Y13-181 2011 Off-Season
– Ugh! That’s so cheesy! Anyway, I’m glad to play with a guy like you. I honestly want to keep playing on this team if possible. The problem is how much the team will value me. –
“So, at the very least, Chandler would choose Dallas if the offers were the same, right? Frankly, considering taxes, it’s more profitable if the offers are the same.”
Dallas is located in Texas, which, along with Florida, has a 0% state income tax. Considering that California’s state income tax is 11.5%, about 5% of the annual salary can be received tax-free for half of the home games. The advantage of this 0% state tax also contributed to the Big 3 in Miami being able to take pay cuts. Miami also had no state income tax because it was in Florida.
– Of course. Going to a big city increases additional income through endorsements and opportunities, but taxes are also higher. I would definitely stay with this team if the offers were the same. Unless I feel that I’m not being valued enough, there’s no reason to leave if Dallas sees and respects my worth as much as other teams do. If my financial needs are met, why would I refuse this team? I like the players, and Smith, the trainer who knows me best, is here. Frankly, I have a good relationship with the club, except for the financial issues. –
In Youngjae’s past life, Chandler transferred to the New York Knicks and met Jeremy Lin there. And Jeremy Lin, under the nickname ‘Linsanity,’ caused a sensation as the first Asian guard in the NBA. Of course, Jeremy Lin wouldn’t have been able to perform like that without his grueling efforts, but Jeremy Lin wouldn’t have been able to cause such a sensation without Tyson Chandler. Chandler thoroughly supported Lin, who was just a rookie, and as a leader, he was a player who knew how to take care of his other teammates and adapt to the team’s tactics.
“That’s a relief. Anyway, I don’t know what the future holds, but keep that promise, Chandler. At least stay with this team if the offers are the same.”
– I understand. I like it here too. I’m thinking of staying if possible, so take care. I expect to see a more developed version of you next year. –
Youngjae started the call with Chandler as a joke but ended it in a serious atmosphere. Chandler, along with Brewer, was practically a partner. Considering that Brewer joined in the middle of the season, the player closest to him was Chandler, who had just joined last season, not the existing Dallas players.
[Dallas Mavericks in ESPN Player Rankings]
2011.10.16 Written by MADMAVS
Dirk Nowitzki 9.67 5
Tyson Chandler 7.21 37
Youngjae Yoon 7.19 38
Jason Kidd 6.65 53
Jason Terry 6.52 58
Shawn Marion 6.09 63
Caron Butler 5.85 87
J.J Barea 5.54 99
These are the Dallas players ranked up to 100th. Dallas’s current situation is very good if you look at it positively, and difficult if you look at it negatively. Having 8 players in the top 100 means the squad is very deep. Since there are 30 teams in the NBA, even if you pick the best 5 from each of the 30 teams, that’s 150 people. Dallas has produced the most players within the top 100. Even championship contenders like Miami, San Antonio, Chicago, and Oklahoma haven’t produced 8 players in the top 100. This depth of squad will definitely be a strength in the regular season because the regular season is a long journey of 82 games.
The problem is that 3 of these 8 players—Chandler, Butler, and Barea—are free agents. And two are players needed in the starting lineup, and one is the only backup point guard. Whether or not we keep all of them will change the depth of our team’s squad next year.
And there’s another weakness. There are 8 players in the top 100, but only 1 in the top 30. You probably felt it well last season. We are a team that has no answer if Nowitzki is injured or underperforming. Our winning rate without Nowitzki is at a level where playoff qualification is precarious. We struggled a lot in the last Finals in games where Nowitzki underperformed.
According to the player rankings, Chandler should be the second option, but Chandler is a defensive center. Kidd is having a hard time scoring and is now 38 years old. It’s an age where you never know when he’ll collapse. Terry is also 34 years old and can’t do more than a sixth man role. Marion is the same as Chandler.
In other words, the future of our team next year requires re-signing with the 3 free agents and further growth of Youngjae Yoon. We don’t want to be a Nowitzki one-man team in attack. Will this work in the playoffs next year? As you all know, the playoffs are a short-term game where the power of the ace is absolute. This season, the players took turns exploding, and coach Carlisle’s tactics worked perfectly, so we won the championship, but there is no guarantee that all the players will do well next year and win the tactical battle.
