand Mage of Seongcheon.”
“I’m also offering to share my magic system… well, I guess Grand Mage Nagi doesn’t have the confidence.”
Nagi frowned at Seongcheon’s provocation but brushed it off with his characteristic hearty laugh.
After sharing their opinions to some extent, Bertrand said.
“Those who agree to prepare for the disaster through the establishment of a linkage system between magic towers, please vote.”
Four votes in favor.
Three votes against.
One abstention.
The second agenda item was passed.
And finally, the long-awaited third agenda item began.
3. Disposition of Swordmaster ‘Yuseongwoo’
Yuseongwoo had no idea why this agenda item had been brought up.
Who knows what wizards are thinking?
Well… if an assassination order is issued and it passes, all I have to do is kill all the wizards here and leave.
Bertrand said.
“The third agenda item was requested by Empire Tower Lord, Grand Mage Sharon.”
At Bertrand’s words, the Tower Lords’ gazes turned to Sharon Collie, the Empire Tower Lord of America.
She calmly accepted the attention focused on her and began to speak.
“This isn’t just something I’m aware of. Order is collapsing. Returner Yuseongwoo. He calls himself a Swordmaster, but it’s no exaggeration to say that he is the greatest threat to the magic tower.”
At Sharon’s words, Seongcheon raised his hand and said.
“Why is he the greatest threat to the magic tower? I don’t quite understand, Grand Mage Sharon.”
“Mr. Seong, I know he’s from your country, but he’s in an unstable state.”
“Unstable?”
“Look at his actions that I learned through the magic tower’s information network. He’s completely obsessed with fighting. After his official return, he has been attacking numerous Abyss, and even going after the bishops of the Ascension Church and killing them all. He even killed the Pope of the Vatican before.”
“Didn’t he just kill those who deserved to die?”
“The same goes for the Cheonmaeng Fortress [a major stronghold of martial artists]. Externally, it is known that the Cheonmaeng Fortress was overthrown by a coup by the Seomun Family, but there’s no way the Seomun Family alone could have moved the Murim Alliance [a coalition of martial arts clans] and the Demonic Cult [a rival faction of martial artists]. Through personal investigation, I have confirmed that Yuseongwoo was also involved in the Cheonmaeng Fortress incident.”
“So, you’re saying that he is a dangerous person who goes after and kills anyone he doesn’t like?”
“That’s right. In addition, it is estimated that there are deaths of unconfirmed people. Since an individual possesses overwhelming force and his tendencies are malicious, wouldn’t he fall into the category of a dangerous person?”
“That’s an overreach. From what I’ve seen, he knows how to distinguish between good and evil, and he doesn’t act unless a clear line is crossed.”
“The number of casualties caused by his actions alone is estimated to be over a thousand. He made a magic agreement with the elves who appeared in Korea, but it was all for naught because he annihilated them. We didn’t even recover the investment.”
“Are you doing this because of your business? Because of money? Really?”
Seongcheon asked with an incredulous expression.
Did the Grand Mage put forward this agenda because of money?
Sharon shook her head, denying the accusation, and continued.
“This could happen again. Isn’t Namsan Tower [a prominent landmark in Seoul] in trouble too? The Korean elves are all dead, and the World Tree, which was an important specimen, was also burned down.”
“It was definitely difficult at that time…….”
“Besides, I heard that Korea has recently faced a large army of orcs. Isn’t that also caused by Yuseongwoo?”
“That’s also true…….”
Seongcheon was being persuaded.
Yuseongwoo calmly listened to Sharon’s pointless rant about how he was a crazy person.
‘When will the Ascension Church come…….’
I was hoping that the Ascension Church would arrive and disrupt the meeting as soon as possible.
Sharon continued to explain the danger Yuseongwoo posed.
How unstable he is, how crazy he is, and how much more blood he might shed in the future.
“Can you be sure that his sword won’t be pointed at you?”
“As long as you don’t do anything annoying…….”
“That would also be based on his subjective criteria. We don’t know what we might do that could offend him. So, I think it’s right to deal with him before he grows even more powerful.”
When Seongcheon closed his mouth, Sharon wore a triumphant expression.
“I agree. Uncontrolled power is definitely a great danger.”
Nagi Seo, the Yasaka Tower Lord of Japan, came out in support of Sharon.
With her supporter’s backing, Sharon’s remarks gained more weight.
However, the counterattack came from an unexpected source.
It was Medea, the Wind Tower Lord of Greece.
She raised her hand slightly and said.
“But I’m curious, haven’t you ever considered that if the fact that you held this meeting is revealed, you’ll be the first to be cut down?”
“…Are you suggesting that someone will leak the contents of the Tower Lord meeting?”
“Well, maybe~ How many ears and mouths are present here… I’m just advising you to be careful.”
Medea spoke in a slow, deliberate tone and then slumped back against the round table.
Her tone was gentle, but it was undeniably a threat.
It was also a gesture of consideration to save the life of a fellow Grand Mage.
However, Sharon did not change her stance.
“…That’s why we need to decide at this Tower Lord meeting. Before he builds even greater power, an uncontrollable force!”
“Hey, Sharon. Are you that afraid of him? Because you never know when that blade will be pointed at you? You’re talking too much.”
Sharon frowned at Kasim’s blunt words.
As if he had struck a nerve, she closed her mouth for a moment.
“Anyway, please vote. What I want is the disposition of Swordmaster Yuseongwoo. Whether you kill him or imprison him in a dimension from which he cannot return. I want one of the two.”
Bertrand clapped his hands to begin the voting.
There were divisions between approval and disapproval.
Approval, four votes.
Disapproval, three votes.
Abstention, one vote.
Yuseongwoo’s disposition was passed.
“The third agenda item has been passed. Then, let’s discuss the method of disposition later, and with this…….”
And, just as Bertrand was about to announce the closing of the Tower Lord meeting.
Finally, what Yuseongwoo had been waiting for began to happen.
