187. The Truth of the Barrier (2)
“You and His Highness the Prince might not feel it, but I can. This is a barrier created by the Magic Tower and the Magic Tower Lord.”
This was a shocking fact to the average person.
The Magic Tower was revered throughout the continent and sometimes feared for its influence, but it did not belong to any country.
No one knew exactly where the Magic Tower was located, how many wizards belonged to it, or who the Magic Tower Lord was.
Even so, to dare target the Ernhardt Empire, and in a place where the First Prince Joshua, a likely candidate for the next emperor, resided.
What benefit would he gain from this? If all of this were to be discovered, even the Magic Tower would not be able to avoid conflict with the Empire.
The enraged Emperor would unite with neighboring kingdoms to search every inch of the Magic Tower, and might even succeed.
The Magic Tower must know this, so why would they take such a risk and do something so absurd?
Like the others, Joshua let out a hollow laugh, as if he couldn’t believe it.
Rosette, on the other hand, was not greatly shaken. She simply felt like she was finally confirming what she had already vaguely suspected.
“But why didn’t you tell anyone?”
“What would change if I told them? We won’t be able to escape this place anyway, and all the truth will be buried here.”
“Why do you think we can’t escape this place? If you told Joshua or the others and we devised a plan, we might have found a breakthrough. You know about the Magic Tower, so perhaps you could figure out the principle of this magic and…”
“Ha, figure out the principle?”
Becky scoffed. Her tone clearly ridiculed Rosette.
“You grew up as a delicate flower in a greenhouse, doing everything you wanted, so you don’t know how difficult it is, do you?”
“……”
“If I could have figured out the principle and found a solution, I would have done it already. Do you think I would be trapped here helplessly? Besides, did you not hear me say that I can’t use magic?”
If Lucas were there, he would have been furious, saying, ‘How dare you say such things to our little one!’ Joshua, who was listening beside her, frowned slightly as if he had been insulted himself.
Rosette, the person in question, on the other hand, felt her tense nerves relax and her mind calmed down.
‘A delicate flower in a greenhouse?’
It was true that she had grown up that way in the Adrian Duchy. Her family, knights, surrounding employees, sometimes even Joshua, and even Bbibbi and Silver were always anxious that she might get hurt.
However, Rosette had not grown up as delicately as Becky thought. She had been used by Duke Dallas like that, and she had even sacrificed her life to turn back time.
Even though she was just a naive kid who only knew magic from the Dallas family and didn’t know much about the world, she was not a flower that had only grown up delicately.
Did she really think she could turn back time when she used forbidden ancient magic?
Rosette’s voice, as she answered naturally, became sharp.
“So you gave up? Why did you make that decision on your own? The leader of this subjugation force is His Highness the Prince, and as a knight of the Imperial Family, you have a duty to inform His Highness of all the facts.”
“I told you. Anyway……”
“If not, did you have something to rely on?”
“……Pardon?”
“I’m asking if the Magic Tower promised to keep you alive.”
Joshua’s aura became fierce. Silver, in sync with his emotions, bared his sharp fangs and growled.
If they couldn’t clear up the misunderstanding here, Becky’s future was sealed.
Either they would all die here, or, if there was a miracle and they returned safely, she would be branded a traitor and killed.
Or…….
She quickly shouted.
“That’s not it! The Magic Tower didn’t say anything to me! But I knew they sent me a warning!”
“You mean to keep your mouth shut no matter what?”
“No! Besides that, the fact that I can’t use magic here!”
“……”
“Why is it that only I can’t use magic when you and even His Highness the Prince can? The Magic Tower took measures in case I broke the barrier.”
“Is that possible?”
“When entering the Magic Tower, all wizards undergo a thorough examination. So they know everything, even the characteristics of each individual’s mana waves and minor details. Knowing that I was part of the subjugation force, it would be easy for them to take action.”
Rosette swallowed hard and asked again.
“The possibility of everyone escaping disappears if you’re not here?”
“That’s right. His Highness the Prince can use magic, but he’s not skilled enough to understand the Magic Tower’s magic, and who would have known that you would come here yourself?”
Becky continued to mutter warily.