Let’s talk about next year, what do you all think about our players’ rankings?
Re: Honestly, Nowitzki’s 5th place is a bit disappointing. I can understand LeBron and Howard, but he should be higher than Wade and Paul. He’s the Finals MVP and the ace of the championship team, lol [laughing out loud].
Re: Next to Kobe being 7th, what I can’t understand is Nowitzki being 5th. The ESPN page is already a mess with comments.
Re: Isn’t Chandler a bit too high? He’s the core of the defense, but it seems like it’s because the other players’ defense and tactics are well coordinated…
Re: Yoon seems to have come out just right according to last year’s performance. Griffin is 10th, but if you include expectations for next year, he could be given a higher ranking.
Re: I think Yoon is high enough. The only shooting guards higher than Yoon are Kobe, Wade, and Ginobili. The shooting guard position is already drying up. He’s also 2nd among rookies after Griffin.
Re: It seems like it came out pretty good. I’m worried that it came out too high than expected;;
After returning to the United States from Korea, Youngjae continued to train steadily and was occasionally invited to participate in various local events and charity events. Since there was still no talk or room for negotiation regarding the lockout [an employer-imposed work stoppage], Youngjae had plenty of free time outside of training.
In the morning, he faithfully carried out the training plan tailored to him by Smith at the training center with the help of the trainer, and in the afternoon, Youngjae devoted himself to pull-up jumper training, which he felt was his weakness. Compared to spot-up jumpers that soar as soon as you receive the ball, pull-up jumpers require you to shoot while moving, so balance and distance in the air are important. As Jonas continued to throw the ball, Youngjae repeated jumpers after a few dribbles hundreds of times.
Jonas Im clicked his tongue as he watched Youngjae’s shooting improve rapidly. At first, the more dribbles he took, the lower the success rate of the pull-up jumper was compared to the spot-up jumper, but he was gradually getting the hang of it. In a few months, it seemed like he could use it in real games.
‘I don’t think it’s possible for just me and Yoon to train anymore. It seems necessary to train with other players. They don’t have to be teammates. You should find someone to train with.’
Youngjae nodded slightly at Jonas’s advice. It was clear that Jonas was a coach with outstanding experience and ability, but training with several people rather than training alone would create a synergy effect as they helped each other.
– So, have you thought about who you’re going to train with? –
Emily, whose face was more familiar with charcoal smudges [from her work, implying she’s been busy], was waving her hand at Youngjae, wearing a beige hoodie and sky blue jeans for some reason. Even while video calling, Youngjae couldn’t help but stare at Emily, who looked so pretty on the screen.
“Um… I’ve been thinking about it.”
– Really? Who with? Is it someone I know? I hope that player is good~ –
At Emily’s words, Youngjae laughed without realizing it, and Emily looked at Youngjae with a puzzled expression.
“Hehehe, there is. It’s Emily, she’s a really great person. I’m on the phone with her right now…”
– Ah! Really~ Don’t joke around! –
Youngjae sighed as he unknowingly pressed Emily’s nose on the screen with his right index finger, and Emily expressed her regret with an unavoidable expression at Youngjae’s appearance.
– I… want to go too. I miss you. Still, as we’ve always said, I think we have to be patient when there are things we need to do. –
Emily was participating in the recording of an important movie OST [original soundtrack] insertion song in her own way, and Youngjae was focusing on improving his personal skills in addition to various schedules. Youngjae also seemed to know everything, and he slightly touched the pendant on his necklace, and Emily also kept touching her necklace while talking on the phone, as if she kept thinking of Youngjae.
“I’m being patient because I don’t want to be spoiled. I don’t want Emily to not be able to do her job properly because of my selfishness.”
Even though she was 6 years younger, so it was an age where it would be understandable to be stubborn and spoiled, Youngjae never did that. Of course, his life in his previous life had made Youngjae a more mature person, but he also thought deeply about Emily, so he didn’t want to make Emily worry about these things even more.