“I thought the Magic Tower wouldn’t leave me alone even if I got out safely.”
“So you stayed still?”
“It sounds like an excuse, but yes.”
Rosette rubbed her forehead.
No wonder she was overly nervous and trembling every time monsters appeared. It seemed she wasn’t afraid of the monsters, but wary of the Magic Tower behind them.
“Then why did you attack me?”
“Do you have to ask?”
Becky retorted sharply, glaring at her.
“This all happened because of you!”
“……Because of me?”
“Don’t tell me you didn’t know? Didn’t you come here knowing everything?”
“No, I……”
She realized that Michael had done something and rushed here immediately.
But she never thought that she would be the cause of all this. No, even now, hearing it from Becky, she couldn’t understand it at all.
“Why me? What did I do……”
Could it be because she rejected his proposal?
Just because of that?
She didn’t think so. No matter how crazy a person was, they wouldn’t do something like this for such a reason.
Even if he held a grudge against Rosette for that, it was something to resolve with Rosette. Why put Joshua, Daniel, and the North in danger, who had nothing to do with it?
-The two of them won’t be able to return.
Michael Lerscher’s words echoed in her head like a warning.
She was bothered by the fact that it wasn’t the subjugation force, but ‘the two of them.’
It was as if he cared only about Joshua and Daniel, not the subjugation force or the Empire.
‘Could it be that he was aiming for Daniel or Joshua from the start?’
Did he set up this situation so that the two of them could die very naturally?
Surely he wasn’t crazy…….
‘No, is he really not crazy?’
He was the man who whispered that he loved Rosette, but left her to die.
Michael had excused himself by saying that he would have stepped in if Joshua hadn’t resolved it first, but it was clear that he had used even Rosette as a means.
If he was like that to Rosette, what about others…….
-You will regret what you did today.
-Even if you regret it later and beg with tears, I won’t forgive you.
When Rosette rejected his last proposal, Michael whispered as if warning her.
‘Could it be that this is what he meant by regret?’
To take away everyone I love and trample on me?
So you want me to kneel before you and beg you to save my loved ones?
So you told me that the two of them wouldn’t be able to return?
To rub my hands together and beg you not to do that?
Or to beg you to leave my family and Joshua alone if I follow you?
‘I absolutely can’t do that.’
She didn’t know exactly what Michael wanted. But his feelings didn’t matter.
Rosette would bring back not only the two who had lost contact, but also Lucas and the other subjugation forces who had come with her, safely.
Even if Becky was uncooperative, she would solve it with Joshua. And she would go back and expose Michael Lerscher’s mask, revealing his ugly true face to the world.
If the Magic Tower was behind him, she would bring down the Magic Tower to do so. She would never let him control her as he wanted.
Then she would return to the mansion, hug Duke Adrian and Isabel who would have been worried, and tell them that she had returned safely, that she had safely protected Daniel.
So there was no need to worry anymore…….
‘Wait a minute.’
Rosette suddenly realized that she had missed something and hardened her face.
‘Dad and Sister are still in the capital.’
Was Michael really only aiming for Joshua and Daniel?
The two were just the beginning.
After they failed in the subjugation in the North and couldn’t return, who else would he target?
Then Isabel, who was also a knight of the Imperial Family, then Lucas, who unexpectedly became Adrian’s successor, and finally even Duke Adrian would be swayed by Michael’s plan.
Originally, he would have slowly dealt with them, tightening Rosette’s breath. But what about now?
If it was Michael, he would know that Rosette was here by now. It was the barrier he created, so he would have recognized that it had been shocked and temporarily broken.
He would also know that Rosette was the only one who would do such a thing.
Then would he leave the other two alone?
‘If I were Michael…….’
Wouldn’t he take the two as hostages and try to threaten Rosette?
“There’s no time. This is not the time to be relaxing.”
Rosette couldn’t hold back the emotions boiling inside her and gasped. Joshua, who couldn’t keep up with her sudden change in emotion, grabbed her shoulder.
“Rose, calm down first……”
“Dad and Sister are in danger. He’s going to target them while we’re here!”
The moment he heard those words, Joshua’s expression hardened as much as hers.