Emily tried to say she was sorry but closed her mouth tightly and expressed her current feelings in words that Youngjae liked to hear more.
– Thank you. I love you. –
“Wow~ What’s going on? You know that I really like hearing that word these days, right?”
Youngjae smiled innocently and pressed Emily’s nose on the screen, and Emily nodded along, pressing her nose with her index finger, saying ah-ah-.
“Don’t overdo it when you’re tired. Get plenty of rest when you rest.”
– Tsk, I don’t know who’s saying that to whom! I don’t sympathize at all when I hear that from a training addict! … Are you really okay? To the point of hurting your body… –
Emily looked worried, as if she remembered Youngjae training like a machine during the Finals, but Youngjae shook his hand, saying it was definitely not.
“Anyway, I’m still looking into the players around me. I’ll let you know as soon as I decide who to train with.”
– You have to tell me first, okay? –
“Of course, of course. Don’t worry and go in. I’ll contact you tomorrow.”
– Okay, then go in… Wait a little bit. I love you. –
Youngjae knew that Emily was pushing herself quite a bit and taking time out of her schedule. Youngjae felt sorry for Emily, who sometimes had a tired expression but smiled brightly when the phone rang, so he told her that she could do it slowly, but Emily got angry for the first time and scolded Youngjae for never saying that again.
‘I really like Yoon’s consideration for worrying about me. But… saying that makes it sound like you don’t want to see me soon. I don’t want to hear that anymore.’
“…”
Youngjae, who had put his smartphone down next to him, pondered why Emily liked him so much, but he couldn’t come up with an answer in his own mind. Emily was an attractive woman who could meet someone better than Youngjae, to the point where he could only come up with the answer that she was just blinded by love.
“I won’t let go.”
And, she was also a woman that Youngjae could never meet again. Youngjae reaffirmed himself and lay down on the bed to go to sleep.
Good Night enjoy ~
“Huh?”
But Youngjae couldn’t sleep because a call came from a certain player.

@I didn’t have time to write yesterday because of a team project. I woke up in the morning and wrote and uploaded an episode.
@It’s almost the same as the actual Dallas players’ rankings. As much as the average squad is good, the identity of this team is an aging team with only one ace.
@And this is actually a bit long during the off-season. The Summer League was not held and the pre-season was shortened, so the players couldn’t properly improve their physical condition. This is an important time for players and teams in the last 5 years.
@The market size of American professional sports is divided into metropolitan areas, not cities. And the economic power of the residence is also important. Also, limited to the sports field, the market size is also classified by the number of TV households. If you search for Dallas and San Antonio on the map, San Antonio’s metropolitan area is all small satellite cities except for the city of San Antonio. And the metropolitan area has a rural feel and is not a wealthy city. San Antonio has a city population of 1.4 million (as of 2012), ranking 7th in the United States, but the metropolitan area population does not exceed 2 million.
On the other hand, Dallas has a city population of 1.2 million, ranking 9th, but there are many satellite cities in the surrounding metropolitan area and the population is considerable. Nearby is Fort Worth (16th), with a population of 750,000, so the area is called DFW, or the Dallas-Fort Worth area. If you look at the Dallas map, you can almost imagine Seoul with many cities around it. So Dallas has all four major American sports teams. San Antonio only has basketball. In addition, Dallas is a wealthy city that was the only city among major cities to make a profit during the subprime mortgage economic crisis [a major financial crisis in the late 2000s].
In addition, Boston is a small city with 610,000 people (22nd), but the metropolitan area has a large population and is wealthy, making it one of the top 4 big markets in the United States. Usually, the market size is viewed in the order of New York, LA, Chicago, and Boston. Below that are Houston, Philadelphia, Dallas, Golden State (San Francisco), and Washington, which are big markets. As a counterexample, San Diego also has a population of 1.3 million (9th), but the metropolitan area population is small, so it is classified as a small market.
The number of TV households is about 7.4 million in New York, 5.6 million in LA, and 3.5 million in Chicago. Houston and Dallas have just over 2 million. Utah, Milwaukee, San Antonio, Oklahoma, Memphis, and New Orleans are between 600,000 and 1 million.
